Problems with 2018 Honda CR-V ENGINE

On average, the 2018 Honda CR-V starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 6 740 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2018 Honda CR-V

I bought a 2018 honda cr-v (1.5l turbo engine) in august. it only has 1700 miles, but so far it has stalled on me 3 times (while driving). the first 2 times, i was under 25 mph and it started stalling. several lights were flashing on the dashboard cautioning engine failure, brake failure, tire pressure failure, etc. the car was making pinging noises while these lights were flashing and it wouldn't drive any longer. i had no choice but to pull over to the side of the road and wait for a tow truck to take me to the dealership. the 3rd time this happened, i was going almost 40mph and it stalled again (same as before). the car was also shaking and stuttering while simply sitting idle. honda said that the crank shaft sensor (cpk) was defective and replaced it...however, that did not fix the problem. when i asked honda if this stalling issue was related to articles describing the ongoing problems with this make/model (in recent years), they refused to acknowledge it and said they couldn't comment because it wasn't a "honda article". i'm sure i'm not the only customer that has come to the dealership with this problem...yet, they refuse to address that it's a serious problem. they also have not declared a recall. this is a serious life-threatening safety hazard. when the car stalled, i wasn't on the expressway, but on local roads; however, i don't feel safe driving this car anymore. i have no idea when it's going to stall again. honda has given no assurances that they know what the problem is or can even fix it.

Gasoline in the oil!

Gasoline is getting into the oil. symptoms are a gas smell in the cabin and the level on the dipstick is above the top fill level. this condition can cause the vehicle to stop running causing a dangerous condition. honda is repairing cars in cold weather states only. a tsb was issued in october 22, 2018. why aren't they repairing all of the vehicles with this problem? i had the oil changed on my car and the oil level was 1/2 over the fill mark.

Oil dilution, gasoline getting into crankcase

Driving in the highway engine light came on. after a few mintues all the warning lights came on and the engine started to slowing down. got towed and the dealership told me i have a multiple misfire and the engine oil is over the recommended oil in the dipstick, and it smells mixed with fuel. they just change the oil and didnt fix the software

Engine oil was diluted with gasoline, causing possible motor damage. dealer redid a fuel mapping, and made it so teh fan cannot blow until the car is fully warmed. this wont correct the issue. these direct injected motors let gasoline past the rings when cold, and if the car is cold frequently, the gasoline will not vaporize form the oil. if left unchecked, the increased volume of liquid can cause the car to lsoe power and shut off at any time, causing a safety risk. i live in texas, so it doesn't get exceptionally cold, but this happened on a brand new car with less than 2500 miles on it at the time. internet searches show thousands of people having the same issue. a recall should be forced to correct these issues, and keep people safe.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact suspected that fuel and oil were in the oil tank, leaking past the cylinders and entering the oil tank. the vehicle was taken to lithia honda (4095 crater lake hwy, medford, or 97504, (541) 930-3021) where an oil dilution for the fuel odor was performed, but no failure was found. the contact stated that the dipstick showed that the oil was above the full mark. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call the dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 10,864. *bf *jb

Extra oil in the engine; during the previous oil change i followed the oem's recommendation and added the proper amount of oil to the engine (3.5l or 3.7qt). however, when i did the last oil change i drained 5qts of oil out of the engine, how is this possible?

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while operating the vehicle, a fuel odor entered the vehicle. in addition, while checking the oil level, the odor of fuel was also present. the vehicle was taken to coconut point honda (22240 s. tamiami trl, estero, fl) and a product update was performed and the air conditioning control unit was replaced. the contact indicated that the oil continued to smell of fuel and the oil level was very high. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.

Oil dilution. the oil level in the crankcase continually rises due to gas seepage causing premature wear to the engine. ongoing since purchased vehicle new. the engine also never warms up to operating temperature unless your going highway speeds. this is highly unsatisfactory when around town.

Sport honda confirmed that gasoline is mixed in with oil...the oil stick has very black oil up high on the stick. on several ocsasions in jan 2019 a strong chemical smell appeared in the car cabin... the gas mileage dropped abruptly at this time by 12% the honda dealer has know about this problem since early morning jan 31,2019 and has not returned my 2 phone calls. the strong smell only occured while driving.

Purchased vehicle nov 9, 2018. from 50-450 miles, had very poor avg mpg (avg 12-16 mpg combined). on jan 1, with under 450 miles on car, and within the first 1.5 miles of driving (driving on a slight incline), computer mpg indicator became erratic/blinking for about 2-3 minutes (indicated from 2 - 80 mpg and occasionally appeared as -------) then returned to higher than usual number. jan 2, started car, very strong smell of raw gas inside cabin (had to open windows) for about 3-4 minutes - reported to/made appt with dealer. jan 3, brought to dealer for appt, told no odor currently detected by service manager in cabin, nothing they could do and did not take car or provide repair order number. at 594, (feb 5) returned to dealer with strong smell of raw gas in oil (on dipstick and over engine with hood up). oil on dipstick appeared runny. dealer confirmed gas in oil, american honda instructed dealer this is not a problem and not to change oil. dealer changed oil as a courtesy to me. i am deeply concerned about the safety of this raw gas odor (if involved in minor accident, will vehicle explode) and deeply concerned about the ongoing damage to engine, powertrain etc. raw gas in cabin (even if sporadic) and oil is not normal. american honda has not yet returned my calls but has assigned a case number.

My 2018 cry had over ful oil level on dipstick and bad smell of fuel in oil. took it into dealership and they acknowledged the issue was known in northern states but not in texas where i live. the service manager said a fix is being issued in northern states and he said that he would call me in few weeks to schedule the fix for my crv. it's been 1 month and i have not heard from service manager. i checked oil level after 1 month of driving and the level is above full with a smell of gas once again. this is most likely causing damage to my engines longevity.

Oil dilution, over full oil mark, engine oil leak noticed when stationary. gas smell inside vehicle.

Honda gas in oil. when in for their recall. oil was changed and a/c module replaced. i never checked the oil for gas but feel this problem must cause some engine damage. would like to see a formal recall with proper corrective action. dealer seemed evasive when asked to explain the problem, no big deal just gas in the oil.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact noticed that fuel was mixing with the engine oil. there was also a loss of power and brake functionality as various warning indicators and gauges flashed on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to southeastern honda (3125 us-1, palm bay, fl 32905, (321) 984-4224), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. a loaner vehicle was not offered. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted, but was closed for the holidays. the contact planned to call back. the approximate failure mileage was 3,800.

Have a 2018 honda crv with the 2.4l engine, i keep getting a gas/ exhuast smell inside the passenger cab while it is idling (statioary) and fuel smell in engine oil. took it to the dealer they said they were unable to duplicate customers concern and thos motor does not have a recall on it. mybe it should. the promblem just happened again, i am going to take it in again. this is my family car, this should not be happening it is supposed to be safe. if my county l live in, had emission testing, it probably wouldn't pass, the tail pipe has black carbon on it.

Purchased honda 2018 crv touring in october of 2018. in december received letter from honda regarding a fix for the oil dilution issue. oil change 12/27/18 and again 5/30/19 at 3544 miles as oil above full on dipstick. oil change again 8/21/19 at 7,386 miles for same issue. now at 10,971 needing oil change again because of excess oil/fuel mixture. also, still getting gas smell in the cabin of the vehicle. on going problem with this engine. ## vin passed ## ##

October 2018 we took our new c rv on a trip to nashville, tn from traverse city, mi. the check engine light came on and the oil can icon lit up. i called the honda dealer where i bought the c rv from and they had no idea what was going on. i got out and checked the oil and found it high. i brought the honda to a quick lube to check it. they changed the oil then sent me on my way. after arriving back home tc a few weeks later we got a recall letter from honda. on wednesday, december 26th, williams honda in tc did the recall work. on thursday my wife got in the vehicle to go shopping and the heater would not work. she called the honda dealer and brought the honda to them. they said that they did not cause the heater to not work with the recall repair. after doing something, the heater began to work again. this is very worrisome, we are not sure what to do next. on an earlier occasion our new cr-v would not start as after only 30 minutes of sitting the battery was dead. the honda dealer told us you can't leave any lights on as the battery wont last very long.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while driving the vehicle, the contact noticed an abnormal odor of fuel in the engine oil. additionally, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle idled. the vehicle was taken to bobby rahal honda of state college (located at 2796 w college ave, state college, pa 16801, (814) 552-1352) where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 6,989.

I can smell gas in the car, but i don't see a leak. happens when the car is cold.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the heater failed to defrost the windshield. the contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor on the oil dipstick. the contact stated that the vehicle had to be driven before the vehicle warmed up. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to mclarty honda (10 colonel glenn ct, little rock, ar, (501) 482-5326) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle performed as designed; however, the oil was changed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 09213798. the failure mileage was 4,500. the vin was unknown.

Engine oil contaminated by gasoline. strong smell of gasoline in oil and cabin. oil has the viscosity of water. nhtsa needs to step up and do its job and force honda to recall this vehicle. called honda customer service and asked if the tested crv engine and all i received was silence over the phone. my engine has been compromised as i drove 12,000 miles so far. if nhtsa does not do its job in recalling this vehicle everyone there should be fired. i hope someone there of any authority reads this complaint. again nhtsa do your job.

Gasoline mixing with engine oil,oil level rising above full mark diluting engine oil.will possibly cause pre mature engine damage.smell of gasoline in oil.honda is claiming this is normal..this is not normal!

Oil dilution causing elevated engine oil levels and camshaft pinging noise. also smell of gas in oil and engine takes extended time to warm up. initially, slight pinging noise (~5k miles) which became progressively worse.

The vehicle exhibited minor pinging noise from engine and gas smell in cabin starting about september 2018. i called to have scheduled maintenance done as at about 5k miles. honda motorwerks of la crosse service rep said wait until notified. notification occurred and at same time i noticed louder ping. i schedule appt. at that appt on 12/19/2018 campaign recall: 18-114:6du00 was performed. i was assured the recall fix would address issue. it did not as pinging remains. another appt today 12/20/2018 to look at noise again and lower oil level as was overfilled yesterday by honda dealership. i request that nhtsa direct honda to provide adequate resolution for these issue due to the safety issue(gas smell in cab, extensive gas in oil reservoir) and address damage done to vehicle due to compromised oil lubrication (cam pinging per recall documentation). please help us cr-v owners. *tr

Our 2018 honda crv touring has the oil dilution problem. our oil level increased about 3/4 inch on the oil stick from may, 2018 to december, 2018 and it smells like gas. we have also smelled gas inside our car. honda is fixing some cars, but we live in arkansas and our state is not on the list to be repaired. we could have an engine fire so feel it is not safe to drive. also, the engine will wear out a lot faster with the dilution....even though the honda dealer said it won't!!

Gasoline smell in oil, also occasionally gasoline smell in the cabin when turn on the heat.

Lots of gasoline in my oil. oil level starting climbing at onset of cold weather here in louisiana ( it had been stable at full line before weather got cold). my wife drives this vehicle 15 miles to work one way 5 days per week. smell of gasoline kept getting stronger and oil level rising slightly each saturday morning when i checked my oil (after weather got cold). i showed dealership service advisor (at 50% oil life) who agreed that the oil smelled like gasoline & level was too high and then he ignored my request to document the issue. i check oil level each saturday morning (as well as tire pressure on all my vehicles). once i got home from dealership oil change and realized that there was no complaint of gasoline in oil in my paperwork i called honda usa and complained they then gave me a case number.

3-month-old 2018 cr-v ex-l - noticed oil dilution problems within first 2 months. dealer has been unresponsive. gas has been getting into oil in apparently significant amounts. persistent smells of gas and 'rotten eggs/meat' while operating. oil level gets higher above measuring section of dipstick every time i check, smells of gas. car begins to stall a bit occasionally. had oil changed at 5k miles - tech confirmed oil was very thin, higher volume than should be, and smelled of gas. very concerned about safety now (what if it stalls while in heavy highway traffic?) and also long-term engine damage since diluted oil will not lubricate as well. researched online only after discovering problem - apparently well known problem, and widespread - but barely acknowledged by honda.

Purchased the 2018 honda cr-v ex-l new from pearson honda, midlothian va. 23112. shortly after the purchase i noticed the odor of gas inside the vehicle. during december 2018, i called the dealer complaining that there was a strong odor of gas in the engine oil. i was advised to bring the vehicle in and they offered to change the oil free of charge. i researched on the internet and discovered that honda knew about this engine defect during 2017 and still installed the defected engines in the 2018 cr-v. honda has issued a recall to correct the problem, but not for vehicles registered in va. i contacted the dealer and was advised to keep bringing in the vehicle after a short period of time for additional free oil changes. this is not acceptable and any assistance from you will be greatly appreciated. second issue: while traveling on the interstate at speeds over 50mph without warning the vehicle would brake very hard, usually as a second vehicle is being over taken in the right lane. i reported this situation to the dealer and was advised the sensors are just very sensitive. this is a sporadic problem.

At several points in time during november and december, i smelled a foul odor in the passenger cabin. i notified the dealer and there was a recall in which they applied the fix. even now, there appears to be a foul smell once in a while. the heating system takes a long time to heat up in the winter. if in park/idle mode, the heat will automatically be less hot for some reason.

I have been getting a strong gas odor inside the car and the oil level was above the full mark, smelled strong of gas and was a dark color for being brand new with 3,000 miles. i brought to the dealer and they installed campaign recall #18-114 that included software update and a a/c control. i drove car 5 days and while driving on a busy road the car filled with gas fumes that was overwhelming i had to put all windows down and pull over to air the vehicle out and make sure it wasnt going to be a fire hazzard.i have reported issue to honda factory and will be going to the dealer 12/19/18 to adress the issue again

Wife notices fuel smell while driving. oil was checked and i could visibly see the oil is cut with gasoline along with strong smell of gasoline on oil dipstick. oil is indefinitely contaminated with gasoline. first noticed on 12/10/18 and researched online finding that thousands of others have the same problem with 2017-2018 honda cr-v with the 1.5l turbo

I purchased my cr-v in february 2018. i completed my first oil change at 6804 miles in december. the oil was very dark(black), watery, and smelled strongly of fuel. issues with vehicle are causing an oil dilution problem. i live in southern california but at an elevation of 6800 feet. my commute is short and it gets cold at night. the cr-v is stored in a heated garage during the night. i feel this problem has caused unnecessary wear to my engine and at this time honda is only going to diagnose my problem but not fix it on first visit. they should be issuing a recall and not make its customers jump through hoops to fix a problem they're already well aware of

Noticed a strong odor of gas on the oil dipstick along with a strong odor of gas in the cabin area. the smell is so strong that it causes the occupants to become sick. the smell is normally when its sitting, idling or when you first start it when the engine is cold.

When ever i drive my car in city and highway i smell gas or burn smell strong in cabin .i recently notice that my front headlight change into bright and hit the order car driver face directly in two way streets and nearly had accidents one times

My cr-v 2018 doesn't run smooth and the engine is noisey but the big problem happened 12/08/18 when i parked the car to unload groceries when one hour later i went to start it the cabin filled with the strong smell of gasoline. i spoke to my mechanic who told me not to drive and have the dealership pick it up.

Hi nhtsa my complain is about my honda cr-v 2018 i have a issue with oil diluted i do my oil change about 2000 miles ago when the car was 2500 mile almost new now my car has 4153 miles but to day i check my oil stick and i see is overfilled and the oil is very dark also after did the oil change by the honda dealer i check the oil and was dark and i say how is possible if i do oil change few minutes ago, today december 8 2018 i was in honda if danbury dealer and the guys they don't know about these issue they only say can do the oil change i really worry about it

Engine oil needed to be changed for first time since information was prompted on dash board. after checking the oil level it was detected that oil level is higher than normal required level. oil level is above orange measuring scale and is 1/8 of an inch on metal dipstick. oil smell on gasoline and there is significant amount of gasoline in engine oil. also, oil seems to be deluted. oil level was ckecked when engine was cold and hot. the result was always the same. oil level is too high.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that fuel was leaking into the oil and the check engine indicator kept randomly illuminating. bosak honda michigan city (710 hwy 20, michigan city, in 46360, 1-219-874-4293) was notified and stated that the manufacturer sent notification of campaign number: 1245a2 for a product and software update. the dealer serviced the manufacturer campaign, which was not a manufacturer recall, but the remedy failed to provide a permanent repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and provided a case number. the manufacturer had not issued any fuel system or engine recalls. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 11,800. *tt*jb

With all the buzz on internet and also c.r.about gas mixing with oil, i bought a 2018 crv with the 1.5 turbo engine, i checked my oil it was passed the full mark and smelled of gas.i took the oil cap off it also had a smell of gas.so most of us know this is not a good thing, long story short received a letter in the mail advising to set a appointment for a "fix" i hope this works here in ohio.my appointment is for 1-7-2019,although sounds like a it doesn't work from comments people have made after they took their cars in. please help!

Strong smell of gasoline from oil and from crankcase when oil cap is removed. smell of gasoline very noticeable from oil dip stick when removed. smell of gasoline is present in oil and crankcase whether engine is cold or hot. smell of gasoline in cabin when car is restarted when engine is hot

I checked the oil the day it was changed by honda garage. it was "middle-high" on the dipstick. after 5000 miles (still 50% oil life) i have checked the dipstick again and it is way over the measuring area of the dipstick (at least an inch or more over the "full" mark). the car is stumbling on idle, which i believe is from too much compression. honda garage states it's the first one they heard about. i say that's because honda has not told cr-v 1.8l owners to check! if more checked they would see how bad the problem is. gas in oil no good. this much gas in oil means new engine! what is honda doing about it? free oil change. i have 12000 miles on car, and probably at least half or more with high levels of gas in oil. free oil change is not helping my engine. honda should not have been able to sell me this car if they knew this was happening. they're hiding it by not informing the owners who are not checking before oil changes.

Gas is leaking into the oil system thus overfilling it. i have checked my vehicles oil (less than 500 miles on my car) and the oil line was way passed full. this overfilling can cause premature damage to the engine, which according to experts can cause stalling at random times which poses an immediate threat to the driver and other vehicles on the road. the dealership from which i bought my vehicle did not inform me of this issue even though they know that it is a pressing issue. hence the reason the 2019 cr-v's have not yet been released.

A couple of months after an oil change i will smell fuel or exchaust and also, when i check the oil, it will be much higher than the full line on the dipstick.

Oil diluted with gasoline

Strong gasoline smell on engine dipstick and vehicle only has 128 miles

The engine fails to reach full operating temperature. gas is finding its way into the oil pan and producing an overfill condition. the cabin smells of gasoline. the electronics are unreilable and are often of line

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. after reading the consumer report, the contact became aware that the 2018 honda cr-v vehicles experienced fuel intrusion into the engine oil. the contact inspected the engine dipstick himself and noticed a fuel odor and fuel mixed with engine oil. the contact also found that the engine oil level had risen due to the fuel penetration. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 227. *tt
