Problems with 2017 Honda CR-V SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2017 Honda CR-V starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 17 202 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2017 Honda CR-V

Experienced a false positive related to automatic braking system while driving (brakes locked up and tires screeched). there was nothing in front of the car and luckily no one was behind me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 45 mph, all the warning indicators on the instrument cluster started to flash. the brakes were applied without the brake pedal being depressed. the contact stated that the failure occurred sporadically for the past year. the vehicle was taken to frank leta honda (500 auto mall dr, o'fallon, mo 63368) five times and they repaired the vehicle, according to their records. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and contact was asked to submit all the records and bills. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

Mcminnville oregon at the intersection of ne baker st (hwy99w) and ne 12th st. while driving north on ne baker st and entering the intersection where at least two steel plates were in the road covering construction work our 2017 honda crv suddenly and unexpectedly applied the braking system. the electronic system designed to brake the vehicle to avoid an accident had suddenly chirped and alerted on the dash "brake!" and in less than one second the system applied the brakes quickly and hard. time was about 3:45pm, the sky was partly cloudy, temperature was about 45 degrees, the roads we dry and clear. only after reading other exact events with exact same scenarios did i realize that it appeared the steel plates in the road had confused the system. luckily no other cars were around or behind us and the four of us in the vehicle were no more that startled by the event.

On monday, october 14 my 2017 honda crv touring made a sudden stop on a perfectly clear day on the kelly ave bridge leading into my baltimore neighborhood. there was nothing in front of us or behind us. the automatic braking system came on and the car slammed to a halt. thankfully no one was behind us. i really thought i had been hit from behind--it was extremely jarring. i called honda corporate and filed a complaint and am taking the car in monday to the dealer so they can run a diagnostic check. my service representative told me to clean my windshield as that was probably what caused the event to occur. i was going approximately 25 mph--if we had been at highway speeds and a truck behind us it would have been a disaster.

I was driving on the highway at approximately 55 mph, clear sky and dry pavement. as i was coming around a curve the automatic braking system engaged, slamming on the brakes, coming to almost a complete stop. no other vehicles were close enough in front of or on the side of my vehicle to warrant the braking system to be activated. thankfully no other vehicles were close enough behind me to cause a collision. the dealer was notified of the issue although nothing was done as i traded the car in for fear of the issue occurring again. this was the second incident. the first incident occurred on a dry, 2 lane street, with a median between on coming traffic, within the first year of owning the vehicle. as i approached a green light at approximately 25 mph there was an oncoming vehicle on the opposite side of the road, stationary at the light, when the automatic braking system engaged slamming on the brakes, bringing my vehicle to a stop. no collision or injuries occurred with this incident. also, no notification to the dealer with this incident.

I was driving with my wife as a passenger on a 4-lane highway (2 lanes in each direction). traffic was light. we were travelling at about 45mph in the right hand lane about 500-feet from an intersection when i signaled to change lanes into the left lane as i would be making a left turn at the intersection. as we were midway into the lane change, our automatic collision avoidance warning flashed up on the instrument panel, beeped the alarm, and immediately (and unexpectedly) applied the brakes! the car behind us just missed plowing into the back of us because of the sudden braking for no reasons. the weather was good and just a bit cloudy, so weather had no bearing in this, and there was no traffic or obstacles near or in front of us to cause a false collision impression on the sensors. this has happened to us several times before and we did notify our honda dealer and they said that this happens sometimes, especially in heavy rains when the sensors "see" a heavy rain area as an object. on two prior occasions when this happened, again in clear weather and no objects around, we were almost struck by a vehicle behind us. this is scarey, and i am glad i pay close attention to my driving as if i did not, this safety defect would kill us.

I was driving home when all of a sudden all of the warning lights on my dash turned on and my brakes did not work so i could stop the vehicle so i shifted into park to finally stop the car.

In motion 45mph on a city street heading straight and 'brake' flashed on the dashboard and then applied itself instantly and abruptly to a stop. there were no cars or obstacles in front for the brake to be applied. however, the ground was slightly wet from sprinklers that had sprayed the road which makes no sense if it braked for that because i have driven in rain storms already and nothing happened.there were cars behind me that had to slam on their brakes and swerve to avoid rear ending me.

My car was automatically braked and stopped last week without any reason . there was no car near me , i was driving about 40 mph ...this is the 3rd time it happens since i bought the vehicle in 2017--it breaks for about 5 seconds, then i was in control of the car...this is very dangerous and scary

Automatic braking system has activated two times since i had the car. first time when there was a metal plate in the street about a year ago. on june 22 in brooklyn it went off again for no reason stopping the car abruptly. fortunately no one was behind me. this is very disturbing and dangerous

With no cars around me and no obstructions while driving 60 mph on the freeway brakes slammed on for no reason. i then took it to the dealer they said nothings wrong. i have now taken it to cerittos honda numerous times but they say nothings wrong but it happened again today.

While driving slowly (approximately 25 mph) on a city street, the automatic braking system engaged when approaching a railroad crossing for no apparent reason. the braking force was strong enough to engage the restraint of the seat belts.

I've been to the dealership 5 times now for the same issues: road departure mitigation system failure, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem. i have also been driving the vehicle and with no one in front of me, the car will beep, flash brake, and then the brake system will activate. when this happens the seat belts lock up from the sudden braking. i was told there is an update, and they installed it, supposedly, and the problem should be fixed. i am still having all these problems, and i am now being told there is a software update that is coming out next month. let me reiterate that while driving on the highway the vehicle will randomly brake with no one in front of me. i also had my gear shifter button pop out and brake while shifting to drive the other day. i had to drive to honda, and get that replaced, and was told that it is a common problem.

I was driving my honda cr-v on a highway using the hov lane. at some point while driving normally the front driver side seemed to have collapse and the car started pulling strong in one direction towards the center divider line. with two hands on the wheel the pull was so strong that i would barely control the car and keep it from crashing into the divider. barely missing the divider i managed to stop the car on the shoulder luckily without anyone colliding into me. if i was driving in the middle lane this could have prompted a major accident. i didn't go over any pothole or obstruction on the road. no one hit me nor did i hit anyone. no airbags inflated nor warning indicators appear on the console. i called the police and once on the scene the police swept the highway to determine if there were any potholes or obstacles that could have caused the incident. they confirmed that non existed and that the road was deemed safe. there was no police report produced as the police deemed the incident to be a non accident and instead a breakdown since there was no collision or altercation. when looking at the car damage there was significant damage to the wheel, wheel well, rim which split up vertically, rotar, suspension, wheel caliper, brakes (which fell off in pieces) and basically everything attached to the driver side wheel. the vehicle needed to be towed as it was not operational at that point. when brought back to the honda dealer the dealer could not find anything reported on the computer. there only explanation was that the car was involved in an accident. the dealer did not want to further investigate or find fault even though the vehicle was still covered under the warranty. this incident seemed to be a mechanical malfunction that occurred that almost took my life and could be a potential safely concern for other honda cr-v drivers if not properly investigated.

The automatic breaking function is randomly applying the brakes, or warning to brake, at random times when there are no other vehicles or people around the car. the automatic braking system has applied itself 3 times, with very hard braking to the point that the seatbelts locked up, while merging or exiting the freeway, going anywhere from 25-45 mph'ish. one time i was almost rear ended and the vehicle behind had to swerve to avoid hitting me (because they were also tailgating), another time was while exiting a bridge, and the most recent was this morning while merging onto the freeway in front of a big rig and the brakes randomly slammed themselves on for absolutely no reason. while driving on surface streets it has automatically applied the brakes lightly at least twice, and given countless false braking warnings when driving around city streets. this is a major safety hazard!

I had just come off the highway exit on to the city street. i was increasing my speed and moving over to the left. just as i got into the left lane the cr-v suddenly started to flash break on the dash in front of me and i could feel the vehicle break hard on it's own. i was lucky no one was behind me. there was no person/vehicle in front of me that i would need to brake for. i took the vehicle the next day to the honda garage and they could not find anything. there was no fault code in the system nor could the technician duplicate this issue. i was lucky that this happen at night without much traffic if this would have happen going to work on the highway someone could have been seriously injured or killed. i have seen other cr-v owners report the same thing happen on forums. i am very weary now to drive to work with this issue. i used to love my cr-v now i don't want to drive it but have no choose as it is my only transportation to work.

I was driving my car about 2 weeks ago on the weekend when the car stopped suddenly while driving normally, there was no need for the brakes to be activated. i was driving straight at about 40 mph , there was a wall on the far left side of the road( about 2 meter height), anyhow, the brakes system should not be activated --similarly a year ago in 208 i had the same problem , brakes goes off by iteslef without any need for it...this is dangerous as someone could have hit me from the back.

On multiple occasions, while the vehicle is in motion, the system has made an alert sound and the instrument panel has provided the following notifications: "break system" indicator is lit; collision mitigation system problem; road departure mitigation system problem; and today (3/28/2019) while the cruise control was engaged, it also displayed adaptive cruise control problem. it shuts down these systems and the car drives with a slight "drag" to its movement. the only way to correct this issue is to pull over, turn the car off, wait, and then restart. the system checks itself and resets. this is unpredictable, cannot be specifically initiated, and therefore is difficult to take for repair when there is no indication at the time of the vehicle being in need of repair. there is clearly something wrong with the software, the computer, or an electrical connection. i am the original owner, vehicle was purchased in october 2017.

Vehicle was stopped at a light . when light turned green, began to enter the intersection when vehicle suddenly flashed brake warning and brought car to complete stop. there was nothing in front of the vehicle. luckily the vehicle behind did not hit the back of my car. third time since i purchased the vehicle that this has happened, bar braking with nothing in front of it.

Driving on a multi lane road, no cars in from of me. my speed was about 45 mph. collision avoidance braking system was activated bringing vehicle to an almost complete stop. i had 2 passengers who can corroborate story.

On 3-11-19 at 6:14 pm i was driving with my wife on a parkway. weather was clear and sunny, 39 degrees. there were no cars in front of me. i had the cruise control set at 61 mph when suddenly my vehicle put the brakes on disengaged the cruise control and lane assist control . then a code flashed up saying 'auto high beam problem'. after a 15 minutes to reach my home i checked the high beams it was fine. in the last 4 weeks i have had code flash on the screen while i am driving saying system failure, for 5-10 minutes. *dt*jb *dt consumer stated this was the sixth time.*jb

While driving in cruise control, the brake light will come on and the vehicle will almost come to a complete stop, with no one in front of me. my wife and i were almost in an accident when this happened on i-75 at 65 mph. also, this brake light indicator will come on without being in cruise. this has happened over 6 times.

Vehicle was shut off at a tire shop to get new tires put on. upon attempting to start the car again, a warning showed up on the screen saying "electronic brake failure". the car is equipped with electronic brakes that automatically turn on when the car is put into park and turned off. they are supposed to turn back off when the car is started, but on this occasion they were unable to turn back off. this stopped the car from being able to start at all, multiple indicators on the dash were throwing errors, the check engine light was on, the brake light was flashing, and it continued to show "electronic brake failure". when the dealership was contacted they said there wasn't anything they could do but to tow it 2 hours away to look at it, then they suggested disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes to get the brakes to release, which was done and did release the brakes and clear the error. because the battery was removed, any codes stored were cleared so when it was brought in the car showed that everything was fine and they were unable to reproduce the issue. it seems to be a common enough issue now on all new hondas with the electronic brake feature to the point that googling it will come up with multiple forums talking about it.

Nothing happened.

Oil level is going up. when you check the dip stick, it smells like gas amd it's over the maximum level. for the has pedal, when you press it it's squeaking.

Amber caution annunciation for acc, cms, rwds and lkas with steady brake system amber indicator while driving on a two-lane highway at highway speeds. pulled onto shoulder of highway, shut off ignition and restarted, clearing the cautions.

Warning lights turn on every assistant system. everything disables making the car unsafe to drive.

While driving down 2-lane road with cars parked parallel the cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) activated at approximately 30 mph and abruptly stopped my vehicle causing the seat belt to lock. reported incident to dealership and they updated software but were unable to reproduce fault. several months later the cmbs activated again this time at approximately 45 mph and only momentarily. no vehicles were in front of me in either instance and thankfully none were behind me. this dangerous unintended activation of the braking system could cause an accident.

When i got into car in shopping plaza parking lot i attempted to put my vehicle in reverse at which time and the gear shifter knob fell out and crumbled into pieces. not able to move vehicle nor put in park. after inspecting temporarily put piece in which enabled me to get home. while driving felt very unsafe not knowing if it would remain in gear. once home unable to put in park. luckily vehicle has button brake system which enabled me to put brakes on and get husband's help. he temporarily enabled vehicle into park after which vehicle although in park never fully turned off. due to christmas could not get to dealer til today. battery dead. charged, took to dealer replaced without comment. after googling, this appears to be an ongoing issue for a number of years. i believe this could cause dangerous situations. i personally was very distressed. this has not been a recall issue. i definitely believe it should.

Radio locks up and then indicator lights on dash flash - brake failure, vsa failure, tpms failure, ldw failure, acc failure, lkas failure, cmbs failure. had it at honda service two times and they reinstalled software and did a hard reboot. issue reared its head again dec 14, took to honda service with lights flashing for a computer read. service scheduled for dec 19 to look into issues and perform recall repair. check engine light has been on since i took it in dec 14. car seems to run fine even with indicator lights flashing. issue happened first time while on interstate going 70 mph. secong time on backroad going 45 mph.

My car is having electrical issues with the honda sensing. braking on its own at random times at various rates of speed. the most serious on the highway at speed of about 75 mph. the car shut down and the computer systems had all kinds of codes of system failures. also now we are having an issue of oil dilution due to gasoline. my oil was changed a few days later still over the full line and fumes of gas evident. talking with honda dealership currently where purchased and honda corporate case was filed. so far they are down playing it in texas dispite numerous consumer complaints and commonality of issue being reported at the dealership level.

A situation in which the dashboard lights show multiple system failures including failures of the rdm, cruise control, brakes and cmbs. this has happened twice, including a second time immediately after the dealer "fixed" the problem. the car has beed stopped but idling in both situation. i drove immediately to the dealership the first time and did not even leave the dealership the second time. an indication of a "brake system failure" is disconcerting even though there seems to be no affect on vehicle performance, other than these safety features being rendered inoperable.

Button plus spring popped out of the shifter while in motion.

Vehicle was parked and would not start suddenly after being off and not on accessory mode. when vehicle was jump started and when vehicle restarted the dashboard read many errors among them, break system error, road departure mitigation system problem, vehicle stability assist problem. i have been the sole owner/driver of the vehicle and get it serviced at the dealership as advised.

On early oct 2017, automatic braking system applied (slammed) for no apparent reasons at 45 mph. no cars were in front and luckily none was behind. happened on mid day, clear and sunny day. there were several occasions that brake warning activated while no pending traffic. went to dealer to checkup and was told "never heard of such issues with this brake issues". it totally did not make sense that the adviser recommended turning off brake sensing feature!? on a separate issue, front adaptive shutter malfunction while was on the highway causing loss of power. system reset itself after pulling off the road shutoff and restart the engine. dealer said they were not able to replicate this issue and found no faulty problems.

While driving on a secondary road, i crossed some road construction that had a large metal plate across the road covering where there had been some digging. my car suddenly and without warming came to almost a complete stop while automatically braking while crossing this metal plate, almost causing me to be rear ended by another car. i was driving about 40 mph in a suburb area. this happened at least 2 other times when i crossed this same plate on the road before avoiding this area with this car. very scary and dangerous as there was no good reason to stop the car.

On monday, 8-20-18, the collision avoidance system caused the car to slam on it's brakes. there were no other vehicles or pedestrians anywhere near the vehicle. in the past, the brake light on the dash has lit up before with no vehicles around, but this is the first time it has slammed on the brakes. i took it to the dealer who said everything checked out fine, then printed out a bunch of papers for me explaining how the system works, which is basically saying it didn't happen. we are very fortunate that there were no cars behind us. this is a serious issue which needs to be dealt with before someone gets hurt.

I was driving home 20 mile per hour .. i put my left turn signal on cuz i was gonna turn left all he warring sign pop up and i push my car break and my car didn't stop and then i put gear on park and my car still moving ... and then i push power off and my car stop on the side road ... i so scare ... and i waiting about 2 minute and push power on and drive safe home ... (when i home i research on google and i found a lot of people have the same problem like me plz watch those video ' https://youtu.be/6amqzdqnmgm ' and ' https://youtu.be/jhtwxjxcota ' ) what if i happen like that in highwayor traffic ... i could die plz help i buy new car cuz i want to drive safe for very long time and now my vehicles is still new but not safe to drive ...

The car automatically braked for no reason. i was a good 4 car lengths behind car ahead of me. there was slight (less than 1/4 inch) lip in road- not even a metal plate

Honda sensing issue - when driving in normal conditions, the vehicle would apply brake by itself as if a frontal collision is expected even if there were no other vehicle in-front.

After jumping the battery - when starting the vehicle with foot on the brake, pedal jerks momentarily before starting the engine. the vehicle was in the garage with dead battery after 2 days of not being used.

Foward collision avoidance - when driving in normal condition, the vehicle will abruptly apply brake by itself activating the forward collision avoidance system. the "brake" warning comes-up in the driver's dashboard to provide a visual warning. this happens even if there were no vehicle in-front and anticipated frontal collision. this abrupt and random braking can cause a rear-end collision.

Honda sensing activated and slammed on the brakes during regular suburban driving without anything to prompt it. i was driving about 40 miles an hour down a local road without having a car in front of me. the vehicle slammed on the brakes and sent a warning as if something was impeding the front pathway while moving. there were not any cars in front and the car slammed on the brakes causing my belt to lock unexpectedly and vehicle to slow down dramatically leading to me almost being rear ended.

While approaching and crossing over a railroad crossing at approximately 30mph on a city street, the word brake flashed a couple times and my car completely stopped, so hard as if i slammed my brakes on and my purse flew off the front passenger seat and i was jolted forward, my seatbelt tightened. the same thing has happened one time since then. i'm not sure if this is a braking problem or front camera sensory problem but it was very confusing and scary.

I parked my car and turned it off to go into a store. when i came out i found that my car had rolled backwards into another car. fortunately there was no damage to either car, as i assume it occurred at a very low speed. when i renetered the vehicle it was still in the drive gear, which was my error. however, i don't know how the car was able to be turned off completely and locked while not even in park or even neutral. moreover the car was in the drive gear, which i would presume would mean it would go forward, but it was still able to roll backwards. this is incredibly concerning. i called honda and was informed there are no recalls and the best they could do was to inform their engineering team for future models. i have had other cars and was not able to turn off the ignition unless the car was in park. honda should be forced to implement this as well as i cannot think of any reason to keep your car in drive while the engine is completely off.

Honda crv braking system failurejune 2018 model: cr-v year: 2017 mileage: 5,900 vin: [xxx] on june 23rd, 2018, while exiting a freeway at about 60mph, i removed my foot from the accelerator and applied normal pressure to the brake pedal, but no braking occurred. i tried pumping the brake pedal, but there was no response. i then used greatly increased pressure on the brake pedal, but with no discernible effect. after about eight seconds of continued extreme pedal pressure, a yellow "braking system" warning light came on, followed by a red "brake" warning light on the instrument cluster. immediately following the appearance of the warning lights, a loud noise was heard, coming from the wheels, accompanied by a vibration which i interpreted as modulated braking that could be felt through mechanical feedback in the pedal. the car came to a stop just in time, behind traffic that had been waiting at a signal light. ten seconds after standing at the light, all warning lights extinguished, and the brakes functioned normally thereafter. when the vehicle was taken to the dealership from which it was purchased for warranty repairs, the service representative stated that he was familiar with the problem, had recently encountered an identical case of braking system failure, but that his service department had been unable to find the fault or enact repairs. he declined to examine my vehicle on that basis. since the dealer service center provided no resolution, i updated the software in my own scanner, connected it to the vehicle, and found that two error codes had been recorded: 1) u0418-68/p esb failure eminent 2) u0416-68/p vsa system malfunction dtc i am continuing to pursue a remedy to the braking system failure that occurred in my vehicle, since it represents an ongoing and unreasonable risk. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My car automatically braked when i approached a metal plate in the road. i was not driving at a high speed and would have easily gone over the plate. i was on a town street, going straight at about 20 mph. if someone was behind me, they would have crashed into me. there was no need for the braking.

Was driving normally when abs, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency breaking, and breaking system "problem" lights lit up all at once. limped the car home.

The anti-collision automatic braking system incorrectly engaged when approaching a flat metal plate in the parking lot of a shopping center. the vehicle was moving at approx. 5-10 mph when it suddenly started beeping, and flashing the "brake" warning alert on the driver's dashboard console. i was driving and, not seeing any people or approaching vehicles or anything else ahead of me, didn't know why the automatic braking was flashing a warning. before i had a chance to "gently" brake to see what the situation was, suddenly the automatic braking system "violently" engaged, bringing the vehicle to an immediate stop just before the metal plate. please see the attached photograph of the metal plate that i took several minutes later. the brakes did not engage when going back over the plate in the opposite direction, or when attempting to duplicate the incident. the incident happened on march 25, 2018 at approximately 4:45 pm arizona time. i called the honda dealer the next day to report the incident. no service manager was available to speak with me, and the receptionist said that she would leave a message with one of them. i have yet to be called back, 4 weeks later. i want the honda dealer to read the codes from the onboard computer system(s) to 1) verify that the automatic braking system engaged, and 2) see if there is any supporting data for why the system incorrectly engaged. more importantly, i want to report this incident to the nhtsa. doing an internet search turned up several other public reports on websites of similar incidents. a false positive for an impending collision was determined by the vehicle's "smart system" algorithms, which then triggered a physical reaction (automatic involuntary braking). fortunately the vehicle was moving at only 5-10 mph, rather than 45 mph on a city road or 65 mph on a highway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that while driving on the interstate at approximately 65-70 mph, the brake mitigation system suddenly activated abruptly applying the brakes to stop the vehicle erroneously and causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and spin out before crashing into a guard rail. during the crash, the front end sustained significant damage but the air bags did not deploy. the contact indicated no other vehicles were present when the mitigation system erroneously activated. the driver sustained neck back and chest injuries and the occupant seated in the rear passenger seat sustained neck, back and front torso injuries. medical attention was not required. a police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was still drivable. the manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 19,000.
