the button on our shifter stuck inside the shifter itself and we were unable to turn the car completely off...ran the battery down and needed to jump start the car. had to use a screwdriver to get the button out again. checked to see if my car was in a recall and nothing was showing. how is this possible? many other honda crv owners are having this exact problem. it's not safe
The push button on the transmission shifter broke off and could not shift the car out of drive in a safe manner. had to put parking brake on (was on an incline)and shut off car and look for the button. was able find it and insert it temporarily to get home.
While driving down the hwy at 65 mph the button in the gear shift popped out. it is a piece of plastic and it broke inside the gear handle. i drove home but without this button inserted i am not able to shift to park, reverse, drive. i took it to the westhills honda dealer for repair. i was told there was a recall on this same issue but not for this vin. to me this is a very serious concern.
Vehicle was driven friday 1/3/2020 in a mix of driving that included thirty-five miles at 70mph+ and secondary trip of ten miles in town that was a mix of traffic lights and slow moving traffic. while driving vehicle in slow moving traffic cabin of vehicle filled with gas fumes, first faintly, but became worse until headache and nausea occurred. vehicle was eventually parked and rested for ten minutes to check oil along with interior air refresh. while checking oil i observed the oil level .75 inches above the full mark on the dip stick with an overall strong odor of fuel. engine operated as it always has, no check engine light, and no evidence of drive ability problems. oil level was also observed to be .75 inches above full mark 11/24/2019 and subsequent photo was taken. oil was changed 1/4/2020 at 50,189 with oil life at 50% with 5,714 miles. prior oil change service occurred at 44,475 miles on 8/27/2019 and the oil level was verified at full line . fuel smells have been noticed in this vehicle since 300 miles on odometer. vehicle was brought to dealer december 12/2017 for fuel smell complaint but no rectification made. 12/2018 the dealer performed tsb 18-114 which included hvac module replacement, and reprogram tcu and pcm, and change oil. after this much anticipated update virtually no change was observed as oil rise and fuel smells continued to occur. during the winter of 2018-2019 oil rise increased .50" above full mark at 5000 mile oil, but premium fuel was utilized consistently. we also observed very few instances of gas smell in cabin. manufacturer has communicated this vehicle does not require premium fuel. this vehicle is driven mostly highway miles, 25 miles per trip at 70mph+. our driving situation contradicts the manufacturer explanation of short trips as cause of excessive oil dilution by fuel.
The shift button on the automatic transmission shifter fell off. it is broke so the car cannon be put back into park.
The heat does not work properly when it is cold out. auto start does nothing to warm up the car. the cars temperature gauge only moves towards the center when the car is moving. once is it half way, a normal car would then produce heat. not this car! you turn the heat on and the gauge drops all the way down, to nothing! with the heat not working i'm left with windows that are foggy/icy which limits my visibility creating dangerous driving conditions. i noticed tgis sooncas the cold weather came around and its still doing it to this day. i have read multiple forums where so many people have the same problem with 3000-4000 miles on the brand new car. some people did repairs and still no heat.
Gear shift button popped out while driving: i was driving with my children in the car, the button popped out as i was trying to drop them off at school. this could have been a truly deadly situation in a crowded drop off because the car would not go to park. thankfully i quickly recovered from shock, hit the brakes and scrambled to grab the piece that had fallen to the floor of the car. the button piece looks cheap, so now the coil is exposed. i can't just stick my finger in so i am going to need to tape the button back on until i get it fixed. this is an obvious recall issue since so many people have mentioned it. i wouldn't have reported it if i didn't see so many online complaints.
While shifting the vehicle into reverse the gear shift release button popped out. thus not allowing me to put the vehicle back in park until putting the gear release button back into the gear shift handle. i noticed a spring had popped out of the great shift handle along with the shift release button.
I was driving down the road after leaving a movie. i probably wasn't going over 25 mph. something flew into the floor, and i though my keys had slid into the floor. i came to a stop light and looked down. the knob to my gear shift and the spring had flown off the handle. i had to pull over and reach down and find the parts and try to press them into the gear shift so that i could put the car in park. i was in the city, but i live in a small town. i was going down a straight road.
My entire gear shifter assembly fell apart while i put in in park this morning. now i cant drive it at all. it was stationary when this happened
Shifter nod broke and snapped from my honda crv 2017 today. it's a new car and this is a defect safety hazard for any driver. i can see it's a very cheap plastic the way the nod is made of. i want to report to honda so it's getting covered the repair.
Shift knob button popped out yesterday, saturday 9/28/19, while in stationary position shifting from park to drive. had to keep my foot on the brake until i could locate the spring that popped out. will have to carefully hold the button in place to shift and make sure it doesn't fall out while in motion until i can get to dealer to fix first thing monday.
Issue with drained battery/ vsa modulator. vehicle lights won't turn off when shutting off vehicle. key fob will not work because vehicle battery will die. once jumped, vehicle will die again. battery has been checked and it doesn't seem to need replacing yet no active recall reported.
Silver button on gear shifter popped out at some point while we were driving. did not notice this happening until we went to park and shift gears. we were able to put the button back in and get it into part. continues to fall out and we got stuck in the middle of the road trying to back into our driveway. one time the car would not register that the shifter was in park (even though display indicated p). and would beep when the vehicle was turned off. it's going into the dealership today for repair. multiple other complaints found about this exact issue.
I was accelerating onto a highway when the car suddenly lost acceleration and power, made a high pitched squeal with receipt of the following warnings/alarms: brake system warning, loss of collision avoidance system, electric parking brake problem, road departure mitigation system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, hill assist problem, vehicle stability assist problem, power steering system problem, brake hold problem, emissions system problem to name a few. this is more than troublesome, the guy behind me almost hit me and had to swerve to avoid an accident. more recently i was driving on a highway at night when i lost my headlights and parking lights. in addition the following alarms locked in brake system warning, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure system problem, auto high beam system problem. its one thing to get warnings its another to loose your headlights and parking lights on a busy dark highway. i shudder to think what could have happened. honda does not know what is happening. how can they sell a $30,000 + vehicle and have safety issues such as these? somebody needs to act quickly before folks are killed.
We had difficulty shifting our crv into park on several occasions over a period of a couple of days. eventually we were totally unable to get it into park, and thus could not get the key to the completely off position and remove it, so the battery would have been drained if we left it that way. fortunately the final failure was in our own driveway. quick research on the web pointed us to the problem many have had with the button on the side of the shifter that must be pressed to get in and out of park. sure enough, we found the button was broken inside and not functional. the button and spring fell out as we inspected it. though we're grateful it didn't pop off while we were driving, it seems clear this is a frequent failure that can create a dangerous situation. seems like there should be an official recall.
The vehicle's shift knob button came loose and fell out. at the time, i was parking the vehicle in a parking lot and attempting to shift it from drive to park. in addition to the button, a metal spring and many pieces of broken plastic fell out of the shift knob. fortunately i was able to jam a screwdriver into the shift knob and shift the vehicle into park. the vehicle had just over 12,000 miles when this happened.
**'17 honda cr-v shift lever button (silver) broke off during drive!!** cr-v w/ around 26k miles had the silver button fall out while in motion on a city street on 7/13/2019. i wasn't accelerating or decelerating at the time, it just popped out. i was able to safely pull over and stop, but had a lot of trouble getting it shifted from drive to park. i had to push the loose spring and plastic button back into the shift lever and after 6 tries, was able to put it into park. also, the car won't turn off and won't lock because the computer doesn't recognise that it is parked. the engine start/stop button keeps flashing red.
The gearshift button broke and falls out when put in gear
The gear shift knob broke will i was putting the car in park. the vehicle was in motion.
Vehicle in motion. shifter button failure. cannot shift. stranded vehicle
While trying to put the vehicle in park, the silver button on the left side of the gear shifter flew off. the piece appears to be broken off in the inside. took it to the dealer the next day. the service rep was not surprised. says he has heard of this happening in other cr-v's. he tried to tell me it just popped out, but this thing broke off in the inside. he said he said he was surprised there is no recall. they fixed it. no charge. quite a frightening experience when it happened
The button on the shift knob fell out. it appears to have cracked, and now the button falls out of the shifting handle.
Shift knob botton is broken. one piece falls out of the hole and another is stucked inside the knob.
I just pulled into my garage and could not move the shifter. the button on the side of the shifter wouldn't go in at all. kept trying and the black piece to push in just came out in my hand. it looked like it had broken off down inside the shifter. i pushed it back in and put in park. taking in the morning to honda dealer
While diving randomly at high speeds (60+ mph) and while turning in very good weather all warning lights light up (i have a video) and the vehicle loses power. this has happened a number of times on the highways and a major safety concern. i had to pull out of the highway stop and restart for the vehicle to regain power but the warning lights continue to be lit. after a couple of start and stop it disappears. it is a major safety concern and i have been lucky so far. i have approached the dealership thrice about the issue and they have replaced 2 sensors and updated the software but the issue persists.
In slow moving traffic in front of the local mall, my sunroof exploded there was no collision, no object thrown or dropped into the window. honda refused to accept responsibility for what i learned from research on line, which is that this is an epidemic involving shattered sun roofs.
Collision mitigation system. several times the car has hit the brakes with absolutely no obstacle in front of the car. i did call honda and was told to take it to the dealer to adjust. the rep i spoke to gave me a lecture about it being a safety feature that we have to get used to!!! he also suggested that i may have the setting set to "short." i did check it was set to "normal" i changed it to "long.". it has happened three times since then. once just the audible warning and twice it literally slammed on the brakes and stopped the car - everything that was loose was flying around. i have been extremely fortunate that everytime (5 instances since i got the car in dec 2017 - 4 times on city streets and once on the highway) it has slammed the brakes for no reason, there was none behind me. if there was someone behind me, they would have hit me. i know that if i was driving behind someone who literally brought the car to am immediate stop, i would have hit them. one of these days i am going to get hit.
Shift handle button broke and fail out of shifter.
When backing the honda cr-v in reverse down my driveway, i touched the shift gear and proceeded to place the cr-v into drive. the honda cr-v went into the d position, and i saw a small piece of the knob fall off. i immediately pulled over and tried the put the cr- v into park, however i could not. i had to place the emergency parking break on. this was a very scary experience!
Broken shift button: i was driving this car and the shift button pop out and fell under the driver seat. it created an unsafe condition since i could not put the car to park or shift any gear. many drivers also experience the same thing. the button is connected to the shift gear and it is made from a cheap piece of plastic. it costs $85 to replace at the dealer. honda refuses to reimburse since the car has past its warranty. the car is at 50000 miles. i had to pick it up under the seat and use a hair band to keep it in place until it is repaired at the dealer.
Shift knob button fell off as i was going to put my car in park. i was in the middle of an intersection. very scary moment because i didnt know where that little piece fell. i put a hairband to 'keep it in tact' while i had to take it to dealer to fix which was 5 days later
I had just come off the highway exit on to the city street. i was increasing my speed and moving over to the left. just as i got into the left lane the cr-v suddenly started to flash break on the dash in front of me and i could feel the vehicle break hard on it's own. i was lucky no one was behind me. there was no person/vehicle in front of me that i would need to brake for. i took the vehicle the next day to the honda garage and they could not find anything. there was no fault code in the system nor could the technician duplicate this issue. i was lucky that this happen at night without much traffic if this would have happen going to work on the highway someone could have been seriously injured or killed. i have seen other cr-v owners report the same thing happen on forums. i am very weary now to drive to work with this issue. i used to love my cr-v now i don't want to drive it but have no choose as it is my only transportation to work.
Emissions check light appears - car is driven 25000 miles
Out of warranty but gear shift button has been "sticking" for 1 month and then "broke off" today. car only has 40,000 miles on it and now cannot drive it due to inability to shift gears.
Gear shift button (you depress this to shift gears) popped off, no warning, for no reason. i was shifting into reverse, when i released the button, it flew off. i had to keep my foot on the brake to find the button and stick it back in. it is now loose and will not stay on/in. this could be very dangerous if a car is moving and it pops off...
Shift knob on stick to set car to park, drive, or reverse broke. it does not stay in slot. this caused an issue when i tried to put car into park and realized the button popped out. car was stationary and i was able to put car in neutral, find the button and push in, but still a danger.
The shift gear/shaft button fell apart/broke off all of a sudden, while car was in motion. this rendered the vehicle inoperable as you cannot shift gears. i was unable to figure a safe solution while diving. after talking with others apparently this manufacturer defect is happening to crv owners. i contacted honda and their reply was that if it is not under warranty they are not responsible for repairs. my concern is that if this occurs while driving it can cause an accident and or serious injuries.
While driving on the highway at 65mph the silver button on the gear shift spontaneously broke off the handle used to shift between park, neutral and drive. no one was touching the shifter at that time. this was a very distracting event -- i suddenly saw the broken button. trying to figure out what was "going on" distracted me from looking at the road, with the associated risk of loosing "situational awareness". i was fortunate in that i rapidly refocused on the road and no accident occurred. the person in the front-passenger seat figured out what had happened. i talked to 2 dealers and they indicated that they have seen this with several other crvs. based on my experience and the dealer feedback, this is not an isolated incident. this is a manufacturer defect that impacts multiple cars; the distraction created when it happens on the highway can result in someone getting into a potentially fatal accident if this defect is not proactively addressed. i reported it to honda america. they told me that they will report it to honda, but made no commitment to addressing it or getting back to me on their decision. a proactive recall and repair of the problem needs to happen before someone gets hurt.
Key fob for keyless entry has a feature that auto opens all windows. it is easily activated and per honda cannot be deactivated. i have found on 8 occasions in 2years all my windows open to rain or snow upon going to my car. all items in car could easily be stolen and car has been soaked inside on 4 of the 8 events. this water/snow damage will have aged my owned vehicle. this is a common issue it appears with most hondas in last 7 years. i have finally resorted to bagging my keys and placing them by themselves up high where they cannot be contacted.
The rear backup camera stopped working. when i put the car into reverse, the backup lights come on, but the display in the car stays on what ever was displayed instead of showing what is behind the car. this started last week and hasn't changed.
My vehicle's warning lights are on for all features, including lane assist, stability, collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, tire pressure monitoring and many others. these features are currently not working. the first time the issue occurred was immediately upon starting the vehicle. i've taken it to two different dealers three times. the third time, i was told there was a problem with a fuel valve -- part of a honda "campaign," whatever that means -- and that replacing/repairing the issue could take up to 60 days. i was dismissed from the dealer and told that the issue would not make my car stop working, and that i would be contacted when a part arrived. meanwhile, my car is idling rough and i smell gas upon starting it.
The button that you push in on the gear shift knob broke off while i was driving home. popped right out in my hand. spring and all. had i not been able to put it back in when i got home, i wouldn't have been able to put it in park. apparently this is not unusual as it has happened to two other people i work with within the last 6 months. the car is not a year old yet. i will contact the dealer for repair.
Went to local honda dealer for regular oil change maintenance. after completing, noticed car seemed to be stalling and slow/non response in accelerating. by the time i got home about 7 miles away, all warning lights came up and car would not accelerate and go more than 5 mp/h. very fortunately this happen near my home where traffic is light. would have been very dangerous if it had occurred on highway
While driving at highway speed dash cycled through all systems, power steering, brakes etc. showing all failed! pulled over, stopped car and started car again and system reset itself. don't know if systems actually failed. went to dealer and nothing showed up on the cars diagnostic evaluation. they wanted to charge me for a software update because nothing showed as a problem. after i complained they didn't. car just did same thing again. don't feel safe in it.
Air bags failed to deploy, collision avoidance system failed to function
The gear shift knob popped out of the shifter while i was in reverse and i couldn't take my foot off the break to find it or i would have hit something. luckily i found it and shoved it back in to be able to get into park but it still regularly pops out leaving the shifter stuck in gear.
2017 honda crv parked in garage, when attempting to start engine, dash lights up warnings and sounds alarms on braking system, cruise control, lane assist system, battery, and many other areas. car would not start and goes dead with second attempt to start. dealership had car towed in to diagnose. dealership state that toll tag too close to sensors (even though tag has been on windshield for 18 months with no problem). toll tag scraped off windshield. six weeks later, car in garage and dash lights up with alarms and sounds with same alerts. car goes dead. dealership had car towed in to diagnose.
The led screen goes out of control. words and images become scrambled and it keeps buzzing constantly. i have no control over any settings including the radio. this has happened numerous times both in motion and stationary. if i stop and turn off vehicle and turn it back on it seems to correct itself for a while.
Back up camera and navigation system stopped working while on trip to colorado. car was outside at subfreezing temps and at high altitude (10,000 feet). dealer had to reset when returned to arizona. (occurred while parked overnight).
