Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2008 Honda CR-V

Suddenly all the doors would lock as soon as i would get in i would try to unlock with door switch and the lock back right away. they have locked me out of my own car. i have tried the resetting procedures from manual and they do not change. to get into my car you have to pull handle as soon as you hit unlock on key. *tr

The door locks keep locking and unlocking while i drive. i got locked into the car once, the car door would not open with key or manually. i had to crawl into back seat in order to open door and get out. the doors will not stay locked while i drive. this is very dangerous. when i'm stopped at a signal anyone could jump into the car. the door won't always lock when i get out of the car. someone got into the car and went through my glove box because the car wouldn't lock. i feel honda should have a recall and fix the door locks. i have seen quite a few complaints on the internet with others who have the same problem. *tr

The car kept saying a door was opened when it wasn't and then because of that the car wouldn't lock when i was in it and then the interior lights wouldn't go off. then, it just stopped happening. then on 1/14, every time i used the brake when i was driving, the doors would unlock and the interior lights would go on. and then when i would accelerate the doors would lock and the interior lights would go off. this all began the week after i took the car to the dealership to get new tires (where they ripped me off by charging me $1,300 to replace 4 tires!). very frustrating. *tr

The automatic door locks do not function properly. they lock and unlock several times while i am driving the vehicle. when i park, i am unable to lock my car securely. i also have difficulty unlocking the doors at times. this is very unsafe in my neighborhood. *tr

Locking actuator does not engaged. when trying to lock the door manually the actuator will automatic unlock the doors. this is a safety issue. after some research this is an ongoing issue with honda, and honda will not see this as a safety issue. *tr

While the vehicle is running or not the driver's side lock unlocks itself! it unlocks itself while the car is in drive, when it is stopped at a stop light, and when it is in park. i cannot lock the car with the remote from the outside, and when i manually lock the car while on the inside, it unlocks itself! *tr

Unable to lock rear doors when in park. rear doors lock and unlock spontaneously when in drive. when doors lock spontaneously, unable to open doors from inside even when in park. *tr

Driver side door does not lock at all. front passenger door locks immediately after pressing unlock. all doors lock and unlock while driving. it started about a year and a half ago and was worse in warm weather. now, it's just bad all the time. it's a safety issue if i can't lock the car even with the key in the driver's door. my wife and i are the original owners. *js

The door actuator went out first on my passenger front door and automatically locks now every time i stop the actuators cycles on all 4 doors and tries to relock. this is very annoying and also i like to add please don't waste your money on the black chrome rims mine are peeling solid chrome is not supposed to peel so that was $3000 wasted. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated when turning the ignition switch, there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle before staring. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the starter motor and the wiring cable needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000. ..updated 08/11/14 *bf updated 08/19/2014 *js

The door actuator on the front passenger and driver side started to act up. at first when locking the door, the door slowly unlock itself, but over the period of couple of days the door started to make jamming mechanism noise (click, click, click...). now every time when i drive, the car doors mechanism does not sense that the door is locked, and always get jammed trying to lock the door (even though the doors already is locked).

Vehicle door locks immediately relock themselves when trying to unlock car. sometimes it keeps me trapped in the car trying to open the door fast enough before it relocks itself. this is a safety concern in the event of an emergency and need to evacuate car. *tr

Front passanger door lock will briefly unlock then on its own lock itself. you have to force the door lock open just to get out and once the lock opens it slowly locks itself. the key fob and lock switch will briefly unlock the latch. (we do have factory installed alarm). my wife also noticed dome light no longer coming on (might just be dead bulb). this could be a huge issue in an accident if passenger or emergency personal are unable to open door due to lock always locking itself. a lot of force is needed to unlock the door. it seems like the door actuator is getting a lock signal and staying in the locked position. again you can momentarily manually force the door lock open and with the switch/keyfob. recent repairs: we did recently replace the car battery because the car lost electrical power (car would not start). we also just replaced the ac/heater blower motor because when the hvac was powered on we heard very loud whirling/clicking noise. we also just changed all four struts because they were leaking but no electrical was touched during this repair. *tr

In august of 2012, the right rear door lock would not stay locked. we had the faulty part replaced. now in june of 2013, we are having problems with the right front door lock. it began by not staying unlocked. when unlocked the door by ( any method), the lock would only stay unlocked for less than a second before relocking on its own. now the problem has changed to where the door will not stay locked as in the problem door lock from last year. the door continues to try to lock each time the vehicle reaches the speed that the doors lock automatically. *tr

The first problem uncovered: the driver's door cannot be manually unlocked with a key. my daughter drove the car to a concert using the valet key and discovered at midnight that she couldn't enter the car. after family arrived with electronic key it was determined that it would not manually open the door either. following that incident we noticed the driver's door will randomly re-lock itself after the ignition is turned off and the door has initially unlocked. the locking system sometimes makes a "whirring" when engaged. the latest development: the passenger side rear door and the hatch refused to unlock using either the electronic key or the driver door controls. also, the rear passenger door couldn't be opened manually using the button on the door itself- it wouldn't budge! the next day, the problem fixed itself... at least for now. *tr

After several days of intermittent air-conditioning (cooling) function, the ac compressor failed. dealer mechanic reports the compressor coil failed (melted?). conditions at the time were high ambient temperatures (ca. 90-100 degrees f). i'm filing this report to corroborate numerous online accounts of similar failures in newer model honda cr-vs with 50,000-60,000 miles of use. *tr

The front passenger door lock slowly locks by itself after the key fob is used to unlock the doors. the rear passenger door will slowly unlock by itself after the key fob is used to lock the doors (exact opposite of the front passenger door). the car locks will repeatedly lock and unlock themselves while driving. this is a severe safety issue as the car cannot be locked now. all auto-lock features were turned off and the condition still exists. *tr

Locks wont stay locked. once locked the rear doors slowly unlock.they have now started making an awful noise when locking or unlocking. since the doors automatically lock when my car accelerates, and then unlock themseves, i have to hear this noise constantly while driving in stop and go traffic. *tr

The front passenger door unlocks immediately after locking it, with remote or by the door itself. this is a hazard because anyone can enter vehicle when stopped at traffic light or stop sign or when vehicle is parked. *tr

Doors lock and unlocked while driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated that all four door actuators were replaced on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the actuator needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 64,000.

Door lock malfunction 1. doors wont lock with remote. 2.when you park car and turn off ignition it unlocks all 4 doors an you have to manualy lock them, but if you open drivers side door befor you shut off ignition it wont open other doors.it has many problems with locks its unsafe.

Doors lock and unlock themselves. *tr

I drove into the rear end of a truck when i glanced away. the car crumbled and the airbags never deployed. shockingly, the car was repaired. i have the car back and the keys will not remove from the ignition. each time it is more difficult to remove them. *tr

Door lock actuator on rear passenger door began to give out and rattle when trying to lock or unlock. it also failed to unlock or lock and at times locked and unlocked on its own. lock was replaced. just recently, the driver door did the same and it was also replaced. now the driver rear and front passenger are doing the exact same thing. sometimes the door locks and unlocks automatically or when i unlock the door, it quickly relocks. same rattling noise as other two doors. *tr

I bought my car brand new in november 2007. it is a 2008 honda cr-v 5dr 2wd ex. a couple/few years back, the locks started acting up. it was always the same two, the front passenger door and the rear door. i would push the unlock button on my key, and the other 3 doors would unlock, but those 2 would not. i tried using the unlock/lock buttons on the driver's door, and after hitting the lock button first and then unlock several times, it would work and those 2 doors would eventually unlock. and then sometimes all of a sudden they would start unlocking again using the key. this has been an ongoing annoyance for the past 2-3 years. i can't remember the exact date or mileage when it first happened. probably about a year ago, they finally stopped completely. they will not unlock at all using the key or the driver's door. the passenger one, of course, i can manually unlock from the inside if needed. but the rear i have absolutely no way of opening that door. completely ridiculous!!! it has been a complete pain to not have that storage area. i have had to lower the back seats to put anything in there. it also caused me to incur damage to my car this year. i had a flat and needed the spare tire. well, i had to climb through the doors into the back where my spare was, only to realize you couldn't get to the spare because the rear door was in the way. so i had to rip the back flap to get to the tire. so that will cost me money to fix. this is in addition to the dealer telling me each actuator will cost over $300 to get replaced. after researching trying to find this actuator part, i came across the lawsuit and many many others with this problem. sounds like honda needs to recall this and pay for fixing their problem!!! *tr

Lock on right front door has been malfunctioning for approximately 2 years. it started by locking and unlocking by itself. now it is making a horrible sound every time i lock or unlock it. i have always worried about getting stuck in the car when it decided to lock and "not" unlock. i have been assisting a 92 year old women. imagine if she was stuck in the car because of a locking problem or imagine a child stuck in the car because of this defect. i have been researching and it is something that honda needs to take care of. thank you!

A few weeks before my 36 month warranty was up, my door actuator went out in the left rear door. it was replaced and worked fine until recently 18 months later it seems the same door actuator has gone out. i am taking it in to be replaced for over $200 which is a bit much for a limited income. the door is worse now than before in that it keeps cycling locking and unlocking as i'm driving. i think honda should replace for free as it is obviously defective from what i have read online. *tr

The honda crv locks and will not release it takes some time pushing on the locks and so forth to get out of the vehicle. it is frightening to have the doors lock and not release. if an accident were to happen panic could set in and people could burn up in the car. or die trying to get out. my daughter and her grandbaby are in this vehicle all the time. i am afraid for their life. the dealer says it is out of warranty i say it is health and safety and no time limit exists for a life threatening problem. *tr

I have a 2008 crv and my door lock actuators are failing to keep the doors of the vehicle locked. this is the second time or third time i have had them replaced and they have burned out again and are leaving the doors of my vehicle unlocked at speed. i press the lock button and they lock only to unlock seconds latter. they only seem to have a service life of 20k-35k miles! this mean every two years i have all the locks in my car fail to remain locked. i have a american car from 1996 and the original locks still work fine and stay locked! *tr

My 2008 honda crv in 2010 began having problems with the rear door lock and then the hatch lock. when i put the rear door lock into child safety mode and took it off child safety mode, the door lock would not unlock. it kept locking and i would have to manually press down on the lock button in order to open the door from the outside. i took it to a honda car dealership service dept. and was told it was the actuator and it happens often to honda vehicles and it would cost me $380 to repair it even thought the part i was told was actually only $80 dollars. to me and to everyone else this has happened to, this is obviously a manufacturer's defect if it happens often to honda vehicles. i refused the repair because it was very expensive. later in a few weeks, my hatch would not unlock unless the defective rear door lock was also unlocked. now, it is 2014 and as of friday, 2/28/14, all my locks are now locking immediately after i used my automatic door unlock on my key fob. i can't even get into my car unless i'm quick about it before it locks on me again. then when i want to get out of my car and the door unlocks, before i can even open the door to get out of my car, all the locks lock up again without my having done anything. this is a safety hazard for me and my family. the door locks are defective and honda should take responsibility to fix these defects. here is the link to arfc.org which has a list of complaints by other honda crv owners having the same defective issues: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2008/honda/cr-v/latches_locks_linkages/problem.aspx. is it necessary for honda driver or their children or other family member go to their grave until this defect is addressed? i urge the nhtsa board to read all the complaints and take action to make honda set a recall for this defect so that honda crv and other honda vehicle owners are safer on the road. *tr

Ongoing problem from when i purchased the cr-v in 2010. many times when shifting into reverse there is an loud, audible clunking as the gears grind. i've been parked next to other cr-v's and noticed the same noise as the cr-v is put into reverse. this must be a common problem. also the doors were locking and unlocking on their own while i was driving, and i had to have the lock mechanisms on all 4 passenger doors replaced. lastly there is an annoying whistling noise in the duct work for the heat and a/c. i have to keep the recycle button on to somewhat diminish it.

Passenger door lock automatically locks and can not manually be unlocked. took to dealer at the first opportunity, i was told care was "just out of warranty". car is now at 75,000 miles and all 5 door locks have failed. resulting in my keys being locked inside at a car wash by the employees. current class action suit is pending. honda will do nothing about it except charge me nearly $325 for each door lock repair. honda should do more to please their customers when it is such a common problem. *tr

The passenger door locks immediately after unlocking, before you can grab the handle, preventing you from opening the door. the front seat passenger is trapped inside the vehicle. this may seem like a minor problem but if the passenger needed to get out of the vehicle in case of accident, fire or water then they will have no chance and could suffer serious injury or death. from reading incident reports on this site, this seems to be very common problem and it should be fixed before someone dies. *tr

Purchased a new honda crv on friday july 25th. two days later, with less than 200 miles on the odometer, the battery light, exclamation mark, vehicle stability light and check engine light came on, the vehicle hesitated while attempting to accelerate, and rolled back when the transmission was in the drive mode. i took the crv to the honda dealership where they cleaned the alternator terminals, that did not fix the problem. they have now changed the alternator but the check engine light is still on. now they think that the engine air 'intake' may be the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shake violently. the technician diagnosed that the engine was tilted and that there were two broken motor-mounts both needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. in addition, the contact stated that the air compressor was defective and was replaced. the failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. *tr
