STARTER ASSEMBLY 1

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2008 Honda CR-V

I parked the car in my garage, 6 days later, i could not open the doors using remote control key, then i opened the drive side door mechanically, and pressed the door-control button, no response, and pressed the horn, no response. put the key to try to start the car, no response (even no noise). i checked and found ig main fuse was blown out (not 100% sure, it is difficult to take out the fuse due to over tightened screw) using a charger to charge battery, and found powder window has response, but doors did not response, put the key to start, some lights came on in the panel, but not sound at all. how the ig fuse was blown out during the parking, it must be happen when i pulled out my key 6 days ago when i parked my car. check with all friends and google search, no clue what happen! i will ask the car to be towed a shop to check by a technician. i never do anything to change car wring, never install anything into the car. *jb

I have been having issues with the locks on my 2008 honda crv. it started on the passenger side of my car. it initially would not stay locked. i contacted the dealer and they advised no recalls. after about 6 months it started working again. then about another 6 months it quit again. (weather related?). now that lock stays locked all the time. we are not able to unlock it...not even manually. about a year later the rear passenger lock wasn't locking correctly. i contacted the dealer again and they couldn't help me. now the rear drivers side lock does not work properly. it sounds like a machine gun going off everytime the car hits the 10 mph. i have contacted the dealer and advised no recalls. i was quoted $800.00 to have them repaired. (lock actuators?) i cant believe this is happening only to my car. by the locks not working is a safety issue for myself and kids. i have teenage daughters and a granddaughter. it they encounter any danger and are not able to lock or unlock the doors is a major safety issue. now my granddaughter wont ride in the car because it sounds like a machine gun. i have not had any issues with the driver side lock. i can't really submit any pictures because they will not show the issues. i bought this car brand new and know the history. this is my 2nd honda crv and i loved them until now. i cant believe i am the only one having this issue.

Cannot unlock the doors. when i use the key fob or the unlock switch on the door, doors unlock and instantly re-lock themselves. in order to enter or exit the vehicle i need to use two hands and simultaneously unlock the door and pull the door handle. i need two people to open the tail gate. *js

On 08/26/2013 the front right door on my 2008 honda cr-v started to unlock itself even when in motion. it would lock and then unlock itself again. i had the honda dealer in old bridge, nj fix the issue a few days later. then on 09/11/2013 all of a sudden all doors of the vehicle started to lock themselves immediately after unlocking. many times doors will not unlock at all making it difficult to get into or out of the vehicle. *tr

My car door drivers side lock stopped working in may it cost me close to $700 to replace both sides honda said i had to do both of them. the when i was driving out the end of may to visit my mom in washington state, my sunroof exploded out in the middle of no where. that was $1400 in wa to replace. on the way home in august my ac stopped working just blew hot air when it was 92 outside. i have never had any of these things happen to any other car. there all very uncommon so they say but after researching the ac clutch problem i see it happens a lot and honda should fix it for free! i will never buy another honda ever!! *tr

The power door lock on the front passenger door will not stay locked. as soon as you lock it manually or with the key fob, it will slowly unlock itself. this occurs if the car is parked or in motion. it will lock itself if the auto accelerates over 10mph, but then will again slowly unlock seconds later and will stay in the unlock position. this in turn defeats the security system, making it ineffective, allowing the passenger door to be opened without setting off the alarm. i attempted to reset the locking mechanism as stated in the owner's manual but it does not fix the issue.

The driver side door lock and could not be unlocked. i had to crawl across to the passenger side to exit the automobile. i understand that this is an fairly happens with several hondas that has not bee addressed by the company. also it is fairly costly to have it repaired.this happened august 9, 2013. *tr

While driving down the interstate the passenger side front door unlocked itself. since then it went from periodically locking to now it will not stay locked at all. driver side rear door has done this only a couple of times. *tt

The door lock actuators on three of my doors began unlocking within a week of the first occurrence. when the alarm is set, the doors initially lock, then instantaneously unlock failing to keep the vehicle secure. while driving on streets, the door locks engage and disengage at every stop. *jb

The car was parked and my friend was able to get into the front passenger seat without setting off the alarm. i got into the car and noticed that even after locking the doors. the front passenger lock would slowly open and does not stay latched. this is a huge safety concern and by the amount of other complaints is not unique to myself. of course it happened the month after the warranty expired. *tr

Rear passenger door-lock does not stay locked. it gradually begins to unlock even though it's locked by remote or manually. this presents a safety issue as the door will automatically remain open even though it should be locked. it presents a safety issue as the vehicle remains open even during the night. *tr

The right rear passenger power door lock remains in the locked position at all times. any attempt to unlock the door, either manually or remotely, only lasts for a few seconds at most. then the door is relocked electrically and can't be opened from neither the inside nor outside. the door can only be opened by quickly pulling the door latch in between an unlock command and the automatic reset of the lock. since the time of the rear passenger door issue the front passenger door lock has begun having the same problem. *tr

I was locked into my car i could not unlock the car automatically or manually i was trapped and had to call a lock smith to come save me. after the fact i called honda and they told me they would make a report but they couldn't do anything for me. on top of this i wasn't alone i had my small grand children with me and they acted like they didn't care. i have always bought a honda but i am not wanting to give them another dime of my money. i replaced one lock but it is acting up again! door actuator. is the error it has and needs to have a recall for it. *tr

Rear door and rear hatch locks became inoperative when vehicle was stopped and parked, had children in car seats and was not able to open doors manually or electrically. because children were in car seats it was very difficult to get children out of car. also there was no way to open locked doors vehicle was not able to transport passengers until this condition was repaired. this could be a serious condition in an emergency or accident. *tr

Last week while in atlanta, ga my honda crv 2008 doors started locking with in seconds of me hitting the unlock button. making it very hard to get in the car. the car was on in park and door accidentally closed and locked automatically with noticing locking my dog in the car with no air. i do not have the spare key. thankfully after calling 911 the fire department was able to get the car unlocked my getting the window to roll down. the temperature outside was approx 86 degrees and who knows how hot in the car.fortunately, they came with in 30 min of this happening. the dog was scared after this incident and reluctant to be in the car. the car normally automatically locks once the car is in reverse. the car has continued to have this issue over the weekend.i am also unable to unlock the car manually with just the key. this issue concerns me very much as i travel with my dog around town and have only the one key. *tr

Drivers door lock kept locking and unlocking while driving it or in park. had to pay $160.00 to have the door lock actuator replaced in july 2013. now the rear doors are starting to making a strange sound when locking or unlocking the doors. this is the sound the came before the locks actually started to malfunction on the front door. why isn't honda being held responsible for all these actuator problems? *tr

The air compressor had to be replaced at a cost of over $700. theres was not even 100,000 miles on the car yet when this had to be done. *tr

Rear passenger door lock cannot be locked. keep unlocking by itself. major safety issue. i've done my research and seems like a very common issue on 2007-2009 crv. honda needs to fix this issue asap before anybody get hurts. *tr

On march 21, 2012, i took my2008 honda crv for service .my power door locks were malfunctioning.. they would constantly lock and un lock as i was driving. they would be clicking lock and unlock , dealer claimed i needed an actuator assembly at the cost of app. $250. i naturally had it repaired as it was a serious safety concern, since my small grandsons are in the back. on july 10, 2013 i returned with the identical door lock problem. since i had driven more than 12,000 miles since the last repair , this was repair was not covered under warranty. after expressing my dissatisfaction, the dealer supposedly called honda directly and honda agreed to pay half of repair costs. my cost -$87.00. since it was a major safetyconcern for me, i agreed. guess what? two days later the same problem with the door locks re occurred. they are constantly clicking open and closed.when i called the dealer they told me it's probably an underlying electrical problem. i am reluctant to spend anymore on this apparently unfixable issue, but it is a serious safety issue, especially when young children and infants are required by law to be in the backseat. judging by the number of complaints on this website i would like to see the nhtsa pressure honda motors to assume responsibility for this electrical malfunction. *tr

The passenger side door lock starting locking and unlocking erratically. it has steadily become worse and now will not lock unless you click the door locker over and over and sometimes will not lock at all. the dealership tells me that i have a problem every time i take the car in to have it serviced along with an amount of $230 to fix it. i have read hundreds of complaints on the internet about people having the same problem with this year model and many, many other year models. clearly this is a problem!! i hope that honda will step up and recall this before someone gets hurt although i did read about children being locked in the car after being buckled in and the parent went to get in the car and couldn't. i also found a class action suit that has been filed against them. it is time for honda to make a recall!! *tr

Upon stopping vehicle and placing it in park and turning off ignition. i unlock automatic door and within seconds it relocks itself, it will not let me manually unlock the door from the inside. i am afraid it will trap my family or me in a accident, potentially putting us at serious risk of injury especially if there is a fire. i think honda should replace this with a recall. *tr

My 2008 honda cr-v has started locking the doors by itself. i shut the front door before i opened the back door to get my 11 month old baby out of the car and the doors locked before i was able to open the back door. it was over 100 deg f, so i had to call the fire department to break a window to get my child out of the car. *tr

Right rear door would not stay unlocked in the beginning. since then, all doors except the driver's unlock seconds after they are commanded to lock, this is with or without the car running, drivers master switch, fob or auto lock, makes no difference they won't stay locked. no security here. i have driven hondas since the early 80's. first problem i have had like this. honda needs to step up and fix this before someone gets hurt. *tr

Front right door unlocks itself after locking the car. this is a safety issue since the door unlocks itself while the car is in driving mode. *tr

Door locking system failure. first rear driver's side door lock went out-will not unlock with alarm key, nor with the inner lock button system. must be manually unlocked and locked. this caused the rear hatch to not open. will only open once i have manually unlocked rear driver's side door. now, the passenger door does not stay locked--whether i lock it with the key, button, or manually. it slow opens back to the unlocked position right after i lock it. i am concerned that someone will enter my vehicle when i am not around. *tr

Cannot unlock the doors using the key manually. the door locks relock within 1 second after unlocking the door electronically. have to have hand on the door handle when unlocking the car otherwise it will relock before i can get the door open. *tr

Started experiencing door lock failure a few months ago. (~56,000 miles) i noticed driver side rear door lock is not staying locked, car locks continually try to lock themselves when accelerating from 5-10 mph. door locks keep attempting to lock, driving me crazy. not to mention a big safety issue. *tr

Door lock on front passenger side will not lock while vehicle is in motion. it tries to, but then goes to the unlock position. this is constant when in stop and go traffic. also, it will not lock when parked. *tr

Rear lock initially not working and actuator was replaced for approximately $250. approximately 1 month later all door locks repeatedly attempted to lock and unlock while driving as front door actuator malfunctioned. i was unable to lock front door electrically, with key or by manually pushing lock. all doors would not lock automatically while driving but repeatedly attempted to lock making loud noise while driving. front and second rear door actuators now need to be replaced at same cost. should i have to pay $750 to be able to safely ride in car with doors locked or lock car when unattended. i am sure the fourth lock will go soon at this rate. the car was not able to be locked manually and there was now way to stop the repeated loud noise while driving which would have allowed me not to pay the high cost of repair / *tr

The driver door has started locking on own. i stopped to get gas on a saturday evening and i got out to pay at the pump, only to find my car had locked itself. my purse and cell phone was inside. luckily the gas station had an attendant who was kind enough to let me use his phone. i was 60 miles from home. i could not find a locksmith to come open it up on a saturday evening. so, not only do i have to replace the actuator in the car, i have to replace the window on my back door because i had to ask a neighbor to break in my house to get the spare key, then drive 120 miles round trip to bring it to me. even with the spare key, it was a struggle to get the door to open because it would either not unlock or immediately re-lock. i believe this to be a serious safety issue-as after all this ordeal to get home, the car would then not unlock to let me out. *tr

Passenger side door will not lock with either the key fob or manually. when using the key fob it will lock and then immediately unlock. the same happens whenever the lock button is pressed on the driver/passenger door. when locking it manually on the passenger door, it will unlock immediately as well. *tr

Door locks automatically unlock when lock switch pressed. *tr

I stepped out of my car while it was running and the car locked itself. i had to walk home, get the spare key, and then walk back to my car. then, the car would not unlock with the spare key, manually or by pushing the unlock button. i also tried the valet key--it wouldn't work either. the drivers' door is the only door that has a key lock on it so i couldn't try the key in any of the other doors. this is a serious safety issue that needs to be corrected by honda. *tr

Was driving down the road and i heard my doors lock again. they usually only lock when i put the vehicle in drive and not again during that particular trip. it kept doing it after i would come to a stop and then accelerate. now it makes a screeching noise everytime i put it into drive. sometimes it locks, sometimes it doesn't. the dealer wants 330.00 per door to change out the actuator. i understand honda is involved in a class action lawsuit over this. i cannot figure out why they would not issue a voluntary recall over this. there are safety issues involved for their customers. honda usually has a great reputation for making a reliable and affordable vehicle. they should be concerned about their customers, not the bottom line. they will lose customers... *tr

Door locks open on their own while i am driving and i am unable to secure the vehicle when it is parked. driver side remains locked but the passenger side keeps opening and trying to lock again. *tr

The car doors are permanently locked. when i parked, the driver door locked and could not be unlocked- neither by remote nor manually. (usually the car automatically unlocks when in park). i climbed out the passenger door and clicked the lock button on the remote. about an hour later i tried to unlock the car from the outside and none of the doors unlocked. only the driver door has a keyhole and inserting the key did not unlock the car. i tried using my spare keys but nothing worked. i am locked out of the car. *tr

I am experiencing a power door locking problem with the back seat / passenger side door lock. the power locking system keeps trying to lock the door while driving and it produces a constant clicking sound. i am unable to secure my door. from my research, it appears that i have a bad actuator and this is a common problem for honda cr-v's. *tr

Crv electrical power locking system refuses to stay locked, unlocks doors randomly and now will not stay locked under any circumstance. *tr

Doors lock unexpectedly. doors automatically re-lock after depressing the unlock button. *tr

Electric door locks malfunction automatically locking or refusing to lock on passenger and read doors.. i am told there is an electrical problem with the locking system that needs to be replaced at a high cost. creating a safety issue with rear doors for our grandchildren as doors may lock or unlock as the car is driven. *tr

In april of this year (2013), the 2008 honda crv-ex that i purchase certified, pre-owned in october 2012, began having problems with the door locks. as i was driving, the locks would automatically unlock and lock themselves every time i came to a stop and started driving again. the problem stopped after a few days, then a few weeks later, started occurring again. before i called to have it checked, it stopped, but then i would hear a squealing sound immediately after the doors were locked upon acceleration. all of these issues stopped, but then about a week ago (july 2013), both doors on the passenger side started relocking themselves within 3 seconds of being unlocked by either the key fob or from the driver side door. they cannot be locked or unlocked manually, even with auto lock off. they also cannot be opened from the inside by the passenger. this is a serious safety issue for my child, who would not be able to open his door and exit immediately in the case of an emergency. in addition to this problem, the tire pressure monitoring system (tpms) light is on permanently on my dashboard. according to the dealer technician i spoke with, this means the tpms has stopped communicating with the sensors on at least one of my tires. this is a hazard in that i could have dangerously low tire pressure and would not know it, which could lead to a blow out at high freeway speeds. this same technician reported he has seen "quite a few" 2007 and 2008 crvs coming in with this issue. i can work around this issue by frequently checking tire pressure myself, but it remains that i should not have to do this, when i paid for a vehicle that should be doing it for me. *tr

Right rear door and hatch would not unlock either manually or through the power locking system. dealer determined that this was the result of faulty actuators and forced me to pay over $600 to have them replaced. this is a known error as there are other reported cases of this happening. it was also a safety issue as passengers could have been trapped in the car. *tr

Locks locking and unlocking while driving--a safety issue. my car broken into due to car's inability to lock. in addition, the car alarm does not function as the malfunctioning actuator on car is signaling that car is unlocked when it is not. honda fixed actuator on one door, only to have another door malfunction less than 2 months later. called american honda today and they are refusing to fix what is defective part since they state is no longer under their 3 year warranty period. car does not lock while driving. online reports of people not being able to get out of cars. in the event of a crash or fire, this is a real problem in addition to safety. there is a pending class action suit filed 1-18-13 in pennsylvania on this same issue fir consumers to be aware of. to have honda do nothing about this obvious safety issue is of serious concern!! *tr

Passenger side door lock failed due to defective part (door lock actuator) and door cannot be unlocked or opened from outside of the vehicle. *tr

My rear driver's side door lock would not lock. i took my cr-v into the dealer and they said my actuator needed to be replaced. i had just bought the car, used, 3 months previously. i've read online that several people have had the same problem! this needs to be recalled! recently (11/27/13) my doors are now starting to unlock and lock on their own as well! i read that this might be due to other actuatiors needing to be replaced! i've always had a honda but if this problem isn't resolved i will never again own a honda!!! recall now!!! *tr

Door locks stopped working locked all the doors *tr

The power locks on the doors keep unlocking themselves while driving . it has potentially unlocked while driving even though the lock has been placed. manually unlocking or locking doors is not an option as the lock seems to unlock by itself. very dangerous to use with children even if the safety lock is placed the doors continue to unlock by themselves. *tr

I could not get into the car one evening when the lights were accidently on. tried honda remote, tried actual key. called tow truck 1, 2 and 3 over course of 2 days. they could not unlock it. needed wheel lift tow-truck (not bed truck) so not to drag it (car is in park in my driveway in my garage). i don't want any chance to mess up my transmission. to get my car down the driveway, i had to get my car jack with wheels. i slowly raised the front car (front wheel drive and park) where gravity would pull the car down the driveway. dangerous but i had to do it. from my search on the internet, this is a common problem with cr-v's. its a locking actuator that has to be repaired and honda has admitted to having this problem. i just bought it certified 2.5 months ago from a honda dealership. i have all the paperwork but no warranty. this is a safety issue. i'm a mechanical engineer, working as a system safety engineer for a major aerospace company. tow truck company 1, 2 and 3 could not open the vehicle because they could not unlock it when they pressed on the unlock button or could not unlock with the lock-latch as they physically pulled it or when they pulled the physical handle to open it. its all electrical. no mechanical open even though there is a handle, not even the tail door has a mechanical open latch. you have to touch it to open, again electrical. what happens if someone gets trapped inside with electrial problems? is this a safety concern? yes. in my professional opinion it is. if automakers choose to design vehicles with electrical activations, they must be able to provide at least a mechanical option for safety reasons. in this case, i honestly believe they must recall this defective feature. people will have this same problem and it will get worse as automotive industry continually becomes more electric. please, protect the drivers and their families. thanks *tr

Doors lock and unlock without prompting. doors also make awful noise when they lock and unlock whenever they want. the key also does not work to unlock the door any longer. i had to always leave a window down because you could be locked out even with the keys in your hand. i had this fixed back in april 2013 at my own expense since it is not under recall and now it is happening again. major safety issue: you can be unable to get out of the car in case of an emergency. also, with the doors locking and unlocking it creates a major safety hazard for children riding in the car. *tr

After putting in gear and starting out, left rear door lock will lock then unlock itself and then stay unlocked. it also unlocks itself after parking and locking the car. unsafe for passengers and no security when parked. *tr
