We have classified the 186 complaints from 2008 Honda CR-V about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I got a driver side door lock recall done at honda in allentown pa..since then the passenger locks haven't worked right..i could hear them locking or unlocking while driving the car and now they don't lock right with the key (been doing that for months) yesterday i went to open the front passenger door (no kids locks there) and it was locked while all others opened with the key..standing on the driver's side i noticed the lock moving on its own to lock the car...my granddaughter was in the back and could not open her door..and honda told me the recall only covered the drivers' side..now after having the lock problem ..i've had a problem for the last month with the car starting..it won't turn over but if you wait and try again it will..the service station said battery was bit low..we put in a new one..it does not turn over at all now..they towed..put in new starter..seemed to fix it..after driving about 50 miles..i came home ..went to use the next day and it won't start or turn over again..and put in new relay..still nothing ..then i noticed the door locking itself ..keys out of car..not in use or bumped
Headlamps blow out with frightening regularity; they last no more than 3-6 months. this is not due to contamination on the glass, as the blowout does not occur there. it may be a high voltage problem, as the headlamp socket has partially melted on several occasions as a result of a blowout. both driver and passenger sides have been replaced with heavy duty/high temp sockets, and yet lamps continue to blow and have melted those. the blowouts have occurred both when the vehicle is stationary (starting) and while in motion. if both headlamps go out before you can replace the blown out one, then it becomes a potential cause of a night-time collision. if it was only an issue with headlights going out, that would be an expense worth managing for an otherwise solid car. but the melting of the socket and potential for additional shorts and arcing is troubling as it may lead to fire. many cr-v owners have complained about and reported this very issue. nhtsa needs to force honda to investigate and resolve this very, very common problem.

I own a 2008 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was stationary in my driveway and i attempted to lock all the doors. however, the left side rear door behind the driver's side did not lock. i think this will be a safety issue especially if i have young children as my passengers. also, knowing that my car was locked already but not, there will be a potential danger of bad guys coming inside either to take valuable items or damage my car. i am planning to bring my car to the dealership to fix this problem but wondering if the charges would be covered by any service bulletins to give extended warranty. please help to fix this problem as soon as possible. the approximate failure mileage was 88,408.
There was a loud banging sound and the air conditioner, which was on and working great, stopped blowing cold air. i researched the problem and found that this has been very common on honda cr-vs. from my experience and the four different failure modes that have been identified, it sounds like the ac compressor exploded or imploded and could have left shards of metal on the highway i was driving on. two other failure modes of this problem include the clutch axle shaft shearing and the clutch itself melting. here are the ridiculously high number of complaints that i've found within 15 minutes of researching: 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fldx1wvjqsc 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4ajblxnh2e 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asy6stixtq4&feature=youtu.be 4. http://www.ebay.com/gds/the-honda-crv-s-problematic-ac-compressor-black-death-/10000000018634628/g.html 5. http://repairpal.com/air-conditioning-is-blowing-warm-air-497 6. http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/5273/honda/cr-v/honda-cr-v-ac-compressor-problems/p71 7. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tu0okfjgv9v3f3fgl/p64, *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was stationary and attempting to unlock the doors, the doors immediately re-locked. the contact did not take the vehicle to an independent dealer or mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000....updated 11/13/15 *bf the consumer stated the dealer resolved the issue with the locks. updated 11/18/15. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact received a manufacturer recall for the door lock actuator and replaced the parts per the recall. a year later, the parts failed to function. the failure occurred with the rear passenger side door actuator and then the front passenger side door actuator failed later. the dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. the contact called the manufacturer twice, was placed on hold several times, and then the call disconnected. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was not available.
I was traveling at low speed in a parking lot when i noticed that the engine had suddenly turned itself off. at that moment i noticed that the metal part of the ignition key had separated from the plastic key fob, and the plastic part, with the rest of my keys attached, had dropped to the floor of the car. after investigation, i saw that the small screw that holds the plastic and metal parts together had pulled through the thin slip of plastic to which it was attached. the engine apparently turns off if the key fob is not in close proximity to the ignition. this mechanism presumably has anti-theft functions, while also preventing anyone but honda from selling replicate keys. in this case it had the wholly undesired effect of shutting off the engine of a car in motion. in order to re-start the car, the parts had to be precariously jammed back together, and i was forced to drive home with the fear that they would again re-separate and cause the engine to turn off. under normal circumstances, it is impossible to take the key out of the ignition when the car is in gear, but under this apparently unanticipated failure mode, if the key fob experiences a sudden structural failure, the engine does turn itself off. this situation represents a safety hazard because of the risk that the car will abruptly lose both engine power and power steering. i was in a parking lot when this happened, but if i had been traveling at highway speed, or in traffic, the situation could have been very dangerous. it seems reasonable for the key fob to be required to start the engine, but once the engine is running, loss of the signal from the fob should not result in the engine turning off. *tr
My honda 2008 cr-v's rear right door unlocks itself 1. after locking it thru the remote, 2. after locking it manually from the lock switch. 3. even after locking it thru the keys. it has a feature of automatically locking all doors from full stop to 9mph but this door will unlock itself in any way. i feel like my car is not secured and me and my passengers safety is being compromised. *tr
Electrical problem.
Driver's door will not lock by any method or configuration. cannot lock it manually from inside the car, or from the outside with the electronic key fob or physically with the key. when driving the car attempts to lock all the doors automatically after the car exceeds 15 kph - all the doors lock except for the driver's door which immediately moves back to the unlocked position. cannot lock the driver's door manually or by pressing the lock button in the arm rest either while parked or while driving. this is a significant safety issue, as well as a security issue - car alarm cannot be set since the driver's door won't lock. *tr
Electronic door lock solenoid has a mind of its own, locks me in the car and also out of the car, and i have the key fab. also makes a horrible noise. *tr
Rear passenger door lock does not operate correctly. it will stick in the locked or unlocked position. if it is unlocked, it will repeatedly try to unlock when driving about 10 mph. *tr
Door locks going out making buzzing noise when engaged in reverse .honda should repair free of charge, total cost to fix $850.00! ridiculous. *tr
The rear passenger door will not stay locked. it slowly unlocks and this poses a safety concern for children in the back as well as the fact that my vehicle cannot ever be locked. *tr
When trying to unlock the door with the remote keyless entry, all doors unlock except the back passenger door. from looking at the internet, there looks to be other honda crv owners with the same problem. *tr
I first noticed the problem on 8/21/14. after starting the car and putting it in drive, the door locks activated a few seconds after the car started moving, as they normally do. about a minute later i had to come to a stop. when the car started moving, the rear door locks cycled again. this would happen every time the car would start to move again from a stop. i reached my destination and exited the car, locking the doors with the honda remote. a second after the doors locked, i heard a faint click from the rear driver side door, as if someone had operated the lock button from the inside. i checked the door handle and the rear door opened. i checked the drivers door and it was still locked. i hit the door locks again with the key remote and checked to make sure it was physically locked. when i came out in the morning, i checked the door, and found it unlocked. i checked the drivers door and it was still locked. this started as a intermittent problem, but is now approaching almost a continuous event. i can't have passengers in the back seat because i can't be sure the doors will stay closed in case of an accident, and i fear that the car is now exposed to theft because it's easy to access regardless of the other doors, or the alarm. this is now affecting my safety and my security. please have honda fix this issue. *tr
First: all 4 door locks started to lock and unlock by it self soon after pressing the lock/open door button on car key. at one point when trying to open the car door by pressing lock/open, it would click open and lock just as quickly. it took a total of 5 minutes and was able to open car door while holding door handle and pulling as soon as it clicked. second: the car accelerates when pressing brake, in order to avoid hitting the car in front the brake must be pressed at a distance of three cars. both of these problems are very serious and a major safety concern. honda does not have recall for this problem. nhtsa please issue a recall, don't wait for a serious accident that would take the life of a person/persons. *tr
When driving the door locks keep locking and unlocking. now the passenger front and rear doors will not lock at all. this poses a problem when children are riding in the car and may try to open a door while the driver is driving, by allowing thieves to enter the car while it is parked (also not parked), and other hazards which make my family now afraid to ride in the car. i dread the cost of this repair for a problem that should not happen. *tr
The door lock for the back door of our vehicle keeps slowly unlocking after we attempt to lock the doors. this happens when we use the fob or when we attempt to lock the doors manually. this is a safety issue and i understand there is a class action suit (or suits) against honda for this. *tr
All doors are locking automatically immediately after they have been unlocked. on occasion, after locking, the doors will not unlock nor allow manual override of the front driver's side door to unlock it - the driver has had to crawl through the car to locate a door that could be unlocked manually in order to exit the vehicle. *tr
Rear passenger door (behind driver) unlocks when car is in motion. i had children in the car when door suddenly unlocked. problem is continuing. *tr
All door locks will lock themselves after being unlocked and unlock after being locked. it doesn't matter if it is unlocked by the remote, the door key or the interior locks. the locks will also cycle when either proceeding from a stop or when you begin braking. *tr
Door locks. when unlocking doors they lock right back. *js
Door locks come unlocked after locking. they will not stay locked. *tr
Left rear door completely unlocked, no matter during the driving or stop. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the front driver's side door locks failed. the manufacturer was contacted. a private mechanic stated that the actuators needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was unknown. the current mileage was 115,000.
My car first began automatically locking constantly every time i released the brake pedal and began to accelerate with the gas pedal. a few weeks later i noticed that the passenger side front and rear doors were no longer locking. i tried to lock them manually but they automatically unlock. my car is still continuing to automatically lock every time i switch from the brake to gas pedal only now it makes a very loud, startling buzz sound from the front passenger door with each lock. the issues seem to fluctuate between not locking at all, locking constantly, and buzzing loudly with each lock each time i drive the car. it also seems that the child locks are activating themselves as you cannot open either passenger door from the inside of the car. this is becoming a grave safety concern being that i cannot lock my doors properly. i became very frustrated to find that this seems to be quite a common problem with cr-v's made between 2007-2011 and honda has not recalled them. fixing this issue through the dealer is very costly and does not promise to correct the issue. honda campaigns to "start something special". i have yet to see what it is that they have started that is so "special" when it comes to repairing their own mistakes to benefit the safety and convenience of their loyal customers. *tr
Locks started locking within a second of being unlocked. so i could unlock the doors with the key button and pull quickly to open the door to get in. the locks would engage as soon as i got in. however, if i tried to manually unlock the door from inside, i would have to use two hands, and it was difficult. once the doors closed the locks would immediately engage. as it turns out i locked my purse and keys inside. my spare key would not open it. there was no manual override! this is my concern. in case of an accident or a child inside, there was no way to open, not even with a key. had the car towed to the dealer and it has been fixed, an actuator (?). *tr
Another door lock failure. key would not unlock door. passenger door lock sticking and locking by itself. got locked out of the car when the battery died and the key remote would not work with no power. i had 3 sets of keys in my hand but could not get in my car. had to replace the key cylinder, cable, and both front latch assemblies at a cost of over $700. how many complaints until honda accepts responsibility for defective lock assemblies? if honda is reading this, i will not do future business with a company that does not stand behind their product when there is an obvious defect. *tr
First problem - march 2014 - left rear door start to lock and unlock by itself as driving. replaced actuator. second problem - august 2014 - passenger door start doing the same thing lock and unlock by itself. i manually try to lock, unlocks by itself. the rear door does the same thing along with the front door. third problem - september 2014 - rear hatch will not unlock using the remote. had to get key in the door lock and turn couple of times until finally opened. this issues are a major safety concern for my family. nhtsa please issue a recall - don't wait until a major injury or possibly a death occurs. *tr
The front passenger and left rear passenger door locks malfunction by staying unlocked even after locking or locking when the unlock key is pressed. *tr
The digital dashboard has gone haywire i cannot read how much fuel i have how many miles i can go how many miles are on the car when my oil needs to be changed or the temperature of the engine. this happened when i was driving and at first it was periodic it would act up then it would return to the full screen for weeks months then it would act up again and the same thing kept happening time after time finally it has gone completely haywire and i do not know how my vehicle is running because i can't read any of the gauges other than the speedometer and the tachometer there were nights when i came home and i park the car and the dashboard was completely out i came out the next morning started it up the dashboard came up full like nothing was wrong as soon as i started driving it went haywire again. i have called and been in touch with american honda they said that it is not their responsibility to fix this issue i tried to explain to them that is it a safety issue it is not something that should be going bad in a vehicle in return they told me that it is no longer under warranty and i need to replace it myself the cost would be $752 including labor and i think this is unacceptable because i cannot or my wife cannot operate this vehicle safely and i believe it's honda's responsibility to have a recall to get this issue fixed
Doors automatically relock after unlocking with key fob. will no unlock manually. *tr
Front passenger door will not unlock. problem is related to the door actuator. car fob or internal door controls will not unlock front passenger door. concern is that a passenger in front passenger seat will not be able to quickly exit the car if required in an emergency without climbing across to another door. issue occurs at all speeds or when car is in the park position. *tr
At times passenger front door locks can not be unlocked. at other times lock will randomly lock and unlock during which door can not be unlocked. this creates unsafe conditions where door can not be locked at times or unlocked at times. i believe this to be a defect with the door lock actuator. *tr
Passenger front and rear doors will not stay locked. poses safety risk with having a child in the backseat. took to honda and door actuators had to be replaced in both locks. fortunately i had extended warranty but still cost me $100 copay. now seeing this is a huge trend with this vehicle. *tr
I was ready to leave work when i pressed the unlock button on my key remote i noticed the car didn't unlock. i tried several more times and still nothing. i decided to try and unlock the car manually with the key and realized that wasn't working either all could do at that point was call a locksmith who after several tries was able to open the driver door which in turn allowed the rest of the doors to unlock. i called the local honda dealership and was told they had never heard of the car not being able to open manually and offered no other solution to my problem. after looking online i noticed this is a very common problem for honda crv's 2007 and newer. there is an issue of the door actuators. this could potentially be a life threatening defect as the doors open or lock on their own. *tr
When unlocking doors from inside or with fob, passenger door re-locks within seconds. drivers door lock makes loud noise whenever locking or unlocking. seems to be a problem with a lot of similar cars. very annoying. could be dangerous if trying to enter or exit car in a emergency situation. *tr
Pre-mature door lock actuator failure. actuator fails causing the door locks to not unlock electronically as a result of failed electronic door lock actuators. *tr
I was leaving the grocery store and used my key fob to unlock the car doors. i tried to lift the rear door (hatch-back) to load groceries. the door would not open. i tested all my doors and found that my front passenger door would not unlock either using the key fob. i tried both doors multiple times without any luck. once inside the car (through the driver's door) i tried to manually unlock the front passenger door. i couldn't get it unlocked. the lock was stuck fast. i could not enter or exit out the passenger side door. (i did not climb over the seats to try and exit out the back hatch door.) this presents a safety hazard for obvious reasons. i tried daily over the next week to enter or exit out those 2 doors. i couldn't budge either one. i took it to the honda dealership. the technician was able to get the front passenger door and the rear door to open. i was told the actuator on the front door was going out. the rear door was a different problem. it will cost me $450 to fix the two parts. *tr
For a while, the door lock system locks and unlock continuously while driving. i have taken the car to the dealership but was told nothing is wrong. this morning, the car cannot be unlocked with the key or the remote. when i push the lock or unlock button, a grinding noise can be heard coming from the driver door. *tr
It started with the front passenger door lock. it makes a weird noise and will not lock or unlock correctly. sometimes locks and unlocks on it's own. now at least 3 of the 4 doors are doing the same thing. *tr
The front passenger side door locks itself immediately when trying to unlock. a passenger would be unable to exit the vehicle unless they exit the driver side or one of the rear doors. i notice this problem when the vehicle is stopped at 0 mph and in the park position. *tr
The passenger door locks as soon as it is unlocked. it will not stay unlocked at all. *tr
The first incident involved the back gate which would not unlock with the key fob. i tried locking/unlocking from the driver's interior door controls and also with the key fob. attempts were made with the car running, ignition turned to accessory, and also with the car turned off. nothing corrected the problem. this persisted into the next day when it started working without any particular intervention beyond my previous attempts. the problem reappeared a few days later, only now it is the front passenger door. i lock the car with the key fob, but the passenger door remains unlocked. the same is true when attempting to lock using the switch on the driver's door. like others who have posted on this site, this car also attempts to lock/unlock at unexpected times well above the usual speed where the automatic lock normally operates. this is a safety and security risk. my young passengers are at risk if the locks disengage. my property is not secure if the locks are not reliable. my personal safety is at risk if my alarm system fails to secure all doors. it is unsettling to consider the consequence of being unexpectedly trapped inside the car. it is equally troublesome to drive the car not knowing if my children and i may become locked out in the dark, in a parking deck, or in a remote location during travel. repairing each lock as it fails is a risky gamble, but i cannot afford to replace actuators (approx $250 x 5 doors) on every door as a preemptive repair, either. *tr
Passenger side door lock will not stay unlocked. either manually unlocked or automatic such as when the transmission is put in park position. this causes a potential safety problem for any passenger sitting in the passenger location. they cannot conveniently exit the vehicle at any time. *tr
Driver's side front door electric lock always makes a very loud grinding sound when unlocking, whether with the unlock button on the door, or with unlock button on the key. does not always unlock on first attempt. *tr
The door locks on the driver side won't open and i had problems getting out of the car. then when the car was all locked, i couldn't open the car, even with the actual key inside. it took leaving the car and letting it rest to finally get inside the car with the key. while driving the locks kept opening and locking inside the car. not very safe. *tr
