We have classified the 113 complaints from 2005 Honda CR-V about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
I purchased my 2005 honda crv used from an owner in may 2011. in the 2+ years i have owned it i have changed the regular headlight bulbs 3-4 times. i have never had to change the headlights so often in any other car i have owned. and, to top it off, just recently i've noticed the reverse lights are out now too! i urge honda to extend their headlight recall to the 2005 crvs as well, as it seems that this recalled electrical issue continues to later versions. i like this car, but i don't want it to nickel and dime me to frustration! the design of the car doesn't make it easy to change out those bulbs either (did it with gloves on and different types of bulbs)! every time i see a 2005 honda crv owner on the road i feel like waving them down just to see if they are having the same problems with their headlights as i am! *tr
Low beam headlight on driver side intermittent. bang on headlight and it goes on. now it doesn't work at all. have changed bulb but this has not helped. *tr
Headlights keep burning out. i have replaced them four times in the past two months. the dashboard lights are burning out too. i had to replace the glove box light, the temperatue control, air conditioning, recirculate, odometer lights. now the rpm light is starting to go. it is getting very expensive to be replacing all these lights. the headlights are $8.99 each and i paid $230 to replace the dash lights. after replaceing the dash lights, when i use the remote to unclock my car, all the dash lights blink three times (they never did that before). i also noticed that when i turn on my turn signal i hear a high pitch noise. i am worried that my headlights will go out when the store is closed and i can't get it fixed. i may get a ticket or get into an accident. i drive to and from work in the dark. also what if both headlights go out at the same time, that could be dangerous. i worry that my spedometer may go i and i won't know how fast i am going. i have told the dealer that i think there is an electrical problem, but they insist there is not. i do not agree with them. *tr
Both low beam headlights stopped working at the same time. i was parked when this happened. the fuses are fine. this is the same failure for which honda has issued a recall, but limited it to 2002-2004 cr-vs. there are numerous accounts of this failure on repair forums for 2005 year cr-vs, and a number of complaints already in the nhstb database as well. the recall needs to be expanded to cover the year 2005. *tr
While my 16-year old daughter was driving after dark around 9:30pm, both low beam headlights failed at the same time. *tr
Have replaced low-beam headlights at least 8 times in two years. both driver and passenger side. have used sylvania, osram and wagner h1 bulbs. bulbs last one to 6 months. not a water problem. no sign of water in housings. other bulbs also have shorter life than expected. also had to replace dome light, running lights and tail lights during the same period. obviously an electrical problem. definitely a safety issue. annoying and expensive. headlights are easy to change but tail lights and running lights are not easy to change. you can find numerous complaints about this problem on the internet but there are no honda recalls to address this issue. i have had other honda, toyota, ford and gm vehicles where the headlights last indefinitely. eight blown bulbs in two years is a design defect. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was parked the contact noticed the low beam headlights were not illuminating. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the technician stated the failure was within the headlight switch and referred the contact to the dealer. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v136000 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch) that may be related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
The low-beam headlights on my 2005 honda cr-v burn out after an unusually short time. over my three years of owning this car, the low beam bulbs burn out annually. now, the driver side low-beam bulb has lasted only two months. all bulbs i have used as replacements have been oem brand names: either sylvania or philips. headlights are critical for nighttime safety. the headlight failure problem on 2005 honda cr-v vehicles is a safety problem. *tr
Why has the 2005 not been recalled for exterior lighting. the bulbs frequently needed replaced and then the went out for good. we can use the fog lights and the high beams but not the low beam head lights. we've changed fuses and bulbs with not result. please add this to the recall. *tr
The headlights no longer work. we can use the fog lights and the brights but not the headlights. we've had the bulbs and the fuses changed without any result. other years for this same model have been recalled for this issue, but not the 2005 as of yet. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the low beam headlights malfunctioned while driving 35 mph. the contact replaced the headlights five times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the contact notified the manufacturer and the manufacturer stated that the wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. the contact did not replace the wiring harness. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. the contact stated that while turning the vehicle on the front left headlight burned out. the headlight malfunctioned four times and the contact had to change the light bulb consistently. the failure was diagnosed and the dealer could not determine what caused the light bulbs to burn out. the headlight was repaired by replacing a new bulb whenever the failure occurred. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 89,000.
My low beamheadlights stop working every 3 months, i have replaced the bulbs each time but they still only last 3 months. there are numerous other complaints similar to mine for the 2005 crv but neither your agency or honda has done anything about it. apparently crv models from 2002-2004 have the same problem and have a recall for it . why not 2005 crvs. *tr
My low beam bulbs keep blowing out. usually one then the other a few weeks later. just last week both blew out at the same time after i heard a sudden pop when i turned them on. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. the contact stated that only the high beams could be activated on the headlights. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised her that the combination switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the combination switch. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 119,300.
I have had to replace the low beam headlights on my 2005 cr-v several times in the past year alone (at least 4 times that i can remember). the lights go out randomly while driving (the exact speed is unknown). this obviously presents a very great safety hazard, and i am very concerned as my wife and newborn baby sometimes use this car. the last time we had the bulbs replaced, there appeared to be scorch marks on the wire connector that attaches to the back of the headlight assembly. there are many forum posts on the internet of drivers who have similar issues to mine with the same model year (2005) and also with 2006 cr-vs. here is "one" of the forum threads containing such posts: http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tlnd3jkaui93fs68g/p8 if you could please investigate this issue it would be greatly appreciated. *tr
My headlights on low beam went out completely. i was stopped by a policeman and informed to please get this taken care of. i informed the officer this just happened today which is friday dec 16 2011 @ approx 11:45 pm. *tr
The low beam headlights on my 2005 cr-v have been replaced 6 times over the past 7 months. sometimes the passenger side, sometimes the drivers side, and one time both headlights went out at night. there has been a recall of this exact problem with 2002-2004 cr-v due to a faulty wiring harness, but not with any later models yet. i have informed honda of this problem and they have no resolution at this time. *js
The low-beam headlamps keep burning out prematurely. oem halogen headlamps lasted about 4-5 years before having to replace. now i am lucky to go 6 months without having to replace a headlamp, particularly on the passenger side. am using sylvania silverstar h1st replacements. no other electrical problems and see this same issue with other cr-v owners online with various bulb brands. please investigate. *tr
Both low beam front headlights had been working the previous night and during the day of the 17th (pa has a lot of work zones and requires headlights to be on). driving east on i-76 from pittsburgh to breezewood, beginning a little after 6:00 p.m. and not yet dark, front headlights were on and working. unclear when the lights went out, since there were lit parts of the road, and a lot of traffic, but by 7:45 it was clear the lights (both low beam lights) were out. the high beams worked, which i used intermittently, until i could get off the turnpike at midway service area. called for assistance around 8:40. vehicle was towed; mechanic 'fixed' by replacing the both front low beam light bulbs. both light bulbs had been replaced the previous year, separately, about a month apart. *kb
In august 2011, right headlight burned out and two weeks later, left headlight burned out. mid december, left burned out again and by end of december 2011, left burned out yet again within about two weeks of changing it. it appears other cr-v owners are experiencing frequent burnouts as well. i haven't personally tested to see if it's only low beam vs high beam but if it happens again, will do so. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 55 mph with the headlights activated, the passenger side headlight suddenly failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic several times for the malfunction. the driver's side headlight bulb was replaced three times. in addition, the passenger's side headlight bulb was replaced two times. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
For the last four years, i have had to replace headlight bulbs due to unexplained failure. i have needed to replace bulbs anywhere from one to six months. i would like my vehicle to be recalled for electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash exterior lighting:headlights exterior lighting:headlights:high/low beam dimmer switch exterior lighting:headlights:switch
The headlights of my 2005 crv have had to be replaced 3 times on each side during the last year. i see that there is a recall for that defect but it does not cover the 2005 models. when will honda announce the recall on this for the 2005 model? i am concerned that both headlights will fail at the same time and i will be driving at night. then it will be a huge safety issue. *tr
My front left head lamp bulb has gone out two times in approx 1 year, the 2nd replacment of the front left headlamp bulb was done approx 3 weeks ago, within the last week the right side headlamp has gone out. i don't drive off road in any way, this vehicle is stricktly used for highway communiting.replacement was done all times by a bonafide mechanic.this appears to be a defect of some type. *tr
Why has **2005** cr-v not been recalled for headlight / safety malfunction? driving in the dark, rain, or heavy (mn) snow all extremely unsafe. have had 2005 passenger (right) side low-beam headlight replaced ~10 times in 18 months, driver side ~4 times. passenger-side low-beam last replaced two weeks ago and is already out. mechanic(s) find no cause. ***yes, i have seen that nhtsa dir ea11012 states, "analysis of complaint and honda data show that a complete low beam headlight circuit failure occurs in models with 2-bulb headlight systems (i.e., a single bulb on each side for high and low beam). models with 2-bulb systems include my 2002-2004 cr-v...models with 4-bulb headlight systems (i.e., two bulbs on each side, one for high and one for low beam) have different electrical circuits for the headlights and do not experience the same failure mechanism as the 2-bulb system...honda introduced the 4-bulb headlight system in cr-v in my 2005. ***whatever the mechanics of the problem--2-bulb or 4-bulb system--a simple search gives ample evidence that there is, in fact, a serious headlight and safety problem with the **2005** cr-v (emphasis added). it's a problem that's affecting a critical mass of drivers. *tr
Front driver side headlight keeps burning out. i have to keep changing it every few months. now, it appears that the headlight has electrical issues. low beam is very dim and the high beam does not work. i also experienced other type of electrical issues. very often, the fuel cap warning light comes on. i check every time and the cap is screwed on tightly. after a few time turning my car off and on the light goes out. also, after i drive my car, it always smells like burned plastic. my research on indicates that many other owners of the same year make and model had not only similar but same issues with their headlights. can something be done about this? i will have to have my headlight fixed and will cost me a lot $$$$. *tr
My honda cr-v has had the headlights go out approximately 8 times in the last 18 months. they usually go out one at a time, but this past weekend, they both went out simultaneously. honda says this is a recall for 2002 to 2004 cr-v for a wiring issue on the low beam headlights, but 2005 is not included. i believe there is defective wiring in my headlight system and should be covered by a recall. *tr
We bought our 2005 cr-v se in sum 10 and love the vehicle. since then however, we've had to change headlight bulbs approximately 10 to 12 times. sometimes a single bulb, sometimes both... they simply go out every couple of months. we even had to ride home one night with "high beams" because the both low beams simply failed. the next day we purchased new bulbs, installed them on the cr-v, and now the low-beams work, but the high beams do not. it's kind of getting old buying new bulbs every few months! my problem/concern is the fact that we have a known recall for a extremely similar issue on 2002 thru 2004 cr-v models. that recalls summary states: "due to tension from the combination switch wiring harness, wear on the surface of the electrical terminal can occur, yielding copper oxide, which increases electrical resistance. increased electrical resistance may cause the terminal ends to melt within the wiring harness connector." the consequence listed on this recall is: "if the terminal ends melt within the wiring harness connector, the low beam headlights may become inoperative, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash." based on our experience, it seems the recall listed above should be expanded to include the 2005 cr-v models as well. we've looked at current recalls for our vehicle under the honda owners site and there are none listed for our vin... ? honda may want to re-visit this recalls coverage before any other 2005 cr-v owner's headlights go out in the middle of the night while driving... this is a major safety concern! *tr
Low beam headlight lamps need to be replaced sevral times per year. *tr
I had the drivers side low beam headlamp go out. there is a wire clip that holds the light bulb in. replaced the light bulb. ever since then i have to replace the bulb about every 3 months. i tried to get a new wire clip in case the bulb was moving a little and causing the burning out. was told by the honda dealership that the clip doesn't exist anymore. no replacement part. i have read many blogs on line about people complaining about the bulbs burning out with very little resolution. called honda about problem and i have to send them something in writing so that they can check into it and get back to me. with so many people blogging about this problem. i would surely think that a recall should have been done. *tr
Since 2010 low beam headlights fail, one side or the other, every 2 or 3 months. have replaced both sides several times. i just heard about a recall and discovered 2005 not included - it needs to be. *tr
Please extend nhtsa existing investigation into headlamps on the 2002-2004 models into model year 2005 and forward. we have replaced the low beam headlamp bulbs multiple times in the past year and a half. the most recent bulb replacement burned out within 2 months. we have received a ticket for a headlamp out. our mechanic replaced not only the drivers' side bulb but the assembly that the bulb fits into - lasted less than 8 weeks. the next step is the harness and that is extremely expensive and may not fix the problem. see owner forum website: http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/honda-cr-v/tlnd3jkaui93fs68g/p4 thank you *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. the contact stated the low beam headlights failed to illuminate. the low beam bulb was replaced five times. the failure was not corrected. the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in their headlight recall. the vin information was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin could not be verified. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
2005 crv has headlight low beam burn out problem as i've seen on the internet. the headlights burns out every couple of months. both sometimes both burn out at the same time. this seems very dangerous. so far there has not been an accident that i know of. since 2006 have replace 6 bulbs. *tr
Keep replacing headlights for the last three years every 3 to 6 months! it is amazing how many people are having the same issues and honda does not admit there is an electrical issue with 2005 honda c-rv. now the passenger headlight will not work at all.taking it to the dealership to see what they say and if i don't like there answer i will go elsewhere! possible lawsuit! *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the low beam headlight bulb would blow prematurely and continuously. the low beam headlight bulb was replaced several times but the failure continuously recurred. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.
Have to replace headlights approx every 3 months. have replaced driver's side 6 times, passenger side 4 time. both went out at same time while driving at night on 10/14/11. *tr
2005 cr-v: the low beams burn out constantly at an accelerated rate. the two bulbs burn out virtually back-to-back within 10 days of each other. i have been forced to drive with only my brights. i have had several occurrences of this in 150,000 miles of driving...once on vacation, no less. i have spoken to two other owners of same model with same complaint. for the record, i owned a 2002 cr-v where i rarely replaced any bulbs in 200,000 miles! this is unacceptable and creates a potentially dangerous situation. obviously, something is wrong with the design - perhaps the designed voltage is greater than the bulbs can accept resulting in frequent bulb failure far above (what i believe) a statistical analysis would deem within an acceptable margin. please investigate! *tr the consumer no longer owns the vehicle put continuously receives recall notices. the manufacturer was notified. *js
On numerous occasions head light (s) fails. internet research suggest that this is a common problem on all 2005 honda crv's. the terminals corrode, arc and lose contact. *tr
I own a 2006 honda crv. i've replaced the headlights at least 6 times since i've purchased the car. in november 2009, i replaced the headlights and guess what-- today the driver side headlight is out! unbelievable. service dept. tells me i must be getting faulty bulbs, but i noticed on the old bulb that the metal looks like its been hot. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the driver side headlight and both side beam lights failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage is 150,000. updated 11/29/11 *cn the consumer stated the vehicle was fixed by the dealer at a cost of $98. updated 12/07/11
Led lights on dashboard stopped working. i can no longer see my speedometer at night, or the mileage gauge. i raised this to attention of honda dealership/repair and they offered to repair at my expense--approximately $100. this shouldn't have happened. also, as others have reported, one of my headlights has repeatedly burned out since purchase--i've replaced it twice. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda crv. the contact stated that the low beam driver's side headlight failed. the contact replaced the light bulb but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000. *tr
I purchased my 2005 honda crv new and really like the car. since about 2008, the headlights have to constantly be replaced! at first, it was every few months but now, it's every 6-8 weeks! i have asked the dealer about recalls and although there are recalls for some 2005 vehicles, my car is not part of the recall. in order to submit a complaint with honda, i have to have them diagnose the problem, which will cost a few hundred dollars. the labor cost to access the headlights is extensive, according to my dealer. i am frustrated that other cars with this problem are able to be repaired as part of a recall but mine isn't. at what point will honda think that maybe my car should be included in the recall? *tr
Low beam headlights have been blowing on a regular basis since oct. 2008. they last anywhere from a few weeks to a couple years each. both sides are affected by this. have had a local mechanic replace each time. i didn't realize this was a widespread problem with honda until researching it today. recalls are in place starting with the '06 model. i have seen several comments from other '05 owners with the same problem and the costly solution offered to them. the '05 cr-vs need to be added to this recall. *tr
2005 honda crv-se: i replaced driver side low beam headlamp in 2008. in 40 years of driving, i've never had to replace a headlamp in any car i've owned. (i buy a new car every 10 years, and i've owned cadillac, volkswagen, mazda, and pontiac prior to honda.) my honda also has a burned out dash light and i've replaced the dome light. *tr
I brought my honda crv in sept. 2005. it worked fine. but since 2008 summer, i often be pulled off by police because the left front light is off. i first thought it was simple, just go to local gas station to change a light bulb. after i changed the left front light 3 times, in feb 2011 i was pulled off by police again, i realized there is something wrong. i went to honda, they said it was something computer related wrong. just for fix this i paid more than $200. and 1 week after, my friend told me my right side front light was off. i had to change it again. wondering does every crv owner has change his or her front light bulbs as often as me. this is very dangerous! as a driver sometimes you can not know your front light bulb is off right away. *tr
I have replaced both the high beam and low beam bulbs a total of 17 times. this is a common problem with the honda cr-v's with no resolution. honda uses a unique connection at the bulb which i believe may be the culprit. *tr
Since my wife purchased her 2005 honda cr-v, her headlamps (mostly the driver's side) continues to go out. it happens every 3-4 weeks. it's been doing this for over a year. honda says it's not their problem. *tr
