The airbag srs warning light comes on intermittently when i am driving it and i cannot pinpoint when/why. this happened a year ago and the dealership said it was the cable reel in the steering wheel which was replaced. 10 months later (and less than 1000 miles driven) and the airbag srs warning light is continuing to come on intermittently (driving city streets and highway - sometimes it comes on after 15 minutes of driving, sometimes it doesn't come on for for multiple times of driving). i brought it to the dealership and they said they could not duplicate the error and that it could be airbag assembly or clock spring. there are numerous complaints online about intermittent airbag light and honda should be addressing this if it's a manufacturing issue. i do not feel safe driving nor comfortable paying $1200 to replace driver airbag assembly when it's not even clear if there's an issue. honda should be researching this issue and addressing it, particularly with the number of similar complaints. it is unsafe.
Once a month roughly while i'm driving my airbag light comes on the dash and reads "check airbag" i know this is wrong because nothing is wrong. if i pull over and shut my car off wait 30 secs then turn it back on the error message will turn off.

The "check airbag system" warning light keeps turning on and off intermittently. i can find many online complaints about 2013 civic owners having dealers replace system components only to have the problem reappear in a couple of months. i had our civic serviced at a honda dealer in spokane wa a couple of months ago, and had requested they diagnose the problem. i'm in az and my daughter took the car in to the dealer to replace headlight bulbs and inspect the airbag system. however, they did not do the inspection!!! their explanation was that online appointment notes don't appear at their shop... sheesh. so it never was looked at and haven't had a chance to take it back in. no idea if the airbags actually work right now, isn't that great? i feel the 2013 civics need to be included in the takata recall, but the vin does not reflect it being included at this time. not happy with such an early failure in the airbag system.
Check airbag system warning started coming up while driving for no apparent reason
Check air bag light comes on randomly. sometimes when go over speed bump, sometimes just driving on smooth road, or making a turn. no real pattern discovered yet. started sometime ago but came on maybe once every 3-4 months. now however it is occurring much more frequently almost daily. it has been rather hot and humid since occurrences started being more frequent not sure if that is coincidence or part of reason for the increase. once car is turned off the light is gone till the next random occurrence. it has not turned on without the vehicle moving at this point.
Car was involved in a roll over accident which included driver front side impact. car went of the road into a ditch, went over the other side of the ditch flipping back on its 4 wheels. impact on wheels was enough to knock wheels partial off the car with blown back window and cracked windshield. neither the driver or passenger airbags were deployed. side curtain airbags were deployed. vehicle sustain total damage. driver sustained life threatening injuries
Airbag warning light comes on and off at random times while driving. this seems to be a widespread complaint with 2013 honda civics and while there is no recall yet, there should be in my opinion. thanks for your consideration, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *pm
The airbag check airbag system warning comes on periodically i had it repaired at a honda dealer and three weeks later it came back on but went away. i am concerned because it cost me a lot of money to repair this the honda dealer said it had nothing to do with airbags or recalls. but honestly this has everything in the world to do with the srs system and should be something covered by the manufacturer.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2013 honda civic. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v661000 (air bags). the dealer (south tacoma honda, 7802 s tacoma way, tacoma, wa 98409, 253-472-2300) was contacted and confirmed that parts were not available. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.
Check airbag system light comes on and off sporadically for no reason.
Takata recall possibility? my airbag sensor has been on for months. there has been no recall, yet i've read tons of the same complaint on the same vehicle. it says "check airbag system" immediately after starting the car. i don't know how there's not been a recall yet when the airbag thing is a serious issue and there are a lot of these complaints out there. please advise.
I am unsure if this is part of the takata recall, however using my vehicle's horn for the first time today, while in motion, since purchasing less than 30 days ago, my "check airbag system" sensor light came on along with the display message. i parked and turned the car off for about 10 mins. warning message was gone but as i proceeded to drive, the light and message returned. unfortunately, i bought the car at a third party dealer not honda and they are not assuming any responsibility or at least try to help fix my issue. this is such a safety hazard, especially in such automobile.
Also wasn't able to select the steering, the speed control brakes and the wheels/tires. the car has completely shut off while driving going 60 on the highway. since i've got this car it's been a huge pain and has been in the shop nearly the entire time i've had it. i'm currently making monthly payments on it and have had the car since 2017 and have put over $9,000 worth of work into it.. it finally has stopped working again i've been without a car for over a year because i can't continue to dump money into it. the abs light and check engine have been on since i've got it and the tire pressure light has always been on since i've got it the airbag light blinks while driving randomly and the electrical has went out while driving as well all the lights and radio would completely go out while driving during the day this happened thank god because had it happened at night i wouldn't of been able to see the road. the car has had the battery replaced many times and the tires constantly loose threading and feels like the car steering is shaking while driving. the child safety restraint lights blink as well randomly as well with the airbag lights. my sterling wheel has completely locked up while driving unable to move it at all. this car has cost me loads of money and put me in such a bad place financially i wish i never got it.
Air bag system check came on while driving 35mph and it turned off once car was parked and turned off. has not come on since. passenger airbag off light does not light up when there is no one in passenger seat. honda dealer ran test. passenger was fine but something is wrong with driver side (ironically). i asked if recall was on for my car, it is not. apparently i am not the only one with this safety issue and i don't want to pay $111 for just a system diagnostics test then another $300+ to get a replacement on a safety issue that i didn't cause. please help!! i do have records of the service on 6/4/2018
Have started getting intermittent 'check airbag system' message on dash display even when there is no one and nothing in the front passenger seat. happens more often on warm days.
Tl* the contact owned a 2013 honda civic. the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph a vehicle suddenly merged into his lane, which caused the contact to merge into another lane and the contact crashed into the rear of a gmc sierra. the air bags did not deploy. the contact did not sustain any injuries. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to aaa location where it was deemed a total loss and destroyed. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 39,000.
Check airbag system warning started coming up while driving
Got notice from auto airbag settlement for air bag defense defective issue . i further verified my honda civic 2013 and found eligible for settlement .
Takata recall. i have been the original owner of my 2013 civic coupe, and have loved it since. however, within the past month, check airbag system light has come on, first time during the middle of me driving going straight forward and stayed on until i turned the car off. it continued to come on while driving, and eventually started coming on when i first started the car, stationary. it does not come on every single time, but comes on very very frequently. this is a huge safety concern and they need to recall the problem. i called to see how much honda would charge to fix it, and they said $140 just to diagnose, and multiple reports of the parts costing up to $1300 to repair. this is ridiculous for someone to have to pay this amount for a car and a company that is supposed to be one of the most reliable and trusted brands on the market. the reason i chose a honda civic was because of the low rate of problems, and this is the hugest problem that can occur, a life threatening problem, very disappointed. there have been multiple reports of people getting in crashes and the airbag not going off, huge safety concern, and life threatening, even if the light does not come on. this should be a major red flag to anyone who owns a 2013 honda civic if the light has come on or not!! atleast 4 people have died from 2011 hyundai sonata and 2013 kia forte takata airbag problems reported earlier this week. this should be taken seriously immediately by honda and nhtsa and looked into asap. please share this information if you have a similar problem, know someone with a honda civic, or has occurred to someone you know. by writing complaints on here, and contacting honda, we can help raise awareness to the nhtsa and honda to issue a recall, so no more people have to stress, worry, or be in a life threatening situation from the airbag system!!!!
Takata recall. my airbag inflator has gone out. i had seen a sensor go off about it and i had gotten a notice from you about a recall. i took it to the shop and they gave me a quote of $1022.55. the vehicle was in motion when the sensor went off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda civic. while driving 65 mph, the passenger air bag deployed independently without warning or impact. mistlin honda in modesto, california was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. the contact was advised to call his insurance company. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.
'takata recall' hi so recently i got in accident it was my fault in accident i hit car from behind iwas at 50mph speed while other car was stopped at red light ihit his car super hard my front of car was all bad have to put everything new and im surprised ihit car that hard and airbags didn't come outside. and second issue while my car is off it still keeps electronic function on inside system which keep draining my battery ovwr and over
When the car is turned on, a sign of "check airbag" shows up.
Airbag system failure - a "check airbag system" warning alert appeared on the dashboard of my 2013 honda civic. i checked for recalls and finally took my car into my honda dealer. the service advisor informed me that a "driver side door airbag sensor failed" and told me it can be fixed for $310.00 plus labor!!!
Takata recall
Takata recall. the check airbag light is on. when i entered my vin number, it says my vehicle is not part of the recall. however, my check airbag light is on which makes me think there is a defect.

Takata recall i received a card in snail mail that there was a class action settlement on the takata airbags. this card advised me to go to the website to find out if my honda civic was part of this settlement. and whether i should go to the honda dealer to check if i needed my airbags repaired. when i went to this website it didn't tell me anything. it didn't tell me if my car was involved in the settlement or if i needed to have my airbags repaired. this website didn't even ask for my vin number. i would appreciate someone informing me if i need to take my 2013 honda civic to my dealer and have this repaired?
My entire dashboard lit up, i️ can't drive the car, because the emergency brake is locked a feel a small tug on the car.

Faulty takata airbags
Flashing air bag light with no known issue(s).
I was driving straight down a city street in boca raton, fl at about 40 mph when i heard a bang and looked to see that the side curtain and seat airbags of the passenger side of my car had deployed. my 15 year old son was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of impact. i was able to pull over into a turn lane to check my son for injuries and assess what had happened. the was no known cause for the deployment.
Takata recall check air bag system comes on intermittently
'takata recall' i received a letter by mail saying there is a class action settlement for the takata airbags. the 'check airbag system' warning light comes on randomly in my 2013 honda civic while stationary and in motion. took to dealer and they can't figure out what is wrong or give me a straight answer. i went to the website provided, entered my vin number but it said my car was not effected. there have been many more complaints for the 2013 civic model for faulty airbags!! something is not right, this is a major safety issue and honda needs to take care of it!!
While car is in motion check air bag sensor will go off. sensor will stay on until ignition is turned off and car is in park. the sensor will periodically turn on and off over the last 8months. when contacting honda dealer about the check airbag sensor they stated it not related to the recall. i disagree if my sensor are reading check airbags something must be going on.
Tacata recall i purchased the 1st and probably only new car that i will ever own. i went with honda because i thought that they would be very reliable. imagine my dismay when i.get notice re:auto air bag malfunction. i am now scared to transport my grandson. i am scared for my own safety. please consider the fact that i am now stuck with my defective auto, for the rest of my life. no comfort in taking my family anywhere.
I have a 2013 honda civic. i bought is a certified pre-owned from broadway honda, greenville, sc. it went well for a year thought the one year warranty with zero problems. but once the warranty was over problems started to show up every other month. during the harsh winter of march one day the battery went dead at a walmart parking. i called my friend and jump started it and it was fine. next day i went to the honda service and did a diagnostic. they said the battery is only 30%. in 4 years with 53k miles the battery went bad and i replaced it. and did a oil change and nys inspection. 15 days went well. suddenly one day my air bag indicator started to blink with a message "check air bag system" on the screen. i took it to a friend's garage and he suspected it was a passenger side seat sensor that has an error. very troubled i went to honda service again. they charged $130 just for scanning and diagnostics. they came back said the passenger seat airbag sensor went bad. i asked them how can something like a sensor go bad. believe me i only use my car to go to office and errands. my wife sits at the back with my baby(infant). very rarely the seat is used. i asked them how much would it cost and they said it will cost another $880 dollars to replace the sensor. i also want honda to know the problem as one can't pay so much to replace one sensor.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda civic. the contact stated that a warning indicator randomly kept flashing to check the air bag system. the vehicle was taken to the dealer at least three times, but they were unable to provide a solution. the contact felt as if they misdiagnosed providing a solution and required that brake repairs be completed before servicing the air bag system. the first repair from the dealer indicated that the abs indicator was illuminated, but the contact stated that it was the air bag warning indicator. the dealer cleaned the rear brakes and adjusted the rear brakes during the first repair. during the second repair, the dealer replaced and resurfaced the front brake pads. the brake fluid exchange was serviced as well. two days after the repairs, the service air bags indicator illuminated again. the dealer was notified of the failure a third time and indicated that they would follow up, but the contact received no response. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was not available.
Purchased honda certified used civic in 9/2016, check airbag system light started coming on randomly around 2/2017 while vehicle was stationary and driving. light would come on multiple times a day, or sometimes only once every few weeks. have taken the car to two different honda dealers (including the one it was purchased from) multiple times and dealer is unable to solve issue. charging system sensor and cable reel have both been replaced, but light continues to randomly come on. dealer is denying any responsibility and continues to use their 'computer flow chart' to try and diagnose with no success. this is a major safety issue and honda needs to issue recall and take responsibility. multiple reports have been filed!
Check airbag system warning light coming on and off intermittently, whether the vehicle is moving or not. dealership tech unable to positively identify exact problem or component unless alarm stays on all the time. they could only provide best educated guess. they suspect cable reel is bad. apparently, when the light is on, air bags apparently will not work. unacceptable. have previously owned 3 other civic 's, never had a single problem with the air bag system. honda should have a better way to troubleshoot the system to definitively identify the specific defective component in the system. warning light came on constantly yesterday after approx. a month, but residence is 400 miles from place of employment so it will be a couple days to get vehicle in to dealership to effect repairs. if the government is requiring these systems for safety, then as far as i am concerned they should never fail. period. any defect or problem with the system should be immediately corrected by the manufacturer at zero expense to the vehicle owner. i definitely do not feel as safe in the vehicle at the moment, and hope i don't get involved in an accident with this system not working. just wanted to inform in case others may have experienced this same issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda civic. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor cable failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 14,500.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda civic. while driving 60 mph, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the air bag indicator illuminated. the contact sustained neck and back injuries that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The 'check airbag' light comes on all the time when i seat or while driving. when i bought the car the paint was bubbly and had rust spots.
Check air bag system light came on randomly. stayed on for majority of time. dealership ran diagnostics and found code b0001-13 replace cable reel. notes in repair showed "increased tension in reel" reel was replaced car was returned without working horn or controls on steering wheel working. latter may be technician fault.
I purchased the vehicle in september 2015. about a month after i purchased the vehicle the service air bag warning light came on. the light would generally go off after i turned it off and turned back on. i brought the problem to honda's attention and they said that it was throwing the code due to low voltage???? fast forward to 12 months later and the light goes on and off about 10+ times per day. seems to me that if the airbag system is malfunctioning that there should certainly be a recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda civic. while driving approximately 35 mph, the driver side air bag light illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the dealer performed an oil change. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring was incorrectly replaced by the previous owner. the technician replaced the clock spring, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was scheduled for another check up. the contact was not sure whether the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the contact also noticed some rusting on the sun roof, but did not notify the dealer. the failure mileage was unknown.
