I am having a serious issue with water leaking in through my side curtain driver side air bag when it rains. i spoke to two different dealerships and they want to take apart my whole car and both also said completely different things. it apparently is not covered under my warrant because it is a water leak but that is unfair. it is most likely destroying my air bag and that is a safety concern. honda corporate told me they have never heard of such an issue and that their hands are tied. *tr

4/10/14 picked up my car from a body shop referred by victory honda drove a couple of blocks turned left 3 to 4 seconds after the turn my drivers side airbag and the airbag in the side of my seat deployed at the same time without collision at the same time. causing a continual ringing in my ear. took car back to body shop they took my car back to victory honda and told them i hit a curb. victory honda, honda of america, and the insurance company for the body shop are all sticking to that story. i did not hit anything and now i am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle as the seat belts and the remaining airbags are all disconnected. thank you for your time. my email address is [xxx]. my phone number is[xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Had a major accident in 2014 on interstate 85 going through charlotte, nc. got struck at high speed from behind and front end struck the median. the front of the car was destroyed. my airbag did not inflate causing my ribs to be broken.

I was advised by honda north in clovis, ca, to replace the opds sensor and the opds control unit which should have removed the air bag warning light. it did not! i spent $697.87 for this repair at visalia honda only to be told they could not reset the air bags. i was then told the srs control unit needed to be replaced in order to reset the air bags. the quoted cost to replace the srs control unit was $450.00. also, i was told by visalia honda's service manager, [xxx], that they had no way of determining why the warning light was coming so repairs were being made in some kind of pecking order. the srs control unit was replaced with american honda providing the part while i paid $221.54 for the labor. the warning light came on again in august 2014 at which time i was told by visalia honda that the cable reel had intermittent failure and needed to be replaced at a cost of $413.00. the cable reel has not been replaced. i have noticed many others having the same safety issues with their 2007 civic but yet american honda refuses to recall the vehicles. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 35 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 176,000.

Honda civic lx 2 door coupe. my wife and i were driving on quiet residential street looking at homes. going slow - estimate10-12 mph - we had just been at a complete stop looking at a house. foot was on brake - going down slight hill. approached two metal sewer covers in middle of road - one in front of the other. middle of car went over first cover and i pressed brake harder because road was more uneven then appeared and car sits alittle low to ground. was about to go over second cover and passenger side airbags deployed with a load explosion. when i opened my eyes, i saw smoke and thought car was on fire. wife was holding right arm, said it was broken (it wasn't). it took a while to realize what happened. i inspected bottom of car and engine compartment. i saw no damage and started the car - not sure if i shut it off or happened automatically. driver seat belt was locked in position. passenger seat belt worked. car ran and operated normally. airbags caused a lot of interior damage. i took pictures of road and sewer covers from different angles. while the car was between the two sewer covers, i felt a vibration come up the steering wheel. wife felt and heard nothing. i suspect bottom of car hit edge of second cover because it's slightly elevated. although there were no marks on asphalt pavement or metal cover. my questions are: * why did airbags deploy? why did they deploy at this speed? why only the passenger airbags? why did seat belts lock on driver side and not passenger side? i've called honda dealership twice. no replies. insurance inspected. car is in honda shop for repairs. i asked shop to provide any information on the computer at time of deployment. *tr

Car hit curb when cutting a turn too tight and air bag deployed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated that the air bag sensor light illuminated and stayed on for several days before turning back off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the contact indicated that the air bag sensor light later came back on and would not turn off. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 91.000.

Took car to my mechanic for srs light on .he put it on his computer and code 32-10 comes up for "open or increased resistance in right side air bag inflater". he said to take it to a honda dealer for repair. honda service man tells me wiring harness needs to be replaced a $1,200.00 repair!! honda has had many other people having the same problem. honda even has a service bulletin out for this problem. service bulletin 10-001 dated february12,2010 and revised on august13,2010. it says floor wire harness has a poor crimp in it. this is a safety issue! honda needs to have a recall on this!! *tr

Srs light comes on intermittently and usually when driving over uneven terrain. i took it to the dealer and they reset the light for error code 33-10 (related to airbag inflator). i was told that i would need to replace the driver side curtain air bag if the light comes on again. this is a safety issue because when the light is on, the air bag system is disabled. in the event i get into an accident, i will not be protected. my car has never been to an accident and my airbags have never deployed and i bought the car new. i believe honda uses a faulty airbag system and creates a serious safety issue. in fact, i think honda has a service bulletin on this and a new part number to replace the old one. *tr

The srs light on my honda was on for the past month. this is a known issue that is affecting lots of honda civics of 2006 and 2007 that honda refuses to acknowledge. the wiring harness has to be replaced and the passenger side weight sensor, which is close to a $2000 repair. when i asked honda corporate (customer service [xxx] at 800-999-1009) i was arrogantly told they do not care because the car is outside of warranty. it is disgraceful that honda markets safety in their vehicles, but does not stand behind their srs system failing prematurely. this is not a wear and team item and no one sits in my car besides me. there should be a safety recall on this since airbags will not deploy whether or not we wear seat belts. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Air bag was inoperative due to crimp in wire harness on passenger side. there was a honda bulletin on this problem that effected similar models. i paid $1300 to replace defective air bag wire harness due to poor workmanship. it was a safety issue that had to be corrected. i contacted honda for reimbursement, which honda refused, even though it was a known safety issue problem. *tr

The airbag light would come on if we hit a small pothole. it would stay on sometimes until the key was cycled and sometimes for more than a day. after this happening more and more often we finally took it to the dealer. it turns out that the driver side curtain air bag had a open circuit in the inflator part. honda only covered have the repairs but the should have covered all of it. this is mandatory safety equipment, it should be covered under a lifetime warranty like the seat belts. *tr

Srs light on. dealer said floor wire harness is crimped and air bags will not deploy in a crash. serious safety issue. *tr

Air bag warning light on dash goes off and on at a variable basis. taken to dealer. dealer could not figure our problem. impact is one does not know if air bag is functional or not!

Took car to my mechanic for srs light on. he put it on his computer and code 32-10 comes up for "open or increased resistance in right side airbag inflater". he said to take it to honda dealer for repair. honda service man tells me wiring harness needs to be replaced a $1,200.00 repair!! honda has had many other people having the same problem. honda even has a service bulletin out for this problem. says floor wire harness has a poor crimp in it. this is a safety issue. honda needs to have a recall on this!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph over a bump, the front passenger's seat and side curtain air bags both deployed in inadvertently even though there was no impact to the vehicle. there was no personal injury. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000. *tr

Dashboard airbag light was on. took it to be serviced and code 32-10 indicated the srs control module wiring on the passenger side was faulty and the wire harness had to be replaced. mechanic called honda, who stated they knew about the faulty wiring problem but that it was not covered under warranty. upon researching the internet, the problem is very frequent and widespread. the wire harness cost over $1000 to be replaced and a whole day of labor. *tr

My airbag light has been coming for the past few weeks, so i took it to a dealership to have it checked out. they hooked it up to the computer and they said my wiring harness was bad because of heat underneath my car. i asked if honda has recalled my vehicle because of this issue and they said not at this time, but they have seen this issue quite often in my model vehicle. the cost of the repair is $600.00. why should i pay for a safety feature that's never been used before? they admitted that the harness is bad because of heat, so that tells me they have problems with this model vehicle. *tr

Code 32-10 per s/b # 10-001: safety restraint system warning light caused by a faulty harness. this is a manufacturing defect that could prevent air bags from deploying in an accident. harness was improperly crimped during assembly. this defect could result in serious injury or death. *tr

Both the passenger curtain and seat airbags deployed at highway speeds for no discernible reason. this airbag failure was not the result of an accident, hitting a pot hole or road imperfection or any other external impact. the civic was well maintained and in excellent condition with 33k miles. the civic was never in a prior accident. it is troubling that the car was serviced at the honda dealership on 4/12/2011 for an airbag malfunction light. honda customer service (tel # 800-999-1009) has not taken responsibility for the malfunction and claimed the car was out of warranty. this was a deplorable response by honda to an incident that could have resulted in injury to many people given that it occurred at highway speeds on a heavvily traveled parkway. if this was not an anomaly for this model and year (honda has had a rash of recent airbag recalls), then others should be warned of the potential lethal nature of this malfunction. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated while making a turn, the vehicle drove over a pothole and the air bag light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the vehicle could not be repaired under the warranty due to the impact. the manufacturer was contacted, but they refused to cover the repairs. the failure mileage was 35,000. updated 07/21/11 *bf the dealer replaced the srs control unit. updated 08/19/11*jb

Air bag failure. *tr

My 2007 honda civic slid into the concrete wall on interstate 20 in arlington texas 45 mph crash and car is totaled but no air bags were deployed. i have pictures. i believe the airbag failed in this crash. *tr

I have a 2007 honda civic ex with 43k miles on it. recently my srs light came on. i went to the dealership i purchased the new car from and they diagnosed it and said i needed to replace my passenger side airbag. i find this absurd since the car is 3 years old and to top it off, i missed the warranty by 6k miles. i had the repair done because i failed my safety inspection and the cost was $595, not including the $89 fee to diagnose it. i've done some research on this problem and have noticed a slew of customer complaints with very similar problems. *tr

I am currently stationed in the us air force here in germany. while traveling during a heavy rain storm here in germany, our 2007 honda civic hydroplaned and slid off the road. it rolled sideways at least twice and impacted a mile marker sign on the driver side mirror and landed upright after hitting its roof twice. the rear windshield and the drivers side window shattered, the front bumper was ripped off and the rear bumper was crushed in. the driverside window was shattered when my head impacted it during the roll over. none of the airbags (driver, passenger, or side curtain) deployed. we received injuries to our arms, legs, and heads/faces. my wife did receive 4 stitches on the left side of her face just behind her eye. also she received a laceration on her left ear which required surgery. she also received a minor cut on her right pointer finger which required surgical glue to seal it. On 2/2009 i was rear ended in my 2007 honda civic si during a low speed accident (5mph) the repairs completed were a new rear bumper cover and paint by a honda dealer body shop. about 11 months later the airbag light would flick on and off on the dash. during warranty repair work to 3rd gear issues (1/2010) that i've now had multiple times, i asked that honda look into the airbag light. they replaced what they said was a bad sensor in the rear bumper. 5 months later, on 6/22/2010 during the 3rd gear issue being fixed again, the airbag light was randomly coming on again. once more, i asked that honda look into this. they informed me that it was a faulty sensor again and they would have to replace it, if that didn't work, they would need to replace a flooring harness. all airbag sensor work done has been paid for by the insurance company involved in the accident on 2/2009. on 7/30/2010 while driving home from work, the side impact and side curtain airbags deployed on the driver's side, causing damage to the inside of the vehicle and minor injuries to myself (jaw pain, sore ribs, and ear ache) luckily, i was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over in a safe location. after talking to multiple people, i was advised to report this incident to the nhtsa. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic gx . the contact stated he was struck from the rear and was forced to crash into a vehicle ahead of him. the impact cracked the contact's radiator.the passenger's and driver's side air bags did not deploy. the vehicle was towed to a repair facility and at had not yet been inspected. the failure and current mileages were 48,000.

Started noticing a rough ride and excessive road noise so took my vehicle to a local honda dealer for alignment and was told the noise was due to tire wear. over the past year two repair places that have replaced my oil have told me the tire wear was due to worn out struts. this spring the dealer finally told me it was a common problem caused by the upper control arms and it would cost close to $400 to replace them. my airbag sensor light had been on most of the time for the last couple of years and the honda dealer told me during this visit that this is also a common problem and if i didn't get it fixed my airbags would not deploy in case of an accident. this problem would require replacement of a wire harness for nearly $1300. i contacted american honda to see if there were recalls for these problems and they agreed to replace the control arms for $75 and the wiring harness for $375 but i only had 60 days to complete the repairs for this price. i got the arms replaced but didn't have the money to get new tires or replace the harness. i have noticed a significant loss of traction and the noise and vibration are so bad now that i can hardly drive the car. these both appear to be engineering issues that affect safety of the honda civic and recalls should be issued to prevent accidents. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic si. while driving 55 mph the air bag light came on. he inspected the vehicle and safely drove to his residence. the vehicle was taken to an authorized honda dealer who was diagnosing the failure when the complaint was filed. the contact called the manufacturer and was advised that the air bag was not covered by the warranty. the contact was unable to provide a vin. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000 and the current mileage was 67,500.

I have had the honda civic (2007) and the airbag light came on this car is 3yrs old and has less than 60,000 miles on it when taken to the dealer this the censor for the passenger seat and is a cost of $500 but after viewing online i see other complaints of the same problem and even recalls on previous years i feel that this is something that needs to be addressed before it causes injury. *tr

Air bag light came on. the dealer said it was the sensor and would cost 690 to fix. seems to me hondas have had trouble with airbags for the last several years. my car isn't even 3 years old. i strongly suggest that airbags be considered as real safety equipment on a vehicle since it's not optional. if seat belts are covered for the life of the car, then why not airbags? i don't believe this is a repair an owner should have to pay for. it is for safety after all. *tr

'takata recall'

Recall.

The dealer replaced my passenger seat. after that my srs warning light went off. it's been cycling on and off for years now. i was too frustrated at how i was treated at the dealership to go back at the time. now i went in because i need to pass inspection and they tell me my whole srs system has had an internal error. *tr

I was in a car accident on july 11, 2008 and rear ended the back of someone's care while i was going 35 miles an hour. my brakes locked up and my airbags did not deploy. i was treated at the emergency room for a chest contusion and a sprained neck. my car is in the shop awaiting a diagnostic test to see why my brakes and airbags did not work and it is also getting a repair. *tr

On wednesday, june 11, 2008 i was driving from mar vista, ca to san leandro, ca with my 4 year old son and 20 year old sister in law. we were on the 580 w driving in the far left lane at 65mph at 11:30 am when we heard an explosion in the rear of the car. when we inspected the car, the right rear tire was blown through. the side walls were intact, but the whole top part of the tire was not connected to the side wall. my car is a 2007 honda civic coupe ex and it had about 8300 miles. i purchased the car in july 2007. the crash caused significant damage to the front left side of my car. the car is now at a body shop and is being repaired in san leandro, ca. we have the defective tire. after doing more research i found that honda had issued a service bulletin about uneven or rapid tire wear. tsb 08-001 on february 8, 2008. i did not receive notification of this serious defect because honda is not required to notify consumers regarding tsbs. this defect is serious and affects nearly all 2006-2007 honda civics. this tsb needs to become a recall. all owners of 2006-2007 honda civics need to be made aware of this life threatening defect. i understand that tires should be checked regularly, and many consumers do, however, my tires did not give me any warning of uneven wearing. actually, it would be hard to notice since my 2007 civic coupe ex is not quite on the road and you can feel any little bump in the road. i was told that this was normal because of the stiff suspension. overall, i seriously hope that this is addressed quickly. many unsuspecting drivers, many of whom have driven honda's in the past are not expecting this type of problem which can cause tire blowouts and possible fatal accidents. it would be unfortunate that a class action suit or the death of innocent consumers prompt honda to make this tsb 08-001 notice a recall notice. *tr

On wednesday, june 11, 2008 i was driving from mar vista, ca to san leandro, ca with my 4 year old son and 20 year old sister in law. we were on the 580 w driving in the far left lane at 65mph at 11:30 am when we heard an explosion in the rear of the car. the car began veering toward the right. i tried to pull over into the emergency lane, but the car keep veering toward the right and we hit the center divide. the car was perpendicular to the divide. the air bags did not deploy. we were probably traveling at 45mph when we hit the center divide. i am very concerned that the airbags did not deploy. my car is a 2007 honda civic coupe ex and it had about 8300 miles. i purchased the car in july 2007. the crash caused significant damage to the front left side of my car. the car is now at a body shop and is being repaired in san leandro, ca. *tr

At 25 miles per hour, the driver crossed over to oncoming traffic and hit almost head on. the impact was slightly greater on the driver side of the front of the vehicle. the drivers front airbag, the driver seat side airbag and the side curtain for both sides of the vehicle deployed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the vehicle was intermittently experiencing an increased stopping distance. while driving approximately 15 mph pressure was applied to the brakes and the vehicle did not stop until repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the rotors were worn. the authorized dealer replaced all four brakes; yet intermittently the vehicle continued to experience an increased stopping distance. she also stated that the vehicle surged forward from a stop resulting in a single car crash in which the air bags did not deploy. a police report was not filed. the driver was injured. the vehicle was not examined to determine the cause of failure. the failure mileage was 3,000. the current mileage was 24,000. the vin was unavailable.

Had a car accident 11/07 since that accident & repair the airbag light comes off and on,at all times of the day,no matter what i m doing in the car the light tends to pop on & off. i have taken it into the dealer that did the repairs but it is still a constant problem that hasn't been resolved. i have contact the better business bureau. but nothing was done about it other than a phone call. *tr

I collided with an suv. both cars were proceeding from a full stop and probably weren't doing more than 15 mph. although the passenger side air bag deployed, it was so slow that if there had been a passenger the bag would have been completely useless. although the other driver's insurance paid for the repair, the cost of my repair alone came to some 4 thousand dollars, i'm told mostly due to the cost of the air bag. what's the point of a useless air-bag that costs the earth to repair and deploys so slowly as to do nothing to prevent injury in the event of an accident? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 60 mph and attempting to apply the brakes, the contact felt the brakes lock. the steering wheel was forced out of his hands. the contact struck a curb and drove into the living room of someone's residence. the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belts failed. the contact called the honda manufacturer and they dispatched an adjuster and an engineer, who both stated that nothing could be done. the failure and current mileages were 19,500.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving 55 mph, another vehicle struck the contact's vehicle on the driver side. the vehicle rolled over three times and the air bags failed to deploy. the contact was injured. florida highway patrol filed report number fhpf07off049270. the current and failure mileages were 5,000.

I am the only owner of my 2005 honda civic lx. at 62,000 the air bag light came on and wouldn't turn off. took it to the honda dealership in battle creek, michigan. they determined it was the srs control unit that controls the air bags. i asked if it was covered under warranty and they said no. i said the safety features of this vehicle have a lifetime warranty. they told me it only covered the seatbelt buckles. i told them i thought this was a safety issue. they said no, and it would be $800 for the part alone, no labor, payable up front. i took it to my mechanic, who sent it in to be rebuilt. the unit was so far gone, that it couldn't even be rebuilt. i was without my airbags for approximately 3 months while all of this was going on. the place of business that rebuilt the control unit stated they have had many honda civic srs control units sent in. i think this a huge safety issue, and a recall should be done. *jb

2006 through current honda civic si have a problem with the inability to adjust the rear camber of the tires. normally what happens between 2,000 and up miles the owners are experiencing wear to the inside of the rear tires that goes undetected until a blow out of the tire occurs. the fault lies in the rear control arm that does not allow for camber adjustments of the tires. honda sells these vehicles new with the suspension as is. the owners have attempted to get honda and the dealers who sold the cars to make good on a repair that cost upwards of over $800.00. they wont. having been an army accident investigator my concern lies in the failure of the control arm that does not allow for camber adjustments to the rear tires. currently the rear tire or tires are allowed to rub against the rear suspension system causing a blow out of the rear tire (s) causing a loss of control of the vehicle and a subsequent crash. the potential problem could be remedied by the recall of si version civics for installation of an adjustable rear control arm. it is my understanding original civics have been recalled by honda to correct or examine this problem. the number of accidents incidents or fatalities i do not believe has been investigated or reported. buyers of these vehicles, insurance agents as well as accident investigators should be made aware of this potentially dangerous problem. it might just save a life or two. i believe that a data base for all civics involved in automobile accidents should kept to identify this problems severity. *tr
