Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the driver's side sun visor material was severly cracking and separating. the sun visor failed to remain in a secured position and obstructed the driver's visibility. the failure occurred whether the vehicle was in motion or stationary. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they recommended that the sun visor be replaced. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 57,000. updated 10/5/09 *cn updated 10/07/09

I bought a 2006 honda civic and within a year my driver side visor stopped working. it wouldn't stay up and every now and then it would just drop down. this almost caused me to wreck because i was driving one day and the visor snapped down which scared me and i couldn't see, which is how i almost wreck. it finally came off and because i didn't have a warranty i could get it fixed without paying over $100 per visor. my passenger visor had the same problem as well and now i drive without visor. this is a huge safety hazard and i wish honda would do something about it. i will never want to purchase another honda just because of this visor problem. i have a friend who also has the same problem and even though they got there visor fixed after spending all that money it broke again. please can this get recalled!! *tr

Driver's side visor unexpectedly fell down, blocking the view of the road. it will no longer go back up and it cannot be repaired, only replaced. i have several friends with the same malfunction. *tr

Sun visors on 2006 honda civic breaks making it impossible to put the visor in the up position....metal bracket breaks the plastic around it when the visor is warmed by sun...when you put the visor back up it can fall down making it impossible to see. this defect has occurred on all three of the 2006 honda civics my family owns. the only way to repair the problem is to remove and replace the visor> honda usa has no availability on the replacement visors as this problem appears to wide spread. *tr

The sun visors on my daughters 2006 honda civic have completely fell apart. i have been reading on line that this is a frequent occurrence. thankfully my daughter was not moving her vehicle at the time they fell or she could have been involved in an accident. with the increasing frequency of this- i think honda should issue a recall for this and repair them for free. but, i have been told "the car is no longer under warranty and the repair will be over $100. but, i have read online that people are having to replace them over and over again and i can't afford that! something needs to be done. *tr

2006 honda civic driver's side visor broken. at first the visor began to separate, and in the beginning i was able to squeeze the visor back together and then the visor just hung in my line of vision while driving. now it will not go together and the visor hangs limp blocking my view somewhat. i know of two other 2006 civic owners who have had the same problem. this is a safety hazard and should be recalled. *tr

My 2006 civic lx coupe has had problems with the windshield visors. i place a windshield shade daily when i park my car at work and use the visor to hold the shade in place. i've been having problems with the visor not being able to stay up because the plastic part that surrounds the rod splits open and the visor will not stay in the up position. a co-worker has a 2007 civic and has had the same problem. the dealer replaced his visors and they told him that there was a bulletin on this issue. my civic has 39000 miles and so i've passed the 36000 mile warranty limit. the dealer said that my warranty period is over since i was over 36000 miles. i have read that there have been a few complaints about this visor problem and i feel that this can cause a visibility problem. i understand that the warranty is over, but the visor has nothing to do with mileage. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. while driving 45 mph, the contact swerved to avoid two deer and crashed into a mailbox. she attempted to regain control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. a police report was filed. the passenger side of the windshield shattered as designed into tiny pieces. the driver's side splintered into shards, resulting in severe eye damage to the driver. he was transported to a local hospital and several pieces of glass were removed from his eyes. a few days later, he was taken to an eye doctor to have several more pieces of glass removed from his eyes. the contact called the manufacturer to report the failure and they stated that they could not assist, and provided her with the number to the nhtsa hotline. the failure and current mileages were 34,000.

Sun visor on driver's side would not stay up. plastic of visor cracked and spring clip would not hold up the visor and it drooped into driver's line of vision. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the passenger side visor would not stay up in the vehicle. the seam in the top of the visor became unraveled. in addition, the plastic that faces the outside would also pop open, allowing the visor to stay in the downward position. when she unhooked the visor, it would continue to sway back and forth. the same failure occurred on the driver's side. the contact has to duck down to see the road while driving. the failure mileage was less than 30,000 and current mileage was 35,000.

I have a 2006 honda civic coupe. at 12,000 miles both sun visors split apart within two weeks of each other. i contacted the honda dealership i purchased it from and they scheduled me for replacements at no charge. by 16,000 miles, both sun visors broke again and the honda dealership replaced them! luckily, winter came and they lasted until the next summer. at round 29,000 miles they broke again and were replaced once again, under warranty. at 36,500 miles (500 miles after the warranty ran out and longer than the 6 months part warranty) they broke again! now the honda dealership will not replace them without charging me between $200 and $320, depending on which dealership i called. talk about a rip off and a piece of crap! i thought honda made quality??? i called the number listed in the back of the car owner's manual to complain and the attendant agreed that there had been numerous complaints but that there is no recall and i would have to pay! whatever! why would i pay that much for something that is going to break again because of a faulty (crappy) design and/or manufacturing? c'mon honda...get with the program. the visors hang down, impairing my visibility which could easily lead to a wreck! that was 2 years ago. i just took them down and now have no sun visors. why has this problem not been addressed? shame on honda. with all the problems with toyota looks like honda would get on the ball and do something already! *tr

2006 honda civic. the sun visor keeps cracking, this seems to be a major problem with the civic and is also a safety hazard as it hangs down in the vision area of the driver. *tr

Drivers side and passenger side sunvisors both "exploded" on 06' honda civic after warranty expired. have found this to be a very common problem with civics. very valid safety complaint as you cannot see with the visor hanging in your sightline as well as it has no effect on the sun!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. while approaching the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear driver side window was shattered. he initially filed a police report because he assumed that the vehicle had been vandalized. his insurance company sent someone to repair the glass. the contact was later notified of nhtsa campaign id number 06v326000 (visibility:glass, side/rear); however, his vin was not included in the recall. the failure and current mileages were 43,000.

2006 honda civic sun visor broken 3x in drivers and pass sides 2 year hardly even used them. *tr

The driver's side sun visor fell off onto my lap while driving. this defect occurred just after the warranty expired. when needed i manually install the visor onto the post and lock it in. it swings back and forth under acceleration and braking. when not need i remove it for better visibility. i am planning on having it repaired but from what i have been reading, this has happened to many others and honda is not addressing the issue. *tr

The sun visors in my civic have a honda-acknowledged defect where after some time the mechanism breaks, causing it to stay down, blocking the driver view and creating an unsafe condition. the dealer told me this is common in warmer climates and i have had to replace them at least twice, with another repair on the horizon (the problem starts with a popping noise when putting back towards the roof). the dealer has replaced them for free the first few times, but the next one will apparently cost $20 for the labor while the visors themselves are "free." the dealer states they will only continue to repair this design flaw until 75,000 miles are reached on the car. *tr

The sunvisor on my 2006 honda civic flopped down in my face unexpectedly blocking my view while i was driving. this sunvisor has already been replaced once before for the same problem. the service department said that this was a known problem but honda still has not fix the problem. i guess it will take people having several accidents and possibility being killed or seriously injured before honda will issue a recall on this known problem. *tr

My 2006 honda civic ex's sun visor broke... on both visors. the components inside the visor seemed like it got melted and the visor keeps falling down (wouldn't hold up). it got to a point where it would just drop and hinder my vision while driving. very dangerous. honda replaced it since i was still under warranty back then. same problem with a friend's 2006 honda civic and she had her's replaced 3 times. this is too much frustration. honda should recall these sun visor and replaced with better quality. right now (2009), i'm afraid to use my civic's sun visor coz i can see/feel the sun visor beginning to break down again (the plastic visor is begging to open up at the side everytime i move it up/down). and i'm outside my warranty already. this is a known problem on honda civic and there is no news of what honda is doing about it. these sun visors should be recalled and replaced!!!!! *tr

Both sun visors (driver side and passenger side) split open after approximately 45,000 miles. the plastic casing holding the visor together split at the seem on both visors. as a result, they are completely inoperable. they cannot fold up. they fall and partially obstruct the view through the windshield. honda has refused to take corrective action. even the replacement visors are of the same construction, and therefore offer little remedy since they too will inevitably split open. *tr

The sun visor is split and will not stay in the up position and hangs down and can not be adjusted. it blocks vision for safe driving and has to be moved to the side which blocks peripheral vision. it also can't be used to block the sun coming in the window at certain angels. it has been broken for awhile but it is not easy to get in to the dealer with my work schedule. i am within the 3 year warranty but over the 36k miles because i drive quite a distance each day. my concern is paying to replace the sun visor and the many reports i have read that people have had to replace many times since the design/materials are flawed. this is an unsafe feature of the car and i hope that honda would recall them. *tr

I bought my 2006 honda civic ex coupe brand new in november 2005, problems started to occur shortly afterwards for instance the airbag light had a malfunction and recalled the dealer didn't fix it the first time, very inconvenient, brake pedal was fixed before i bought the vehicle, there was a recall on that as well because could fall off and cause a crash. i have taken it in to honda service to get problems fixed and numerous times, been told that its normal or some other ?!@#$% they always gave me the run around, the service people are rude, mean and incompetent and ignorant. i have taken my 06 civic in a total of 8-10 times now to fix problems they never fix anything! interior trim is poor/poor altering from the factory, panels loose and popping out interior scratches too easily/fragile cheaply made ?!@#$% (still), front drivers seat wont retract all the way back anymore like it used to (new) weather stripping is lifting up by front windshield (still) various rattles from interior (still), undercoating/under body spray from factory is peeling completely off (new) door panel flexes and rpms rise when using windows/now seems to roll up/down slower than before (still/new) keep in mind im only at 11,000 miles too! honda and toyotas quality is going downhill very fast especially with the civic, crv, rdx, mdx, camry, tundra, highlander, landcruiser, yaris, and rav4. the last year before the redesign of these vehicles the quality was great, now it seems like honda and toyota are either teaming up together or competing to see who can make the cheapest and ?!@#$% vehicle with cheaply made materials and taking shortcuts, changed a suppliers or something, these problems are unacceptable for a new vehicle. *tr

2006 honda civic sun visors broken (again). this is the fourth time my 2006 honda civic sun visors have broken. the first two times it was replaced under warranty within the first three years of owning the car. the third time the car was 500 miles out of warranty but they said they would replace it that one last time. now it is broken again! if you google "honda civic sun visor" you will find thousands of people with this problem. the sun visor splits in half and can no longer be put up (stored position). when the plastic frame of the visor splits, the visor hangs straight down blocking your vision when driving. because of this, my vision is constantly blocked and i find myself bending down while driving to see if traffic lights are green or red. it can also block my view of a pedestrian stepping off of the curb into the crosswalk. this is a major safety hazard and honda doesn't want to replace these after the warranty is up although they have a tsb on it. in addition to my view of the road being blocked by this plastic framed sun visor, i'm also afraid if i was in an accident, my face or a passengers could hit the sun visor and the visor could cause major facial trauma.

According to the federal motor vehicle safety standards, standard 208 section 4.5.1(c), sun visors must have air bag warning labels. honda currently provides these warnings on the sun visors. however, if the sun visor breaks, then i would be forced to remove the sun visor in order to operate the vehicle safely. once outside the warranty period, the vehicle would no longer be operated in compliance with federal regulations. honda is currently being sued in cooper, et al. v. american honda motor co., inc., case no. bc 448670 because of the sun visor breaking on a regular basis. by settling the case, they are essentially admitting the sun visor is prone to breaking. i do not believe a car owner should pay to replace a requirement for federal standards. *kb

Sun visors in 2006 honda civics are no good. we bought the car new and are averaging 1 sun visor per year. in four years now the driver side has been replaced twice as well as the passenger side. now, the vehicle is out of warranty and they do not want to replace it. this is obviously an ongoing problem and honda is or has done nothing the better these visors. it makes no sense for me to pay for the same product knowing that it will do same thing again. honda needs to come up with a better design and recall these vehicle's before one falls down in someone's face and there is a serious accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. while the vehicle was parked, the driver's side sun visor released without assistance and failed to remain in the upward position. the defective sun visor obstructed the driver's visibility. the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in motion or stationary. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they repaired the vehicle under warranty. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on a separate occasion for identical failures and repairs were made again. the failure mileage was 29,322 and current mileage was 64,404.

The driver side sun visor has completely split apart not allowing it to close. it hangs down in front of my line of vision and will not stay back up. it obstructs my view when i try to drive and especially makes it difficult to see at night. my boyfriend cannot even drive my car because he can't see below the visor. the visor started to crack slightly when my car passed its 36k mile warranty, but every summer it has cracked further and further where it's now to the point that the sun visor won't stay up for a second. i called the national honda customer service number and they said that the dealerships need to diagnose the problem before they can do anything to address the situation. however, the dealerships won't diagnose the problem unless there is paid a "diagnosis fee" (and even at that point there is no guarantee that national honda will correct the issue). this is a serious safety hazard that completely obstructs a driver's line of vision and especially impairs night time driving. *tr

Sun visors on both the driver side and passenger side glue gives out causing the clamp to lose tension and the visor to fall down unexpectedly. at highway speeds, this can startle the driver causing an accident. honda knows about the problem but has yet to fix the part. i have had to have the drivers side and passenger side visors replaced three times since i bought the car in 2006. this issue affects civics both two and four door models in the 2006 thru 2010 year models. i currently have 111,000 miles on my car with a passenger side visor which has gone out for the same issue again. when added to the visors which came with the car, i currently have had four go bad on the drivers side and five go bad on the passenger side. honda makes visors that will not go bad in this way in their other models. they should be made to fix the root cause of the problem, sun visor design. *tr

The driver's side visor broke off completely. the internal mechanism used to raise and lower the visor does not move easily -- now, not at all --causing the plastic visor to fall apart. dealer has agreed to replace it, but it is on back order because of the number of complaints and problems with this component. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the sun visor in the vehicle breaks very easily during normal usage. he had the passenger seat sun visor repaired. the current mileage was 65,000 and failure mileage was 32,000.

8th generation civics exposed to hot weather may experience failure to their visors. this causes the loss of integrity in components of the visors, preventing them from staying up. this is a safety issue as the visor is either in the way of the driver or won't stay in a fixed position when pushed to the side. *tr

2006 honda civic ex, sun visors on both drive and passenger sides failed and could not be retracted, blocking view. 1st set failed 6mo from purchase replaced under warranty failed again but now out of warranty. when interior of car is hot plastic on visors splits and loses "detent" can not be put back out of view. dealer knows of problems. several owners blogs show many such complaints. sun visors are unusable. *tr

I have a 2006 honda civic lx. under warranty in 2007 the passenger sun visor broke when i put it down. at this point it would not stay up when you push it up, it would just hang straight down and block my vision to my right, not safe. the dealer replace it under warranty and told me that there was a bulletin on this issue. in 2008 the same thing append to my driver side. i had the same results as the right side visor. 2009 passenger side broke again it was fixed under warranty. june 2010 passenger side broke again but it is out of warranty and will cost me $60 to fix. this is unsafe, obscures my vision. july 6 2010 the driver side broke again, the will not fix it, it will cost me $60. there is a definite production problem here and honda no's it. *tr

My 2006 honda civic ex sunvisors have broke and i have replaced them twice. please force honda to fix the issue, there are literally 1000 s of people with the same issue. it has become a safety issue with me. i struggle on sunny days, and just pray nothing jumps out in front of me. *tr

The incident date is non-specific as this is an ongoing issue. the sun visors are very stiff and the effort required to raise and lower them frequently results in the visor springing away from the retaining clip. this movement could startle unsuspecting drivers or result in the visor hitting the driver's head. i have reported this issue to the local dealer and was advised that the visors had to be that stiff or they would "flop" down. this is inaccurate - we have a 2006 hyundai sonata that has a very light action on the sun visors and to-date, we have experienced no problems with the visor "flopping" down. i had hoped that the visor mechanism would slacken with time; however, this has not been the case. *jb

Sun visors in 2006 honda civic are melting and cracking causing the visors to hang down and will not go up into proper position. this cause visibility problems while driving. *tr

I own a 2006 honda civic and mice kept coming into the vehicle via the air ducts and deficating all over my car. i took it back to the local honda dealer and they said there wasn othing they could do. hanta virus has killed people in our area and you catch that from coming into contact with mice.. i have heard of other honda owners complain of this same problem. *ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the driver and passenger side sun visors were fractured and obstructing her view of the roadway. the sun visor was hanging down and she would have to hold it up and drive at the same time. the manufacturer did not offer any assistance in repairing the vehicle. the current mileage is 38,000 and the failure mileage was unknown. updated 07/08/11 *bf the dealer attempted to repair the visor by replacing it six to eight times, but to no avail. the consumer stated honda issued a continuation of the visor warranty up to 8 years. updated 08/04/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the driver and passenger side sun visors are defective and come apart with the slightest pull. the front passenger side sun visor fell off. the dealer and manufacturer stated that the equipment was not included in the warranty. the current mileage was 41,800 and failure mileage was 33,000.

Traveling on interstate 64 when the rear glass shattered and imploded into the vehicle. glass was projected into the cockpit of the car (all over the place). drivers side window was down completely, along with the passenger window down approximately 3". dealer ship was called and they ask that the car be returned immediately. there were no other passengers in the vehicle. the driver was covered with glass debris and also obtained a small cut on forehead. traffic was mild. *jb

The 2006 honda civic sun visors for the front window on both the driver and passenger sides fall apart in the summer heat. *jb

The sun visors in my 2006 honda civic is made of plastic, and the plastic softens/melts to the point where the sun visors cannot be placed back into their original position nor do they stay put in the down position. this blocks a portion of the normal view of the road and can be a hazard. it is a terrible design that honda needs to fix. i originally had honda replace it as part of the warranty but have not gotten it replaced after the warranty ran out since it will continue to fail at least annually. it's sad to see that it is 4 years later, and they still have not figured out not to put those into that car. if i buy another car from honda and it has a plastic sun visor, i will not buy it. it is a deal breaker b/c it is such a nuisance and is a perfect example of a company not learning and implementing their own lessons learned. *tr

Since we bought the car new we have replaced a total of 7 sun visors. especially during the summer, the warm weather causes the seam to fail and the visor split at the shaft. our eighth one has failed. the result is that the visor hangs down and will not return up out of the way. this is a common problem per our dealer. there needs to be engineering of the product. i have had no problems with my 08 rav4. a search of the internet will result in a history of complaints.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the sun visor exhibits cracks due to the heat and separates from the hook. the failure occurred four times. the vehicle has replaced the sun visor each time it deteriorates. the failure mileage was 5000 and the current mileage was 62172.

Sun visors on both driver and passenger sides constantly split open causing them to hang down (unable to put sun visor up) blocking line of sight. visors have been replaced once under warranty but continually break. forced to drive with hanging visor blocking line of sight or driving with no visor at all risking sun blinding at certain time of the day. upon looking at forums online i've noticed that several, several people have this same issue. visors appear to be melting with heat from sun. bad design since the visor will obviously be exposed to the sun. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the driver's side sun visor would not remain in the upright position when the vehicle was moving or parked. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that there was a design defect that could recur. the vehicle was repaired for free. the failure occurred identically on two separate occasions on both the driver and passenger side. the failure mileage was 200 and current mileage is 3500. updated 09/24/08. *lj updated 09/26/08. *jb

Both driver side and passenger sun visors fell apart and would not open or close properly. this hindered my driving ability by not blocking the sun when needed and by falling open when not needed. dealership replaced visors with the same type of equipment and told me to not be surprised if they break again because they believe the equipment is faulty. *nm

Problem: failure of sun visor on 2006 honda civic. i recently purchased a honda civic from mission valley honda in san diego california. the car is now about 4 months old and both of the sun visors are falling apart. i know this is now a huge safety issue, but a visor falling off in a crash or during air bag deployment is something i am concerned with. on taking the car to the dealer they told us that the part is on back order because they are falling apart on many of the new civics. i am writing this because i do not know if you have been informed of the problem, and it does seem that a re-design of the part may be needed to correct the problem, and may warrant a recall. please feel free to contact me about this matter. -andrew gibbs. *nm

2006 honda civic engine died while driving. customer states that the engine stalled and it was the dealers fault for when she had an oil change and they forgot to put oil in it. *kb the consumer stated there were two more incidents where the engine slowed and was very sluggish and the vehicle had to be towed back to the dealer. the consumer stated the driver's side window was not closing properly, the rear passenger door seal was coming apart, the brakes, rear door weather strip, and tail light were all replaced. *tr

I own a 2006 honda civic, and i'm sure you already know what i'm about to complain about... the visors! they are no good! in the 5 yrs i've had this car, i've had to replace them about 4 times already. luckily 2 times i didn't pay anything since they were under warranty. unfortunately now i own the car, and it's becoming really annoying. the design on these visors is ridiculous! when it's hot outside, i have to remember not to use them or else once i pull them down it cracks open at the hinge and breaks. this is quite costly especially since this is a recurring problem with this design. it's not only expensive for the vehicle owners, but also a hazard to drivers. when the visor breaks and can't be pulled back up, it blocks the driver's vision. you can't see the signal lights unless you hold the visor up with one hand while you drive. this should have been recalled a long time ago. i mention it to the dealer every time, but they don't take the initiative to do anything about it. they're probably happy since is brings in a constant revenue for them from all the civic owners that have the same problem every year. please help! *tr
