Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2006 Honda Civic

Both driver side and passenger side sunvisors will not operate correctly. due to the design, the visors will come apart and you cannot position them safely. while the vehicle was under the typical 30,000 mile / 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, the dealership had replaced approximately 10 sets due to them coming apart. now that i am out of the 3-year warranty period, honda refuses to replace the sunvisors. *tr

The plastic pieces inside the sunvisors have snapped and are now hanging down. this is a safety hazard because it is always in my face. i have a 2006 honda civic si and have read a plethora of complaints from multiple customers with the same problem; some have replaced their visors several times (out of pocket). this is absolutely a design flaw, which is wide-spread across the country. i live in ohio and the summers are quite warm, but not as hot as arizona; many complaints i've read are felt to be heat-related. however, no matter where in the country one lives, it can easily be over 110 degrees in a closed car, which should have been considered when designing these visors. *tr

The driver's side visor in my 2006 honda civic cracked open on its top seam which prevented the visor from staying in the "up" position. at first i did not think it would be a big deal but i soon realized that it really did interfere with my line of sight. consequently, i had the visor replaced. 15 months after having the visor replaced it has now cracked again. once again the visor will not stay in its upright position and it interferes with my line of sight. *ln

This is a recurring problem for owners of 2006 honda civics. the problem affects visibility while operating a vehicle and poses a potential significant safety hazard. the sun visors on 2006 honda civics crack at the hinge and the visor is then inoperable and cannot be returned to its original position. this results in an obstruction of clear view out of the windshield and happens repeatedly while driving. my dealer, ron tonkin honda, portland, oregon, is willing to replace the visor this time. however, they notified me that this is a recurring problem and honda has not yet recalled or changed the design so that it may occur again. i include a link to a website in which many other civic owners have complained about the same defective sun visors: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/civic/2006/accessories-interior/sun_visor_falls_apart.shtml. i feel that this is an item that definitely needs to be recalled and replaced with a new design. thank you. *tr

2006 honda civic si driver side sun visor broke at about 40,000 miles. this is now a hazard because i cannot block direct sunlight, or it hangs down too low that it impairs my vision. honda wants $61 for the part alone. i have found numerous complaints about the sunvisors on the internet, they seem to need replacing typically every two years. *tr

While driving on the interstate the driver side sun visor broke off and hit my arm. it scared me and i swerved off of the road nearly causing an accident. after researching the internet trying to find a replacement, i discovered that there have been hundreds of people affected by this manufacturing problem in the 2006 honda civics. honda is aware of the situation and is refusing to take responsibility for the repair unless still covered under the warranty. they have advised me that they will split the cost of part and labor but will not consider anything this else. this could have caused my or my children or others on the road at the time our life. i hope that others have not had to experience something more than i have. this should be a recall and they should take full responsibility for the error in manufacturing. i was unable to repair immediately due to a crisis in my family. please check the internet for the many complaints and problems that people have been having. people have repaired their sun visors multiple times and continue to have them break . this could become vary hazardous and should be corrected. *tr

Drivers side visor will not stay up. if i need it to stay up i have to hold it up while i drive. when i looked on autobeef.com i found 40+ complaints about this same issue. from the information i found on that site, even if i have it fixed it will be replaced with another faulty part and will have to be replaced repeatedly. at present my car has less than 40,000 miles on it. *tr

The sun visor on the honda civic 2006 will not stay up. this is the second time the sun visor has broken on this model. the sun visor obstructs the view to drive. this, according to internet research is a common occurrence and a design issue. *tr

Normal usage of driver's side sun visor - splits apart and will not stay up. failure is continuous and cannot be corrected without replacing visor. *tr

Car parked over the weekend in shaded area. monday morning, flipped the visor down when it split open along the seam. a metal bracket popped out, leaving the visor dangling down. the visor is a hazard that several passengers have bumped their heads into it. the visor creates blind spot when driving. i called honda and they refuse to repair damaged parts. my drivers side visor is also split open. honda suggested i call the dealership. i have called several dealerships in an effort to have them replace the visors. managers refuse to speak to me or have refused to return my calls. *tr

2006 honda civic sedan sun visor defective and is dangling due to 2-part design. this is a distraction to the driver. events leading up to failure are negligible. i have had this car for 3 years and hardly use the sun visor, except to hold up a sun screen for when the car is parked. i have not yet had the chance to fix this issue. *tr

When my car sits in the sun for any amount of time, my sun visors will not stay up, flat against the ceiling of the car. the droop down, sometimes into my vision. i have called honda about a replacement, but because the car is no longer under warranty they want to charge me approx $150 to replace both sun visors. the visors are being used normally, under normal circumstances this should not happen. *tr

2006 honda civic lx - driver's side sun visor has failed twice. i'm 6' and with the visor falling down completely blocks my view of the road preventing safe driving. my wife is 5'-4" and needs the visor to protect from sun glare. honda replaced the first one under warranty, however the car is now out of warranty and the part has failed again in less than a year with the same problem. evidently the heat is causing the glue to fail and the visor to split open. from researching on the internet, this is evidently a very common recurring problem and needs to be addressed.... i would hate to have an accident and possibly hurt someone or hurt myself because of not being able to see the road. *tr

My driver's side sun visor has cracked and will no longer go into the upright position when it is warm outside. this happened once 2 years ago and honda replaced it, but the new one did the exact same thing. the visor blocks my vision and is also in a potential dangerous position if i was to be in an accident or front impact because my head will slam right into the side of the visor. the visor does not meet testing standard s8.5 of the national highway traffic safety administration and department of transportations code of federal regulations sec. 571.201 which states: sun visors. each sun visor shall be placed in any position where one side of the visor is in contact with the vehicle interior surface (windshield, side rail, front header, roof, etc.). my sunvisor will not contact these surfaces. this is a very common issue with the 2006+ civics; there is a service bulletin out for it. honda will replace them if you are under warranty, but honda has refused to replace the part for me and many others, because we are just outside of the warranty. here is a video showing the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bgghltv4o0. *tr

When temperatures rise inside of the car, the plastic mechanisms holding the visor onto the metal arm, breaks and renders the visor useless. the visors then hang straight down at all times, making vision while driving extremely difficult. i have had them both replaced on 4 separate occasions, at the same dealer. the only "repair" made, was placement of a new visor. (which will then will break once the inside of the vehicle is hot enough.) (again.) *tr

Driver and passenger sun visors broke and are dangling. will be out of warranty in 3 weeks so will be getting replaced by the dealer this week. *tr

While putting my car visor down to block sun on the driver side, the left hinge made a loud popping noise, "splitting" the visor open. it will no longer lock in an open or closed position, making it dangerous to drive as it flaps down in front of one's eye when driving. no tape or other fix seems to work. of course, i am two months out of warranty. *tr

Sun visor split and will not stay in up position, causing visibility problems. *tr

When lowered, found the the driver side sun visor had split open and would not hold in an up position position. *tr

Driver side sun visor split at seam and won't stay in position. i improvised a repair. *tt

Driver side visor on 2006 honda civic lx split in center. the visor does not stay put and obstructs drivers view. pieces of plastic from inside the visor fall with any attempt of moving the visor while driving. i called honda america at 1-800-999-1009 in which they advised me to call a dealer to get an estimate on visor as my vehicle is no longer under warranty. i called the dealership twice and they give me the run around, failing to speak with me, return my calls. after second call to honda they said they could not do anything as my car is not under warranty. *tr

Own a '06 honda civic ex: only owner. both sun visors split at hinge same day. removed foil sun screen and raised both visors at same time which resulted in both visors splitting open. both are inoperable at this time. have seen multiple complaints of this online, some folks have even replaced them with oem replacements only to have it happen again. lots of posts from the south west, where the heat is more intense. i live in ohio where the heat is more moderate and have the same issue. at time of this posting, there were 42 other similar postings. *tr

Sun visors cracked for 3rd time since i purchased the car (new) on oct 4th 2006. when they crack, they can't be put back in place, and they hang down interfering with vision. honda refuses a recall, though they acknowledge that defective adhesive is used. *tr

06 honda civic coupe drivers side sun visor failed again (second time). splits and falls apart. this is a safety hazard. dealer replaced under warranty 1st time, however vehicle is now just out of warranty and i expect dealer will not replace for free. this part is a failed design and can cause a driving hazard if it fails and flops down at the wrong time. *tr

2006 honda civic ex 4drsd driver's side sunvisor became inoperable due to sun/heat falling down and suddenly obscuring driver's vision while in motion. was told by dealer that honda will not cover cost after warranty expires that including extended warranty. the visor is made from plastic with plastic internal parts. when subjected to prolong heat/sunlight the visor pops/cracks and becomes defective. there are numerous cases/complaints lodged with honda but the company refuses to except responsibility for this parts defect. the part to replace is about 60 plus dollars w/o labor and are not guaranteed if the same problems occur down the road. *tr

2006 honda civic sunvisor keeps falling down and blocks viewing of inside rear view mirror. *tr

Driver side and passenger side sun visor fails and falls into drivers view. *tr

Broken sun visor (drivers side). pulled visor down to block shade and the visor split apart from the center and fell apart. *tr

Sun visor on the 2006 honda civic fails. the failure will keep the visor in the down position thus limiting proper outbound vision. the failed part(s) were replaced while under warranty but not thereafter. *tr

Sun visor on m,y 2006 honda civic broke along attach point. visor will no longer stay up and out of vision, cannot see to drive or its pointing right at my face-if in a collision, would probably decapitate me. *tr

I am an owner of a 2006 honda civic ex coupe. since the purchased, i have noticed a constant clicking coming from the sun visor. just recently, the driver side visor cracked and is now permanently hanging down in my field of vision. it does not fold back up and is becoming a distraction while i am driving. i have also had the plastic particles from the crack fly into my eyes when i had the window down. i've read over 200 complaints online and everyone seems to have similar problems. unlike many owners who had to have their visors replaced several times, i am fortunate to say that this will be my first. i finally brought my car in today to have it replaced but only to find out that it is no longer covered under my warranty. i was told it would cost $70 to have it replaced. this has certainly become a safety problem given that the broken visor is hanging down and blocking half of my windshield when there is no sun and when there is sun, it is not properly blocking it. *tr

1. car was parked outside. sun visor broke after trying to adjust it. 2. sun visor is unusable and hangs from the roof. 3. only repair available is to replace the sun visor at a honda dealer. *tr

My sun visor on my brand new 06 honda civic is broken for the 3rd time since i bought the car brand new. *tr

Driving in rain, windshield wipers on intermittent, and they started running full - not intermittant. moved wiper switch to full, and back to intermittent, without any change. moved wiper switch to fast, and back to full and intermittent, and still no change. turned wipers off, but they kept running while switch was in the off position. pulled off highway. moved switch postion back and forth and then back to off. wipers still kept running. turned off car, wipers stopped. waited a few minutes, started car, wipers started up even though switch still in off position. wipers swept twice, and then froze in the full up position. turned off car again. restarted car, was able to get wipers to run intermittent again, but kept them that way for remainder of ride home. was afraid to change switch position again for fear of complete failure and being stranded far from home in the rain with no wipers. after research, i now see that there is a honda tsb 07-071 dated nov 22, 2007 for this issue that supersedes another from oct 19, 2007. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. the contact stated that the driver and passenger sun visors hinges fractured and the visors would not remain in the closed, upright position. in addition, the driver seat would not lock into place when adjusted. the rear passenger seat backing had also fractured with exposed wiring. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised there was no recall for the failures and that the contact would have to pay for the repairs. the manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance. updated 06/03/11 *bf

The driver side visor keeps breaking blocking my driving visibility and honda nor the honda dealerships will take responsibility or recall it. *tr

Sun visors does not stay up flops down and impairs visions. *tr

Broken driver side visor, would not stay up, block the view while driving. this is a recurrent problem and honda would not fix it, even though is clearly a manufacture defect. my car has 55,234 miles. *tr

The sun visor on the drivers side broke for no apparent reason...very hazardous when driving...have researched the past several months...dealers, customers, internet, all are addressing this problem...honda will not cover the cost out of warranty...should be a recall on this as it impairs driving and is dangerous. *tr

Design defect of sunvisor on 2006 honda civic leads to failure of sun visor to stay in up position. sunvisor falls down to block drivers vision. problem is well documented by many owners on web sites such as http://www.usrecallnews.com/2007/09/major-honda-civic-recall-of-2006-and-2007-models.html to my knowledge honda has not issued a recall or redesigned the defective part. *tr

Sun visor wont stay up now. *tr

Sun visor on my 2006 honda civic has cracked open and just hangs there impairing my vision of the road. this is the second time this happens, the first time was about a year ago and now it has happened again. i called honda and they said they can't do anything about it. i am out of warranty and have to pay out of pocket. i have read on the internet that i am not the only one with this problem. i wonder howe many times we as owners have to keep paying for something that does not work. clearly honda is not addressing the problem as they are making money off of us and are afraid of losing some. if the visor impedes proper visual of the road wouldn't this be a safety hazard? does anyone have to get hurt on the road in order for this to be taken care of? *tr

My sun visors continually break on my 2006 honda civic. the dealership has replaced them for free; however, it is a hassle to get them to do it. they try to charge me until i get fuming mad and tell them that this is my xx number of trips back to their dealership with the same problem. it is a safety hazard to have your sun visor crack or split and hang down in your face while you are driving. the sun visors used by honda are inferior and need to be recalled and replaced with a better version. *tr

I have a 2006 honda civic ex and as i was going down the highway in afternoon traffic the sun was shining i my eyes so i went to put the visor down and it fell off in my lap and i almost ran into another car. i have not fixed this because i felt like this should be a recall it's a new car. why did honda fix the later years if there isn't a problem. please help us these new visors are $180.00 . *tr

My driver's side visor is defective and hangs right in my line of vision when driving. the only way to avoid this is to tape it to the ceiling of the car. in talking with other honda civic owners, it appears that this is a product defect. my concern is that it impedes safe driving, but is costly to fix. *tr

Driver's side sun-visor on 2006 honda civic is not usable. when pulled down to block the sun, the visor pulls apart. when trying to return the visor to the upright position, the visor gets stuck blocking the drivers view of the road. seems to be something wrong with the glue because this only happens when the vehicle is parked in the sun, but occurs even if it is as cold as 30 degrees outside. *tr

Have had the driver's side visor replaced three times for breakage. the passenger side visor replaced two times for breakage. car was bought on 1/06. breakage continues. was covered by warranty but is not anymore. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda civic. while stopped at a traffic light, the driver side sun visor dropped down and would not go back up. the visor was replaced under warranty. a month later, the visor fell again. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that there were no similar complaints. the dealer was currently investigating the problem at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was approximately 55,000. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Both sun visors on 2006 honda civic have broken. the driver's side broke at ~59,000, fixed and broke again at 82,000. the driver's side visor is currently hanging in the line of sight and ready to fall off. it split apart at the top seam. both visors do not sit in the closed position properly which causes them to constantly be in the driver's line of sight when driving. visors remain in the open position - unable to close when not needed which impairs driving vision. recall???? *tr

1) since i've owned my car, i have had to replace a faulty visor..and each time it gets hot outside, my visor acts up and ends up breaking and hanging in front of my face while i drive. 2) every summer it won't work properly and eventually it breaks requiring it to be replaced. 3) you have no choice but to replace it each time this happens. and it's unpredictable as to when it's going to break. there is no fix to prevent it from happening. they need to come up with a redesign that is not faulty. honda does have the part, but now that my warranty is up, i have to pay for it each time it breaks. that just doesn't seem fair. *tr
