According to nhtsa recall number 20v-027, my vehicle is equipped with a defective airbag that, if deployed in an accident, could seriously injure or kill me. honda states that free recall inspections and free repairs will not begin for one year, as alternative replacement parts are not yet available. what am i supposed to do until then? i travel around 200 miles weekly for work, and i cannot afford to buy another car. i feel like i'm risking my life every time i step in my car now. would i be better off just removing the airbag myself?

I was involved in a single car, weather related accident. i was traveling approximately 35-40 miles per hour in heavy snow. i was wearing my seatbelt which came unlatched upon initial impact with a guard rail on the rear passenger side. my car then crossed the road and went into a ditch, striking some large boulders. that impact was on the front, driver side of the vehicle. the airbag did not deploy and the car was significantly damaged and declared a total loss. i was injured with a broken right arm, broken right leg, nine broken ribs and significant lacerations to my head and right ear from impacting the rear view mirror and front windshield. i spent 12 days in a critical care unit and 18 days in a rehabilitation center for physical therapy. i had to have plates and screws installed in my leg and arm to repair the broken bones. my husband inspected and tested the driver seatbelt and while it did appear to hold on some solid latches of the belt, was able to observe it fail and come unlatched after hearing a solid click/latch sound and then pulling with hand strength on the belt having it come unlatched.

Tl* the contact owned a 2000 honda civic. while driving 40 mph, the driver rear ended the preceding vehicle. the contact was seated in the front passenger seat and her air bag did not deploy in a timely manner. as a result, the contact's head struck the front windshield. when it deployed, the passenger air bag caused skin abrasions on the left forearm that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed and towed. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified. the cause of the failure was unknown. the failure mileage was 137,589.

Takata recall air bags

The cars safety belts have had trouble retracting for about 5 years. i was unaware of being able to report safety issues, or would have much sooner. most recently the low beams went out. the srs light is also on. the cars horn is wired into the srs system. so you loose two major safety features at once. very bad design. the drivers seat had been loose for years. the skid plate/floorboard cracked and allowed the bolts or hardware to corrode. i ran the vin and was surprised no recalls are available, as the problems my family is experiencing have been recalled on similar honda's. *tr

Airbags deployed without cause, resulting in injury to driver. the car then left its lane and struck curb, damaging left wheel, tire and suspension. injuries to driver were abrasions to chin, blood from mouth, swollen face and bad bruising to chest and breast(female driver). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda civic. the contact stated that the drivers side seat belt was unable to retract and would pop out of place, causing the srs light to illuminate. when the srs light was illuminated it deactivated the air bag system. the failure could potentially cause injury during a crash. the dealer advised the contact have the seat belt buckle replaced since there was a lifetime warranty. the seat belt buckle was repaired; however, the srs light continued to illuminate deactivating the air bag system. the manufacturer confirmed that there was a lifetime warranty on seat belts but not on the air bag system. the current and failure mileages were 155,000.

I was driving down riverside in rockford. when i entered the intersection at riverside and rockton, a car turned in front of me. i had no time to react and hit the car at 40 mph. my two door 2000 honda civic ex is totaled due to the amount of damage sustained to the front of my vehicle. however, my airbags never deployed. i never had any airbag lights on in my car prior to the accident or any warnings indicating that the airbag did not work. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda civic. while turning a corner between 60-70 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and struck a dirt bank on the side of the road. his head struck the windshield and the air bags failed to deploy. the contact suffered a concussion and had a cut/bruise on his forehead from striking the windshield. the front end and rear of the vehicle were damaged. the contact does not know what happened after the crash because he blacked out. a passerby woke him up and called 911. the contact did not know how long he was unconscious. the vehicle was rendered as destroyed. the police arrived and filed a report. there were no other passengers in the vehicle and the contact was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 108,000.

I was involved in a horrible car crash on march 15, 2008. an 18-wheeler swerved into my lane while driving on the highway. when the 18-wheeler swerved, the back of his load hit (the 1st) time on the passenger side. i was then sucked underneath the 18-wheeler, flipped several times while being drug for 100 yards still underneath the 18-wheeler the entire time. once the vehicle stopped, i was upside down hanging from the 18-wheeler. the airbags in my 2000 honda civic never deployed from any side. i was hit with a major impact at every angle upside down and all around. the er medical had to do on-site procedures due to the damage to my head, arm, and leg. they were unable to take my seatbelt off, it had to be cut off. i had a problems in the past with my driver's side seatbelt getting stuck. on a normal day, i normally would have ro jerk the sealtbelt off of me. please advise me on this situation. i am just now being able to report the airbag situation because i have been in the hospital due to the terrible accident. *tr

Roll over and head on collision of vehicle but no airbag deployment. numerous comments on internet about airbags lack of deployment on this vehicle. i contacted honda and they are non responsive to inspect the airbags and to determine if they are faulty. i have the vehicle in my possession and would like it properly inspected to determine if the airbags should have deployed. *tr

My 17 year old son was in a one car accident monday morning. he was driving a 2000 honda civic lx. he was traveling east bound on i-30. time of the accident was around 7 am. the car was on cruise control at 70 mph. he apparently dozed off and woke up in the median. scared to death. he came back up on the interstate. he thought he was putting the brakes on but said he was probably really giving it gas. he spun around a couple of times on the interstate and crashed head on into a guard rail. fortunately he is ok. he said he had to be going 40-50 mph when he hit the guard rail. my question is. when scott hit the guard rail he went forward. the seat belt did not tighten up. he hit the steering wheel and came back when the seat belt finally tightened up. there was no deployment of the air bag since it was a front impact crash at over 40 mph, should the airbags have went off. the place where the car is thinks that it is totaled. geico looked at it, who is my insurance agent and said it would cost around $4300 to fix it. thanks for your help in this matter. *jb
