We have classified the 211 complaints from 2014 Honda Accord about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Initial problem with push button start - would not start on first push. started at about 55k mileage. problem has worsened - may start on first push, but sometimes takes many pushes in combination with brake release and depressing or just pushing without touching the brake - then braking and pushing. very intermittent in terms of how many pushes - sometimes just a couple, sometime 10 or more! now at just under 60k mileage, car cannot be trusted. error codes come up as 85-01 vsa system malfunction and 61-11 vsa modulator control unit power source circuit (ic) low voltage and b-1240 - a problem in the mode control linkage door or motor. these error codes do not seem related to the push button start issue, but is another problem to investigate and fix. the push button problem happens to many people and honda is aware of it. my mechanic called his inside contact at the local dealer and they keep starters on hand for this. they will not handle as a warranty or 'recall' type problem and one has to pay a lot for the fix - starter replacement can be close to $1k!! another honda contact knows of this issue - it is because the starter on the accord, especially the 2.4l engine, is mounted below the exhaust manifold, heats up significantly and begins to fail - depends more on the # of starts than mileage, apparently. my accord is started many times per day. this issue should be fixed under a recall event, i believe, but i must get mine fixed now!!! not good! also a problem from day 1, is the forward warning camera gets hot, here in southern cal, and will not work until the ac system cools it down. very unsafe and worthy of further review as well. *js
There has been numerous complaints in regards to the starter having a "grinding", "static-like", or "whining" sound and it has seemingly affected my car as well. for example, when i am preparing to leave for my destination, do a basic press of the starter button, and i will hear that grinding and whining sound... on occasion, it will take a number of tries to get the car started. this has been happening on the regular. there is a honda technical bulletin (dated february 5, 2016) number 16-002 in regards to the starter and also a pending class action lawsuit (merkin v. honda north american inc., american honda motor co., honda motor company ltd.) i cannot pinpoint an exact date on when this started (i gave you my best answer), but it has been going on for several months and i fear if it continues, it could hurt my car in the long run or i could possibly be stranded if i go on a long journey somewhere
I've been having issues starting car for approx. 1 1/2 yrs as everybody who has filed a complaint for this starter issue. i am a struggling american just like many, got let go from 19 yrs of service and finally got a part time job at an afb, bad timing, my 1st at work and the starter issue got to the point that now it simply doesn't start, it used to take up to 20 tries, had a hard time getting tow truck into base because of restrictions. my previous car was having problems passing smog test, so decided to buy a reliable vehicle, had many options to buy from but honda had a reputable legacy. now i stress out because a 2 1/2 yr old car is giving tons of honda owners the same started problem. we are being forced to take vehicles back to dealership and pay $900 plus labor because ey are the only ones that sell starters for this make and model, there is no aftermarket parts. it is not fair nor right that because of hondas defective parts fail and we are being made responsible for. when paying for a $30,000+ vehicle people expect peace of mind and not unreliable lemons. it may not be a serious safety issu but this starter issue should be categorized as defective issue and there should be a recall because is leaving hardworking struggling americans stranded everywhere. is it a coincidence that this problem starts right around 36,000 miles. it is possible that it's a matter of the starter units getting too hot or bad wiring but brand new cars should not be having electrical issues, that's just validates that this are faulty electrical starters and honda should be held responsible for it, there ought to be a recall for defective electrical units.
Experiencing an intermittent problem when starting the car sometimes you turn the key and it will not start so far it has started but one time it was several minutes before it would start concern that this could be an issue that will leave me or a family member stranded-- the car is so new i don't think this should be a problem that we would have to deal with-- of course this just started happening after the warranty has run out
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. after driving more than 15 miles at highway speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. also, the instrument panel warning indicators, including the check engine indicator, illuminated. the vehicle was taken to open road honda in edison, nj, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,000.
I started having an issue with my car about 2 weeks ago. my car has the new push button start and i started having problems getting it to crank. while stationary it would take anywhere from 1 to 10 attempts(sometimes more) before it would crank. i have not even owned this car 3 years. the dealership told me i needed a new starter. this has happened to me in parking lots, on the side of the road, at gas pumps and at home. you are required to turn your car off at gas pumps but with this problem you are afraid to turn your car off in fear of it not starting again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. prior to the contact receiving notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v418000 (electrical system), the charge system warning alert failed numerous times. in order to start the vehicle, it had to be jumpstarted. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (majestic honda, 1300 eddie dowling hwy, lincoln, ri, 02865) where it was not diagnosed. the contact also went to two other unknown dealers in warwick, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Power door actuator on right side rear door failed in apr 2016 and now power door actuator on left side rear door failed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. when the push start button was depressed, an abnormal grinding noise could be heard and the vehicle would not start. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 44,000. the vin was not provided.

The month after our vehicle warranty expired, everything went wrong. i had trouble turning my car on for the time when i was at work (about an 8 mile drive from home).. i drove to work with no issues and about 3 hours later of it being stationary, it wouldn't turn on. i tried about 10 times. i had to leave my car there overnight and call someone to pick me up. i was lucky that i realized it wasn't working during lunch. i usually got off from work at 6pm when there was no one left in the office and if i didn't have a phone on me, i would have been alone there in an unsafe neighborhood. .the mechanic told me it was the starter and seeing how it was a 3 year car with not enough miles to warrant starter problems, that it was defective. we took it to honda and they said they would not cover the charges. we paid for a new starter out of pocket and it solved the problem. now the power window button on the driver's side for the front passenger window does not work. one day it just stopped working. i typically drive with my mom in the passenger seat and she often gets anxiety attacks. the wind makes her feel better and when an episode while driving happened, i wasn't able to put her window down to help her. the left headlight on the car is also broken. i didn't realize it right away since the right one works. in a sense, it's terrible that something in the car was broken and that there was no car signal to notify me. we realize that cars require upkeep, but for a 5 year old car to have this many mechanical issues is ridiculous. i realize that these
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. the failure mileage was 14,000.
My 2014 honda accord has been leaving me stranded because the car kills the battery. it started last year and the dealer said the battery was fine, and left it at that. now a year later the batter is still testing good but the car has left me 3 times in one day in 2 different occasions. i permanently have to cart jumping cables just i. case. i'm so sad to see that i'm paying and i've been such a faithful honda client and this is really devestating.
Rear right door lock actuator failed and prevents from opening and closing the door.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. the contact stated that the rear passenger side power lock failed to unlock the door. as a result, the door had to be unlocked manually. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger side door power actuator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred with the front passenger side and the rear driver side doors. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,366.
My 2014 honda accord sport developed starting problems. i took my car to dealer and they stated that it was a starter problem. because i have 47,000 miles on the car, warranty does not cover repair.
Trunk lid opens by itself intermittently. this has occurred about nine times since i bought the car one year and a half ago. this has happened while parked in my garage or on the street near my house. after the first few times it happened i began to remove the keys from my pocket and hanging them on a key hook upon entering the house. problem still occurred. i finally took the car to the dealer where i bought the car. the dealer says that they can not replicate the problem and that honda america tech support has never ever heard of such a problem. i told them to do a google search. they said there was nothing more they could do. i told them that the problem would happen again if no corrective action was taken. so i insisted that they disconnect the electronics from the remote trunk release. i have to open the trunk manually with the trunk release cable but it is better than looking out your house window and seeing your car trunk flapping in the breeze. lesson learned is that honda america does not stand behind their product. after the warranty period is up i will be switching to another brand.
When we push the starter button to crank the engine, a loud grinding noise occurs (as when you try to start an engine that is already running). began around 23,000 miles, and has gotten progressively worse over time. honda dealership was made aware of problem twice before 36,000 mi. warranty expired. honda said they found nothing wrong. now it happens every time you start vehicle...with 4 or 5 attempts to actually start car. grinding at every attempt. now at 48,000 miles , we're told that we are going to have to pay for this defect...around $900. we noticed that there is hundreds of people on line with same problem. plus many youtube videos to confirm it. we also have read reports that honda starters for these model years were manufactured incorrectly/improperly, with honda aware of it. this problem happens anywhere the vehicle is parked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. while attempting to start the vehicle and pressing the push to start button, the contact had to make multiple attempts to start the vehicle. the cause of the failure was not determined. rockettown honda (1224 n h st, lompoc, ca) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.
Soy bean based wiring. caused approx $2,200 in damage. which honda refuses to cover the cost.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. while operating the vehicle, the air bag sensor remained illuminated, which indicated that the air bag was turned off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the electrical system. the failure was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 36,000. updated 05/17/16*lj *tr
Two times while driving tonight i tried to adjust the heat but accidentally hit the ignition switch that killed the engine. in order to start you must be in park so you must stop the vehicle before restarting. this happened in a small town with light traffic. if this happened in high speed heavy traffic this situation could cause an accident for the driver or other drivers. a recall should make it impossible to shut the engine off until the car is stopped.
Flashing dashboard: fcw, engine light on, stabilizer control light,abs- all the lights flashing on dash board, unable to start card. brake pedal very hard. car was parked on street in front of home. fifth time this has happened the dealer claims it's the fourth time. car problem has never been fixed. the dealer blames alarm department. the alarm department claims dealer always blames them. however, i bought the car from the dealer, they are responsible for permanently fixing this problem. the dealership has not fixed this problem since it began in 2015. this falls inside of 18 months lemon law. i am not a mechanic but it seems to me that this is a ongoing electrical problem that the dealership seems not receptive about it.
I had a serious problem with my honda accord ex-l, 2014. while i was driving, my car showed an error message on the dash panel. it said "system failed", and the dash functions became paralyzed. smoke started coming from the hood. in a few minutes, the front part of the car was in flames. most of the car was burned.
Upon trying to accelerate, the engine hesitated then stalled. upon restarting and attempting to accelerate, the engine surged forward. driving on the freeway the engine lost power momentarily then reengaged. the a.c./climate control is again not functioning properly, and the hands-free phone function disconnected multiple times. the car was taken the car to a honda dealership approximately one week ago to have the air conditioning defect repairs completed. at that time they were unable to repair the trunk lid that has been falling down since i took possession of the vehicle in july 2014. the trunk lid falls at will.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. while the vehicle was parked and the interior of the vehicle heated up, the forward collision and lane change warning indicators independently illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the heat in the vehicle caused the forward collision and lane change warning indicators to illuminate. there was a warning about the issue in the owner's manual. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 15,500. updated 05/30/17*lj
I started my car in park while on a hill with emergency brake on. the car started moving a second or two before i released the emergency brake. immediately, i lost my power steering and brakes. i stopped the car by putting on the emergency brake and putting the trans mission in park. the total trip was about 100 yards. i noticed that 5 or 6 warning lights were on including the battery. then i quickly turned the engine off. i waited for about two minutes and restarted the engine and embarked on a 25 mile trip home without further incident.
I was driving home from work and without warning i felt my vehicle difficult to turn as i prepared to make a left turn. i looked at the instrument panel and notice my electric power steering indicator light on. i applied excessive effort to get the vehicle to turn and manage to stop in a parking lot where, i turned the vehicle off and started the engine again correcting the problem for a short period. the next morning while driving to work i encountered the same situation almost causing me to hit a vehicle and crash into a pond. updated 9/15/15 *ln.... updated 09/30/15*bf updated 11/07/2017*cn
When trying to start my 2014 honda accord lx, i have to attempt it several times turning the ignition switch back and forth before it will start. sometimes it starts right away, sometimes it takes 16 times! i took the honda to the holler honda dealership (which is the only place i take it to for service since i bought it) and they are stating it's a "starter issue" and that it's not covered under the "power train" warranty and that i would have to pay $495 for a new starter, plus $200 labor. the car being so new does not have "after market" parts and so i would have to buy it new. my last honda accord ex v6 2005 model didn't have its starter replaced until july 2012. so i know that this is clearly a defect and this is not normal!!! i've even researched the life of an average starter and most of them are at 100k miles or 5 years. so i know honda has to help me with this! i've been calling honda motor corporation in california (michael) and the holler honda dealership in orlando (maggie nero - service manager) and both of them have been dragging their feet with this. any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!
The right turn camera that is designed to help eliminate the blind spot is deactivated during high heat.,in phoenix az "high heat" means direct sunlight at over 85 degrees. when i reported the dangerous condition that this outage creates for the drivers of our car they just said, "yeah, it takes a while to cool off." sometimes 15 minutes. meanwhile i don't have the safety feature i paid for. can you imagine how often my safety camera shuts off now that we are "in season?" daily. literally every day my right turn blind spot camera shuts down with a warning that pops up on the dashboard that eliminates our ability to see other warning sensor lights. i honestly can't believe that honda is knowingly allowing this defect to remain. a high heat sensor going off at 85 degree ambient temp is absurd. they said, nope...totally normal. i'd say that a camera helping eliminate the blind spot that results in many accidents, should be working at all times. again, shame on honda. i don't know where else to turn.
Right turn signal camera would not reset when right turn completed. also happened in january. had to stop car and restart to get system working (display returning to normal operations.)
My sunroof and windows automatically opened up on their own on my 2014 honda accord. this issue could cause an accident should i be driving or cause my car to be vandalized since it is open "to the public."
This is a nightmare. honda accord 2014.last night my windows and sunroof automatically opened; there have been other random electrical problems, see below. the opening of the windows occurred during a rain storm and my brand new honda is filled with water. the dash is blank and the phob key radio searching light is not blinking; so there was a short that caused this to happen. i will never buy a honda again. if you are having any of the problems listed below, pay attention to them because i kept thinking they were just random little issues but they were precursors to this very big issue. my car is totaled!!! pay attention to the small stuff and save your life and get rid of your car. my trunk randomly opened, parked and driving. my tire pressure light is always on, even after being reset and tires checked. i'd get in my car and find the sunroof partially opened over night. there is a weird rattle in my car in the front area, sounds like its in the dash board, but could never isolate it.
Since i bought the car i've had problems with the car staying on and running , when i come to turn it on , it shuts off. i have taken it to honda dealers and they don't see anything wrong with it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the battery bolt was loose and had to be tightened. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
When starting the engine a loud squealing noise happens and it can go away or remain for multiple attempts. the starter light is on during this entire process. it may not happen for weeks then mult times a day
Grinding & spinning noise when i attempt to start the engine. the engine would eventually start after a few attempts. this should be treated as a safety issue as i am afraid electrical circuits could catch fire due to this grinding and the car could fail to start when involuntarily stopped on a busy freeway or in an unsafe parking lot, putting my family at risk. this happens almost every other time i start the engine and the car would not start until the second or third attempt. i recall that this issue first started happening probably about six months after i purchased the vehicle in june 2014 but i kept thinking that it was probably due to me not pushing the button properly as this was the first car i owned with a push button. this is an issue honda apparently knew about and issued a tsb (#16-002) in 2016 when my car was still under warranty and honda and their dealers did not disclose it to me during the many items i took my car to them and asked them if they were aware of this issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the check electric warning light illuminated. the contact noticed that there was damage to the wiring system on the motor caused by squirrels. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the technician stated that the motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred . the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,700. the vin was unavailable.
Engine cranks but fails to start, or starts sluggishly with rough idle after a few seconds of cranking in cold weather. i believe this to be a fuel pump pressure problem. *tr
On october 22 , 2014 i drove from my home to my office, approx 30 minutes. the temp outside was about freezing or high 30's. by this time the car would not get hot even on highest setting of heat. it was blowing cold air. i called gwinnettt place honda where i purchased the vehicle on june 1 2014. the dealer had the vehicle for over two hours only to tell me there is nothing wrong with the car. on thursday november 6, the heating system was blowing cold air again. on saturday i still felt cold air, so i called gwinnett place honda . they advised me to go to any dealer, so i was closet to honda mall of ga . they said they could not find anything but, would need to have the car for a longer time. i took it back to gwinnett place as it was closet to my home. on the ride in which is about 20 minutes or so, the heat was still not hot.. honda has had the vehicle since monday nov 10,2014. at the time of this complaint, i have not heard from honda regarding the status. it's 8:30pm est on thursday nov 13' 2014. *tr
we smelled fuel when driving to church on a sunday. thinking it was some leftover fuel splashed, we continued but then the smell became really intense. so we turned around and returned toward home. upon entering our street, suddenly the vehicle stalled totally out and came to a stop in middle of the road! we rolled it over to the side, it is a neighborhood street; then started car again and went slowly downhill to the house; car stalled again just outside our house, we could not get it into driveway, very strong fuel smell; we pushed it to get it parked on the street. tried again later that day to start the car but it wouldn't start, very strong fuel smell and gasoline leaking onto the street. car towed to honda dealer next day; after technicians examined the car they concluded "rodent damage" to the fuel line leading to the fuel tank. they would not cover any of the damage as it "wasn't manufacturer defect." also called national honda customer service and opened a case; but they would not agree either to cover anything. we were very lucky we weren't on a highway or interstate when this suddenly stalled out, we could have been rear ended as the car suddenly stopped with no warning! the fuel line last portion leading into the tank is made of rubber, it is not metal or hard plastic like the rest of the line and therefore subject to something sharp puncturing it--which is a defective design in our view. the new part they put on is same as the old, the same thing could happen again. there is no shield under the fuel tank area to keep things from underneath getting up in there. honda should at least cover the cost of the repair (we paid $684.09), car is almost brand new. and we believe this is a safety hazard, car can shut off with no warning. thank you for your help. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 honda accord. while driving 20-30 mph around a curve, the auto brakes engaged and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to vidmar motor company (600 n albany ave, pueblo, co 81003, (719) 544-5844) on several occasions, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the dealer's general manager was taken for a test drive, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 17v418000 (electrical system) as a possible cause. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 500.

Just purchased my 2014 honda accord lx. i live in a rural area with many small hills. while driving home i noticed the low beam headlights seem to be out of focus, not illuminating objects on the side of the road within 25 feet from the vehicle, nor can you see street signs within that distance. worse, when going up and down the small hills the roadway visibility changes rapidly depending on the angle of the car, often dropping the visibility to a scary 10-50 feet at 55 mph. yes, you can use you high beams to help "if conditions permit". nevertheless, when this happens it is very unnerving and undoubtedly unsafe! i did notify honda america and open a case #n012014-08-2801669, however, i was informed that nothing could be done, as that was the design of the headlights. this is very unsafe and needs to be addressed quickly!!!! *tr
When a car has air bags you never know if they work unless you have a crash. with fcw, if you drive safely the alarm should never go off. with our car the fcw alarm rarely sounds but sometimes it will if you were going about 25 mph or less and a car close ahead would be stopping or turning right. most times our fcw would not sound but sometimes you got false signals and you wondered why. after two dealer visits and one for 3 1/2 days there has been no change except now we do not get false signals. the honda literature says of fcw "..can sense the presence of vehicles in front of you and issues alerts if it calculates you are at risk of a collision.." that is why we bought the car and what we expect. after the second dealer visit and there was no change, the dealer service manager and i drove our vehicle and at times dangerously close to a vehicle ahead including large trucks and the fcw alarm did not sound. we tried a very similar new car off the lot like mine and drove it the same way. the fcw did not work as expected. per a sheet the dealer gave me for fcw, it states that it uses radar with a range of up to 393 ft. if a car is going up to 75 mph with a car length (20') for every 10 mph fcw should sound the alarm up to 150' and going faster than the car ahead. ours will not do that at any speed below 75 and getting too close going faster than the one ahead until going about 25 or under then not always. i say our fcw does not work. when discussing this with the dealer and a factory rep the service manager now says "it is your perception fcw does not work." i say fcw does not work consistently and at higher speeds and buyers are being deceived. with self driving cars and acc is should be possible for honda to fix or replace our fcw so that it does work and purported. there should be a recall to warn others and fix it. i welcome inspectors to test our fcw system. *tr
Trunk lid pops open shortly after driving off...red light on dashboard comes on...i have to stop the car and close the lid manually. same thing happens erratically in parked condition..have noticed trunk lid open after returning to the parking lot happens randomly but fairly often....have checked my key for proper operation. it opens the trunk lid after pressing for a second or so. *tr
I had just left the dealership after they cleared a "fcw system failed" message and i entered the interstate. while traveling in the lane adjacent to the far left at a speed of approximately 68 mph, the car violently jerked, the fcw system failed message returned, all emergency icons were illuminated on the dash, and my car lost acceleration in traffic. despite repeated attempts to accelerate the vehicle, the engine had no response and was sitting at idle while i decelerated in the middle of traffic. the vehicle was returned to the dealership where it underwent 3 days of service for what was determined to be a failed accelerator position sensor. the day after picking the car up from the service department, the vehicle was being driven on the highway at approximately 65 mph. the car, without symptoms or warning, again violently jerked, lost acceleration, and displayed the same system failed message. the car has been at the dealership for 8 days and the ecu and main wiring harness are being replaced. *tr
Came out one morning to go to work and found all four car windows and sunroof slightly opened. the w j nodes and sunroof opened by themselves. unfortunately, there was a severe thunderstorm that night which rain entered the car. it's a 2014 honda accord. i googled the problem and found out that this has been happening going back 7 years that people windows and sunroof were opened without them doing so. it's been occurring in honda and acura models. they try to say that we must have done it by the remote; but i don't use the remote, i use the car handle to open the door and the black button to lock and secure the door. i believe this is a manufacturer issue and not a consumer issue. *tr
