Hello, i have a 2008, v4 honda accord. i started having problems back october 2012 with the oil. when i get an oil change, i would need to add at least 2 quarts of oil before the next oil change is do. it started off with adding oil the very next month after a new oil change! that is so ridiculous. the only way i would know that i needed more oil was there would be a burning smell coming from the car and a knocking noise. my oil light indicator would never light up-which is another malfunction. i took the car to honda for servicing and told them what the car was doing. they told me that they did not see anything and that if it persists to bring it back in. so immediately i?m thinking that maybe they are not changing the oil correctly?! so the next few months i kind of kept track of the oil and took my car somewhere else for the oil change to see if that made a difference. within the past year since then, i have had 4 oil changes with the other place and they did tell me that there is probably a honda malfunction going on because the car is not supposed to keep losing oil within oil changes and having to add oil!! i am going to take my car in again to honda and see what they are going to do. i just do not want to have the car engine blow up on me because of something honda should have repaired. if someone else has had any resolution to their honda place, please contact me at [xxx]thanks. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Sometimes my car makes a grinding noise when i turn the key to start it. i took my car twice to the metro honda dealer in montclair, ca; but even though i have the extended guarantee, they refuse to check my car. i do not know what to do. i did some research on the internet, and i found out that a lot of people are having the same problem; and some of them had replaced the vtc actuator, and the problem was fixed. i mentioned this to the maintenance experts at metro honda, but they still do not care. my concern is that this is a situation that is not on a recall list. what should i do? *tr
Car cut off while in store for five minutes was told that if you leave keys in ignition while off it drains the battery. no car in my life that ever happened after leaving the radio in the car on and drained the battery. *tr had a problem within 3 months of buying a 2008 honda. car cut off and wouldn't start. and it did it again last night took it in before and the first time i took it in battery was fine and they check the battery today and they said it was no good but it happened a total of 4 times and there was a recall on the car and it happened to other people and which shouldn't happened cut off last night and no key in the ignition and battery died. spoke to [xxx] store manager and spoke to service manager and refuse to change the battery. all they did was charge up battery. cause they wanted me to purchase a battery for 159.00 which there is a problem. because there was a problem few months after i bought the car. and brought in for same thing now less than a year. honda told me that if you leave key in car that the car still is drawing power even though key is off. i kid you not my mom was in the car for five mins and battery died. honda of roanoke rapids don't care about customer service and doing what is right to satisfy the customer. battery was going bad before. i will never buy a car again from them. and i have the power train warranty and american honda forced me to get it and wont cover squat. i was forced to take it by american honda or else they would approve my loan. this was honda of roanoke rapids. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I bought this car pre owned at 15k the back brake went out on this car after 1year at 24k i replace brake myself i was curious why would a back brake wear out so fast on doing online lookup i found numerous owners had the same problem so i called honda regional office and i given a refund for the expense. now last year june i notice cold rattle start on my engine and now is progressively getting louder. i did a look up online and my mechanic said it vtc ( variable timing control ) actuator was found to be defective. i think honda should replace this since my car now has 80k miles i might be out of warranty. *tr
I noticed my car was making a strange noise when i first started it up. i took it to the honda dealership in roanoke virginia, and they told me i was running the car without oil. they filled it up for me, and change the oil filter. not even 3000 miles later, the car was making the same noise. i looked up on the internet forums and found the oil consumption concerns. i brought this up to the service manager at the roanoke dealership, and he dismissed it. he said it is common to put a quart of oil in the accord about every 1000 miles. i am in sales, and i drive about 900 miles a week. when this was first brought to the dealerships attention, i was just over 40,000 miles, and i was still under the factory warranty. i repeatedly brought this up to the same service manager, and he said he can do a consumption test, but it will take many miles to complete. he reassured me there was no problem. i bought this car based on its reputation of being a long-lasting vehicle with very few problems. now knowing the honda/the roanoke dealership is lying, my trust in honda has been shaken. *tr
Low oil pressure light came on for a couple of seconds. after a week of driving and still getting the low pressure light from time to time went to change the oil and the guy told me that there was almost no oil in the engine. since than i have to add a quart of oil for every 750 miles driven. that was since 2012... now i end up pouring 4 to 5 quarts between oil changes (6000 miles full synthetic oil).
Departing a parking lot at low speed, i made a turn to the left and heard a loud rattle from the engine. i stopped at the service station up the road and checked for obvious loose parts. checked the oil and found that the level barely registered on the dipstick, indicating approx. 2 quarts low. i added oil and verified that the level was full. at no time did the engine oil light illuminate. since that time i have had to add one quart of oil approximately every 900 miles. i notified my honda dealer and was advised to have them perform a software update. the update was accomplished but the rate of consumption has not changed. honda dealer advised me that this rate of consumption is considered normal. considering that this engine holds 4 quarts and that the average oil change interval is 4,000 miles (according to the honda maintenance minder software), this means that i am replacing the entire contents of the crankcase between each oil change. i was then advised that honda can perform an oil consumption check that would require me to come back to the dealer every 1,000 miles (+/- 50) for approx. 1 year. after that time, honda would determine, based on the results of the tests and the age/mileage of my vehicle, whether they would take any action. this is clearly a defect in the engine, as i change my oil when indicated by the maintenance minder and can produce all the records to prove the car has been serviced properly. i seek the appropriate correction of this problem by honda. *tr
2008 honda accord ex l 4 cyl burns an excessive amount of oil. generally i have to put in a quart of oil every 1000 miles. i have taken it to the local dealership where they updated the software, but that did not fix the issue. there is also a loud sound that comes from the engine when the engine is started. i used to only here the sound on cold engine starts, but now it makes the sound every time it is started. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that as he attempted to start the vehicle, it exhibited an abnormal grinding noise and the vehicle failed to start. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was started in cole weather. the dealer was notified but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.
Our 2008 honda accord lx (4 cylinder) has been burning oil at a rate of 1qt / 1000miles. i am the second owner of the car. a lot of other honda accord owners (2008-2010) have reported the same problem online in multiple forum: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/engine/excessive_oil_consumption.shtml my biggest concern is that the engine would stall during a long road trip across country which we've done in the past with other cars. *tr
Excessive oil consumption 1 quart every 1000 miles was told vibration was heat shield. in reality vibration was due to low oil in engine. oil was changed by dealership m by jiffy lube every 3000 to 5000 miles. now being told engine needs to be replaced or just keep adding oil till engine fails.
i hear a grinding noise when i start my car.when i accelerate i hear noise too.its not only me complain about this. almost everybody that have this kind of car.
I check my oil on a regular basis. my engine was not shifting as normal and stopped to check the oil level and after 2000 from my last oil change i had lost over 2 quarts of oil. i called my honda service department at jay honda where i bought my car and they said this was normal for my car and that there is nothing to worry about. i looked for leaks on the pavement around my car and there was none. the engine showed no signs of burning oil of any kind. the service department said this was normal for this car and that there was nothing at all that they could do.
I bought my 2008 accord used with 32k on it. honda had a great record with reliability and quality in the past so this car, i figured, would be no different. after about a month of ownership, i noticed the oil was low. i checked the oil when i bought the car and it was full, and it was now down about a half a quart. i took my car to the honda dealership and told them about the oil consumption. they topped me off, and put me on an oil consumption test. interestingly enough, there was an oil consumption recall on my car about a month later. the dealership updated the software to prevent oil consumption and i was sent on my way. about a month later, my car was still consuming oil at about a quart per 2290miles. that was the official honda tally at the end of my oil consumption test. i contacted honda through written letter and phone call saying that their recall/software update did not work and that my car was still consuming oil. american honda was unable to provide me with any documentation about what acceptable oil consumption on a car was, but in their words it was 1qt/1000 miles. no where in the bill of sale or owners manual does it say the owner will have to add oil during regular driving to keep the oil at acceptable levels. talking with both american honda and dealerships as well, they refuse to fix the problem and they are unable to provide any proof that consuming oil at this rate will not harm the car. i am currently adding about 1qt/1500miles to keep my car from running out of oil, and under the 5year 60k warranty, honda still has not fixed the problem. i have all of my receipts of repairs and routine maintenance from the dealership along with dated phone conversations to honda reps including case numbers. people need to know honda's malicious and greedy intent not to honor its warranty and fix its cars. mine still has yet to be fixed. *tr
My vehicle burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. my engine makes knocking noises when starting vehicle because of the lack of oil. it seemed to start after dealership performed recall. i have taken to dealership several times regarding this issue and they claim normal for the vehicle. *tr
Excessive need for oil, between oil changes. oil indicator does not show that vehicle is low on oil, but vehicle starts to run with problems, if oil not replaced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 75 mph, the vsa and check engine warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle began to jerk forward and shake vigorously. the contact stopped on the shoulder of the road and restarted the vehicle. the failure recurred approximately six times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician replaced the valves within the engine. the failure continued after the repairs. the vehicle was not further repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
2008 honda accord issues, spark plugs, battery light, and traction light indicator turn on and engine pulsates and stutters, door lock actuator fail before 50k in both driver door and rear driver side. brake rotors are worn down very easily and rear pad wear down faster than front with uneven wear.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that as soon as the vehicle was started it exhibited a loud, rattling noise. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the vtc actuator was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.
The engine makes a rattling sound usually on a cold start. the problem has been documented by honda and others as the vtc actuator. according to mechanical sources this could cause complete engine failure. see honda tech bulletin 09-010 for further information. *tr
2008 honda accord purchased new at gary force honda bowling green ky. first issue: cold start rattle, dealer replaced atc actuator, problem corrected. have replaced brakes on the car 4 times. most recently replaced approximately 1 year ago and now when brakes are applied the steering wheel vibrates worse than a road wagon. at 70,000 miles oil light came on, checked oil and none was on the stick. added oil, took the car to dealer, they replaced vtc actuator but it did not correct the problem. complained again and they performed oil consumption analysis only to tell me it was using less than one quart per one thousand miles and that was the industry standard. a few months later i became more irritated about the problem and complained again. they performed another oil consumption analysis to tell me it was using more than it was previously but less than one quart per 1000 miles and wouldn't do anything. currently the car has 100000 miles on it and yes, the warranty just expired and it's using one quart per 1200 miles. i wrote honda of america a letter and complained. they called but other than kind words, they did nothing. oh and have i mentioned the head lights.... they blink when the heat or air is on. i must not forget that the leather on both the arm rest and console has bubbled up but no signs of wear or damage around the bubbles. and let me not forget the most recent issue: now often times while setting completely still at a stop light and/or going down the road i hear a clicking sound in the steering column. i am not turning the steering wheel when i hear this noise. it just starts clicking, kind of like an electronic click coming from the steering column. oh what a piece of junk honda made when it built the 2008 accord. paid 30,000 for it and i'm sadly disappointed. *tr
Dealer replaced vtc actuator at 35000 miles now at 90000 miles and same rattle from vtc actuator. *tr
General concerns. however i am concerned about the airbag, engine and brakes problem especially. honda has not made us aware of any problems with this vehicle. thankfully we have only had premature replacement of brakes. we are aware of consumer complaints only because we are concerned about our product which we assume to be safe and reliable . you can rely on our qualitymaintenance program, we have been alerted by mail of a pending suit we cannot benefit from class action because we have no incident to report. honda corporate and dealers owe us consumers true and fair information and timely communications . gmc had to kill people before they were found to be irresponsible. consider this a complaint about brakes, failure to take responsibility, failure to notify, regarding other possible problems especially airbags. *tr
Purchased my accord new off the lot.1st problem came exactly 1 month later 2 sensors had to be replaced. oil light consistently stayed on i was having to change or add oil all the time. ive been to every honda dealer in san diego. mission valley finally agreed to a oil consumption test but they assured me nothing was wrong. their solution was anytime i needed oil i could stop by any honda dealership & they would be happy to top it off for me. because of this oil problem & the sensor consistently staying on the car began to lose power & shot out the timing belt. my car has been in my driveway since last july2015. after sending honda numerous letters ron from honda motor co finally contacted me. final result his recommendation was to take the car back to the dealership for another oil consumption test to be done & if theres any other problems i would have to pay out of pocket. because the car was only covered for 60,000 miles. i'm so over this car & honda. i no longer feel safe driving a honda!
My 2008 honda accord ex-l started making a small rattle noise in december 2009, the car sales man said it was because the car needed to warm up and because the car was sitting for a while. a couple years later i brought the vehicle in and had it checked, but the dealer did not hear the sound. this was not documented by the honda dealership. in june of 2012, i brought the vehicle to the dealer again after i noticed the sound more frequently. they let the vehicle sit over night and informed me the next morning that the vtc actuator needed to be replaced. at this time i had exceeded my extended warranty of 100,000 miles. the vehicle was at approximately 105,000 miles when the dealership diagnosed the problem. on october 3, 2012 my oil light flashed on and then back off. i had my father to check the oil and there was absolutely no oil in the chamber. i immediately went and purchased 3 quarts of oil until the next morning when i was able to bring the vehicle to the honda dealer. i called sterling mccall honda and explained the issue that i was experiencing and was scheduled an appointment to have to vehicle checked first thing in the morning. after speaking to the rep, i began researching the issue and found that several complaints were on the exact same issue. (the rattle at a cold start up and oil consumption issues relating the vtc actuator.) after doing more research i obtained a service bulletin about the rattle at cold start up and found a court document relating to a class action lawsuit filed in march 2012 relating to the faulty vtc actuator. the next morning october 4, 2012 i brought the vehicle in, had the oil changed and asked for a goodwill consideration. after speaking to a honda service rep about the issue he stated that he doubt the possibility of getting a goodwill consideration because of the high mileage on the vehicle. i was not assisted in getting repai. *tr

Every single day when i start up my 2008 honda accord 4 cycl. automatic from a cold start there is a horrible noise (rattle) from what sounds like the engine. the honda dealership in waldorf, md has tried to fix this problem 3 or 4 times. now they say they won't try to fix it anymore, even though the problem still exists. i've been told by honda that it is the vtc actuator and it is a defective part. til this day 5/15/15, i have not been able to get the issue resolved. the problem started about a year after i got the car. it is the only annoying and unnerving problem with my honda. why can't this issue be resolved? i found all these complaints in the honda technical service bulletin and have been fighting this issue with honda ever since. obviously honda knows about it. at cold start-up, customers may complain about a loud engine rattle that lasts for about two seconds. the probable cause is a faulty vtc (variable timing control) actuator. this applies to all 2008 accord l4 (two/four door) vehicles, 2009 accord l4 two-door vin 1hgcs19a000001 through 1hgcs19a004953, 2009 accord l4 four-door vin 1hgcp29a000001 through 1hgcp29a029528, and 2009 accord l4 four-door vin jhmcp29c000001 through jhmcp29c010096. parts information vtc actuator p/n 14310-r44-a01 vtc oil control solenoid valve o-ring p/n 15832-raa-a01
1. excessive oil consumption. 2. rear breaks require pads changed after every 15k -17k ml of driving 3. battery failed after 1 1/2 of service, about 20k mi.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord exl. while the contact started the ignition, a loud rattling noise emitted from the engine. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three different occasions for the similar failure and the vtc actuator was replaced each time. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was not available.
2008 honda accord ex-l at cold start-up, engine rattles loudly for approximately 2 seconds. after investigation and consultation with honda repair technicians, it appears the problem is with the vtc actuator and honda has issued a tsb 090-010 to address this problem.
Honda recall. my car for some reason was covered under the power transmission recall even though my car is experiencing the same problem and codes other 2008 honda accord were the same year. my oil is going faster then i can put it in. it doesn't last a whole month. i have no oil leaks in my car at all what so ever. its damaging my engine because i had no clue it was burning the oil that fast. it's not fair they only cover some 2008 honda accord. when they already were sued because if it.
I have noticed that my 2008 honda accord (vn [xxx]) has been consuming plenty of oil. after reading about the millions of complaints i decided to ask how can i get my car fixed by the local dealer. two of my friends, personal and mechanics at the honda dealer have said i should contact the corporate company and ask for the recall issue. i have also followed the instructions from the site (http://www.hondaproblems.com/trends/excessive-oil-consumption/). i hope this letter will help me with my favorite auto company. if you have any questions, please contact me at [xxx] or via email [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle was consuming a substantially abnormal amount of oil. the contact stated that he went to check the oil on several occasions and noticed that there was hardly no oil in the engine. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where they were unable to determine the failure. the dealer stated that there was a technical service bulletin for the vehicle but there was nothing wrong with the vehicle per se. the manufacturer was notified who recommended having the vehicle complete an oil consumption test. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 52,000.
