My car was leaking fluid which i was unaware. my starter went out and the dealer said that the power steering fluid was leaking so bad if i did not repair it there could be an engine fire as well as damage to the alternator. he had to replace the entire power steering pump because he said that the leak was too bad to just replace the o ring and hose. i brought my car to moss motors in lafayette, louisiana for the repair. i believe that since i only had 70,000 miles on my car that this power steering system is an obvious defect and safety hazard. *tr
The engine burns oil to an excessive degree. i have to add approximately 2+ quarts of oil every 3000 thousand miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact noticed smoked underneath the hood without warning. the vehicle was pulled into a parking lot, where an independent mechanic lifted the hood, and stated that the alternator was smoking. the vehicle was towed to moss motors (337-235-9086, located at 1407 la 728-8, lafayette, la 70501) where the technician diagnosed and replaced the alternator. prior to that failure, the same dealer replaced the steering pump and the starter in 2015 when the steering pump leaked and destroyed the starter. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and offered a forty percent discount towards the cost of the repairs. the failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The engine of my honda accord 2008 started to having the rattle and scratching sound when it reached 32000 miles. the engine also started to fail as the rattle sound gets serious. i called honda usa multiple times, but they said that they will not cover this issue because the car was made in 2008 and i'm filing this complaint in 2016. i think honda usa is trying to avoid this defect of accord 2008, since numerous people have had the same issue.
Engine rattles loudly for 2 seconds upon cold start. online searches reveal this is a known problem with the vtc actuator and a tsb has been issues (nhtsa #10087883). mechanic says could result in catastrophic engine failure if not fixed. i feel that honda should pay for this repair on my vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving 45 mph, the engine seized and the check engine and service indicators illuminated. the contact was able to drive the vehicle, but it would not accelerate over 15 mph. the vehicle was taken to bianchi honda (8430 peach st, erie, pa 16509, (814) 868-9678) where it was diagnosed that the engine piston rings needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 121,000.
On 12/22/2014, my 2008 honda accord lx (which has 98,300 miles on it) was towed into my local honda dealer. the reason for my having it towed into my local dealer was due to the fact that my engine failed while driving on a residential street drive two miles from my home. there was absolutely no indication whatsoever that my engine would fail as the check engine light did not go on, there was no oil light illuminated, etc. thus i was shocked when i was driving and tried to give the car some gas and the car did not accelerate ' thus i rolled to the side of the road and contacted a towing company. the service representative contacted me via phone and let me know that there was no compression in cylinder 2 and that i likely needed a new engine. the initial estimate would be $6,000 for a car with a blue book value of $6,500 (dealer trade in.) i have all service records and faithfully serviced my vehicle at the honda dealership. the service rep also explained that i was low on oil and i reviewed my receipts to determine that i changed my oil 2600 miles earlier. i am hoping that honda will provide goodwill to repair the vehicle as a 6 year old vehicle with 98000 miles on it should not need a new engine. *tr updated 3/10/16*js
I am complaining about the excess engine oil consumption in my 2008 honda accord. i was told i have to pay $3,200 to have this problem repaired. honda corp. said i would have to come up with $1,600 within 30 days to have the problem corrected. this is a problem honda has been aware of (according to the dealership). i recently found out about this problem. i feel i am now stuck with this vehicle and the problem. honda will not repair this problem saying they only recently became aware of the problem. now i have to constantly monitor my oil level because honda refuses to acknowledge there is a problem with all 2008 accords. *tr
I was driving home from work and just pulled through an intersection when while i was accelerating i heard a loud rattling noise. i didn't think anything of it until i heard it again. when i got home i decided to check my oil level and found that there was practically no oil on the dip stick!! i put 2qts of oil in the car and the next morning took the car in to honda service. the rep informed me that it was normal for a 2008 honda 4cyl to require a qt of oil every 1 thousand miles. really? this is not a 1975 car!! he said that this was within honda specs. maybe honda make up a story and stick with it specs but that is not normal for a newer car!! i know that there was a fix for 6cyl models but honda needs to address this issue for 4cyl models as well. my engine could have seized on me costing thousands to repair. i was told by the rep that i can have the dealership do an oil consumption test. i must bring the car back in 1000 miles. this is nonsense. go to car complaints.com and see that vehicle owners have been experiencing this issue for years. if nothing is done to correct this issue this will be the first and last honda i buy. *tr
Engine vtc actuator failure on third 3rd replacement. high oil consumption 1+ quart / 1,000 miles. *tr
I purchased this vehicle in february 2015 and the issues which i have face are: poor(worn) struts, axle(output shaft) seal leak, vtc actuator which the dealer does not want to honor the warranty defect, and poor motor mounts. in addition, the struts caused one of the tires to pop due to a bump on the tire, and the passenger front tire had to be replaced because of the bump on the tire which again is due to the struts being bad.
Recently i noticed that my engine is consuming more and more oil. i routinely get my oil changed every 3,000-5,000 miles as suggested in the manual. this last time, i was at the 2,000 mile mark when my oil light flashed; i say flashed, because the light did not stay on, rather it would go on only when i turn a corner. clearly there is an issue as a class action lawsuit has been initiated by people who had to repair this defect themselves. first, consumers should not be responsible for spending hundreds of dollars a year to maintain oil in their car due to honda's error. second, this issue can cause the engine to freeze/lock-up while operating which is a major concern while driving. i do not drive excessively either, i have a 10 minute commute to work. my car should not be burning oil this quickly. this is the second honda i have owned, my first was a 2004 and i never had issues with the oil. in fact, i would not receive a low oil notification until i was at 10,000 miles. hondas have the reputation to last a lifetime; however, if this continues, i will be forced to purchase a new car that i cannot afford due to their error and refusal to acknowledge that this is a problem. *tr
Engine uses two to three quarts of oil between oil changes. the problem started around 60,000 miles. the check oil light does not come on. the engine will knock when starting when the oil is low.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician noticed engine oil leaking onto the spark plugs. the technician stated that the spark plugs needed to be repaired. the vehicle was also taken to the dealer (meyer honda, 1268 central park dr, o'fallon, il 62269, (618) 622-0588), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the failure recurred every 30,000 miles. the manufacturer was not informed of the failure. the failure mileage was 173,000.
I purchased a used 2008 honda accord ex-l 4 cylinder. unknown at the time that these specific model cars have a history of excessive oil consumption. although a class action lawsuit covered the v-6 models the 4 cylinder models were not. after purchasing before i even put 2,000 miles on vehicle it was almost out of oil with no signs of leaking. finally took it to dealership and had oil consumption test done in august 2015. they decided the piston rings were bad. they did give me a 10% discount on the repairs. shortly afterwards i received a warranty extension for 2008-2011 honda accords for 8 years of original purchase date or 125,00 miles. when purchased it had 135,000 and at time of repair 150,000. i tried calling dealership to complain since honda new about this problem long before the extension since they issued a service bulletin 12-087, 2012. this is my second honda i have owned and probably will be the last if they do not cover my repair bill of $1727.75. it is sad that a car company that makes a faulty car to take three years to issue a warranty extension that probably has about 50% of vehicles affected that do not meet the mileage criteria. honda should issue a recall. i am a working man with a family and cannot afford to buy a new car with less than a 100,00 miles and then have a $1727.75 repair bill that i had to max a credit card out on, not to mention the extra money spent adding oil every 1,000 miles before repair was completed. if honda cares about their product they should resolve the issue not issue an extension after most of the cars are over the criteria for the warranty extension. i will be submitting my paperwork to see if they will resolve my case. i surely hope so. i will never purchase another honda after reading all the complaints and the class action lawsuit.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact also stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. in addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was restarted however the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that nhtsa campaign id number: 11v395000 (power train) was not valid. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Dear sir/madam, we have been complaining to honda motors about noise coming up first time when we start car in a day. the cranking noise is so loud that my wife and kids are worried about the car situation and feel very unsafe. the noise generally occur when we start car first time in the morning. we contacted honda motors last year and they recommended us to take it to dealership. we went to two dealership and they could not find any issue when they start car first thing in morning. this is very unusual as we have been hearing noise every single morning since than when we start car first time. we do not know how to resolve this issue? with some google search i found out that failure of vtc is causing similar issue to 2008 honda accord models. can you please guide us how to resolve this matter? we are worried about overall situation with our car for last one year. appreciate your assistance. thanks/[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I purchased this car last year and it had over 150000, as i checked the oil i noticed it was low i have added 1 qt in between every oil change. my second problem was during the winter on the real cold days the starter sounded like it was hanging up as described as the vtc actuator. my third problem is the warning light on the dash for the air bag has illuminated. i contacted honda today and they told me the light only comes on after it has been to the body shop? also i have received a claim form for a reimbursable deployment prior to feb 13 2014. i have not been in a accident and neither has the car. so if there is a claim for the air bag deployment why isn't there a recall for the air bag? *tr

I have noticed that i am in need of oil changes more frequently than in the past. historically, i went every 3,000 miles. now, i notice the vehicle gets "sluggish" around 2,200-2,500 miles. i get an oil change, and everything is usually good..... for about another 2,200 miles. the vehicle is driven daily all open highway. 2 weeks ago, i got a full service oil change from a dealer. on 5/19/14 my check engine light went on, the vsa light, and the (!) light. i immediately pulled over and checked that all hoses were interact, i could not hear any air leaks, etc. i checked the oil stick and it was essentially bone dry! (the engine was warm) no oil slicks puddles in the driveway, parking spaces, nothing! i immediately put 2 quarts in at the gas station, fresh gas, and the everything turned off! is it possible to be burning oil that quickly? i hope not! i'll be monitoring this closely. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, it would not shift into gear. the vehicle was towed to the dealer but they have not diagnosed the failure. nhtsa recall campaign number 11v395000(power train ) was related to the failure; however, dealer stated that the defect was not related to the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 79,300.
2008 honda accord. consumer writes in regards to repairs on vehicle and seeks reimbursement since vehicle still under warranty. *smd according to the invoice, the fuel and check engine light illuminated. the technician found a misfire in cylinder #5. the cylinder 5 spark plug was inspected and there was evidence of oil burning creating an ashy build-up on the plug.
The engine makes a loud knocking noise as soon as the car is started and doesn't stop. i took it to the shop and once they got inside the engine they said half of the engine wasn't getting oil. i now have to get a new engine. *tr
Summary: there was a premature failure of the srs module in my 2008 honda accord which, according to a local honda representative, renders the airbags useless in a crash or can cause premature deployment. the airbag light was on as well as the engine light which the dealership mentioned they were both related. charging a diagnostics fee when i had already performed the diagnostics through work and associated partnerships (fleet management provider and maintenance vendors). i had to pay out of pocket close to $640 for parts and labor. seems silly as this was a safety related service. my engine light was on about 4 months ago and they said the light was on due to my catalytic converter, so they replaced and now the engine light is back on and this is due to airbag issue. *tt ..updated 05-27-15 *bf
8/11:certified pre-owned purchased from honda dealer at 35787 mi oil changes: 3/15/2012: 41659mi; 9/6/2012: 48687mi 7/1/13: 54340mi-oil pressure warning light and rattling noise appears;vehicle immediately taken to suburban honda dealer (farmington hills, mi);no diagnostic codes given. only explanation was the oil level was too low and the noise disappeared when oil was filled. no explanation for suspected leak/excessive consumption despite last oil change being just 6000mi back 3/18/14:oil pressure warning light flashes once and car was not started until i made an appointment with suburban honda on 3/20/2013 3/20/14: 62450 mi- within 0.25mi of my way to dealer, the oil pressure light flashes in the middle of a signal intersection and engine fails amidst heavy traffic thereby, compromising my safety. on 1st notice(7/13), dealer completely neglected my concerns for oil leak/malfunction which led to massive engine damage (estimate $8000). negligence led to engine failure on road causing massive compromise to my safety. death could have been imminent if my car stalled on a freeway. honda has a design flaw resulting in excessive oil consumption noted by multiple customers.dealer did not recommend an oil consumption test despite oil levels reaching critical levels within 6000mi of previous oil change.i was informed accord consumes 1 quart of oil/ 1000mi and since my mileage was beyond honda limits, i'm to be held responsible. dealer mentioned that 'apology' is what they can offer and that 'no cost will be on dealer since it is not their responsibility'. official rep of american honda stated that this is purely a maintenance issue and that they do not possess ownership of dealer and have nothing to say reg irresponsibility of the official honda dealer. honda's design flaw&irresponsible dealers neglecting this issue could result in severe bodily injury or death. *tr
My car rattles severely every time i drive it. i'm so afraid to drive my car because i feel unsafe. the vtc actuator is a problem that all 2008 honda accords have and costs so much money to not fix the problem. this issue is needs to be recalled. it can cause major car failure. i'm a hard working student that can't afford to keep paying for the car to be worked on with no solution. this is a huge problem.
Engine clicks when starting, especially when cold. it sounds like oil is not getting to the engine. i believe it may be related to the vtc actuator.
2008 honda accord vtc actuator has gone bad now twice and each time i have paid out $700 +. this is all within a 12 month period. so in order to drive my car i have to pay an additional 700 a year on a newer car? *tr
I have the 2008 honda accord with the 4cyl engine and drive approximately 8 miles per day. within the last few months i have noticed significant oil loss in between oil changes. approximately 3-4 quarts needs to be added in between oil changes. there is not a leak to be found and i am not blowing smoke out of the tailpipe. upon additional research, i've found that multiple other owners of the exact same make and model vehicle are having this same issue. i've taken the vehicle to a local shop to have it looked at, but still don't have a resolve. honda just recently lost a class action suit regarding the v6 models, but still won't admit to the issue with the 4cyl model. i have had estimates anywhere from $500 on up to a complete engine overhaul, which is far more than i can afford. honda needs to take responsibility for this and fix the problem. i've owned many other honda's and this is the first i've ever seen do something like this. please help! thank you *tr
For the 2nd time since 2008, i've had to replace the sparkplugs due to pcm issues. the engine light will come on and gives an error code of p0303. unfortunately you can only go to honda to have the computer updated, and they will try to sell additional services. today they refused to update my computer stating the only way to fix was to replace all the sparkplugs despite the service bulletin stating otherwise. despite this being a manufacturer issue honda has forced car owners to pay for this repair with no true fix existing. *tr
i noticed transmission fluid leaking from my vehicle. took my car to a trusted independent mechanic, who determined and documented the fluid leak is coming from a "split-case gasket", where both case halves bolt together. his opinion was that a transmission fluid leak is highly unusual on a low mileage honda and that he suspected a defective gasket that was improperly sealed, prior to leaving the factory. made an appointment with the service department of leith honda in raleigh,n.c., where the vehicle was originally purchased, on august 29th, 2013. the torque converter seal was found to be "leaking" and it would cost$ 1993.00 to repair, which the dealer would not assume. this is historically been a long standing problem with honda vehicles, which eventually causes transmission slippage, extensive transmission damage, loss of power, causing the vehicle to suddenly stop. this potentially can lead to severe injuries and death . i consider this problem a critical safety issue, well known to the manufacturer and dealers. i am appalled and outraged by honda's lack of integrity and apparent disregard fo public safety..i am sure it is related to their "bottom line" i respectfully am requesting your agency to investigate my complaint and to review other owners complaints and horrendous experiences, on line. please force them to acknowledge these defects and make them accountable to prevent future injuries and deaths, that likely will occur to unsuspecting honda owners.
This was the second time my car accelerated for no reasons while i was driving. the first time i was only driving 35 miles an hour and no one was in front of me. the second time the car accelerated as i was stopping at a red light. i barely missed a car by one foot. both times i went to the honda dealership in sanford. long story short...no one knows how to fix it. i am extremely upset over the idea that there are all car owners with these electronic systems that don't work. the second time my three year grandson was in the back seat. the dealership said the electronic system sent a message that designated that there was an acceleration or malfunction. anyway i am sending this because i wanted my car fixed and because it is a paper trail if someone gets killed in this car. i will no longer own a honda. this was my second honda and until this i was very satisfied. i now have a car paid for that i cannot drive. i do want the public to be aware of this problem. [xxx] i don't have the vin number. my car is parted outside the dealership in sanford, n.c. waiting for me to pick it back up. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My car burns a quart of oil every 750-1000 miles. it is a 4 cylinder, and there is only a recall on the 6 cylinder cars. hondas are not supposed to do this! i have a 2002 civic, and it's engine is better than my accord. what is the problem with this? i've read a lot that this is a common problem.

Back in august i took my car to southeastern honda dealer like i routinely do to have my oil changed. it was suggested by service rep to change my transmission fluid, which i did. on my way home from work one night my engine light started flashing and my car was driving like it is going to shut off. i took my car to the dealer and they hooked it up to a machine and said it was 2 of my spark plugs, it's a common problem with the accords v6 so it's best to change all of plugs which i agreed too and this will solve the problem. on 2/7/13 i took my car to southeastern honda for my routine oil change and again the service rep suggested my power steering fluid and brake fluid needed to be changed which i agreed too. on my way home the vsa, brake light and abs light came on in the car. as so as i was able to i took it back to southeastern honda, the same service rep said they hook it up and it was the spark plugs which was change back in august and it should not be occurring because all the plugs were changed and it's a defect in the engine. he will speak with the good will honda person because the car needs an engine. he called back a couple of days later and say it's the engine and i will be required to pay half for the engine. i left my car at the dealer for a week, paid a few dollars short of $3000.00 dollars and my engine vsa, brake and abs lights is still coming on. i googled this problem and alot of the hondas have this problem. i will like to know what is the status of this problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle seized. the contact pulled over and added oil to the vehicle. the vehicle was restarted and continued to operate normally. the vehicle was taken for a software update. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000 and the current mileage 58,000.
I bought this accord used with 95,000 miles on it. when i went to change the oil after 3000 miles, it was very, very low on oil. i might have taken two quarts out, maybe less. i started watching the oil consumption, which has gotten worse. i now add about 1.5 quarts every 1000 miles. it emits no blue smoke from the exhaust and has no oil leaks. it's getting worse. after owning a very reliable 2005 civic, this car has been a complete disappointment. my honda dealer won't even return my call (i've called them 18 times) and when i go in person, they tell me they will have to consult with the manufacturer's specialist, who only stops in the dealership every 2 weeks. i've going in person to ask about this 4 times. honda has offered a horrible customer service experience thus far. *tr
Subject: sudden unintended acceleration at about 9:25 pm, on wednesday january 23, 2013 i was parked in the north parking lot of the vienna metro station, in fairfax, virginia, awaiting arrival of my wife. i had parked in the first parking space, across from the waiting area in front of the metro station entrance. when i saw my wife emerge from the entrance of the metro station, i started my car and shifted to drive. the engine suddenly revved up and the car lunged forward, accelerating at high speed and out of control. i remember reacting by applying the brakes with all my might and engaging the hand brake without much effect.the car lunged forward about 100 feet and hit a concrete barrier which smashed the front and engine and totaled the vehicle. luckily there were no other cars or pedestrians in the vicinity otherwise there would have been more severe consequences. when i regained consciousness, i had been transported to the fairfax hospital and had suffered severe trauma to the neck, throat, larynx and mouth area and was bleeding from a cut on the chin. two days of intense examination at the hospital and several follow-up medical exams found no evidence of any physical or medical condition that could have possibly contributed to the accident. it must be noted that i did not receive any citation for the accident from the fairfax police. *tr

Around december 20th, 2012 i started to notice a decline in mileage with my oil changes. it has only gotten worse from there. the car burns up so much oil at this point so quickly, i would say that at about every 1000 to 2000 miles i am putting 4qts more of oil into my engine because it has all burned up. i have also notice that my oil light never comes on during this time. the only way i know that i have no oil in my car is by checking it myself and/or when i start to hear the cylinders grind. i took my car into honda and asked them why my oil was getting burned up so quickly and they fed me a line of nonsense and told me it was because we sit in traffic so much. they basically were trying to get rid of me and tell me it was normal. after that experience i went to a jiffy lube a month later to get my oil checked again and when i brought it in they said that there was nothing in my engine that i had no oil in my car whatsoever. honda refuses to acknowledge that there is a problem with my car. even with the excessive oil use. another problem i had is with the vtc actuator and i am starting to wonder if the two are intertwined. *tr
Driving on the highway, felt a slight hesitation and then check engine light came on. immediately exited and when i came to a stop, the car was idling very rough. did research and it's very evident that this is a known issue by honda because several people have complained that cylinder #3 spark plug is so damaged that ceramic pieces are completely missing! i can't believe that there hasn't been a recall with so many incidents. i am being told that honda will not cover this as my car is no longer under warranty! this should be a recall! there is also an issue with engine oil being low but yet there are no leaks. this too appears to be a known issue. i was told at my last oil change that my oil level was extremely low but yet there were no signs of any leaks. this too should be a recall! *tr
