Problems with 2008 Honda Accord SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

On average, the 2008 Honda Accord starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC and its various aspects after 22 988 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC problems on 2008 Honda Accord

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. during a routine tire rotation he was advised to have the rear brakes replaced since they were worn out prematurely. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they would take no liability for the repairs. the dealer stated that a technical service bulletin is dated january 10, 2010 for the exact failure. no repairs were made to date. the current and failure mileages were under 25,000.

I experienced the known issue of premature brake wear with the 2008-2009 accords. i heard a horrible grinding sound so i took my car in to the shop. they said i my rear brake pads were bad. so i googled the problem and found out it is a known issue and that it is going to keep occurring every 12-15,000 miles. apparently honda switched the rear brakes to use smaller (and apparently undersized) rotors & that's why the rear brakes are wearing out so fast. my rear brake pads were placed and honda charged me 1/2 the cost but the problem is that this is going to keep happening every 12-15,000 miles.*tr

On march 25, 2009, i purchased a brand new 2008 honda accord. over the past few months, i've noticed brake noise smells, which i was sure couldn't possible be coming from my car because it was too new. when i went for my 5000 mile service check, the technician told me the brakes were showing some sign of wear, but were ok for now. i planned on having them checked again during the next oil change. on 12/29/09 when leaving work, my brakes did not stop my car on command as it usually does. i was going no more than 5 miles an hour when i stopped for oncoming traffic. i felt a dragging or scraping which told me it was time to get the brakes checked real soon. that evening, my son went on a grocery run for me. on his way home, he tried to stop for a stop sign, with the brake pedal to the floor, the car did not stop and rammed into a tree. my 9 month old accord is now totaled due the failing brakes. is honda going to compensate me for this? *tr

The back brakes of honda accord 2008 wear of so quickly that the consumer doesn't have the slightest idea about it. this premature wearout is causing unusual break distribution and almost meeting with accidents. they wear as soon as within the first 10,000 miles. i am talking of a brand new car with most highway driven miles. *tr

Took my 2008 honda accord in for an oil change and was told that my rear brake pads needed to be replaced and that the disc/drums needed to be resurfaced. my car has only 17693 miles! i was shocked. i have been told that honda has a replacement part - 43022-ta0-a51and this is the one that was put in my car. honda split the cost. if honda has a replacement part for the defective one, then they should pay for the whole thing. i do not believe that i should pay anything. there are honda owners on the road unaware that they are driving with defective rear brakes. *tr

Premature wear of brake system. original brakes lasted almost 10,000 miles, (feb 09). (dec 09)need new brakes again at a little less than 21,000. this certainly seems as a design flaw. other vehicles i have owned, including a honda, had brakes replaced at around 30,000 miles.

Rear brake pads prematurely worn out at 25,000 miles in 2008 honda accord and have to be replaced by the dealer. upon inspection, both of the inner pads are totally worn out, whereas the outer pads are ok (within normal wear & tear). this problem, if not corrected in time, will lead to failure of the rear brake system and present a safety issue since most owners (myself included) would not expect it to fail that early under normal use. *tr

Premature brake wear om 08 honda accord sedan. *tr

Back brake pads failing on 2008 honda accord at very low mileage. i began to notice a vibration at 25,000 miles. when i had the vehicle checked by the dealer, i was notified that my back brakes had deteriorated to the point that it was not safe to drive. the rotors had been damaged. the front brakes were still in excellent shape. the back brakes should never wear out before the front brakes. it is generally two pairs of front brakes for every pair of back brakes. honda acknowledged that there is a problem with the back brakes and that they were receiving hundreds of complaints. they changed the braking ratio and the rear brake pads are wearing out at an alarming pace. however, the dealer refused to replace the brake pads, even though the vehicle was still under warranty. i checked with several other individuals in my area who own the same vehicle and they had all experienced the same issue with rear brakes. one individual's rear brakes went out at 15,000 miles. the braking issue was never mentioned when i purchased the vehicle, even though honda has been aware of the problem. drivers don't anticipate rear brake issues at such low mileage. there is a great potential for injury with this problem. owners don't know they should be watching for rear brake problems at low mileage. *tr

brakes on a 2008 accord coupe wore out in the rear much earlier than expected. i found them to need replacing at 21,400 miles. brake pads were worn down and needed replaced. they are too small for the size and weight of this vehicle. this is a safety hazard that is being ignored by honda. *tr

Rear brakes had to be replaced at 22,000 miles at cost of $207.52. it is now 12,000 miles later and brakes are squealing again and will need to be replace again very soon. *tr

My rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord are prematurely worn at 30k miles. the dealer says that the brakes are not covered by the warrant. *tr

Brake pads on 2008 honda accord sedan (4-cylinder engine) needed to be replaced at 25,000 miles, which i feel is premature. the brake pads should last at least 50,000 miles. *tr

Noise from rear of 2008 honda accord, mileage 28099. took auto to dealership findings "inspected and found the rear brake pads are just below min. safety specs. dealership "installed 43022-ta0-a51 :set pad rr. *tr

I had my rear brakes replaced on my 2008 honda accord at 34000 highway miles because they were worn beyond the sensor which i never heard. i never replaced the rear brakes on my last car even after 1400,00 miles and i read on line that this is a big problem on 2008 and 2009 hondas. honda told me the rears wear faster than the fronts now and their mechanic said he often replaces them at 15,000 miles. *tr

The rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord needed replacing after 19,000 miles. when i asked the service rep at honda< i was told that this was common on this year and model. i asked do they know why? they didn't have an answer. i contacted honda national customer service in writing. they responded about 3 weeks later by phone and was told that they contacted the honda dealership, where i had my car serviced, they stated that they didn't know of any other problems. honda cutomer service, said they knew of no other complaints about rear brakes. *dt i told customer service tha ti have never replaced rear brakes on any of my previous cars before 45,000 miles and thart front brakes normally wear out 2 to 1 to rear brakes. my car had 1ml left on the rear and 9 ml left on the front brakes. i was told that under normal wear honda expects their rear brakes to last 30,000 - 40,000 miles again i asked them to explain why these brakes wore out, i was a prepared statment, saying something to the effect that they would track brake problems over the next 2-3 years and if they have a problem, will get back tome. i feel honda has a problem with wear of back brakes on 2008 accords.

2008 honda accord is on its 3rd set of brake pads and the rotors have been replaced too. only on the rear. *tr

Rear brake wear. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that while trying to unlock the vehicle, the key fob failed and would not open any of the doors on the vehicle. also, the contact experienced failures with the rear brakes. when applying the brakes, the contact would hear an abnormal squealing noise. the vehicle was inspected by the dealer and the dealer informed the contact that the key fob had a faulty part and the rear brakes were exhibiting the abnormal noise due to normal wear and tear. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

The braking system of honda accord 2008 is wearing out faster and is risking the drivers who are unaware of it. the rear braking system is the issue and honda has not taken any decision regarding this. *tr

2008 honda accord. consumer states rear brake pad problems. *tgw the dealer informed the consumer they rear pads would not to be replaced soon.

Rear brake squeaking. rear brake pads worn uneven, and premature @ 28k miles. *tr

This involves continuous brake rotor problems with my 2008 honda accord ex 6 cylinder car. at 42600 miles i complained to honda about a grinding noise when making turns. they replaced the rear pads/shoes and machined the rotors. at 61200 miles i complained to honda about scraping and clunking noises when backing up. they replaced the front pads and had to machine the front rotors because of warping. at 64200 miles i complained to honda about the same clunking noise when going in reverse and a thumping sound when braking. the tech found a right rear caliper bolt was loose. he retorqued the bolts. i'm seeing so many complaints online about the '08 accord brakes and i'm concerned this problem is going to keep occurring. i've never needed to have my rotors worked on in any car i've owned. *tr

I had to replace my rear brake pads at just under 23,000 miles. they were worn extremely unevenly on the inside only. the outside pad was not worn at all. now at just under 45,000 miles, they are in need of replacement again. same problem -- worn on the inside only. the mechanic that i go to told me that he suspects that there is something wrong with the calipers. it is unusual to see absolutely no wear on the outer brake pad and all the wear on the inner pad. the first time i had them replaced, i went to the dealer and was told that is how honda redesigned the braking system in the 2008 accord. i purchased a honda because of it's amazing reputation for reliability and am very disappointed that the brakes not working properly is not being fully investigated by honda. *tr

2008 honda accord rear brakes had to be replaced at 16,000 miles. the inside pads were down to 2 mm thickness. dealer response was that this was "normal wear". the front pads were in very good condition. total cost for the repair was $249.00. *tr

My honda accord coupe (2008) rear brake pads wear out about every 15,000 miles as it starts to make the noise from the sensors. my car is approximately 32,000 miles, 1 1/2 years old, and have changed the rear brake pads twice in contrast to the front brake pads that have never been changed. i am the only driver of the car and usually drive on highways. i complained about this on the dealer as this is very unusual. they said that honda engineers were investigating as they have been noticing a very large amount of customers with cars having this kind of issue every 15k to 20k miles. they also specified that if a recall was to be done they will refund my money. the interest thing about this is that when you hit the brakes the car has a tendency to lean to the front which would make you think that the car uses front brakes the most rather than the back ones. by opening this complain i will like raise awareness and if possible an investigation as my believe is this is not normal. each replacement will be approximately between 100 to 150 dollars. *tr

Premature and uneven rear brake disc pad wear severely reducing braking effectiveness. *tr

Early premature rear brake wear. *tr

The rear calipers on a 2008 honda accord seized up and caused premature destruction of the brake pads and damaged rotors.. this has rendered the car unsafe according to a service tech of my own and the dealership. the caliper repair will be covered under warranty but honda will not cover the cost of the damaged brakes and rotors. this problem occurred with less than 30,000 miles. *tr

2008 honda accord rear brakes. *tr

On 2008,2009 and potentially 2010 honda accords , braking distances are may longer due to the overloading of the rear brakes. this overloading of the rear brakes causes premature wearout (18,000 to 27,000 miles) of the rear brakes. due to a failure to balance the loads in the brake system, front brakes may not performing their proper braking function. this is causing the rear brakes to carry additional braking loads and wear out sooner. *tr

2008 honda accord lx-p 4 door sedan with automatic transmission..has had brake problems from day one ( purchased new at tempe honda, tempe,az)....squealing from inner pads due to uneven pressure from calipers.....honda refuses to come up with a fix....this is the 3rd set of brake pads on a 25,000 mile vehicle driven 90 percent on the open highway........huge defect.... *tr

I only have 9000 miles on my 2008 accord and my mechanic told me with in 2000 miles i will need the rear brakes replaced. i noticed i am not the only honda owner with this problem and that there are hundreds of complaints of rear brakes with premature wear. does some one have to be injured or killed before something is done. please some one has to step up to the plate and fix this serious problem with the honda accords because the honda co. sure is not going too. *tr

Honda accord (2008) rear brakes are worn to the sensor at 16,000 miles. no warning. *tr

Premature wear on bake brakes of 2008 honda accord. full replacement of back brakes at 23,000 miles. *tr

I own a 2008 honda accord. it started to make some noise in the front right side. i took it to a mechanic and he told me that it wasn't my front brakes and advise me to take it to the dealer, i did. much to my surprise they told me that i needed back brakes. i was shocked i only had 12,787 miles on my car, rear brakes generally don't go before the front ones and not especially at this low miles. i concern that it the brakes are wearing out this soon they have to be defective and i'm concern that someone is going to get hurt. lets not wait till someone dies before doing this recall. as a consumer i didn't by this car so that i can continue to pay honda for repairs every year. i was told by the manager of service that i was going to need brakes every 12,000 miles. this is unfair and i feel that honda should be responsible to repair this problem that they are fully aware of. *tr

Had to have brakes replaced at roughly 22,000 miles. the brakes started squeaking around 15,000 miles. had the car checked and was told that the car needed rear brake pads. i was told that this is a design flaw of the 2008 honda accord. very dissatisfied with honda. *tr

2008 honda accord rear brakes. pads are worn to 30% at 12000 miles. *tr

At 22,000 miles our 2008 honda accord, v6 needed new rear brake pads. honda u.s.a. was contacted by my wife and she was told this is normal wear. at this rate we will need to replace these brakes 4 more times before the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles. the dealer replaced the pads for $300 since they too claim this is normal wear and not covered under the 36,000 mile warranty. the majority of the 22,000 miles were driven between our home and my wife's work (mostly freeway miles). i looked at one web site, carcomplaints.com and there are 517 complaints regarding premature brake wear for 2008 and 2009 honda accords, with a severity rating of 7.8 out of 10. honda should recall these cars and fix the design defect that is causing this premature brake wear, and car owners should be reimbursed for premature repair work regarding this issue. because consumers are not expecting brake pad failure at such low mileage they may ignore the brake wear sensor noise or think it is something else. this could result in brake pad wear beyond safe limits. *tr

Premature wearing rear brakes. brakes have been replaced twice on my 2008 honda accord, once in march of 2009 and once in october 2009. each set of brakes lasted only approximately 16,000 miles, which were mostly highway miles. honda says they are aware of the problem but refuse to remedy the situation. *tr

Had to replace front brake pads and turn rotors at 30,000 miles of highway driving. just replaced rear brake pads and rotors at 60,000 miles with inside pad worn to metal and scraping rotors yet outside pads were virtually untouched. been driving 50,000 highway miles for years and never had to replace front brake pads before 60,000 miles or rear pads sooner than 100,000 miles. showed uneven wear on rear pads and scratched rotors jay wolff honda service manager who admitted that they have a problem with pre-mature wear on honda accord pads but said later it is just normal wear to get me to leave. *tr

2008 honda accord with 21110 miles began squealing loudly from the rear wheels. honda dealer informed me that the rear brake pads needed replacing. no warranty coverage or reimbursement was offered. front pads were still at 50% wear. rear pads should last twice as long as front pads and certainly longer than 21k miles. *tr

Rear brakes pads worn out in less than 25000 miles and at that time damaged the brake disk and weak braking occurred. the noise of the rear brakes were present from 10,000 miles and were ensured brakes were ok. *tr

Brakes for 2008 honda accord down to "squealers" with no notice at just over 24,000 miles. internet search found many, many complaints regarding this issue. took vehicle to local car dealer (honda east, cincinnati, oh). they are aware of problem but will not resolve/replace the defective brake pads unless person does all service work with them - even though car was purchased from them. car remains parked until local honda certified/independent mechanic can do repairs. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord which was purchased brand new in 2008. he stated that there was premature wear on the rear brake pads at 21,000 miles. a local automotive dealer stated that the brakes should not wear until 60 to 70,000 miles. a dealer stated that the manufacturer was investigating the issue. no repairs had been performed. the failure mileage was 21,000 and the current was 21,252. updated 11/17/09 *bf updated 11/1/8/09

Premature rear brake wear and defective tpms sensor. *tr

Rear brake pads prematurely wear on 2008 honda accord at 20,775 miles. paid nearly $200.00 for the pad replacement. *tr

Rear brakes wore out early. *tr

Considerable brake damage after 26k, had to replace drums, calipers, rotors and shoes to the tune of $546.00. 7k later, the brakes are down 25%, they were installed by a honda dealer who said tough luck, its a friction item, not covered under any warranty by honda. looks like we have to have new brakes every 15-20k and its at our expense. time for honda to step forward or for honda to learn from toyota mistakes, maybe another 16.5 million dollar fine should be up for honda also. last time we buy this piece of garbage. signed - a former honda customer!!! *tr

Brakes are defective on the 2008 & 2009 accord. my rear brakes & rotors were replaced at approximately 14,100 miles, approximately 1 year ago prior to a class action lawsuit filed against honda for the defective brakes. according to honda the new material (brakes are to be released mid june 2010. i contacted honda (see case #[xxx]) i advised them that i wanted the new brakes put on the vehicle as the earlier brake shoes appear to be defective. they advised that i would have to pay for that. there is written documentation available that states the brakes are bad and there is a new procedure to put the brake pads on. as that documentation was not available when my brakes were replaced i now still have the defective brake pads that have not been installed according to the new procedure. i would also note that at 17,500 miles my front shoes are almost completely worn also. this is a serious situation which can lead to brake failure resulting in a serious accident. i would asks you to look at ww.carcomplaints.com for further documentation my hyperlink is http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml and is complaint #836. i would also refer you to this link which explains the details further http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2050392. in short this is an extremely serious problem that honda has until this point apparently covered up. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
