Premature rear brake wear. rear brakes went metal on metal on rotors. three month prior nys vehicle inspection performed and found not problems. honda dealer pulled wheels to inspect brakes and found no problems. dealer would write down on invoice if brakes were marginal and inform customer. driving performed was mostly long distance thruway driving. *tr
2008 honda accord needed rear brakes replaced at 33,152 miles. never had rear brakes bad before front brakes. (owned 14 new cars) more than 20,000 miles are highway, so don't understand the wear. am not a heavy brake user - i maintain good distance, coast before braking slowly. *tr
I have had 3 rear brake jobs on my 2008 honda accord with 46,447 miles which is only 15,482 miles per each set of pads. at $209 per repair that is $627. *tr
Premature brake wear on 2008 honda accord. brought my car (34,000 miles) to my mechanic for an oil change and tire rotation and was told my rear brakes were down to medal. i do primarily long distance driving. considering there are so many complaints on this and honda is offering a $125.00 rebate back for premature break wear, shouldn't there be a recall? this is a safety hazard. *tr
Scrapping metal sound in rear of car. had to have rear brake pads replaced. was informed around 26k miles that the brakes were less than 25% and had to replace them 5k miles later. *tr
At 27894 miles, my 2008 honda accord ex-l's rear brakes were "completely gone" according to service tech's. i was advised that it was not safe for me drive one more week with the brakes in this condition. *tr
My honda rear brake pads were prematurely worn out . in last 2 and a half year i had less than 29,000 miles on the car. however rear brake pads were worn out and i could hear huge grinding noise from the back . i went to the honda dealer and have them replace the brake pads. however, it cost me $218.15 usd and lot of agony and issues while driving car. *tr
Improper braking system in 2008 honda accord led to the rear brake pads failing prematurely at 32,000 on a mainly highway miles driven car. the rear brake pads were replaced at owner's expense and 70% remained on front pads. experienced shaking when stopping at approximately 33,000 miles and was told that the front and rear rotors needed to be turned. it appears that something is faulty with the braking system and the dealership and honda is trying to place blame on the consumer but most cars don't need these things replaced and the sequence that things are failing is pointing to a major defect. you can replace all day, but no one is revealing or fixing the real problem. *tr
2008 honda accord rear brake failure. *tr
I have only 23,000 miles on my car and the rear brakes are failing on my 2008 honda accord. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 55 mph he heard a loud grinding noise near the right rear brakes when they were engaged. the contact was able to continue driving to his residence. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced both rear rotors and brake pads. the failure mileage was 16,760 and the current mileage was 16,810.
Hello, i have a 2008 accord lx, this is the 4th accord i have owned. my concern is with the rear brakes. i am on my 3rd set of rear brake pads and the car has 37,385 mi on it. the front ones have not been changed yet and they are the primary pads to stop with. i took it to the dealer at 19000 mi and after a long debate they replaced the back pads at no charge.i just replaced them for a 2nd time at 37,000 mi. i noticed that the piston on the rear caliper screws out when its used for braking. every other caliper i have worked with when you push on the brakes the piston pushes on the rotor then releases. the piston on this accord screws out but does not screw back in causing the brakes pad to have great constant presure on the rotor. i as the dealer about it and they said there is no recall. either way the breaks should not have to be replaced every 19,000 miles especially if they are the rear brakes the front brake have not been replaced yet and still have plent of life left in the pad. in closing i want to let you know that this is not proper and to as if there is a recall or design change be made to this produce. *tr
08 honda accord rear brakes started squealing at 28,000 miles. dealer said pads were a honda problem and were 'soft' and dealer replaced them. i was concerned about the front brake pads because of problem with rear, and dealer said the front pads were fine. then about 33,000 miles i started to get a shimmy in the front when i braked at highway speed (over 55 mph). it wasn't too bad at first, but progressively got worse. when the front started to pull to the left when i braked coming off the interstate, i told the service manager at the dealership and he said it's probably a warped rotor. plus, the service manager said there had been other complaints. he said he would machine the front rotors, but i would have to pay for it. the cost is way beyond my budget. i have nearly 39,000 miles on the brakes and the shimmy is a major shake when i brake at highway speed and at low speeds it feels like i'm driving on rocks when i brake, although i'll be on a smooth service. the pull to the left coming off the interstate is so wrong for a 2008 car. i had it aligned twice just in case that was the problem, but i was assured the alignment was good, but the rotors were not. this was from a highly experienced mechanic not employed by honda. he also said he had talked to a number of owners of honda accords of the 2008 or later model year and they had the same problem with brake rotors warping. that's the events leading up to the problem. the brake rotor failure occurs every mile i drive and the consequences are it takes much more stopping distance when i apply the brakes, and if it's wet, even more stopping distance to safely operate the vehicle. nothing has been done to correct the failure. honda says it must be the way i brake, although most of my driving is on the interstate. i found out from other honda accord owners that have had the rotors turned that they have to do it again in 15,000 miles. this is a major safety issue, and honda needs to recall accords and fix them. *tr
The brakes on my 2008 honda accord have worn out twice prematurely ,the last time my rotors were gone and needed replacement almost $400 dollars at first the dealer service unit said it was normal. later upon making a lot of disturbance at dealership with the manager of service he admitted there was a known problem. he said pay and submit to honda for refund. i called honda and they said to wait since a class action suit had been filed and no refund would be given at this time. *tr
I was told my rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord have worn down and need to be replaced soon. i have had the car for slightly less than 2 years and only have 23,342 miles on it. i purchased a new car form honda so this was not a used car. given the low amount of miles over this time period these brake pads have worn out faster than they should have especially since i have put much less than 15,000 miles per year on this vehicle. i have not replaced the parts yet as i just found out about it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while the vehicle was being serviced at an authorized dealer, the mechanic advised her that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. the contact stated that she made an appointment for routine maintenance; however, the dealer cut the rotor and replaced the brake pedals. the approximate failure mileage was 35,266 and the current mileage was 35,269. updated 09/22/10. *lj
At roughly 6,000 miles, my 2008 honda accord began making high-pitched noises (which came from the rear of the car). i brought it into my dealership and they stated, "we could not replicate the noise that you heard." so i continued to drive it. at 22,000 miles, i had to replace my rear brake pads due to uneven ware. the driver side rear pads were okay, however, the passenger side pads showed uneven ware. the inside pad was completely gone. discussed what i had found with my new accord with dealership. they stated that my car was still under warranty, but because it was a brake pad issue, it was considered "normal" ware and tare... they wanted close to $300.00 for repair. i purchased new pads from napa auto parts and installed myself. i have my old pads as evidence and all receipts from bringing my car to the dealership (which they were unable replicate the problem). however, after further investigation online, this defect is surfacing all over the united states (carcomplaints, com, edmunds, etc.) this is a serious issue that is not being addressed and injuries will occur or worse if this is not rectified. *tr
2008 honda accord, took it to another honda dealer and they stated in writting that the brakes were put on wrong by the previous dealer (steve jones honda of aberdeen 910-6921-2111). i contacted honda corp, because steve jones told me to take a flying leap and contact them and get involved with the class action lawsuit, can not because it was there shotty work. please assist in this situation. formal complaint with honda corp is numbered [xxx] . please retrieve my information soon because getting ready to be deployed back to afghanistan. thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr
Rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord full deterioration at 26k - 29k miles. brakes making scraping & high pitched grinding noises. did research online and found class action lawsuit against american honda for faulty warning brakes on 2008 - 2010 honda accords & acura tsx models. see this site for lawsuit info: http://www.girardgibbs.com/hondabrakes.asp and http://accordsettlement.com/index.htm american honda is hiding behind this settlement to make you think they are doing something about the issue. but honda dealers continue to install the older unreliable brake pads. american honda has a toyota like major failure waiting to happen. what will it take to get american honda to do a recall on this? i've owned or leased over 10 honda's since 1987. if american honda is not willing to face the real facts on this issue and perform a recall, then they leave no choice but to switch automobile brands. i'm assuming they are taking the stance of "do not fix it until it breaks" approach. come on american honda, this is your wake up call. have you not learned anything from toyota's after the fact recalls??? *tr
My 2008 accord ex has abnormal brake wear. at about 25,000 miles, we had to replace the rear brake pads. the wear was extremely uneven, and one side of the brake was worn before the other. the brakes wear out every time at about 25,000 miles, and the sensors go off much too early, at about 15,000 miles. to correct the failure, we replaced the rear brake pads, but it does not fix the abnormal wear. the brakes are also overheating extremely quickly, which is contributing to the abnormal wear. *tr
I have 2008 honda accord which i purchased it new in 2007. i changed the back brakes after 12,000mile and i took it to service dealer after 6500 mile for oil change and they told me i need new back brake again(this is after changing the brake 6,500 mile ago). i received the letter from honda company that there was the defect and it was fixed and they pay for my last brake change. now i have a problem with brake and the problem was not fixed. do you have any recommendation or suggestion in regards to this problem. thank you! *tr
Rear brakes worn out and making very loud noise. *tr
Rear brakes were replaced after 20,000 on 2008 honda accord. honda service indicated that 2008 model year change modified when rear brakes engage at stopping. 2008 accords engage the rear brakes a fraction of second prior to front brakes preventing front dipping. this was done without enlarging the caliper/pad/rotor dimensions/capacity. *tr
Left rear tire starts making loud squeaking hissing whenever the brakes are applied. the car brakes do not respond fast enough. *tr
Premature failure of rear brake pads. *tr
Rear brake pad wear which ruined the rotors at 21,000. i replaced and repaired the brakes only to have the same problem recur at 42,000 miles. i have not had to replace the front pads yet. this is clearly a safety issue although honda doesn't seem to agree nor have they fixed the quality of the pads. they continue to put the same defective pads on the cars. i cannot believe a recall has not been required. toyota had to recall their cars when they accelerated when they shouldn't. honda should recall their cars for not stopping when they should. defective brakes should always be considered a safety issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owned a 2008 honda accord. the contact was driving at 65 mph when the left rear wheel locked up, causing the vehicle to skid. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the caliper had locked up. the dealer also stated that there was a class action lawsuit for the brake pads but not the calipers. the current and failure mileages were 37,873.
Honda accord 2008 has a brake problem (rear) pads simply disintegrate at 28,000 miles. call to manufacturer honda on the telephone the representative confirmed a class action law suit but did not offer any solution like honda to fix the problem. no action was deemed necessary as it was not safety related. from when did not able to stop your car become a non safety related problem. my other car is a toyota and they did all in their power rectify the defects and pay a fine. nhtsa definitely needs to bring honda down to reality and check on the numerous problems related to brakes. brakes are definitely safety related and any outside chance that they fail should be a major safety violation. please enforce the rules on honda and acura. they have a very secretive and defensive attitude. if they had paid for the brake service i wouldn't be writing to you. *tr
I bought a new 2008 honda accord in august 2008. i took it in to be serviced today for routine maintenance to the cramer honda of venice. my accord has 29,000 miles. i was told by ron, in the service department, that i had to replace my rear brakes immediately. they are not covered under warranty or recall. i was told my brakes were really, really, bad. i was told honda accord has defective rear brakes. honda is aware of this problem but is not correcting it under warranty or recall because it has a class action lawsuit filed against them. i was told driving with these brakes could be deadly. they advised me i have to pay to have my brakes be replaced immediately. i have never had to replace brakes at 29, 000 miles. honda told me the accord brakes are defective. honda knows there is a risk with these brakes and have failed to correct such a problem. i have not been notified by honda of such danger. why won't honda recall/replace their defective brakes when the risk of not doing so is deadly. *tr
2008 honda accord had rear brakes completely worn down to the sensor at 18,000 miles. received information in mail from law firm that honda acknowledged issue in a class action lawsuit and will reimburse up to $150 in repair costs. this does not fix the safety issue of burning through a set of brake pads in under 20,000 miles as well as the repeated trips to the service department and inconvenience. sounds like a major problem that should be investigated. *tr
My honda rear brakes were not working properly. i had difficulty stopping my 2008 honda accord. i had my brakes replaced at cramer honda of venice on 05/27/10. i was told about honda brake recall. i was also told that the new brakes i had installed in may 2010 for would last for at least 80,000, i was paying for the improved brakes. well close to 40,000 miles later the "new improved brakes" are causing the same safety problems, difficulty in stopping. on 3/14/12, i was told by the by the honda service employee that when honda redesigned their brakes, for a smoother stop, they did not redesign the brake pad, causing them to wear much quicker and causing concerns. i bought honda for safety for my 3 young children. i feel the 2008 honda accord brakes still create a serious safety and liability concern. how many other honda accord owners are facing the same safety concerns? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while having the vehicle inspected by the dealership, the contact was informed that the rear brakes on her vehicle were more than 90% worn and needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were approximately 26,000.
I purchased a 2008 honda accord lx, 3.2l in august of 2008. it currently has 22676 miles and i had to replace the rear brakes last week. i began hearing a squeaking noise the week before and took the car to my local honda service center. they informed me that the rear brakes were completely worn. i questioned the brake wear because of the low miles on my vehicle and the fact that it is a front wheel drive car. honda stated that they are aware the brakes are an issue, however it will not be covered under warranty. *tr
Rear brakes failed at 16,000 miles and 48,000 miles after replacing the original brakes with ceramics on 2008 honda accord, premature wear. *tr
Premature rear brake pad wear, at under 23,000 we had to replace the rear brake pads because we were told they we worn out and not covered by warranty, after checking i found out this is an issue with the 2008 accords and there is suppose to be a fix for this with new v springs asked the dealer about this and they said they could not do this repair or change. *tr
I drive a 2008 honda accord ex-l v6. i have had to have the rear brake pads and rotors replaced at 23,364 miles. the rear brakes wore extremely premature for any car i have owned. online forums and complaint websites show the same occurrences for the same make/model/year. upon calling honda to complain, they do not wish to recall the problem, nor are they willing to refund me the $221.30 that i had to pay to make my car safe to drive. honda said on the phone that they were aware of the problem and were yet to make a recall/reimbursement for the fault. i believe that honda had a reputation that exceeded many manufactures and thus i purchased a honda. this problem is unacceptable and unfortunate. luckily i was able to have the problem fixed and was capable of paying for it. i would hate to see this be a problem that is unresolved and would be capable of causing someone else physical harm/death in brakes not working properly. i have never owned a car that has needed this sort of repair and have driven 4 other vehicles with at least 70,000+ miles on them. *tr
My 2008 honda accord has 21000 miles on the odometer but the rear brakes have already worn out. while doing some research online i have discovered this issue is common to this vehicle. *tr
Premature rear brake pad wear-out on 2008 honda accord. rear brakes replaced at 25,000 miles. uneven wear between inner and outer rear brake pads. *tr
I bought my used 2008 honda accord ex in march 2010 when the mileage was 18000. in 2 months, at 23000, i started to hear screeching sounds coming out of the rear tires when i pressed the brakes. slowly, this problem started to worsen and the noise started to become more louder and it was sounding as metal with metal. this happened both when car was traveling at 40-50 mph and also when braking. this occurs all the time during the day. initially it starts off as no noise but after 10 minutes at low speeds the noise starts to crackle and its very embarrassing especially when braking at the lights and at stop and go traffic. i took this to the mechanic and he said that the rear brakes have worn out and needs to be replaced. he changed the rear brake pads, brakes, motor and also flushed out the brake fluid. in total this cost me $700 including the labor. when i bought my honda, i looked at the reliability of the car and with such low mileage i did not expect it to give me any issues. alas within just 3 months i have had to spend a fortune on the car. *tr
I own a 08 honda accord. when i put in reverse a horrible screeching noise started. it would continue when i would brake also. i took it to a local shop to look at it. i only have 30k miles so figured something minor. they said it was the rear brake pads! front ones were never replaced and in good condition. 200.00 for new brake pads. called the local honda dealer they said 250. i have done nothing further. *tr
My 2008 honda accord exl has 60,000 miles on it and i have just had to replace the rear brakes for the second time. once at 35,000 once at 60,000. i have been told by three different honda managers that honda knows about this problem and refuses to do anything about it. the problem is that the design of the spring that is supposed to separate the pads after braking does not push the pads far enough to clear the rotors. this not only wears the pads much too quickly but also makes the engine work harder and hinders the gas mileage. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle was exhibiting a grinding noise when the brake was depressed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the failure was located as the rear brake pads wearing prematurely. the dealer replaced the brake pads twice, but the failure was not corrected. the rear brake continued to make a grinding noise and wear prematurely. the contact also stated that the front brakes were exhibiting a grinding noise, but the dealer polished and scraped the front brake pads and the grinding noise was corrected. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 28,096, and the current mileage was 42,920.
My 2008 honda accord sedan with 15,000 miles (4 cyl, 5 sp manual, vin# [xxx]) was at the service at the boch honda for oil change. during the service it was discovered that rear pads and rotors were worn out completely. 0% of life left on both sides. honda of america acknowledges that there is a problem and will pay only first $150 of the repair. repair cost is $463. however, honda is paying 100% of the repair if car has less than 12,000 miles. please investigate and advise. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)*tr
I am an owner of a 2008 honda accord ex v6 with 26k miles. the rear brake pads on this vehicle wear prematurely. i contacted both the dealer and american honda corporation both of which told me that this was normal wear and tear and that in order to fix the brakes i would be responsible for the replacement cost. the cost itself is not my concern even though i did pay additional out of pocket expense to have the "platinum" warranty program. my concern is that this is a safety issue and being the mother of 2 young small children it is not acceptable that honda is not standing behind the safety of their vehicles. properly functioning brakes is not a amenity as they are treating it. the internet is plethered with individuals who are in the same position as i. these vehicles should be recalled and the proper brake pads should be applied. *tr
I have a 2008 honda accord w/ 23k miles on it. i've been told by boch honda that the rear brakes are 80% gone and honda will only pay half. obviously, there is a safety problem and honda needs to address this problem and take full responsibility. also the front disc brakes were replaced at 11k and 19k. something is wrong. this is not normal. please advise. updated ivoq 05/26/10.*jb
2008 honda accord rear brakes i just spend a little less than $500 replacing my rear brakes and rotors on my 2008 accord. it is a new car and the brakes should be lasting a lot longer. *tr
Initial rear brake squealing after over night setting or use to parking lots, squeal would occur in reverse direction braking, as if brake was dragging. as time progressed a metal to metal sound was noted as if some metal part had come loose and would drag or rub in slight directional pressure changes. applying brakes would temporarily silence , but would return when brakes were released. a slight pulling sensation was noted to either right or left along with a vibration when applying brakes. rear brake rotors were resurfaced and pads replaced at a cost of $214.00 parts and labor. additionally, front brake rotors were resurfaced and pads replaced at a cost of $133.00 parts and labor. *tr
Honda accord 2008 model shows premature brake wear out on rear brakes. my car is at 29,000 miles, and the brake pads are gone, even wearing out the metal. i heard some intermittent squeaking noise from a couple months back, but when i brought the car into service, they said they couldn't hear any sound (i couldn't too during the test drive) and it would be better to just leave the car alone then start disassembling the car when there might be nothing wrong. they also said that a compound of moist and dust could make the squeaking noise occasionally. a few months later, the rear side started making a rumbling sound when i hit the breaks. i brought the car back to the service center, and the said the brake pads were gone leaving metal to metal contact for the brakes. they said there was a sensor that broke but how could i know the squeaking sound was indicating to replace the brake pads even when the service guy didn't pick it up? they say i have to pay just under $500 to replace everything that was damaged in the brakes, and no warranty would cover it. i don't think this is a one-time thing, and i found a ton of similar complaints in the internet. it's also weird that the front brake pads were fine, when they are usually known to brake earlier. this is a brake problem, which could potentially lead to serious accidents. *tr
The rear brakes on my 2008 honda accord are wearing out far faster than seems reasonable. honda's solution to this problem is to simply say it's normal brake wear on the vehicle and then require that the rotors be turned and the brake pads be replaced, after charging an absurd diagnostic fee. *tr
Premature rear brake failure i purchased a new 2008 honda accord v6 automatic transmission coupe on 8/2/08. i had the car serviced on 4/8/10 to change the oil, rotate tires, and a brake inspection. on this date, the car has 17,420 miles on it. the dealer informed me that the rear brakes had reached their service limit and had to be replaced immediately. the dealer reported that the front brakes did not need replacing and had "9.0mm to sensor" remaining. the total cost of rear brake replacement after a 15% parts and labor discount was applied was $229.46. i was shocked because i have never driven the car in a manner that would warrant premature brake failure. on my previous 1999 honda accord coupe, i did not have to replace the brakes until 65k miles. the dealer explained that honda is aware of the problem and that honda had issued a technical service bulletin for the rear brakes. i contacted honda customer service by calling 1-800-999-1009 and was told that no technical service bulletin has been issued for rear brake problems. i was given a reference number and was advised that a honda representative would be in contact with me within 2 business days. by chance, i found an article in u.s. news and reports dated april 8, 2010 "honda settles lawsuit over accord brakes." the article states that the brakes of 750k late models of accord and acura tsx are wearing out twice as fast as they should. the article also states that the nhtsa has received 350 owner complaints to date. there is no mention that the root cause of the premature brake failure has been addressed. i am requesting that the nhtsa investigate to determine if this is a brake distribution issue, design defect, poor quality, or any combination of the above. i am deeply concerned about the safety of this vehicle. *tr
