Transmission stutters in between 1st and 2nd gears on decelleration and acceleration. transmission seems to overheat. anticipate failure due to this anomoly. do not want to experience a lock up or loss of control of vehicle. *tt

Honda accord 2005 v6 under 25,000 miles suddenly started having problems with the automatic transmission which finally failed on may 2011 while driving on the highway. a complete automatic transmission overhaul and torque converter change were performed at a honda dealer at a cost of over $2600. new transmission felt great during the first 3 months (even though it torque converter started leaking oil and i had to take it to the dealer for repair) but recently i have notice abrupt delays (slow down) while shifting gears, like its is pulling you back and strange kicks while shifting. car accelerates slower as well and does not react as quickly or smoothly as new. i took the car to the same honda dealer and they say nothing is wrong with the transmission. *tr

Car shutters between 35mph and 40mph and has lost transmission fluid. its problems are exactly like those in a prior class action suit against honda. they haven't fixed the problem. a recall was received for a software update for the transmission, i think they are just trying to see how many they have out there doing what they have already been sued for. after the software update nothing changed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate any further. the vehicle rolled to a stop and was towed to an authorized dealer. the contact was informed that the transmission failed and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 90,000.

Our 2005 honda accord v6 suddenly stopped accelerating and behaved like it was on neutral. the engine revved but the car would not move forward. i had to stop the car in the middle of the road and put my hazards on. after a few minutes i started the engine again. when i put the car in drive there was a grinding noise and i felt the car go into gear a few seconds later. when i accelerated the car started to move slowly forward and a whirring noise came from the engine. i had to stop and start the car 3-4 times on the remaining 3 mile drive home. i took it into a honda repair shop. we contacted honda corporate and they have offered to pay 75% of the cost of repair which is estimated at $5000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while driving approximately 55-60 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate independently and then shifted back into gear. the contact stated that the failure had been on-going since february 2011. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and then to a dealer where both confirmed that the transmission would need to be replaced. the contact authorized the dealer to replace the transmission. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered to pay half of the repair costs. the failure mileage was 61,000 and the current mileage was 61,888. updated 4/25/11 *cn updated 08/22/11

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle would make a loud noise when shifting into drive or reverse. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.

I drive a 2005 honda accord, we noticed that the transmission fluid was low so we added honda transmission fluid. that's when the cars rpms shot up and i wasn't hardly moving. honda said do a 9 quart flush, which we did. for a day or two things seemed better, then it was far worse than before with the rpms at 6,000 and i'm only going 30. hoping it was a problem with a censor, we took it to honda, they tell me don't worry it'll be fine. hour later they call and say your transmission is shot. now they tell me i can trade it in, or get a new one for $3800. i say i'm taking it elsewhere, to another trans shop, who asks me which honda i called about he's had 3 calls that morning and has 2 waiting to be fixed. he says honda trans are poorly designed in that first the filter is hard to get to and that there is a very small hole for fluid to get through and that once clogged with no fluid the trans fails. now he's rebuilding it and our supposed trusty honda is going to cost us $2400 of which we do not just have sitting around. i hope that there will be a recall, this is truly awful of honda a name i trusted in, but, now would never recommended to anyone. *tr

Initially when putting car in reverse it would not engage going into a forward gear once stopped. then upon entering highway the engine just revved and car lost speed almost causing me to be rear-ended at high speed because car would not drive. end result was torque converter was faulty and caused transmission to burn fluid and gears to shred. car was towed to hawley's auto repair on shaker road east longmeadow, ma on 12/20 where it was rendered fully un-drivable as transmission completely failed. honda was contacted but stated they would not cover the repair even though it is a known frequent failure. *tr

While driving my 2005 honda accord v6 on the highway it slipped out of gear and violently down shifted to 2nd gear almost causing an accident! thank god the driver behind me was aware or it could have been fatal. from that day the transmission kept doing the same thing. the car has 95k. honda has refused to take any responsibility for the failure!! this also happened to my 2002 accord!! something needs to be done before people get hurt! you would think honda of all car makers would stand behind what they make...but they don't...time to think about another car to by in the future! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle would rev when accelerated but would not move forward. the contact was able to restart by shutting the vehicle off and on again. the vehicle was inspected by the dealer who informed the contact that he needed to replace the transmission. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 43,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while parked, the contact started the ignition while depressing the brake pedal and the vehicle jerked forward independently. the failure recurred intermittently when the gear shifter was placed in reverse or drive. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics and the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000. updated 11/01/11*lj the consumer stated on a cold start, with his foot on the brake, after the transmission was put into gear, there was a momentary pause before the engine revved. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for a transmission software recall. updated 11/30/11

As accelerating the vehicle a hard jerk happens while shifting gears from 1 to 2nd gear. the rpms go extremely high even if you accelerate the car gently and once you let go the car takes a couple of seconds to drop the rpms and you feel the jerk and then the thump. if i need to brake suddenly the car makes like a thump sound and the transmission feels and sound abnormal. this only occurs when you first accelerate the car and you're going from first to second gear. it doesn't happen on any other gears. i haven't felt this in any other car. this incident with the gear change happens always with the car, in the mornings, at an signal intersection, and/or leaving any place. it also occurs recurrently. *tr

There is a rumble noise that happens at 25, 40, & 55 mph. it doesn't happen consistently and so it has taken me 2 years to finally get an answer to the problem. it appears to be the transmission. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v395000 (power train: automatic transmission) performed, but the transmission continued to slip and jerk while changing gears. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 149,467.

I have a 2005 honda accord v6, 85k miles. it happened all of a sudden (no computer warning) and it was in a serious situation (on the highway traveling between cities). the gears slipped and out of nowhere i'm drifting without any gear traction. i pulled over to the side of the road, turned it off, waited 20 minutes and then started it back up only to put it in drive and the car went in reverse! now they say its a transmission problem. how can a car of less than 5yrs have this issue? and a lot of people have complained about this issue to honda, only to claim there is no defects.. here is a url of complains you see from people about the same issue on transmission. http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2008/05/honda-owners-fo.html. *tr

2005 honda accord v6 ex sedan. while entering the freeway the car fell out of gear and then i had to quickly pull off (nearly getting hit by merging cars) and call the highway patrol to block oncoming traffic from hitting me as i did not have enough momentum to get out of the far right lane completely. towed car to honda dealership which resulted in them telling me i had a failed transmission. a failed transmission with 52,300 miles on the car. transmission and oil change was just done so why this failed leaves me shaking my head. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while the contact was driving approximately 50 mph in heavy traffic, there was an excessive increase in engine rpms. the brake pedal was engaged and the vehicle lunged forward and failed to stop. when the gear was shifted into the park position the vehicle was able to stop. the gear selector would not shift out of the park position, and the ignition key would not turn or release from the ignition. the police was at the scene and he was able to shift into the drive range after several attempts. the ignition key suddenly turned and the vehicle was able to resume normally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician was unable to duplicate the problem. the computerized system was updated. the failure occurred on a separate occasion. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 29,788. updated 11/03/10. *lj updated 12/7/10 *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord sedan. while driving 2-3 mph attempting a left turn, the vehicle exhibited an abnormal noise just before stalling without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where he was advised that the front passenger side axle was fractured and the driver side axle was also damaged. the dealer replaced both front axles. the contact called the manufacturer but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 141,000. the vin was not available.

2005 honda accord ex-v6 auto-transmission gave out at 50mph. luckily it was the middle of the night and there were no other vehicles on the road but had their been someone behind me it would have been bad. the vehicle slipped 5th, 4th, and 3rd gear then slowed to a stop. the only reason i am bothering to file this complaint is that i have done some research online and have found that many other people which this same car have had similar problems (10 similar reports on carcomplaints.com since jan. 2009 alone). i am in luck because i have an extended warranty and it should be covered. it is currently at the dealership for repair. *tr

Without warning my automatic transmission completely failed getting off the freeway today. when i went to make a right hand turn at the end of the ramp, the car wouldn't shift any higher than 2nd gear, couldn't increase speed to avoid oncoming cars, had no power. i was able to pull to the curb to avoid being hit. transmission needs to be replaced. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would not shift gears and suddenly stalled. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was being repaired when the complaint was filed. the current and failure mileages were approximately 33,000.

Vehicle rolled backwards into the adjacent street while the transmission was in park on several occasions. updated 05/06/11 *bf *tr

My 2005 honda accord ex-l v6 (2 door) suffered a sudden catastrophic transmission failure while cruising at 70 mph resulting in a near accident. i could not accelerate and the vehicle would not downshift into any other gear. i was nearly hit by vehicles following me and had to merge across traffic into the emergency lane where i "coasted" down an offramp. the vehicle has been properly maintained to the standards listed in the owners manual. the transmission has been serviced twice in 96,000 miles which exceeds the standards in the owners manual. the owners manual also specifies only genuine honda transmission fluid which was used on both transmission services. the vehicle has been diagnosed with a total failure of the transmission, and there were no warning signs at all (slipping gears, grinding, etc.). if the incident happened in a different location (crossing an intersection, more cars in traffic, on a wider highway) it is very likely that i would have been struck by another vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated that the transmission was slipping. while driving 40 mph the transmission failed and the vehicle would not shift into gear. she had to drive onto the emergency lane. the vehicle was inoperable and had to be towed to an auto shop. a mechanic stated that transmission needed to be replaced. the honda manufacturer was notified and a claim was filed. contact file a claim and they should be giving her a call back. the failure mileage was 59,000.

2005 honda accord lx (4dr, 4 cyl) shakes/shudders very badly when trying to accelerate between the speeds of 55 and 65 mph. this is very dangerous while merging on freeway. dealer says transmission needs to be replaced. the vehicle has only 46 k miles. there is a possibility that the car will suddenly stop causing a crash. the same problem has been reported for 2003 and 2004 honda accords too. *tr

The accelerator stuck and the engine kept revving at a high speed. when the brakes were pressed it barely slowed down. was able to stop the car at a fast food establishment. it continued to rev when the gear was placed in "park." the car was turned off and then restarted, and the engine was still revving at a high speed. a tow truck took it to the honda place and they could find nothing wrong. evidently the tow truck driver moved the pedal around and the dealer said he should not have done that. *tr

2005 honda accord. consumer request full reimbursement in regards to recall repairs *tgw the consumer stated the transmission was making a bad whining sound. the dealer replaced the transmission and torque converter. *jb

Transmission failure on 2005 honda accord with 75k. it went out all of a sudden, almost causing an accident. *tr

Problem with my honda accord 2006 v-6 automatic the problem is the transmission is fail the 3 gear with sound strange and the oil transmission smell like oil burn and some smoke comes out of the oil. my car visit my honda service every 3 month to change oil motor and filter....and change oil transmission. *tr

Because of the great reputation of honda vehicles, i and my husband decided to buy a honda accord ex car 2005 two years ago. we have never had any problems with it until last tuesday, when i was driving back to home when the engine stalled suddenly, after about two minutes i turn it on and it seemed fine while i was driving for less than a mile to get home. two hours later on i and my husband were getting off he took the keys to drive the car and i did not tell him about the incident i simply totally forgot because i did think it was a problem and i did not expect to be a problem, so we got off we got in the car he tried start the car and it jerked hard and it wont start he tried again and we drove it but the car was cranking and it jerked hard and slowed down and it stopped and it did the same thing he was decreasing the speed. our car is 74,000 miles we took it to a mechanic at honda dealership and he said the transmission is failing a way he never seen before he checked and there are no recalls for that problem so to we need to get a new transmission and replace the axles as well which is going to cost us around 4000 dollars i don't think this is fair i believe in my hearth it's a manufacture problem and it should be a recall i did a lot researches and a lot of people they have the same problem. please do your investigation we can not afford to fix the car we did not do anything wrong to this car but driving it to work and keep it maintenance till it start to act up we are leasing a car now to go to work to product please help us. *tr

I was driving on interstate in my 2005 honda accord ex , driving 68 miles an hour and suddenly the car completed wigged out, the rpm's revved up in the red and the car would not maintain speed. it was sudden and super dangerous considering the circumstance. i called honda care and arranged to be brought to honda, they informed me i needed a whole new transmission. that it was internal. thank god i service and may god be with honda owners to protect them from this internal issue. *tr

Auto trans making noise, at 127kmi the speedo, odo stopped working - causing severe jolt/deceleration while driving. all warning lights went on tcs/engine/tranny/power steering. auto went in for service, determined needed new transmission at cost of $4000. motor mount also found broken. after multiple calls to american honda - was told that 127k was a respectable mileage prior to tranny failure and there would be no good will assistance of repair costs! this car had long history of check engine lights due to faulty engine mgmt s/w which was resolved in late 2007. also reported to dealer tranny light at 26k miles but was told nothing wrong. 3k miles after replacement i find the gas mileage has increased by over 3mpg which makes me wonder if the orig tranny was problematic since purchase of car? *tr

With little warning, transmission failed in car. driver merged into traffic, car sputtered at 25mph, when it should have been 45mph. a tracto trailer slammed on its brakes and wound up gently tapping the rear bumper. this could have been much worse. honda recommends new transmission. *tr

On april 2 2005 i bought a honda accord. recently i took my car to the ourisman honda dealership for a routine maintenance. the previous day i heard a noise coming from the engine. i explained to the noise to the technician. he checked and found the car had a problem with the transmission. he told me that they were going to try to talk to american honda to help me out with the cost because it is very expensive. it has been three weeks now with no response. i would like a solution to this as soon as possible. any help from you would be very much appreciated. thank you for your time. -martin quiej *tr

Saturday afternoon 9/13/08, my wife experienced an unusual uncontrollably high rpm rapid vehicle acceleration when shifting from park to drive. vehicle involved was a 2005, honda accord. fortunately this event occurred in a private wild life parking area and not in an area congested with people where serious injuries/death could have occurred. sequence of events: 1. initially vehicle could not be shifted from park to drive. engine was shut off and restarted 3 or 4 times and she was then able to shift into reverse and back out of parking spot. 2. with foot on the brake she shifted from reverse to drive and then started forward. 3. at that time the engine started a rapid uncontrollably rpm increase and vehicle acceleration. 4. after moving forward and turning right to avoid hitting a tree head on the vehicle struck and jumped over a landscape railroad cross tie. the total distance traveled from the point of shifting into drive and jumping over the cross tie was approximately 30 feet. 5. at this time she believes the uncontrolled high rpm & vehicle acceleration stopped. 6. vehicle continued forward for 15 +/- feet and struck and damaged a heavy metal guard gate. 7. vehicle front end and underneath damage has not been assessed at this time. 8. cause of vehicle malfunction is also unknown. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while driving 65 mph, the acceleration dropped to 25 mph and would not shift into third gear. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not exceed 25 mph, and then began making a grinding noise. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic and he replaced a solenoid, but it failed three times. the vehicle was finally repaired and the wire to the solenoid was replaced. the repair cost $856. the current mileage was 52,850 and failure mileage was 52,750.

2005 honda accord. consumer writes in regards to recall notice related to a defect in automatic transmission control module software *tgw the consumer stated he was involved in six accidents due to a recall, that should have been issued long ago. *jb

I have a 2005 honda accord with a 6 speed manual transmission which i bought new in april 2005. i had intermittent problems engaging 3rd gear right from the start. i took the car in for this problem at 5,000 & 15,000 mi. honda mechanics could find no problem. at 34,712 mi. a mechanic finally verified the problem and replaced the trans fluid per tech line with part #08798-9031. this was in april 07. the problem persisted. in august 07 with 44,000 mi. i took it in again for the same problem. no help. finally i was contacted by a service manager who verified that honda had a problem with 3rd gear in the accord and a fix was on the way. it would be available in december. it is now late march and still no fix. since that time i have gone on-line and found that honda has been aware of this problem with the 6 speed transmission in the accord, the civic and the acura since at least 2005. there are many sites with honda owners complaining of this problem and getting no response from honda. in certain situations, such as merging into traffic from a freeway on-ramp, it is very dangerous to have the car either not go into 3rd gear or pop out of it. the vehicle immediately decelerates and other vehicles traveling at freeway speeds come up very fast. is there any way to make honda fix these cars? below is an excerpt from edmunds.com and also a service bulletin related to this on-going problem. a few of our editors have noticed in the past that the transmission shift lever in our long-term 2006 honda civic si will occasionally pop out of gear or grind when making a 2-to-3 upshift. this trait does not seem to be endemic to our car as other civic si owners have made forum posts about this topic. (other six-speed manual acura vehicles might also suffer from this problem.) brent romans, senior automotive editor, edmunds.com tsb #1205 -- transmission grinds at shifts, skip shifting. *tt (nhtsa id #10018868, december 16 2005). *tr

Starting in september 2007, i had vibrations on my 2005 honda accord. tried many repairs like balancing tires and aligning front end. on 2/4/2008 dealer stated that left front axle is bad and charged me 50% of cost. after repair dealer return car to me with no air in right tires. seemed that to test the car, dealer removed air and did not replace and returned my vehicle to me and i drove on the highway. *tr

2005 honda accord v6 cp with only 37k on it, transmission failed this am and was towed to honda dealership in sacramento, ca. so far there is no update. car has been maintained and well taken care of. its soo sad that a honda car would brake down at only 37k when standard warranty is only good for 36k. i have no idea what will honda corporation decide but i hope they will stand behind their product and take care of their customers. *tr

1) the vehicle shakes at high speed. 2) the vehicle at slow speed sounds like the wheel bearings are grinding themselves down 3) the vehicle vibrates at slow and high speed but more so at high speed when pressing the brake peddle 4) the vehicle was brought to the dealership 3 times for these problems with the drive train and the brakes. still after the third time of having new brakes and wheel bearing the vehicle continues to vibrate to such a manner as i feel it highly unsafe. *tr

My car suddenly accelerated upon exiting a car wash as i changed from neutral to drive. the design of the exit lane from the car wash driveway and access to the four lane street where the car wash is located does not allow for any speed as there are two sharp turns . my car sped across the driveway, into a culvert and toward the heavy traffic. i applied the brakes immediately and steered the car away from the street, crossing several business parking lots and landscaped areas. my 2005 honda accord received several thousands dollars in damage. honda denied it was warranty and did not show me the computer diagnostic evaluation. in fact, this information seemed to be closely guarded by the service department at honda orr in hot springs, ar. i was told to contact my insurance company for repairs. this car experienced what i would explain as an open throttle which may be a new problem for computerized cars. i have taken several photos of my car and the scene, which shows several feet of skid marks. *nm

I drove a 2005 honda accord. after two days of purchased which was in april , 2005 i pulled out of the parking space my left front tire was popped. i had it replaced and called the dealership. they sent me to one of their tire affiliate dealer and they said that it was not manufacturer faults. four or five months after, i heard my brakes making this screech loud noise so i brought in for the dealer to take a look at and they had it re-do on the brake. last week, beginning of may 2006. the car bring in my attention on the freeway. when i drive at 65 miles, the car was shaking, it moves side to side and i don't have that much control with the wheels. i brought it in and the dealer had my wheels rotate for me. and today, this morning i dropped my daughter to her baby sitter house at 9:30 a.m. it is a busy residential area so i was driving around 15-20 miles per hour. i heard a very loud noise from my car and the car was dragging something in the front, right passenger side for few seconds and the car was dead stop in the middle of the street. i could not start the engine at all. so i went out and looked. i saw my front right side car dropped on it's own wheel with black pieces, bolt, and silver ring piece scattered on the street. i looked down and saw my front right axle was broken and felt down on the street. there are neighbors walked by and saw what happened. i called a towed truck and they came by to towed my car to the nearby honda dealer. with the condition the car was in. the tow truck man told me that he might had scraped my front bumper because my car had very small space for the lift of his truck to go under and lift up the car. we managed to secured the car and had it towed to the dealership. and they said that they will take a look at it. *nm

When the vehicle is started with a cold engine the car will surge in gear, accelerating the car unexpectedly. the frequency of the problem is intermittent. the car will surge with enough force that the amount of pressure one ordinarily exerts on the brake pedal to hold a car stationary is insufficient. *nm

My 2005 honda accord ex has three features that compromise my safety: 1. the right-hand corner of the sun visor, when in its fullest position (not at an angle), obscures nearly half of the rearview mirror. this has caused a number of "near accident" events. 2. the honda is designed to downshift when going downhill. not only does this diminish gas efficiency, but can cause skids in icy weather. 3. the brakes are extremely sensitive. i have spoken to two area honda service centers and a service representative at honda headquarter. the area managers say that "they're all like that; there's nothing we can do," and the honda headquarters rep says the same. she even went so far as to recommend i get the lower half of my windshield tinted to prevent sun glare! what about night driving? i can't believe that solutions to this problem cannot be found. can you help in any way? *nm

Dt: contact stated that while sitting at a stop light on a hill and taking foot off the brakes the vehicle rolled backward. dealer and manufacturer told her this was normal for this type of vehicle. she was told the idle was lower for a quieter ride, and it did not have the power the hold the vehicle on a hill.*ak

Is already time someone take real action against honda and this problem that a lot of 05 accord are having. this problem with very strong vibration from under the car. making any trip unpleasant. have research the web and they are hundred of accord owner suffering from this problem with no answer from honda. only answer is according to the dealer that is normal which is not. in my case my car is to the point the at any rpm you feel you are driving a car that has 300k miles on it when is a brand new engine. i really don;t want to keep wasting my time with dealer because all of them tell you something different. i beg that someone make honda aware of this issue and to find out a solution. *jb

Is already time for someone to take real action again honda and the problem that a lot of 05 accord owner are having with very strong vibration from under the car. making any trip unpleasant. i have research the web and they are hundreds of accord owner suffering from this problem with no answer from honda. only answer available is according to the dealers, that''s normal which is not. in my case my car is to the point that at any rpm you feel you are driving a car that has 300k miles on it when is a brand new engine. i really don''t want to keep wasting my time with dealers because all of them tell you something different or that''s just normal. i am requesting that someone make honda aware of this issue and to find out a solution because this vibration just seem to be getting worse everyday. -vibration happens at any time when car is idle and any gear is engaged. -when accelerating very strong vibration is felt from under the car and gas pedal and wheels. -(dealer have check alignment, rotates tires, and check pressure on tire still same problem just getting worse). this vibration makes car powerless. at point driving in highway that car becomes powerless. gas pedal have to be pushed really hard just to get it moving. had a few incident in which almost got hit by other car because car just wouldn't pick up properly. *jb
