We have classified the 77 complaints from 2005 Honda Accord about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the contact discovered that the gear shifter button had fractured and separated from the gear shifter knob. upon inspection, the contact noticed broken plastic fragments coming out of the knob where the button had detached. the contact indicated that after the failure the vehicle would only operate in the neutral and drive positions, and the key could not be removed from the ignition switch. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 09857723. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Repeatedly stopping. with no warnings. when driving, engine quit in january, would not move or even turn over. the manual transmission would not move. door locks, electric as well as with the key could not be used at. called aaa to be able to open the door. jumped the battery to move the car. still frozen in gear. had it towed to two dealers. said the clutch was destroyed. prior to this issue, not one problem. i had to pay 250.00 for diagnostics to tell me clutch was burned out. i have driven over 34 years and always had a manual transmission. after clutch was replaced, it did it again and again. at this point, we bought a new battery. once again, i called aaa and they jumped the battery. i am requesting an investigation into the constant electrical freeze. i would like a refund of the diagnostic. charges and repairs. clutch was installed for 1500.00. battery was120.00. please call [xxx]. as soon as possible. alt number is [xxx]. power train problem information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr **jb

The rear power window switches are not working the windows are not going up or down...
While driving vehicle transmission abruptly went into a down shift causing the vehicle to slow down while traveling at a high speed. recall # r89
Purchased car in 2007 - died while driving 2 wks later: new battery supposedly. had batter/electric problems repaired thru starter, new batteries and alternators every other year. today: 6/5/18 - car has electrical problem & so today i enter vin # into nhtsa website with results: " a broken outer race may cause abnormal noise, the malfunction indicator light to turn on, and allow contact between the transmission idle gear and an electronic sensor housing within the transmission" called honda hdqtrs and can't do anything
Takata recall. i took my 2005 honda accord to honda world in westminster, california and was told there's no recall for my airbags even though i have received notices in the mail and the airbag light turns off and on. the vehicle is in motion on city streets or highway, whether go straight or turning, the airbag light turns off and on. this dealer has refused to check the airbags unless i pay and says there's no recall for the airbags though i've received notices.
Non working front passenger and rear windows. try to roll others 3 widows down you can hear the switch click at the switch on the door you are trying at.
Initially only the drivers door and right rear passenger door would lock or unlock, whether inside the car, using the key, or using the key fob. beginning yesterday, all the door locks will neither lock nor unlock using any of the previously mentinoed methods, the lights at the bottom of the door will not turn off, and the dash symbol showing all doors ajar stays on constantly. i initally assumed it was the door actuators but after researching the problem, it seems to point towards an issue regarding three relays which are soldered on what's called a multiplex control unit located under the dash on the left. safety issue is i can't lock or unlock the doors.
Wipers and wiper washer stopped working; no blown fuses involved; keyless entry system not working; remote control is now opening just the trunk but nothing else; radio backlight not working & power steering gets hard in cold weather or after driving on streets or roads with little maneuver. even after pump replacement.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. upon starting the vehicle, all the windows failed to operate while pressing the power window switch. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to clawson honda of fresno (6346 n blackstone ave, fresno, ca 93710 (559) 435-5000) where it was diagnosed that an unknown module needed replacement. the dealer informed the contact of a recall, but no open recalls were found. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact received a postcard from tk holdings, alerting her that they filed for bankruptcy. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while stationary, the keys became very hot after being removed from the ignition. the contact stated that the buttons on the key fobiks became inoperable and neither of the ignition keys would start the vehicle. the manufacturer and the dealer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
My front passenger power window and the two back windows have stopped working completely. they cannot be opened. i looked online and this seems to be a common problem with the honda accords. it is dangerous. they just stopped one day.
The cluster lights and the dome light will get dim. the dome light does when you open the doors. the cluster lights will while the head lights are on. the lights on the radio do the same. the radio will make a loud noise and stop playing until you turn off and turn back on.the wiring to back speakers is put in wrong dont work at all. the seat belts will lock when trying to pull them and it dont matter if its in motion or stationary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle shut off while making a turn. all the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was diagnosed and repaired with a new battery; however, the vehicle had to be placed into park before it would restart. the failure continued intermittently. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 132,747.
The navigation system on my 2005 accord sedan is not working. the screen displays "check your disk" but it also affects the a/c-heater fan control, radio preset stations, clock settings, steering wheel controls. this to me is a manufacturer defect and should be recalled. many people are having the same or similar issue. my main concern is the lack of not being able to adjust the fan on either a/c or heater, it seems to all be connected to the navigation system. please help! this needs to be looked at as a safety recall, in case of foggy window i will not be able to increase the fan control. how do i know you took my concern in consideration? once again, please help!
Honda strung me a long for two years, resetting the electrical system to clear the engine light each time it was brought in for service. since those two years the warranty has expired on my hybrid battery, which cost $3500 or more to replace. it is their product, and knew the problem was to replace the battery. they scammed my so now im stuck with a useless car. they would not even agree to assist me in buying another one.
I was leaving a store on hull st. and my car was at about 40 mph and all of a sudden stopped moving and i felt that it was something bad so i cut the car off and restarted my car and it started up nicely once i switched gears from park to reverse the car didn't move. so i went to put car into park and there was a really loud noise which scared me crazy. i cut the car back off and it began to roll backwards in the park gear so i had to put the car emergency break on to keep in place. monday morning which i'd today i get my car towed to aamco and they diagnostic my car as a shaft failure which had broken which caused the car to make the loud noise when placed in the park gear and the car doesn't realize which gear it's in because it is broken inside the transmission
Without notice or cause the passenger window and both back seat seat windows stop responding to the power controls. this caused the three windows to not open, and has been consistent since it originally happened over a month ago.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v001000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000. updated 11/04/15*lj the consumer also stated the seat belt light illuminated. updated 11/8/15.*jb
May 4, 2015, 2005 honda accord v6 stalled and all systems non-functional while driving. accord rear-ended a car at rest at a stop sign. in november 2011, the transmission gave out on freeway. vehicle stayed on and i was able to quickly coast off the freeway, but drive train was out and needed to be replaced (105k miles). this transmission failure seems to be consistent with other nhtsa reports. in april, 2011 the accord began stalling and all systems failed while the car was in drive and moving. in may, 2012 the dch honda of temecula found faulty throttle sensor and replaced the part. the vehicle has not experienced this problem again until this failure and accident. i see several reports of accords stalling on this site. is this a known problem? my daughter was fortunate this didn't happen when approaching oncoming traffic or the freeway. this seems like a serious safety issue. *tr
The car sporadically turns off while driving. before the car shuts off sometimes the dashboard lights will flicker. the check engine light will sometimes go on for a day or two and then turn off. the car was checked out by three nys mechanics who all drove the car at length only to determine that nothing was wrong. one of the mechanics was from a honda dealership. *tr
Passenger side power window stopped working. mechanic i spoke to said the window regulator is broken and needs to be replaced. up until the day it broke, the window would get stuck and not roll back-up. this happened many times until it broke. the issue, in my opinion, didn't appear to be because of any weather. the car was never in an accident, nor was the passenger window ever tampered with or vandalized.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph and attempted to turn the air conditioner on, she noticed that the radio did not function. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the on-off switch but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.
Even though i regularly maintain my car, my car stalls at random while driving and the steering also locks up. this is extremely dangerous - the malfunction could have killed me or potentially caused a serious accident. this incident happened while i was driving down a busy street road - there was no warning, and no indicator lights went off prior to this happening - the car just shut off (stalled) and the steering locked up! luckily i was able to get to the side of the road. i will never feel safe in a honda again. *tr updated 10/1/2014 *js
Radio, including cd, on 2005 honda accord will turn on and off intermittently for no reason while car is parked and locked with no key in ignition. if radio volume is high and/or cd was on when car was turned off, this will drain the battery, especially if the cd player comes on. several times this killed the battery. workaround solution - make sure volume is at zero and radio is off before parking car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated that the key turned but the vehicle intermittently failed to start. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was not able to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
All of a sudden one day the gps navigation system stopped working completely. my car's make/model uses the gps navigation panel to manually change internal functions, access the trip computer, enter addresses, et cetera. without use of the navigation panel, i have severely limited access to most of my car's electronic functions. the navigation gets stuck on the start-up screen (something that looks blue/black with words 'honda'), and never gets to the second warning screen (orange text on black), where one can push 'ok on the touch screen. when the weather is warmer, sometimes i can push this ok button to get into the controls. i usually have 30 seconds until it fails again. the following issues are present: 1) cds; i cannot select a cd to listen to. i can eject/put cds in, but i can only change songs using the controls on my steering wheel. 2) climate control/temperature control: i cannot switch from the a/c to heat. i can only adjust the temperature up/down, recirculate air, or turn on front/rear defrost. for any temperature setting, when i push the 'off' button, i cannot turn the same setting back on with the 'auto' button. if i push the 'auto' button, it recalls some random last temperature settings, usually a very cold a/c setting (which i never programmed or desired). 3) maps; i can't enter any addresses, therefore, the navigation is useless. if it magically works, it turns off shortly after an address is entered. the navi 'lock-up' situation i described here has been present for over a year or so. weather does affect it. my research concludes that many other honda owners had this issue. many were told by honda directly that honda didn't know what the issue is, and to contact alpine, the manufacturer of the gps navi. most customers who did this were told to send their whole cd/dvd reader unit to alpine for repair, which costs several hundred dollars. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the battery was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a second opinion, where it was stated that the failure was due to an electrical problem in the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 114,000.
I viewed nhtsa id number: 10653526 involving the red airbag indicator light that comes on and won't go off. mine has been doing this intermittently for at least a year that i can recall. it is now on almost all the time. when calling a local dealer about it, they said that they would have to charge me to look at the problem and would be responsible for any work that would need to be done to fix it. *tr
The back light where the radio is keeps coming in and out. the radio would work, and then not work. i can be in the middle of a song and it will go off. i can also be silent and it go on. the light with no letters would stay on the whole time. when i wanted the radio to sound i would have to disconnect the battery and connect it back up. at this point i will need to replace the radio. there is no recall for the 2005 radio, but there is for the 2003-2004. if its the same radio and people are having to replace a radio that should work, then why is there no recall. i am not the only owner of a 2005 honda accord that this is happening to. i replaced the fuse thinking it was this. it works for a while and then i realized that the fuses where no blown. please have this as a recall and the people at honda are not very helpful even when they admit to having other owners come in with the same problem. *tr
I was driving on interstate 20/59 near ft. payne, alabama with the cruise control set on 75 mph. i changed lanes to pass a slower car but did not touch the gas pedal. the car started to accelerate on its own. i tapped the breaks to turn cruise control off but the car continued to accelerate without touching the gas pedal. the acceleration was not a full throttle acceleration, just a moderate increase. i then shifted the car from drive to neutral and the rpm's jumped up to redline, again without touching the gas pedal. luckily, a rest area was approaching and i managed to pull the car into the rest area parking lot playing with the drive/neutral of the transmission and using the brakes. once i made it to a parking space i turned the car off and shifted it into park. i waited a few seconds and turned the car back on. the rpm's again jumped up to redline without me touching the gas pedal. i shut the car off again and put my foot underneath the gas pedal and pulled up. i cranked the car again and it acted normal. i checked under the hood and everything looked fine. after some deliberation, we decided to continue on our trip and the car was fine for the next 4.5 hours. we drove back sunday, may 19 and the car again drove fine for 6.5 hours and hasn't had a problem since. the morning before the incident, i changed the alternator and oil. i strongly believe that this had nothing to do with the alternator or oil change. also, i doubled checked the carpet mat in the car and it was not even close to the gas pedal. i am not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem with a honda accord. i am a mechanical engineer and i am dumbfounded by this. being in a car with uncontrollable acceleration is quite unnerving. *tr
Driving on the highway, there was a pop and the car lost all propulsion. an original factory installed spark plug had blown out of its hole, damaging the cylinder head and destroying several coils, rendering the car undriveable and leaving me with a $4,000 repair job. from internet honda chat boards, it is apparent that this problem has occurred in as many as 1 in 600 honda accords, generally with the number 5 spark plug on the v6 models. *tr
The door actuators are not working, its the 2 left side only work on cold days. now, don't use the back doors and mostly use the drivers side. *tr
Airbags failed to deploy upon impact of collision. *tr
Car sat for 3 weeks in the winter of 2013. i was on maternity leave. i left for my first day of work and my battery was dead. i replaced the battery. all of a sudden it was a domino effect. radio doesn't work. it circles through fm1 fm2 and am about 3 times before it rests on am. none of my windows roll down except my drivers side. i've checked all fuses.... i've replaced the master window switch and nothing... so many people are having the same issue but no one says how to fix it or why it hasn't been issued as a recall. also my disk changer happened to eat my cd and wont cycle through aux or cd at all. i've taken this car to the dealership.. they told me to replace the master switch and i did... which was very expensive and it did nothing but cost me more money because now my auto key locks wont respond. im pissed. *tr
Door lock remote fails to open locks. if i'm inside the car, sometimes the driver's door lock will be jammed down, and key will not open from outside. nothing worked, i had to crawl over the console and exit by the passenger door. definitely a safety issue, since it could happen in an emergency. *tr
Radio makes popping sound and shuts off when ac is on and vehicle is in motion. system shuts down until it is turned back on problem is increasing with use. radio has had turned off an on multiple times at different times of the day during the week. radio is extremely hot on front face plate. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda accord coupe. the contact stated that upon starting, the lights along the radio and air conditioner failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer stated that the electronic gauge module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 111,000.
I have an 05 honda accord coupe. neither window will roll down, had the relay switch replaced but 6 months later back to the same problem. radio would go on and off, even when car was off. now the radio will not come on at all unless i unplug/plug the battery, then the result is only temporary. now the cruise control button will not work. if i push it down the green indicator light comes on but the button will not stay engaged. i've seen so many of the same complaints i was sure there was a recall i missed but there isn't??!! *tr
My 2005 accord had an illuminated supplemental restraint system (srs) light. the honda dealer diagnosed it down to a broken driver seat sensor harness; fault codes 71-10 (drivers seat pos sensor) and a2-10 (faulty pwr supply). this condition is exactly the same as described in honda service bulletin 07-002, "safety recall: driver's seat position sensor harness replacement." just as described in the bulletin, the wires on the harness become damaged and in fact were completely broken away from the plug end. however, my vin falls outside the affected vin's listed in the service bulletin and is not covered under this action. furthermore, i feel the dealer charged more than necessary for the repair: they charged 1.96 hrs of labor (at $97.00/hr), or $190.00, and $15.20 for the part totaling $205.20. in comparison, the service bulletin calls for 0.6 hrs of labor, which when added to the part cost would have totaled $73.40. bottom line: honda did not provide the proper fix for damaged driver's seat position harness's in later production vins. since they continue to cause the same unsafe condition, honda must be compelled to increase the scope of this recall. *tr
My 2005 honda accord lx v6 srs light illuminated at approx. 63000 miles. the honda dealer diagnosed the problem to dtc 71-10 (broken driver seat sensor harness). honda had a safety recall (service bulletin 07-002) regarding this problem in january 2007. my vehicle was not included in the recall. out of pocket cost $203.29. i have seen many other complaints lodged with the nhtsa on this matter. why was this recall not expanded? *tr
My air bag light was lit,i took it to honda they re-set something, 5 minutes later as i was leaving it lit up again. took it back they said they had to do diagnostics, ordered a wiring harness, installed that. i drove to florida and back 1300 miles round trip and the light is back on meaning my bags will not deploy. i have had a very difficult time getting this addressed. honda (apple tree in fletcher , nc) had my car from tue-sat and i had to rent a car due to their negligence. now i have to drive back over there 1 1/2 hour drive one way and see what is going on. i noticed there have been similar issues, but that my vin was not covered. please advise. i am still driving an unsafe car and have spent countless hours going back and forth and paying for a rental car. *tr
Driving down the street when the malfunction indicator light went on. within 5 seconds the engine stalled. was able to pull to side of road and stop the vehicle. turned off the ignition and was able to start the vehicle. this matches the scenario as outlined in recall #59558. contacted local dealer and honda america and was advised that my vehicle is not part of the recall. *tr
At first, when putting the car into gear, there would be a delay before the vehicle actually accepted that gear--anywhere from 6-10 seconds, along with a grinding noise when i would go from drive to park. i immeduately called my dealer and took it over there and explained to them what had been happening. given the mileage of my car, the manager of the service dept took the car out for a drive on the highway (with me), and tried to see if the gears were in fact slipping and i would need tranny work. after the test drive, it was decided that they would drain all the transmission fluid and replace it with new. this worked well for about 2 weeks, and then we had a big cold snap here in colorado. after that, it all went south. my car would no longer shift into 2nd or 3rd without a lot of noise. called the dealer, and by the time we got it there, the car was barely moving at 40mph on a major highway. when i purchased this car three years ago, the odometer read 42,000 miles. today it reads 67,000. really? i have transmission failure at 67,000?????? thank goodness i have a highly competent service manager at the dealership who went to bat for me and called honda directly. i received a "goodwill" repair, but am still forking over $1568 for a new transmission. obviously, honda has not fixed their transmission problems. i believe another recall needs to be issued sooner, rather than later. *tr
Airbag light appears on the dadshboard intermittently. it only comes on if i start the car and do not have my seatbelt on. if my seatbelt is on, the light does not come on. further, while driving and the light is not on, the moment i take my seatbelt off, while the car is running, the airbag light comes on. *kb
Sudden acceleration of car. pulling into a car bay, almost stationery. accelerator appeared to be sucked away from under foot. brakes applied, but car accelerated very fast over the curb and into wooden bollards (hitting so hard it ripped them out of ground, and broke in two), the car felt like cruise control had kicked in. i did not "accidentally" hit the accelerator, and my floor mats are no where near the accelerator (they are hooked down). vin [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
2005 honda accord has fuel pump issues which are consistent with safety recall. honda dealerships state my specific vehicle (by vin#) is not included in the recall, and therefore will not make repairs related to the recall. *tr
My car started having issues with the lights. the indoor and outdoor lights would continually fade out and then return and then fade again. often i had no lights on my dash or radio. my windows stopped working automatically on the right side. we could not lower the window. the locks stopped working occasionally. all of this is something i had a problem with my other honda as well. it was the same make model and year!! i thought it was just a fluke but when i got this car the same problems started. *tr
Windows wont come down, its a electric problem, certain lights in the car nwould go on and off example tale light. tire problems, and other stuff
