The passenger side air bag on our 2003 honda accord ex exploded as i was driving about 60 miles per hour on the freeway. due to light traffic we did not have an accident but both of us were very frightened and very distracted. my wife was unable to hear for at least a minute. her seat belt became very tight even restricting her breathing we were unable to loosen the belt and had to stop as soon as it was safe and have her sit in the back seat. this is a serious defect and could result in an accident. i will be interested to see how honda handles this as it is inexcusable that a safety device used to prevent injury could in effect cause one. *tr

Intermittent connection loss to the air bag due to bad wiring part commonly called "clock spring or honda's name for it "cable reel" i called honda to check for recalls and notified them of the problem, the report was filed and i was given a case number but there was no active recall on this. as another one of my vehicles of a different model had the same part replaced under a safety recall i knew it was important to report this to the nhtsa for review. *tr

Our airbag light keeps coming on. we are told that the airbags are inoperable when the light is on. we have had it in for repairs 6 times over the last 5 months. we have spent over $1,100 and still the airbag light comes back on. srs code 32-80 - honda dealer is unable to diagnose problem. we were told that american honda motor company has record of multiple incidences of this code with no know resolution. this is dangerous and a serious safety issue. this is our primary car and we cannot afford to keep pouring money in with no results! we need our airbags to work! *tr

Air bag warning light stays on. *tr

i purchased my honda in al in 2006. in 2012, i received a recall notice on the power steering feed hose. only 1 dealership where i live. i took my car to have them inspect and replace the existing power steering feed hose until the new hoses could be made. a young man to my info and i sat next to my car. this man said; "your power steering pump is shot and everything is going to need to be replaced over $600.00. this man looked at another man and said;'this woman is difficult.. the other man took the papers, opened my hood and did see the steering fluid leaking and said the part was not in and they did not have any replacement parts for the temporary fix but assured me i would be next in line. never happened! i called corporate to issue a complaint. i told customer service to note in my records, "i will never go back to them because they lie. but know, when the part does come in, they will charge corporate. a few months later, i called corporate back their records show they did in fact charge for a repair to my automobile that never took place. i was told by corporate that there was no one that could do the repair but the dealership. i said; "i have someone who i know is honest and has worked on honda automobiles for over 20 years. would you just send me the new part and let him replace it? she said; "no! we will have an arbitrator work with you and the dealership. no way! i am demanding to receive a free power-steering feed hose repair kit. of course with the year of driving i will now have to have the power steering pump replaced.. i just read another recall is issued on the passenger air bag.

Honda has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 through 2003 model-year honda and acura vehicles to replace the driver's airbag inflator originally installed in approximately 273,000 additional vehicles sold in the u.s. affected driver's airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality. my 2003 has the same faulty airbag light now coming on, but the vin # is not currently part of the recall. how is this not covered by a dealer for repair?

Intermittently the air bag light turns on when starting car and remains on. may stay off for a month or just a few days and then it goes on again. the problem is attributed to the seat belt latch which is the only part covered under lifetime warranty. my concern is that this happened to a close acquaintance with same make, model, & year vehicle (purchased in same state but different dealer). too coincidental that it is not a larger problem. *tr

The air bag warning light (supplemental restraint system [srs]) comes on and off randomly, but appears to be related to the front passenger seat. *tt

Side airbag light comes on most of the time indicating airbags are not working. *tr

Since the purchase i've experienced continual transmission problems. upon speaking with the dealership i was assured all was fine. you can imagine my surprise when i received notice of the transmission recall (nhtsa 04v176000). upon repair, in september 2004, i did not notice repair improvement, and continued to detect the rough grind of transmission shift and a whining sound. in 2009 i experienced a catastrophic transmission failure to which i had sought repair. in december 2010 i experienced another transmission failure. i have just now experienced my 3rd transmission failure, july 2011. my power steering pump had always had a faint whine, but honda services never identified it as concerning. the problem progressively became worse until honda finally suggested a repair, but informed me that the component was then out of warranty and would be a costly repair. i decided to delay repair until june 2011. ac problems manifested in september 2005 and required replacement in april 2008. my center council clock and temperature display has been flickering, dimmed, and absent since 2009. the interlock stuck issue first materialized in 2008 and serviced in july 2010. my airbag warning light has been active since 2008 with an occasional but repetitive tcs alert; and my headlamp glass has been hazed since 2005. the paint deterioration is ridiculously embarrassing, the leather seating began showing wear 2 years in, my seatbelt doesn't return to the original released position, head liner has water leak stains, cd player stopped working, exposed wiring is visible at the driver door hinge, i've gone through 3 batteries, countless tires, one cracked windshield, and i have always suffer from poor radio reception and occasional navigational signal roaming issues. in these times of thrift conscious fuel consumption, i utilize my nav tools to monitor my driving activity. i'm stunned to report i get a fuel economy of 24 mpg highway, not the 31 mpg as sticker reports. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that the air bag light was constantly illuminated on the instrument panel, rendering the airbags useless in the event of a crash. an authorized dealer was notified, but offered no assistance. the manufacturer was also notified and informed the contact that there were no recalls related to the failure. the contact was instructed to take the vehicle to a dealer to pay for repairs. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that the air bag warning light constantly remained illuminated after the vehicle was turned on. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was advised that the air bag sensor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.

I started the engine of my 2003 honda accord and the srs airbag light came on and remained on. this has never happened before. the car was involved in a rear-end collision over two years ago, and no airbags were deployed. i took the car to the shop to be looked at about the srs light, where two or three different diagnostic tests were run. i was told that the service tech's received a message from one of the tests indicating that the driver's side airbag was overcompressed. i was informed that airbags were considered a luxury item on a vehicle, and were not covered under the lifetime warranty like seatbelts are. i was also informed that if the car was involved in any crash while that light was on, that the airbags would not deploy. i do not understand why the airbag system would fail suddenly without being the result of an impact. i was told that with parts and labor, i would be charged almost one thousand dollars to have this part (the air bag inflater) replaced and installed. air bags are common safety features on cars and should not be considered a luxury feature. i do not understand why this happened, and why i should have to pay to have it fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving approximately 30 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front of the contacts vehicle. all of the vehicle air bags deployed except for the frontal driver air bag. the contact sustained bruising and minor injuries. the driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital via ambulance. the vehicle was towed to a collision center. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle had received recall repairs two days prior to the crash under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v364000 (electrical system:ignition) and stated that the air bag sensor could have been deactivated. the contact stated there was no light illuminated to indicate an airbag failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000. updated 05/04/11 *bf the consumer stated the transmission was replaced in august 2010 and in november 2008 the air bag light illuminated. updated 05/09/11

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while the contact was driving 25 mph, an opposing vehicle crashed into the front driver side. the significant impact caused the front driver side axle to fracture and the tire to position in an inward direction. during the crash, the air bags failed to deploy. the contact and front seat passenger sustained severe injuries to the head and suffered bruises. the vehicle was completely destroyed. the failure mileage was approximately 36,300.

I own a 2003 honda accord ex, 4 cylinder, 95,000 miles. the srs warning light recently illuminated. it illuminates sporadically. taking it to a dealer for repair. hopefully it just has to be reset. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord ex. the contact was driving approximately 70 mph when both passenger side curtain airbags inadvertently deployed without impact. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician was unable to determine the cause of failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

In a front end collision, the passenger airbag deployed but the driver's airbag failed to deploy. *tr

In addition to already recalled 2004-5 honda accords, you need to include 2003's too. airbag light is on and off intermittently. quite possibly it is the occupant protection sensor, or some component of that system, in the 2004/05's it is a wiring harness. mine has been doing this for several months. they will gladly begin looking for a $120 diagnostic charge. this is a federally required safety system, any safety system fixes should be at no cost to owner. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact was driving approximately 30-35 mph when the air bag inadvertently deployed and knocked the contact unconscious, causing the vehicle to crash into a mailbox and tree. the contact sustained body bruises and injury to the nose. the contact was transported to the hospital. a police report was filed. the vehicle sustained severe damages and was towed to a collision center. the contact's insurance company was notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the air bag deployed independently, resulting in the contact crashing into a tree. a police report was filed and the driver was reported injured. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage lot. the vehicle was not examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 25,000.

The srs airbag indicator light has come on almost daily since my purchase of my 2003 honda accord ex v6 in september 2010, indicating my airbags will not deploy when i need them most (in the event that i need them). this is a highly concerning common trend of this generation of accords. this issue needs to be thoroughly investigated and a recall needs to result. *js

Tl* the contact owned a 2003 honda accord. the contact was driving 3 mph from a traffic stop when her vehicle was struck from the driver side by a police vehicle. the left side and front of the contacts vehicle was severely damaged. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was available. a passenger sustained injuries to the head, elbow, knee, back, and neck. another passenger sustained a small cut to her forearm. the contact stated that the air bag did not deploy. the failure mileage was 105,008.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that the passenger side air bag deployed while she was driving 45 mph. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer; the dealer could not find the cause for the failure but stated that an electrical failure would cause the air bag light to remain illuminated until the failure was repaired. the contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint but offered no further assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the vin was unvailable. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000 and the current mileage was approximately 114,000.

2003 honda accord (vin [xxx] ) has an airbag warning light coming on after 30 minutes of driving. a honda dealer says the car needs new airbag control module for $525. there is a campaign # 07v001000 for 2004 & 2005 models airbags recall. this recall should include 2003 honda accord. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Air bag light randomly turns on and off. *tr

My airbag light came on in my 2003 honda accord. the dealership told me that this was due to an open circuit in the driver's side airbag inflater as well as a the drivers side seat belt buckle switch. i had these fixed and the light came on again on my way home. the dealership checked again and could not find out what was wrong and sent me home after resetting the light. the light came on the next day that i drove my car and when i called the dealership wants to charge me for another diagnostic fee. american honda said that there is no recall on my model, although there are recalls on other years for the same problem. p.s. the model number for the equipment is not in the dropdown menu, but on my paperwork it has 06788-sda-a82. once i started writing 0 in the field it automatically picked something else beginning with a 0. *tr

I have a 2003 honda accord ex with an erratic srs light. i've had it to the dealership three times for repair. 1st time: couldn't find a problem because the light went out. 2nd time: they had the car 2 days and replaced the driver's side seat belt tensioner. thought it was fixed but then the light came on again. this time they said it showed srs codes 22-8 (a short) and 51-2. they ruled out the short and are saying by the process of elimination the srs unit has to be replaced for $411. i don't think i should have to pay for this based on what i've read about this issue. what can i do now? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the air bag light came on upon starting the ignition, the light stays on consistently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, no repairs have been made. the failure mileage was 49000. the current mileage was 49500.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) what: air bags:frontal:sensor red light comes on intermittently. vehicle: honda accord 2003 vin: [xxx] mileage: about 70,000 related recall: 07v001000 how long: it stays on as long as the vehicle is being driven. conditions: 1. the light comes on even when there is no bag or small object on passenger seat. 2. the light has also illuminated while the vehicle was in motion and passenger seat was vacant. also when the seat was occupied by an adult weighing about 150 pounds. 3. the light comes on when starting vehicle after being parked for couple of hours. frequency: about once every 15 days (started occurring from feb 2010) recent change in conditions: 1. the driver side seat being shifted more recently as my wife has started driving this car too. i have owned this car for last 3 years and only recently the seat is shifted more often. that is the only change i can think of triggering this light. remedy: 1. the warning light goes off if i switch-off the car and take the keys out and restart it. though the process has to be repeated more than once. related recall: 07v001000 this situation is very similar to the conditions described in the recall. though my vehicle was not on that list. spoke with honda customer care, who suggested taking to dealer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated the vehicle was parked and when he came out his front passenger airbag had deployed. the contact stated his airbag light had not been coming on so he has no idea why the airbag would deploy. the dealer was contacted. the failure mileage was 101,000. the current mileage was 101,600.

I have a 2003 honda accord lx that was recently involved in a head on accident, where the car was traveling between 45 and 55mph when it slid on ice and went head on into a snow bank/ditch. there was only the driver inthe vehicle and approximately 90% of the front bumper was shattered due to the collision. the passenger airbag deployed with no passenger in the seat, and the driver's airbag failed to deploy. the seat belt on the driver's side locked, but the seat belt on the passenger's side (with the deployed airbag) did not. the car was not disabled from the airbag deployment and is still able to be driven at this time. i contacted price honda in dover, delaware where i purchased the car and they informed me that they were unable to explain why the air bag did not deploy on the driver's side, nor were they able to explain why the car's safety features did not work properly following the accident. i was also told that if i do get the vehicle repaired, there was no way to ensure the air bag system's efficiency and they could not guarantee that if in another accident that the air bag would deploy or not. *tr

I own a 2003 honda accord ex. starting few months ago, the airbag warning light comes on at random times. i restart the car, the warning light goes off most times. i am concerned that the airbag may not deploy in an accident. *tr

We own a 2003 honda accord in good condition. four times since jan., 2010, our air bag indicator light on dashboard has come on and remained on until engine is shut off. apparently it re-set itself each time. there seems to be no rhyme or reason for this sporadic occurrence. we have discussed the problem with our honda dealer who claimed to know nothing about the problem, except to tell us that when the light is on, the air bag system will not work. the manual instructs the owner to take the car to the dealer to determine the cause of the problem. the dealer said to bring the car in for diagnosis which will cost $95.00. is this a safety issue? have there been any other complaints on this matter? shouldn't a honda dealer be responsible for a factory installed air bag system?

Since january, 2010, on starting the vehicle, the airbag light sometimes remains lit - along with the notice "passenger airbag off", which turns off after a second or two. this is not affected by whether there is a passenger (or package) in the seat, cold or warm start, temperature outdoors or temperature inside the car. *tr

Srs light turns on and off on the dash. i took my 2003 honda accord ex- v6 to the dealer and the diagnostics codes were 53-31, 61-10, f1-11, f3-11. after the dealer calling honda, honda recommended to replace the control unit. however, reviews indicate that the airbag warning light may come on due to a defective occupant position detection sensor requiring its replacement. honda decided to recall the 2004 models for the same airbag issue, but left out the 2003 models.

Srs light comes on intermittently while driving. talked with the dealer he told me to get the srs module replaced. i think this is a manufacturers fault not installing proper srs sensor module into honda accord ex model cars. i truly believe this is a safety issue. *tr
