We have classified the 243 complaints from 2000 Honda Accord about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
The dashboard light labeled "srs" illuminated around 34,500 miles. according to the provided owners manual the entire system is non-functional as indicated by the srs light. i had the system examined by the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a failed passenger position sensor, located within the right side of the passenger seat. the dealer fixed everything but the sensor, claiming that it was my responsibility to repair it because it wasn't covered under the warranty. seeing that the airbag system is overall safety of the car, which composed a significant portion of my reasoning to buy the vehicle i advised them to replace the part, at approximately $500 only to be told that it was on back order. the airbag system will not function as a result of the failure of this position sensing component and severely compromises the overall safety of the vehicle for all occupants. i filed a complaint with the company and did not hear anything until i personally followed up, only to be told that i would have to pay for the repair, when the part arrived. currently, my srs system is inoperative from no fault of my own. i don't think that honda should market, install and sell such a system if they can not seem to get it to function correctly for at least 35000 miles if they are not willing to stand behind it, aside from the fact the possibility of a severe injury has now increase by and exponential amount, what consumers pay to prevent and insurance companies offer discounts to promote, due to the malfunction of the factory installed defective components. seeing the fact that the supply is insufficent to meet the demand for the part leads me to believe that my vehicle is not the only one with this problem, and not the only whose safety of both passengers and driver a like is being compromised without the proper function of the purchased system. dt
While driving and being hit on the front right side of vehicle air bags did not deploy. dealer notified.*ak
I purchased a honda accord coupe in july 2000. exactly 2 years to the day that i received the car, i brought it to the dealer because the srs light on the dashboard came on while i was driving and stayed on. the dealer cleared a diagnostic code. 10 days later i brought it back for the same problem and they replaced the opds unit. everything was ok for 2 years. in november 2004 i brought it to the dealer for the same problem. the dealer checked the codes and found none. in august 2005 again back to the dealer for the same problem.. they replaced the passenger's seat belt buckle, with in 2 days the srs light came back on. it has been off and on since (as of 10/28/05) *jb

While driving, the srs light illuminated on the dashboard. dealer has been notified several times; however, was unable to solve the problem. *ak consumer states that after the occupant position detection system unit was replaced since april 02, the consumer was taking the vehicle for repairs at dealer for srs light every month (almost twice a month). *scc

I owned a honda accord 2000 ex model. we bought from dealer as new.5 years ago, the srs light came on. we took to the dealer in atlanta georgia (before we moved to california), their service attitude was extremely bad. and told us that we need to paid for our diagnostic fee and could cost us $1,500 to fix it i was extremely mad and called honda corporate office in torrance. they were very bad too. we took it to the dealer in orange county, california. the service was outrageous bad. the srs concern the deployment of airbag and should be a lifetime warranty. after extensive research, i found out that so many honda accord owners have the identical problem. we suggest nhts make this case with honda and ask them to put this issue as lifetime warranty honda north america is very bad. *jb
Srs system determined bad by honda dealer 3 months ago. on 12/05/2001 srs system determined bad by honda dealer for a second time. was told by dealer that the solution to the problem was unknown at this time.*ak

This problem (srs lights) started within 12 miles from driving off the dealer lot. was told it's normal-"forget about it". there have been only fleeting days between the christmas light show the dash lights put on. it does not instill confidence. poor servic e guys can't fix it because nothing works. i don't want to drive a car without airbags . if i wanted a non-airbag equiped car, i would have paid less for one - an old one most likely. i can't believe this is a honda product!!!! i*ak
I've had problems with my srs dashboard light since i purchased the vehicle new in 2000. i had it repaired once and was reimbursed by honda. this time i'm told it is a problem with the $700 srs controller and is not covered. i'm told the airbags will not deploy while this light is on. mine, and many other 2000 accords have had this safety related problem and it is inexcusable that it not be covered by recall/extended warranty. *tr
Either engine siezed (0w-20 oil) or inadvertent air bag depolyment. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact noticed that the engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was exhaust gas recirculation and clogging. the manufacturer issued technical service bulletin number 626561 (engine and engine cooling:exhaust system:emission control:gas recirculation valve (egr valve)). the failure exceeded the constraints for the voluntary warranty extension campaign; therefore, the manufacturer would not assist with the repairs. she also noticed that the air bag warning indicator would sporadically illuminate on the instrument control panel, which indicated that the passenger side front air bag was inoperative. on one occasion, a vehicle driving approximately 80 mph crashed into the front passenger side of the contact's vehicle. the front passenger side air bag failed to deploy. the occupant sustained moderate injuries. the manufacturer would not assist. the failure mileage was 1,000 and current mileage was 90,000.
Consumer was going around a curve about 40-45mph and hit a patch of gravel. consumer hydroplaned into a ditch, and driver side airbag didn't deploy. consumer had severe neck/shoulder injuries. dealer was waiting to hear from insurance company. dealer stated the airbag did everything it was suppose to do, not deploy. dealer felt it was up to insurance to say it was supposed to deploy. *ak the passenger side air bag did experience deployment, insurance company has decided other airbag should have deployed, consumer states usaa insurance company, skip holliday, has information regarding reports. *slc
We have not received an estimate on the damages from the appraiser/insurance company. vehicle was hit on the driver side on the headlight at an angle. this threw the vehicle into a ditch on the right side. the i-beam from the frame can be seen thru the bumper to illustrate the impact on both driver and passenger side. the police and the tow truck operator immediately pointed out that they felt the driver airbag should have deployed. i filed a complaint with honda consumer affairs on 5/7/01, but have not heard a word from them since. i would like to get the car inspected by a professional before anyone starts tampering with the vehicle.*ak
While traveling at40 mph another vehicle cut consumer off. as a result of an accident, passanger's side air bag went off, but driver's side did not deploy. *ak consumer suffered injuries. *jb
The srs warning light was on. the diagnosis determined the fault was caused by low system voltage even though the battery and electrical system tested to oem specs. no parts were replaced. the servicing dealership (gillman honda - houston) said the fault is due to a misdesign by honda. this problem may prevent the airbags from deploying (if the srs fault light is illuminated again). a safety recall should be considered.*ak
The drivers side airbag went off for no reason. honda couldn't find a cause. implied it was my fault but paid for replacing it.*ak
Since date of purchase consumer has taken vehicle to dealership four times for airbag illumination. manufacturer contacted dealership to inform them they were aware of problem, but no remedy could be found at this time. please provide furthur details. *ak

I discovered there is a recall on 2000 honda accords that pertain to airbags not deploying. my research discovered that the first sign there is a problem with the airbags is the srs light on the dash comes on & stays on. this happened to my 2000 honda accord. 1 week ago i contacted emily in the service dept at rock honda in fontana ca. i was told my vin did not apply to the recall. i explained that my car is experiencing the same problem as the cars that were recalled. i asked how they could know for absolute sure that my airbag is not defective based on a vin number. an answer was never provided. after pushing the issue emily scheduled an appointment with me to have the car looked at free of charge. emily told me that she would for sure see me on the scheduled day and to make sure that i talk to her. at the time of the appointment it was found that emily had gone on vacation w/o informing me about my scheduled appointment possibly needing to be changed, nor did she leave any info for the service members about my situation. i was told to just inspect the car it would cost $75 and since the srs light is on there is definitely something wrong w/ my airbag and it would cost an additional $800 to fix. honda said that they will not fix my car free of charge because of my vin number, even though they are aware that there is indeed a serious safety problem w/ defective airbags in the 2000 honda accords. it was also found that since my car is a canadian honda, but was sold to me brand new in so. california at rock honda, that american honda will not deal with the situation and have been told that canadian honda cannot force a u.s. dealership to fix the problem. my concern is i drive 6 days a week to & from work. a 1 way trip is 45 minutes long in heavy stop & go traffic. i'm extremely scared i will have an accident & will be injured because my airbags will not deploy. i feel lucky in the 3 & half years i've owned the car i ...
Bridgestone tire failure. *slc
Transmission made a loud sqeaking noise and the air bag system failed twice. the dealer was informed appx. 7 day after the car was purchased of the problem and insisted it was just new car noises they will work themselves out. and again in april may i informed the dealer and the same things was said. now i have a replaced transmission and they do not know why the srs system keeps failing. *ak
Engine check light went on twice. took vehicle to dealer, and they said fuel filler: cap was not on properly. then, it was electrical system causing engine light to come on. a week later, srs light came on, indicating something wrong with airbag and seatbelts. *ak
On or about august 2003, i brought my car in with about 12000 miles to dealer because the srs light was going on. dealer could not detect a problem. it when on or off until 95,000 miles. at 95,000 miles the light stood on. at 98,000 miles, i brought the car in to have the transmission inspected due to a recall. i asked dealer to checked my air bag problem. they detected problem as being a faulty air bag module. unfortunately dealer, did not want to repair module under original warranty because it had expired. although, i brought in my car at 12,000 miles letting them know of a problem. it was an expensive repair and opted not to have it repaired by the dealer. i took it to another mechanic and had the air bag system re- set. the light when off. however, the light came back on a month later. currently, iam riding the car with no air bags on and the manufacturer refuses to honor my warranty when i first brought in the car to the dealer at 12,000 miles and informed me that it is not their responsibility. what can i do?*ak
Consumer stated upon taking delivery of vehicle, before leaving the car lot, the supplemental restraint light remained lit after all the other dashboard panel lights went out, consumer was informed by dealer that was normal and if the light did not go off within 1,000 miles to bring the vehicle back, consumer then returned the vehicle 1 month later and informed the dealer that the light was still comong on, the cause was a faulty seat sensor and the problem was supposedly corrected, however 4 months later the light illuminated again, and a new part and sensor were installed, on october 16, 2001 consumer was involved in an automobile accident in which the drivers air bag failed to deploy, however the passenger air bag did deploy.*jb

I have taken my 2000 honda accord into the dealership multiple times because the side airbag light will intermittently come on and stay on while driving, thereby disabling the side airbag system. this occurs mostly when nobody is sitting in the passenger seat. i have taken this to three honda dealers and each and every one says that they don't know how to fix it. what do i do? i bought the car because of the protection the side bags offered, yet they seem to be inoperative a lot of the time and nobody knows how to fix them.*ak
When i first purchased my vehicle, a 2000 honda accord coupe ex v6, the passenger seat will not lock into place after moving the seat forward so that rear passengers can enter or exit the vehicle, therefore posing an extreme safety hazard to front passenger occupants. i have told my dealership, ed voyles honda (miki mullinax is my service advisor) about this since i first purchased the vehicle and i was told that this is "just normal". i don't understand how a condition that is potentially so dangerous can be "just normal". also, my srs indicator has come on for no particular reason and i explained this to my dealership, after looking at the technical service bulletin on this website, and they were going to have me pay a diagnostic fee to see if this was true or not. i actually also had an instance of the failed mil which was resolved by my dealer yesterday (honda service bulletin #00-017). please advise on these issues. thanks. jody kell ps: the incident date that i am using is the day that i purchased the vehicle, which is when the seat issue first began.
