We have classified the 243 complaints from 2000 Honda Accord about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Pulling out of the garage and srs light went on and stayed on for ever. *jb
Srs light turned on spontaneously; honda keeping diagnostic codes secret, so my local shop is unable to fix; could be simple seat belt switch, could be airbag failure; not with $150+ to check for simple seat belt switch. solution is to make the codes accessible to the public instead of keeping them secret so customers can choose where to have the repairs done instead of forcing repairs at honda dealership. *jb
In reference to a 2000 honda accord with nearly 160,000 miles. the srs light came home a few days ago. the srs light indicates a problem with the airbag. the honda dealership will not look into this problem without me paying them nearly $100. from what i have been told and from what i have read, this srs light indicates a problem with an opds sensor and is common in this year model. i am not sure what to do or who to contact. i feel this should be covered and repaired free of charge. i have no control over this sensor and in no way could i have "broken" this or caused the problem. i have searched and searched for recalls on this particular issue, but nothing! please help! *nm
2000 honda accord hit dry ice and hit sanding truck on front of accord no air bags deployed i was passenger and wearing a seat belt broke my sternum due to great impact of crash. ended up spending 3 days in hospital and 6 weeks off of work. *jb
2000 honda accord hit the back of a hyundai sonoma at rate of speed around 50 mph. air bags on honda did not deploy for driver or passenger sides. driver obtained head injuries and neck trauma. honda is at tow yard. *nm

2000 honda accord srs light and sensor unit problems**cc the srs control unit was replaced at 67339 miles, 87909 miles and again at 97762 miles. the first time it failed the consumer only have to pay $100 deductible. the second time the srs light illuminated the dealer told the consumer that he would be responsible for the cost to replace it because the replacement only had a one year warranty. the consumer decide to just let the dealer reset the light and not to have the unit replaced. the light came on a third time. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the dealer told the consumer that it would cost $690.54 to replace the unit. *nm
2000 honda accord se with 105k mileage. the srs faulty light is constantly on, which i was told may cost over $1000 to fix. airbag system is a basic safety feature in automobile. it should have life time warranty on it same as the seat belt. *nm
Car hit a ditch going 40-50 mph. air bags didn't deploy resulting in broken rib subdural hematoma and severe bruising on head and chest. car was totaled out by insurance company. *nm
The srs light stays on for my 2000 honda accord. this is the 6th occurrence of this problem. the first instance was in 2002 and today, october 18, 2006, it is on again for the 6th time. when this light stays on the air bags will not deploy should there be an accident. according to new york state law, if a vehicle is equipped with air bags they must be functioning. *nm
Srs light stays on meaning airbag malfunction. after reset it comes on again. *nm
I too have problems with the srs light. it came on about a year ago, i new they would charge a small fourtune to repair. then i received the extended warranty letter. however, i can't afford to give up my car for a day or so while they diagnose what the cause is. *nm
I own a 2000 accord exl v6 and my srs light just came on and i have about 95k miles. *jb
While driving my 2000 honda accord ex last week the srs light came on. i called jerry damson honda and was told by the technician that my vin number was not covered by the extended warranty given to some honda owners which had the same problem. i was informed that i would have to pay for a diagnostic. if there is a known problem with the srs light coming on there should not be an exception for certain vin numbers. this is unfair!!!! my brake light also comes on and goes off even after a part was replaced. needless to say this was my first honda and will be my last!!!!*jb
Srs light has been on for weeks, found it means faulty airbag. found honda issued "technical bulletin 02034 (update 06-009) for a faulty control unit that caused the srs to come on. the warranty is for 10 years or 150,000 miles." called stevens creek honda dealership (san jose), and service advisor quoted $126 just for checking if my case applies to it. if it is, he said he will call honda for action. why does not honda just recall this ? do i have to pay $126 just to see if it is warranty item ? i know from website (http://www.carcomplaints.com) that many guys are reporting same problem. thanks. *nm
Honda srs light on. dealer will check. *nm
Airbag malfunction indicator light is on. creating a critical and dangerous problem that needs to be addressed asap. since this is a safety related defect and is covered by law as stated by nhtsa on there web site under voq and recall booklet. the airbag malfunction creates a situation in which could cause death and critical injuries to the driver and passenger. i contacted american honda motor co. they refuse 100% to repair the malfunction. they refused to let me speak to a dept. supervisor. they also stated that the dept. supervisor never contacts or speaks to any customer. stating that this was the way they do business. i spoke to mr. todd yamatsuka american honda motor co. at automobile customer service. i told him more than one time that the airbag malfunction was a critical safety related defect and i also informed him that by refusing to repair the malfunction would be a violation under nhtsa law requirements. he even offered me what can be considered as a bribe, stating that he could get me free spark plugs, dist.cap, and wires. i refused to accept this. in order to end this conversation i ask for the last time if he was going to repair the airbag malfunction he stated no. ps i do not know what oem stands for please let me know when ever possible. *nm
Srs light came on (again). almost a year ago,i had the srs unit replaced which cost >$1200: the dealer had my car for a month - they could not figure out why the srs light wouldn't go out. *nm
Srs light has come on and there is no apparent problem. i have been told that my airbags will not deploy if this light is on and dealership wants tons of money to fix it. since this is a major safety feature, this should be recalled. i have seen lots of other people with this common problem and i think you really should look into this. *nm
My car is a 2000 honda accord se. the srs light will not go off. it is going to cost a lot of money to replace part. there are may complaints about this area of concern. when is the recall going to be issued? *nm
Srs light stays on all the time. *jb
The srs light came on indicating that the passenger airbag would not work. i called my honda dealer and they told me that "some" of the 2000 accords were covered in by an extended (10 year, 150k mile) warranty for this system. however, when they ran the vin on my 2000 accord, they informed me that mine was not covered. they could give me no answer as to why some of 2000 were covered but mine, which has this critical safety problem, was not. honda is making a big mistake with this vital safety issue. *jb
Srs stays on. *jb
After years of paying $100 a shot to have my honda accord srs light analyzed and turned off, the opds was replaced under honda's extended warranty. guess what? the srs light came back on a week later. i'm told by honda customer service i have to go back to a dealer, pay another $100 for another evaluation. they also said i could get reimbursed for all the times i already paid the fee if i could get the service history from the dealers. guess how cooperative the dealerships are being at providing that information? i wonder how much the company has made off of this "defect" and how many people -- like myself -- are still driving around with two young children wondering if my air bags will deploy if i have an accident? my nys inspection is coming up and i'm not going to pass unless i pay yet again for this light to be evaluated and simply shut off...only to turn on again in days. *nm
1) the srs light keeps coming on. 2) passenger side seat-belt occassionally unclips itself. *nm
The srs light comes on by itself. this means that airbags won't be deployed in a crash. the dealer said it will scost ~ 1000-1500 $ to fix it. airbags should be covered for lifetime. reading the following website: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2001/seat_belts_air_bags/srs_light_keeps_coming_on.shtml this is a very common complaint. *nm
Srs light turns on intermittently. this lasted for several months but now the light has remained on. *tr
At around 43,000 miles, the srs light came on in our 2000 honda accord. i called the local honda dealer and they said that i would have to pay $60 for a diagnostic test, then a charge for fixing the defective part. i asked what would be the cost to replace the air bag, if that was the problem, and they said that they would not tell me the cost. *nm
Srs light came on around 80,000 miles. i have been told everything from it was no big deal, your air bags will not work. i just wanted to know that danger, if it could be fixed, and if there was a warranty coverage issue. it didn't seem to be covered by a recall, even though there were hundreds of cases on the web of people with accords all having the same problem. *ak
Srs light on instrument panel stays on.. *nm
Srs light staying on after 100k miles. *jb
Srs warning light came on july, 2006. took car to dealer under warranty extension: main components of the occupant position detection system. car returned un-repaired. srs warning light still on. *jb
(1) srs indicator turned on and stays on (2) could indicate problems with the srs system. *nm
My srs light came on. i believe this is related to a safety item, the airbags of the car. when i called the local dealership (open road honda) they informed me that it would cost 105 just to diagnose the problem then from there it would be additional costs. i read on your website that all safety items should be fixed at no cost. the dealer told me that only safety belts are under that warranty. i'm very unhappy. i looked around some websites and other dealers have fixed it for no cost. why is my local dealer asking me for 105 just to diagnose a safety product on my car? it is unsafe to drive without my airbags on! i am afraid of driving it since one of the reasons why i bought the car was because it has airbags. now they don't work. *jb
I have a 2000 honda accord with only 50,000 miles and the sensor system in the front passenger seat that detects whether a person is properly seated is defective because my srs warning light constantly stays on during vehicle operation. i am utterly disappointed given its early failure rate since i have been a loyal honda/acura customer for a very long time. i hope there is a recall or extended warranty to cover this problem. it appears many 2000-2001 accords/3.2tl have this problem. *jb
My wife owns 2000 honda accord se and having problem with srs warning light on all the time. we had the light turned off and few months later it comes back on again. it was repeated for few years now and no use. don't understand why because her car's front and back bumpers are in good condition. searched the internet and noticed that lot of other owners had the same problem. was there any recall on this ?? it makes me really nervous that the air bag might engaged and blow certainly while driving. could you investigate this problem please ? *tr
Srs light always on. 8nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle was hit by another vehicle on the driver's side, this caused the contact to hit another vehicle with the front passenger side. the air bags did not deploy, seat belts were in use and no injuries were sustained. the police were on the scene however no report was filed. the interior lights work intermittently. there are several indicator lights that do not work at all, and the lights that do work dim without warning. there is a nhtsa recall # 02v08000, regarding the fontal air bags and a nhtsa recall # 04v256000, regarding the interior lighting. the vin was not included in the recall.
Srs indication light illuminates after seat belt was replaced. *nm
Srs light came on 2000 honda accord ex. honda dealer diagnosis was srs control unit and a driver side seat belt buckle. supposedly the $44 buckle was under warranty but the $600 srs control unit is not. why would a functional buckle with inop sensor be under warranty and the srs control unit (srs brains) not be? how can both fail at the same time? something doesn't sound right. *nm
My 2000 honda accord lx battery finally died. a new battery was replaced the same day and now the srs light stays on and won't go away. i contacted a local honda dealership and they want to charge me $90 just for diagnostic and the cost of repair. i searched on the internet and realized that is a common problem with many honda and acura car models after any power related issue. *jb
My 2000 honda accord ex has recently had the srs light come on, when i took it to the dealer cambridge honda they charged me $98 informed me that the car had recently been in accident (it hasn't) and that the box wouldn't communicate with their test set so to fix it would require replacing the entire system ($1000 +). *nm
The srs light of my 2000 honda accord dx came on and remain for no reason. i will never buy a honda any more. their quality is getting bad but price stays high. *jb
My 2000 honda accord lx (srs light remain on). gas pedal get stuck, rotor and drum was bended. *nm
The srs unit for airbag deployment has failed on my 2000 honda accord lx with 104,000 miles. the honda dealers want ~$740.00 to replace this unit as there is no extended warranty or coverage beyond the manufacturers 36/36 factory warranty. considering the essential necessity of this unit it seems unreasonable for this unit should fail within 104,000 miles and in less than 6 years. i had today 3 different honda dealerships tell me today that it can be expected that these units will begin failing at 100,000 miles! how can this be the case? isn't it reasonable to expect the safety of the airbags being deployed in a car that is in very good condition mechanically and structurally to continue for a much longer period? isn't it also to be expected that early failure of this unit should be covered either fully or partially by honda? it is reasonable to think so. i also own a 1992 and a 1994 honda accord with the same srs unit with no failures having occurred. i would like the nhtsa to investigate this matter as to premature failure occurring. *nm
Since year 2000 i have been bringing my honda accord to honda service center for maintenance and repairs. the srs light had been going off and when i took the car to honda of concord, they just reset the srs light and blamed my cell phone as the possible reason. since then i avoided placing my cell phone on the passenger seat but the srs light would still turn on after couple of weeks. i have inquired from them if it was a defect and they said "no". this has been going on until in 2004 when i took my car to honda of oakland when they decided that it was the opds that was faulty and they changed it (charged me $700.00). after a week that it was changed, the srs light turned on again, and every maintenance service time they just reset the light. 2 weeks ago, honda of oakland told me that they will replace the opds sensor and will refund me of the $700 that i paid last year. am supposed to bring my car on tuesday march 28, 2006 to honda of oakland service center so they can change the opds. they now claim that it is covered by 5 year warranty (last year they said it wasn't covered). i haven't missed any maintenance service for more than 5 years now and on every visit i have complained about this srs light malfunction. what's the best thing i should do? *jb
My supplemental restraint system (srs) warning light went on. this is serious because when the light is on, honda told me, that the airbags are disengaged. i took the 2006 honda accord sedan v6 to the dealer. the service department told me that there was a service bulletin out on this problem, 02-077 dated dec 17, 2002. i was told it would take $1600 to fix. i read the service bulletin. it states that this problem is due to static electricity problem in the system. as an electrical engineer this means there is a design problem with this vehicle. even though this is a design problem and the bulletin came out while my car was still under warranty, honda, east coast headquarters, has only offered to cover parts. i believe that this not just my problem and that honda needs to issue a recall due to the safety issues related to a srs light. again, when the srs light is on, airbags will not deploy. *jb
The srs light will not go off after starting the car. it was tested by a honda dealer and i was told that they reset the light but if it came on again, i would have to purchase a new srs unit at a very high cost. three hours after leaving the dealer, the light came back on and will not go off. since this is a safety feature like the seat belts, the dealer/manufacturer should replace this at no cost to me. *jb
