Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2000 Honda Accord

On september 27, 2008 i was involved in a collision where the front of my vehicle collided with the back of a stopped vehicle at a significant speed. the airbags in my 2000 honda accord did not inflate. the extent of the damages totaled the vehicle and i was interested in determining if the vehicle's airbags were defective at the time of the collision. *tr

Srs sensor light has been on for about half a year now continuously without apparent reason. dealer previously replaced the opds unit (about 2 years ago) and prior to that reset it a few times, but now the car's warranty has expired and srs light is on again. dealer now wants to charge a $75 inspection fee plus $400-$700 to replace the unit, a unit that mind you was already supposed to have been replaced. worried air bags will not properly deploy in the event of a wreck and also that our car will not pass annual state dot inspection. with the exceedingly high number of issues with this same problem, hopefully honda will have to do a recall to fix these units once and for all. *tr

I have a 2000 honda accord lx. the srs light came on a few weeks ago and it has remained on ever since. i was looking at some blogs and a number of accord owners (2000 and 2001 model years) have this problem. *tr

I have a 2000 honda accord ex and the current mileage is about 70000. a few days ago, for no reason, my srs light was on. i called the honda dealer and was told that it means in case of an accident, the air bag won't deploy. the dealer charges $130 just to diagnose the problem and not sure how much ensuing cost will be. i read a lot of on-line complaints about the same problem. it's not an isolated problem and has serious safety impact. honda should put such defect under recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the supplemental restraint system (srs) warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was repaired but the repairs were unknown. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 02v080000 (air bags). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 126,650. updated 2/1/15*cn

The srs indicator of my honda accord 2000se is always on. *tr

My 2000 honda accord se is approaching 107,000 miles. around a week ago (june 1s, 2008) , srs light came on and has stayed on ever since. *tr

Passenger side airbag light illuminated. *tr

I have a 2000 honda accord with 2 door and 4 cylinder; mileage is about 105000. the car has the srs sign on it. took it to couple dealers and talked to some car enthusiasts, and they say it's an airbag issue. airbag may not deploy in case of an accident. honda dealer wants to charge around 100+ to diagnose and then would tell me how much it will take to fix the problem. i feel if it's a safety issue, it should be taken care of by honda. *tr

Srs light is on constantly. paid dealer $100 to diagnose problem. i was told that both the left and right seat belt buckles need to be replaced at a cost of $600. i feel that this should be covered by the lifetime seatbelt warranty. *tr

My 2000 honda accord ex is approaching 130,000 miles. the other day the srs light came on and has stayed on ever since. after some research i found that honda had extended the warranty on the opds sensor and belt assembly. i went to a dealership and had them diagnose the problem. they found that it was the controller unit which had failed. i asked how a solid state computer component would fail other than defect and they said they did not know. i believe that a key safety feature such as this on a car should be covered under an extended warranty. especially since they have extended the warranty on related components acknowledging that there are defects in the srs system. *tr

My srs light came on for no reason and stayed on. *tr

Srs light on dash...heard that it is the opds sensor going out have not repaired yet. *tr

The srs light has been on constantly for the past week. the dealer charges $97 just to diagnose the problem. after reading about all the similar complaints on this site and the fact that this is a safety issue, i don't believe there should be any charge to repair the airbag system. *tr

Srs onboard computer and passenger airbag failure at 5 miles. 9-3 seat belt driver side failure 85k. american honda states it is by design and even though they have a lifetime warranty on the belts they will not cover this. *tr

i have a honda accord 2000 and the car has 72k. the srs warning light went on for no reason. i read on the website and this seems to be a manufacture defect. i hope honda will have a recall to fix this problem for all the owners. *tr

Srs onboard failure for the second time despite entire sytem being replaced at 100 miles by honda burns in nj. now the repair is only paritally covered rendering a dangerous vehicle unless thousdands of dollars are spent to repair this system again!*cn

Air bags-srs light: light has been on a few weeks now, found that it is a honda problem. concerned about safety, will air bags deploy in a crash? also, nj will not pass inspection with light illuminated, not safe. main reason for purchase of the honda was the safety reputation. when will a recall/fix be issued? *tr

Srs light lights up along with the side airbag light. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the srs light illuminated. he found a recall for the srs light; however, the dealer stated that his vin was not included. the light has not yet been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 67,000. updated 03-04-08 *bf the dealer told the consumer she would have to pay to get the srs tested.

The srs light on my 2000 honda accord ex is on. this indicates a defect in the airbag system, increasing my risk for injury in an accident. honda should fix this problem under warranty as it is a common problem with this model. *tr

My 2000 honda accord ex v6 with about 94,000 miles has the srs light on permanently. the diagnostic code provided to me by the dealer is 5-8, which is internal srs failure, and requires the srs unit to be replaced. this is not covered under the current warranty extension (campaign code q08, service bulletin 06-009) for opds. given that the part is integral to the safety system, it seems that should have a much longer warranty. the car has not been involved in any sort of accident in two years, and previous accidents were minor rear end collisions (impacting the rear of my car). there was no incident to cause the srs light to remain on. *tr

I bought my honda accord this september. it had a rebuilt title due to minor dents and blemishes to the outside. no major wrecks. looked and seemed in good condition. dealer assured me that all of his cars were insurance claims due to minor exterior wear. he didn't take any cars that had been involved in wrecks. he was an "engineer" and didn't need to screw people over for money. i had my mechanic inspect it right away because it had a 30 day return policy, no questions asked. my regular mechanic said the engine was fine but there were minor things i needed such as; new rotors, new tires, and something to do with the emergency brake. his secretary said these were all optional things to have fixed. 1 month later...the radiator goes bad and must be replaced. my regular mechanic charges me $600.00 dollars for the procedure. i compare prices and find a better price for the same radiator. unfortunately, my regular mechanic still charges me $70.00 for his opinion. i go to the cheaper place, get a new radiator and have my rotors replaced. since about 2 weeks after owning the car i notice that the srs airbag light flashes on and off randomly. a $80.00 diagnostic check was performed and nothing showed up. my mechanic didn't notice it when he drove it. i still don't know if my airbags work! a month after that..transmission goes bad when in reverse. makes a terrible grinding of metal sound and lurches when put in reverse. probably needs a new transmission which i have no way to pay for. luckily, it is only a problem during the cold and/or when i first start the engine. im very worried about the safety of my car and myself! because i've had 3 different people assure me the car is in good shape, only to find out about or have a major problem occur. i don't feel safe in my mystery car! i bought a honda after being a loyal toyota customer because i thought they had the best reputation for long lasting vehicles. i'm thinking i made a mistake. please help lessen my worries. *tr

My car's srs airbag indicator has turned on, and the side airbag indicator turns on then and now. i researched on the internet to know that this is a common problem with 2000/01 honda accords. the airbags wont deploy because of this indicator even though the air bag system is not faulty. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the srs (safety restraint system) lights illuminated in her vehicle and would not dim. she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the passenger side seat belt switch was the cause of the failure. the manufacturer asked her to sign a release, but the contact refused. the parts for the repair were ordered in march of 2008 and when she called again in april 10, 2008, she was informed that the parts were on backorder. most recently, when she went to the dealer to check the status, she was informed that there was no record of the order. the current mileage was approximately 47,800 and failure mileage was 45,834. updated 06/16/08 *bf

Srs light has been on for over a year. the dealer said it would be very expensive to have it "looked at." recently, the o2 sensor came on and i've made 3 trips to have it fixed. it will cost me 420.20 to have the problem solved. i've been reading about recalls for this very problem, and as a senior, i'd sure appreciate some help. this doesn't seem fair. *tr

2000 4-door honda lx - on or about october 2007, its srs readiness indicator light illuminated. during its regular maintenance service, i took the car to honda santa ana, ca and complained about this situation. the srs light was reset only to find out after 3 days that it came back on. on january 2008 and march 2008, the same situation was handled by santa ana honda and after 6-10 days, the light turned on again and again. i was finally informed that the control panel to the srs unit was defective. because the warranty had expired long after this problem persisted, the service advisor indicated that if santa ana honda were to fix the equipment, it would cost me at least $1,600 which was reduced by 30% by its service manager john marker. it was then that i brought up the case to american north honda motor co inc and was handled by wayne at 1(800) 999-1009 ext. 118198. wayne called and informed me that they are participating to this repair by reducing the cost by $300. it didn't make logical sense to me that the consumer is liable for costs involved in fixing a safety-related device that came with the vehicle. the fact that both santa ana honda and north american honda are both contributing to the costs of this repair, tells me that this is a defect of the vehicle. my family's 1999 toyota camry and friends' 2000 toyota corolla never had their srs worn out in the course of time, why would honda have this problem? please assist me contact honda to carry the burden of this costs or extend the warranty. my current mileage is now 120,000. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact noticed that the srs warning light would consistently illuminate on the instrument control panel, which indicated that the air bags were inoperative. she took the vehicle to the dealer on two occasions and they performed routine maintenance, which temporarily corrected the issue. weeks later, the failure recurred and the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. she took her vehicle back to the dealer and they stated that she needed to replace both components at the discounted cost of $2,600. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact sent a letter to the manufacturer, but never received a response. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 122,000.

I have a 2000 honda accord se with 85k. my srs light recently came on and honda wants a $100 to check it out. my cousin has the same exact vehicle and had the same problem. so i decided to google the problem. it seems everyone is having the same issue. i haven't taking the car in yet to get it fixed because i don't have the money for them to diagnose the problem. but hopefully there will be some sort of recall since there is obviously a defect in the system and when the light is on the safety systems such as the airbags will not work. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the srs warning indicator light illuminated while basket was in the passenger seat. he restarted the vehicle, but the light remained illuminated. the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. the current and failure mileages were 120,000. updated 09/18/07 *tr

My srs light is on in my 2000 honda accord. the dealership is telling me this is not covered under a recall. *tr

Srs light came on and remains on for no apparent reason. side airbag light also comes on and flashes off while driving. car was never in an accident. *tr

My 2000 honda accord se v4 auto has the mileage of 86,000. no accident or anything. out of nowhere, srs light stayed on. i have nothing on or around the passage seat. the car does not have side airbags. it bothers me a lot because of safety concern. i called honda dealer and was told that they'd need the car during weekday for a whole day to diagnose, and cost would be from $150.00 and up. sky is the limit. besides, i can't go to work without the car or i have to rent a car myself. what a hassle. i am not sure if honda warranty covers srs light. i searched on the internet just to find out that i am not alone. *jb

I have a 2000 honda accord ex-v6 coupe and for about about a week now the srs light will not go out. i contacted honda and was told there was not a recall and warranty would not cover after 10 years or 150,000 miles (which ever came first) i have 188,000 on my car so i did some searching on the internet and was stunned to find so many people looking for a solution to get the srs light off. so if i am in a accident will the airbags deploy? i think someone should find out before a death results from this issue this is a safety hazard and should definitely be looked into. please do a little research and require honda to do a recall. *tr

Occupant position detection system fails. passenger seat sensor failed according to dealer diagnostics. item was repaired under warranty at 125,000 miles. same component has failed again 13 months later at 155,000 miles.

Srs light always on thus preventing deployment of airbags should an accident occur. *jb

Srs light came on at around 90,000 miles and has been on every since. it would light up occasionally before (began lighting up at around 70,000 miles) but now it is on all the time. *ak

I & my inlaw bought the 2000 honda accord ex in the same week (9/1999), after 7 years, the srs light came on at the same time with no incidents occurred. also in the last couple days, the brake light came on. i called honda manufacturer, they rejected the problem because only certain vehicle they cover up to 10 years on the opds (occupant position detection system) unit, which failed and caused the srs light came on. *tr

Without any reason whatsoever, srs light came on and dealer would not even diagnose the problem without a substantial payment. i've read on the web that many honda users experience this problem around 100k miles. air bags are federally mandated safety equipment like seatbelts. seatbelts are covered by life-time warranty and so should be the air bags. the customer should not have to pay for failures of life-saving equipment that is not due to wear and tear or accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 honda accord. while driving 30 mph, the contact crashed into the driver side door of another vehicle. the driver sustained injuries to her left leg and side. a police report was filed. the seat belt did not restrain her from moving forward and the air bag failed to deploy. the dealer replaced the seat belt buckle in june of 2007 and diagnosed the vehicle due to the srs light illuminating. in august of 2002, the srs was replaced due to recall number 02v051000 (seat belts:front:buckle assembly). honda also sent an investigator to inspect the vehicle and concluded that they were not responsible for the failure. the current mileage was 51,250 and failure mileage was 51,184. the consumer stated was severely injured with hernia on right side and fractured pelvis on left major surgery to be performed. the consumer further stated seatbelt did not restrain nor did airbags deploy. updated 09/10/07 *tr

The srs light wont go out .the air bags won't deploy if i am in a accident . *ak

The srs light on my 2000 honda accord ex indicating failure has illuminated for the secoind time. the first time i took the car to my honda dealereship and they rest the light, 1 minute job for $100. they said if it goes on again i may need a new system which can run up to $1000 or more. if this is an important safety component as defined by nhtsa, why is not covered by a lifetime warranty? *ak

I have a honda accord 2000 and the car has 72k. the srs warning light went on for no reason. i read on the website and this seems to be a manufacture defect. i hope honda will have a recall to fix this problem for all the owners. *tr

Srs light came on after 100,000. see honda accords in this year are notorious for these problems. honda dealer is trying to say before i even bring it in that it oculd be 20 diff. things setting this light on. think he will tell me it is not covered if it really is. there are several tsb's on this issue with many disatisfied honda owners.

I just bought a 2000 honda accord ex coupe a few months ago. having about 117,000 miles on it. the same month i bought it, the srs light has come on and and has been on ever since. *jb

2000 honda accord "srs"(safety restraint system) light is on and dealer is requesting 700.00 to fix a "faulty control unit". i have had my car over 6 years and only have 44k miles. *nm

I own a 2000 honda accord ex-v6. my srs light has come on twice now. the first time i had it reset by the dealer, and it cost me $100. they also claimed it was my front impact sensor. this vehicle has not been bumped or had an accident since i have owned it, so i fail to see how that could break. now, the second time, the srs light has again come on and has been on my dash for several months. i am fairly certain that i will not have a functional driver's side airbag if ever i am hit. this is a huge safety issue. i have read several similar complaints about this srs light situation on your site and many others. i believe that this problem warrants a recall, as the dealer is set to charge me close to $400 to replace the sensor and still cannot guarantee this will fix the problem in the long-term. since this is so prevalent, why is this not a priority??? this should be a recall or some sort of campaign, because frankly, many of us feel very unsafe. *jb updated 01/02/08. *lj updated 12/12/07 *tr

Srs light on indicates air bag system problem. dealer wants $100+ to test. *tr

side air bag: light comes on and turns off intermittently for no given reason. this has been happening since i bought the car in january 2007. tried to get assistance from buerkle honda who did not make any notes about my request. now tell me i need a new electrical system and that it means the air bags will not work. *tr

My srs light has been on since december 31, 2006. it is my understanding from the dealership that my airbags are now disabled and will most likely need to be replaced at a minimum cost of $1,300.00. based on the safety risks and the number of consumer complaints, honda should issue an immediate recall. *jb
