Transmission problem i bought this car about july 13 2016 tranny is slipping and sometime it will idol very hi than it jumps gears my daughter drive this car she is now scared to drive spoke to honda nothing they can do even thought thay have lots of complains from that that year spoke to the dealer he wont do anything either stated he will give me 1200 back went i bought it for 3200 than stated he will fix car bur i have to pay for it
My wife was driving one day doing our typical day to day stuff then the transmission @159000 miles starts not shifting or downshifting or when it shift its very jerky and sometimes we have to rev over 5000 rpms to get it to shift and d4 light starts flashing on the city streets we got it home i check fluids they were good added lil extra tranny fluid to be safe because it was below the first dot on dipstick then we drove fine for a day then today we went to an appt we had got there ok then on way back to the house the car starts not upshifting or down shifting no matter how you accelerate coming from dead stop at traffic light it revs up to 5000 rpms then jerks into gear and it went boom 1 boom 2 boom 3 and then the car starts rolling thru the traffic light and only at not only 5 mph then hits 4th gear then it goes safe road speed i have reviewed several online websites like this one http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2000/transmission/ and honda is not replacing them or fixing without charging close to 3k in repairs this car is not worth that money and then we have to replace the tranny for only having it maybe a month i do not feel safe in this car or want my family riding in it because if that tranny fails in middle of street then we are going to get sandwiched or cause a big mess and we don't want that to happen. being a military mechanic over revving the engine to get the vehicle to shift is not good you can blow you engine honda has not put any recalls out on this particular transmission
Transmission failed on 2000 honda accord v-6 at 105,000 miles. vehicle was in motion on a city street, right off highway exit, in an area with high traffic.
Just purchased a 2000 accord on sat 8-22-15. body looks great, runs shifts great, but when attempting oil change i realized passenger side front subframe is completely gone. yes, gone. it's missing @4 inches of metal which has obviously rusted away, with surrounding metal rusted. driver side looks perfect. same part, two different places, acting completely different.

At less than 70,000 miles the transmission on my 2000 honda accord ex is failing, even though the car has barley been driven. i started to experience delayed gear engagement, both on up shifts and downshifts as well as transmission fluid leakage which was initially diagnosed as a bad left side axle seal. when the mechanic proceeded to fix the axle seal, he then re diagnosed the problem as bad bearings and a faulty transmission, a very common problem with the 2000 & 2001 accords. since then i have taken the car to several other mechanics and transmission specialists for a second opinion, who have reached the very same conclusion/diagnosis. a vast majority of the transmissions on the 2000 and 2001 accords have failed or are having problems. the scary part is all the transmission shops are familiar with this issue, some of them see an accord or an odyssey (similar problem) once a week! from my personal experience/investigation the common consensus is; the honda transmissions from the late 90's were bulletproof because they were specifically built for the cars from the 90's. however, when honda upgraded the size of their engines and power, honda used the same 90's transmissions, which in the long run could no longer handle the larger engine capacity or the extra power and eventually fail. in 2006 honda was hit with a class-action lawsuit for the faulty transmissions. honda settled the matter out of court by extending the transmission warranty to 93 months or 109,000 miles. however, honda never corrected the problem by redesigning the transmissions or provided a fix. instead, honda simply replaced the old faulty transmissions with new transmissions that still had the same faulty design. now, all the transmission in those cars are failing as well and honda denies any responsibility, claiming the transmissions are out of warranty. *tr
While driving, transmission randomly slipped to neutral and would not go back to driving. white suv behind me ended up small colliding with my back bumper. *tr
Vehicle was being driven on the highway when attempting to go up a hill the car lost power past 3 and 4 gear. would pull car over let it cool of and continue a few more miles down the road for it to do the same thing. car is now parked in my driveway unable to be drove. *tr
I recently took my car to honda with problems accelerating up a hill and sometime on flat land and they told me i needed a new transmission at a cost of $4300. i asked to speak with a service manager because i only take my car to honda to be serviced and now all of a sunden i need a new transmission. well the service manager told me the transmissions on the 2000 honda accord ex v6 were bad. this prompted me to go online and do research, and there were a whole lot of complaints. these complaints stated a lot of issues i had with my car when i first got it specifically i couldnt get my car to shift out of gear from park. my car broke down on me so much in the earlier years it was ridiculous. so i called honda to no avail since i felt my issues were covered up when i had a warranty with them. they said they couldnt help me im at 116,000 miles and they extended the mileage to 109,000 on their transmissions. i would say that this is bad business for honda. they should have done a recall. they sevice techs should have been more thorough. *tr

Check engine light kept coming on and wouldn't go off. car was struggling to automatically shift into gear. when it got really hot, car would not start up right away. would take several times of having one foot on brake and one foot on gas to get it to start again.transmission is acting like it is slipping. just bought this used car last year. local honda dealership, don wessel, of springfield, missouri acted like everything was fine with the car when we bought it. took it in there they got the check engine light to go off but then it came back on a few days later. tried to get them to fix it but they wouldn't. took it to another place they, hooked it up to the computer and said that all cylinders were misfiring, and that there was a problem with transmission. trying to find a place to fix the transmission. we think dealership should fix it since we bought it there and they did not think anything was wrong even after we brought it back and told them that check engine light was still on and car is still acting up. *tr
On may 29, 2014 our daughter was driving our car and had just dropped a friend off at the bus station, after the friend got out of the car, she pulls off and goes around a corner and the car accelerates and jumps a curb, uproots a tree, hits a parked car, which crashes into another parked car. our car was totaled. i think the other car was totaled and the other car had moderate damage. our daughter had a gash in her arm and a lot of bumps and bruises. my daughter is scared to death to drive. i would like to see honda fix this problem, this is not the first incident, nor will it be the last. *tr

Dashboard light go out without notice and they turn back on at times. unable to see at night the speedometer. gears in car jerk while driving at all times from gear to gear, signs of sand like metal residue in transmission fluid when changed. i purchased the vehicle a little over a year ago and did not think much of it until it became worse and i began to research the possible issues. *tr

Experiencing transmission problem which honda is refusing to repair/replace. honda is aware of this problem and has extended the warranty to 7 year 7 months or 109k miles but my car happens to fail just outside of the warranty. the on time scheduled maintenance and proper treatment is probably to blame. consider this as my formal complaint against honda for not standing behind their product and inadequate customer service. *tr
I was driving my honda accord on a residential street, when the transmission started to shift erratically. the d4 light started to flash and the 'check engine' light came on. the honda dealership that serviced the vehicle told me that the transmission had failed. this from a car that i had purchased six weeks earlier. luckily the incident happened on a vacant road and not a highway on-ramp where smooth shifting is a life or death scenario. *tr

Transmission was starting to jerk forward and balking when starting from a start. transmission started to over heat. my son said that the car seamed to just give out on highway and scared him as it caused a strange feeling of something terrible wrong. now when transmission is put into reverse a very startling noise like a loud bang is happening. now i am afraid to let my son because of safety reasons use it. i am on a fixed income and i always take care of this car, but this is just going to break me to try to get fixed. i have read so many complaints since i started to investigate this problem that i just can't believe that honda and the nhtsa has not remedied this dangerous and expensive problem. i had the same problem with toyota on rusting frame rails that almost killed me and my daughter. i had to try to sell my tacoma truck at more than half its resale value, because toyota just like honda just wont admit or fix this serious problem. by the time the nhtsa did get toyota to do something about the unsafe frame rust most of us owners had already had to try to get what ever money we could try to get. it was horrible to lose all that money and try to get another vehicle. now honda is playing with nhtsa and it is starting all over again for a lot of us honda owners.what more can us owners do to get our fair share. i know i filed a complaint against toyota and now honda. i hope nhsta does something fast because as of now i have no car to use. lets right this now. i know that a lot of hard working people deserve better than what honda is even thinking of doing or not doing to right this problem. *tr
This is a manufacturer's fault as it is mentioned on the web as well as by auto shops about the transmission. the car can stop anytime! i have spent thousands of $$ already fixing other parts and cannot fix this problem as this is a known problem/default from the manufacturers. please all raise your voice and have the company take care of this as they are not helping me in this matter! *js

Transmission & internal parts failure during very busy morning drive in atlanta>>>almost caused a multiply car collusion>>>>part of the junk honda has put in these cars & denied any liability>>>>also have an )@ odyssey with a junk transmission>>>i will never buy another honda>>>anyone need some honda garbage cheap? *tr
Ignition key can be removed when the shifter is in non-park position and couple of times when this happened, the vehicle rolled away. this failure symptom was captured in nhtsa 05v-025, but, when asked, honda motor company responded that the nhtsa mandate didn't include this vin number. this suggests there may a reason to expand the vin numbers affected by this mandate. *tr
Warning light and the vehicles can't drive more than 20 miles an hour. this happens a few times within the last 6 months. park the car for a few days and the problem goes away for a few weeks. this has not happen on the freeway, if it has, we would have an accident for sure. it happens again 2 days ago while driving and d4 lights came on, the car can't go more than 20 miles/hr on residential street. *tr
I am the original owner and bought my 2000 honda accord brand new from the same dealership that has done 99% of the maintenance on the vehicle, minus a few oil changes. the car has had a "hard" shift at times for approximately a year. i had never thought much about it until the last few weeks when the car started to rev up at low gears and then violently jerking to shift to higher gear. this in addition to also displaying check engine light constantly while green d or drive light is blinking. when this occurs the car will not accelerate when gas pedal is depressed for a few seconds and then will slowly begin to go. i was almost rear ended twice on my way home with my 7 year old son in his booster seat. the car would act like it was going to go and then i had no power, could not even get over to the curb. closest dealership is 30 minutes away via interstate and after reading multiple online complaints and stories of near fatal accidents online i am at a loss as to how to handle this. dealership told me it was okay to drive as long as engine light was steadily on. luckily, i am in walking distance to my job, but i need to make a decision on how to proceed. it appears that honda has known of the defective transmission, but i never received a letter in the mail alerting me to the fact i was facing possible total transmission failure that could have endangered not only myself, but my small son and those drivers around me. i have read that honda will not offer any financial compensation for replacement of the defective transmission. i am going to continue to research the issue, but if this is accurate it is a shame as i have owned two honda's and always bragged about how much i loved driving my honda. not thrilled about owning a vehicle made by a company who is aware of a serious safety hazard and does not do a better job of alerting their loyal customers. *tr
Transmission became unreliable, never shifts properly, and sometimes doesn't shift at all. i have to pull over and wait a while until traffic is clear, then i try again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically become stuck in second gear. when the vehicle independently shifted out of second gear, it would cause a violent jerking motion. the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the failure would recur mostly in colder weather. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 148,000 and the current mileage was 168,000.
Transmission in 2000 honda accord was diagnosed by two mechanics (independent and honda dealer) as requiring replacement quoted at over $3800. symptoms included: gear shift slippage, d4 indicator light flashing, delayed gear engagement, erratic and harsh shifting resulting in the car lurching forward while in drive, atf leak, erratic acceleration, and the left differential diagnosed with excessive play. car had been well maintained, keeping all fluid levels monitored and in check with routine maintenance. after calling honda america, i was told that "due to age" the "company's position" was that they were unable to provide assistance of any kind despite previous reports of the transmission in 2000 accords as being a known manufacturer's error/faulty production. honda admitted error on the issue but remained firm that they would not support resolution. am left with vehicle in undrivable condition that is unsafe on the road due to erratic transmission behavior. at one point, the vehicle lurched forward uncontrollably, nearly hitting a pedestrian. request nhtsa follow-up and investigation of ongoing transmission issues with these vehicles, encouraging consumer resolution options for honda owners. resolution should not be limited to age of vehicle when safety of consumers and other drivers are at hand. these vehicles should not be allowed on the road with faulty transmissions. had i been aware of the safety issue, i would not have purchased my honda. thank you! *kb
Honda accord transmission failed at 84000 miles. never received letter form honda motor corp to have it checked. extended warranty for 109,000 miles to 2007. never notified. now paying 2100 out of pocket to change. not to mention serious slipping issue while driving. should have sent certified letter. dangerous and expensive. *tt
The transmissions on my 2000 honda accord lx v6 started slipping then erratically revving up to 4000 rpms then shift all the sudden. and most of the time when i shift to reverse it just does a huge clunk noise and a sudden hard shift then goes into reverse. my honda only have 93,000 miles. *tr
2000 honda accord received transmission replacement. consumer states two months after the replacement she is experiencing the same issue. *kb the consumer stated the gears would slip and grind upon accelerating from a stop position and while driving. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. while stopped at a traffic signal the contact removed pressure from the brake pedal when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. the contact placed the vehicle in neutral while applying pressure to the brake pedal and parked the vehicle. the contact shut the vehicle off and restarted the engine. the vehicle accelerated on its own twice. the contact could also hear a grinding sound in the transmission. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were notified and stated they could not provide assistance because the warranty had expired. the approximate failure mileage was.
My transmission seems to 'overheat'. the car will start and go fine when cold but when the engine gets hot the transmission slips badly. *tr
Automatic transmission has been slipping hard for quite some time. transmission has always been checked at regular scheduled maintenance. transmission fluid has been replaced according to manufacturer's maintenance schedule. on 4/24/11 transmission would not engage while merging on a busy road, almost causing an accident. transmission would not engage into 1st gear returning vehicle to home. this vehicle has very low mileage. *tr
My 2000 honda accord transmissions has began to slip on march 28,2011 as i was making a delivery for my job traveling uphill ,i got a couple of readings from a mechanic which was codes p730,p740,&p780 it hasn't stopped and continues to slip as i drive at any speed & slips everytime i drive.i had a mechanic clean the solenoids and do a transmission fluid flush for $200.00,i also added lucas transmission slip stop and problem still occur.i got an estimate for repair for the transmission for $3000.00. *tr
Bought this accord for my 16 year old daughter because is was a safe reliable car to start with. it was impeccably maintained by the dealer. she told me that the car was starting to "jerk" when driving it. i confirmed it was "jerking". i went online and found that honda has had significant transmission problems with this model and several. now i'm looking at a significant repair or probably replacement of the transmission. i contacted the dealer and they told me it will require a new transmission without even looking at it. *tr
Transmission failed while in rush hour traffic. almost caused a side collision at intersection after d4 light came on and engine light. *tr
Transmission has begun slipping, jerking badly. when coming to a full stop, noticeable jerk of transmission. when starting from full stop, significant drag, then thump as transmission engages. *tr
