Since i bought my truck i have been having multiple problems with the engine and transmission i've tried multiple times to contact the dealership to get my car looked at and they do not respond back to me i feel like they act as if i did no business with them on purchasing my car

Transmission will not engage in any gear, has gone completely nonfunctional. i have researched the problem and notice that every complaint is the same regrading the transmission. same mileage as others and this problem occurs, there needs to be a recall on this matter.

Transmission not functional, will not engage into any gear, and went out while driving. i've seen multiple complaints online with sane problem. recall needs to be done.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. while driving, the transmission was shifting into a lower gear and the vehicle could not exceed 2 mph. the vehicle was pulled over and towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine seized. the contact researched and learned that the failure was due to the engines of the 2011 gm models. denooyer chevrolet (127 wolf rd, albany, ny 12205, (518) 458-7700) stated that there was no recall for the failure and admitted that there was no way the contact could have known the engine would seize. the manufacturer agreed with the dealer and informed the contact that they had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and pay for labor costs. the manufacturer stated that they may consider paying 10% of the total repair cost. the vehicle was currently at the independent mechanic and had not been repaired. the manufacturer called back and stated that they might help pay off the vehicle loan as long as the contact purchased another gm vehicle. the failure mileage was 81,000.

My car has cut off on me approximately 12 times in the last week. almost cause a wreck one time because it happened while i was pulling out onto the highway. luckily i was able to coast out of traffic in time. usually happens when when i'm at a low speed or sitting idle.

Almost a month after my oil change my engine started making noise and cutting off. when i took it to get checked, they said that my oil was gone and my engine is failing. now my car is just sitting at the dealership, because the price is gonna be to high. is their a recall for my 2011 g.m.c terrain

Rear main seal blew. i was told that my rear main seal had blown b/c moisture can get in and freeze and since it was so cold the pressure caused the seal to blow. i started the car ahead of time b/c it was in the single digits. when i went outside to leave i noticed some smoke coming from the engine area. i immediately drove to the dealership. as i was driving i noticed some hesitation upon acceleration. thankfully i did not have to drive the highway to get to the dealership. as soon as i got it to the service department they told me that there was oil leaking under my car to the point that they had to add 3.5 quarts of oil before they could move it to a service bay. after a short examination of the car i was told that the rear main seal had blown. i also found out that 10 other cars had the same issue at the same dealership that same day and 4 the next day. i checked for recalls and found gm service bulletin 14882 but was told that b/c my car vin number was not the on their list and was manufactured at a different plant that mine would not fall under the recall. it should not matter where the car was manufactured it is obviously a defective part or design. if it a defective part or design it should be fixed on all cars and not just some as i was informed the same parts were used at the different plants. i was fortunate that this did not cause a major accident when the car hesitated to accelerate.

Airbag light came on at 125k miles. known problem on this year/make/model is airbag sensor on passenger side. 90k miles timing chain replaced. 154k miles timing chain broke 3 qrts of oil needed every 2k miles 154k miles transmission leaking fluid 100k miles catalytic converter needed replaced 125k miles downstream air sensor needed replaced 150k miles upstream air sensor needed replaced solenoids need replaced every 50k miles

We purchased a 2011 gmc terrain may 29th 2018 used with 70000 miles from the hazleton nissan from the hazleton auto mall here in pa. it now has 78000. had two oil changes done already. there is definitely a excessive oil consumption problem with this vehicle as i just got a oil change hut the 50 percent oil life and having issues again. we have contacted hazleton nissan found out they were closing after signing a " set for life" contract which had a powertrain warranty. now i cannot use my warranty.anyway i was driving home tonight from work on interstate 81 when the car without warning just cut off and lost all power. he got it to the side of the highway and had to put it in neutral and restart it. after it started he brought it to a gas station where it had stalled again. got it almost home and stalled again. god forbid my children were in this car when this car decided to cut off and he had no brakes no steering nothing. nissan in hazleton was aware of this and i can't even use my warranty that they signed and i signed. i was promised something that i cannot use. gmc had a call from us around 73000 miles and i told them it was clicking and stalling. they wouldn't touch it bc nissan is the one who sold it to me and the contract was with them, but they are no longer open so what do i do now? i cannot afford a huge fix hence why i got this car bc the warranty and i wouldn't have to pay for anything if it fell under the powertrain which it is. if i needed a new motor i would get one for free see what i am saying? someone could seriously get hurt or even die and this is our only vehicle can someone please help me? kept up with all oil changes also. this is very dangerous and should be fixed. i fear for my wife and children as they always are using this car.

The car was taken into steven lust automotive and we were told that a transfer seal needed to be replaced and that gmc was aware of the issue but would only warranty the issue if the car was produced in a certain factory. same year same model all having same issue but produced in a different plant. now the stabililtrac warning comes on and from research on the web this is a common issue that they are aware of also but refuse to fix. this car only has 66000 miles on it. we also contacted gmc and they told us that they are aware of the problem but will not warranty it unless is was produced at a certain factory. when the stabilitrac warning was noted i was driving down the highway and the engine just shut down. i do believe this issue is due to the excessive oil leak coming from the seal. this is the second time that i have placed this complaint. when i called to confirm that i placed the complaint no one could find it.

The gmc jerks forward and it almost hit person in front. then when it shift from 2nd to 1st it jerks down into a stall. someone could rear end me. because of the suddenness of the stop.

Vehicle was financial 18 months ago, on thursday, july 26 approximately 11p.m. i heard racing of the motor and when i approached the traffic light at a main highway, the car stopped moving just racing of the motor when pressing the gas petal in gear then l moved the gear in rear with no movement then moved the gear back to drive with no movement. the car diagnosis codes are po700 and po796 i am very disappointed after only having the terrain 1.5 years with an ongoing payment. this was my dream car.

Engine problem

Abs light is on even after fixing the supposed problem. system stabilitrak constantly on. excessive use of oil. 2 to 3 quartz every 2 weeks. reduced engine power comes up on dash and no matter how fast i am going (15 mph or 80 mph on a highway) it doesnt matter my car will slow down or just shut off. also happens when i have to hit braked hard, slow down or accelerate from a stopped position. i am also using a lot of gas.

Stalls when slowing down or letting off acceleration... loses all power steering, abs braking. difficult and dangerous as it happens at any speed. highway, city street, turning, etc.

After a 2 hour highway drive i noticed the vehicle began running loud, a rattling noise coming from the engine as i was getting off the highway. after parking and shutting the vehicle down and letting it rest, i went to restart it. again it was still loud but quickly shut itself off and would not start back up. upon inspection, the timing chain went out causing, to quote the service manager, "catastrophic engine damage" that was well beyond able to be repaired.

I was having problems with my brakes making noise so i took the car in for service, i was told the brakes was fine; however the noise continued and a month late i took it back and was told i needed pads, rotors and that the left cv axle was rusted and needed to be replaced. 2 days later i was told my car was ready and that the cv axle was replaced. i left and within 30 minutes as i was about to get on the highway, i heard a pop and lose all control of the terrain, my the only way i could stop the vehicle was by placing the emergency brakes, the car was making a loud noise. i put it in parked and it continue to roll until i turned it off. even the tow truck driver stated that the car was rolling in the park position. i'm thankful that i and my kids were not killed because i literally had no control of the car. now that the car has been towed back to the dealership, i was told the new cv axle was malfunctioned. honestly, i'm still paying for this vehicle and do not feel safe driving it.

While driving on the highway at 45 mph, the vehicle remained running but abruptly stopped. i could have been hit from behind with serious consequences. it left me stranded on a 2 lane road unable to move out of the lane. this is a serious problem with this vehicle. gm needs to address this problem.

I was driving on the highway and the car cut off as soon as i slowed down getting off the exit. i started the car back up and it said that the stabilitrack was off and that i was losing engine power. i got to safety, checked my fluids and i had no oil in the car. but i changed the oil recently and had 3,000 more miles till my next oil change. i towed the car to my mechanic and described what happened. he told me that their was an internal engine failure that caused the timing belt to break. i called my insurance and they had a field adjuster look at the vehicle and he nor the mechanic could figure out why or how this happened on such a well maintained vehicle. they both stated that there is no way that i should have had 2 major system failures (i just replaced the transmission) with the current vehicle mileage. i called gmc and they will not so anything to help me. their only solution is for me to tow it to a gmc dealership and they will look at it. i could've died in this car, i still owe on this car and they won't help me.

Vehicle(automatic) will stall while driving, has happened multiple times on freeway. mechanics are not discovering any issues, vehicle has regular maintenance. there has been times where the vehicle would not go into reverse and would jerk then shut off, it seems there is an issue with gears/transmission. have researched online and there are many similar complaints of stalling vehicles while driving.

While i was driving 35-45 miles per hour the truck turned off on its own so i parked truck on the side of the road. i waited a few minutes and tried to turn vehicle on again, it turned on again and i continued driving 20-30 per hour. then after being stopped at a red light when it turned green i stepped on the gas and there was a loud sound plus we felt like it had jumped.

I purchased my car brand new in april of 2011. i didn't even have it a year and i had to take it in 3 different times for stalling. the engine light never came on therefore they couldn't pull a code to know what exactly was wrong but because it was under warranty, they just started replacing parts. the very first time it stalled they told me to watch what kind of gas i was putting it. they told me to try only going to mobil, bp or shell. i shook my head the whole time they were saying this but to rule it out for them, that's what i did. obviously that wasn't the problem. then, upon a cold start, the engine was very loud and made a rattling noise. again, no engine light. the whole time i've had the vehicle it hesitates when pulling into traffic sometimes. sometimes the kick back it gives off is so big that it actually jerks your body forward. i've had the car for 6 years and have over 10 receipts from dealerships for taking it in over the yrs.they have "replaced/fixed" cam auctor solonoids, actuator, tensioner, timing chain, catalytic converter, gasket, manifold and piston..to name a few.the other day i noticed a slight grinding noise when turning right.i went straight home and was going to have my friend listen to it so we could figure out where it was possibly coming from.within 2 hrs just sitting in the driveway the grinding became 20x worse and extremely loud! i couldn't even back it out of my driveway without it sounding like my whole entire engine was going to fall out.we were thinking it was the transfer case/transmission.i had to have it towed to the dealership where they called me a few hrs later only to confirm it was the transfer case and it will be $2,400 bc it's no long under warranty.i have numerous receipts showing ongoing issues with this and other things.i'm furious and disappointed.i bought a new car to feel safer in and i haven't felt that once!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. upon starting the vehicle, the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. updated 09/06/17*lj *cn

The vehicle is consuming up to 2 qts of oil every 1000 miles. the low oil level light does not illuminate, even when the oil level falls below 2 qts low.

At approximately 80,000 miles, the transmission weight plates disintegrated, fouling the controlling modules. the transmission needs to be entirely rebuilt or replaced. first scheduled transmission service for this vehicle is at 100,000 miles. this occurred during normal highway driving, stranding us.

Vehicle transmission will suddenly drop into 2nd gear while driving and refuse to shift further. this caused vehicle to suddenly drop speed on highway from 65mph to 40 mph with no prior warning. vehicle will also suddenly drop out of manual transmission mode, also without warning or indication.

Exhaust manifold cracked between cylinders 2 and 3 upstream oxygen sensor from hot exhaust gases from the leak passing on the wires and heater element within the oxygen sensor and exhaust manifold top heat shield. carbon monoxide leaking through floor board

I have a 2011 gmc terrain about 62390 miles. when i am accelerating the car jerks. i took it to the dealer they state they could not find nothing wrong. i just got the fuel pump replaced due to a recall. and now a light came on that read ac off due to high engine temp but the temperature gauge showed cold and it never went to normal after being on for 20 mins and to this day is goes to the notch right before normal. also when the fuel is low the light does not come on. i called the dealership and they stated they have to duplicate the problem to fix it but i cant bring it in until 12/16/2016 because they are booked

We have a 2011 gmc terrain that is 91,000miles. this morning on the way to work, underneath the car just making a huge clicking sound. when the car slow and stop, it makes huge wheezing sound and unable to shift when trying to accelerate. we brought to the gmc dealer right away (thank god, we were close to the dealer), and they said we need to replace transmission and it costs $5,000!!!! they say the fuel line has all kind of metals particle in it, so there is no way of knowing what exactly the problem is, it's better off to replace transmission. this car is under 91,000 miles and we have to replace transmission!!! i then do more research online just to find out there are many similar complaints about gmc terrain's transmission problems. it all went down without any warnings and the car can't even make to 100k miles. i believe gm aware of this but choose to not fixing this, leaving the consumer to deal with the problem, since it happens shortly after the warranty expired. transmission is most important part in a car, if my car can't even make to 100k without replacing transmission, what about other parts in the car?? how am i going to put my trust in gm car in the future? we love american car and support american products, but if gm couldn't stand up and fix the problem, then we'll be forcing to get different car other than gm.

Timing chain broke while reversing out of driveway into road causing engine to stop.

It has a loud knocking sound which gets louder with the a c on.

The car did not change gears at the ?proper? time, and then when the brakes were applied or acceleration was ended the car would hard shift to the next gear. it is almost as if the gear was locked into place by the acceleration. because of this shifting issue, it feels like the car is bucking, which can be a potential safety issue for myself and my family. issue mainly occurs on slope like conditions in the 25 to 35 mile per hour range, our car is up to date on all recalls per dealer, they were unable to replicate the issue, but replaced the shift stick, this also prevents the car from shifting gears by accident i.e. without the button pushed, this repair has corrected the manual shifting issue. the automatic shift issue still remainsthe car has less then 50k miles. the issue was 1st discovered in the mountains of pa on the 80 hwy the stickiness was between all gears but mostly 1st/2nd and 3nd/4nd since we are back in the city we can only deal with 1/2 gear on the hwy and this problem persists. when doing basic research on this issue i noticed that others experienced a similar problem in 2011 shortly after the cars release, but a flash to the emc "fixed" the problem. our dealer says that all recalls and software are up to date. last occurrence 7/26/16 we dont drive the car much since then.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving approximately 65 mph. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power train belt failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. while driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission began to hesitate and jerked. in addition, the transmission slipped gears intermittently with a rapid loss of engine oil. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to locate the failure. the transmission fluid was flushed however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

I own a 2011 gmc terrain. put the vehicle in reverse and backed out of the driveway, then i put the vehicle in drive and it wouldn't go forward.therefore, i put in reverse and backed back into the driveway i took it to the dealership and was told that the torque converter went bad on the transmission. *tr

We bought this and had it three months when the transmission went out at less that 80000 miles. it lost power and also had lost oil after just having the oil changed. supposedly it was "dry" and also no transmission fluid. it had just been serviced and have the proof of servicing. it took us three months to find a transmission to put in it, since we were still making payments on it!! had to get a rental car for three months. it was a nightmare. we both believe that gm knows this vehicle make and model transmissions are faulty. we were very disappointed. we had owned a jimmy with 300000 miles on it. very disappointed in this vehicle. *tr

Started car and shifted from park to reverse. car did not change into gear. car was in neutral. shifted to drive and still no gear change. shifted to manual drive mode and still did not shift. turned car off and back on, then gear changes were made. second time this occurred in about three months. *tr

We bought it used in 2013 and shortly after it started have serious issues . it started with the traction control light coming on and it power down. then it would stay running spitting and sputtering after we turned the key off . so then we received a letter stating there is a recall and take it to the dealership to have it fixed . so they fixed it or at least they said it was , so we continued to drive it and the engine light came on and stayed on so i took it back and they said it was the throttle body and catalytic convert . then we changed those parts and it still has the engine light on and spitting and sputtering after we turn the key off.

Oil smells like gas. head linear fell down very poor gas mileage engine runs ruff has poor acceleration. *tr

Since i first purchased the car, it has given nothing but issues, the ac went out while still under warranty, it was fixed so i thought, it broke down again and because i was unable to describe word by word, i was told it would not be covered since it was not the same issue and i no longer had the warranty. a mechanic told me that gmc installed really cheap ac compresors/unit and he has had a lot of customers with same issue. it is a shame that we pay so much money in the purchase of a vehicle and in return we get a piece of junk. i need help.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. the contact stated that there was an oil leak and the vehicle shifted erratically. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where it was confirmed that there was an oil leak and the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the transmission was eventually replaced but both failures recurred. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 26,000.

2011 gmc terrain. consumer writes in regards to vehicle's performance and request assistance with repair *tgw the consumer at about 6,000 miles, the vehicle started jerking when picking up speed. the jerking would usually occur while increasing speed when it would get to approximately 18-40 mph. the vehicle also stalled twice; once when backing out of a parking space, and the second time when moving forward from a parking space. when driving the car for the first 2,000 miles, the consumer stated she drove the vehicle in standard mode. thereafter, she drove in economy mode. when the vehicle started jerking and hesitating, she stopped driving in economy mode. when the consumer arrived at the dealer, she was informed a recall was issued 6-8 weeks prior. however, the consumer never received a notice. the recall was performed and the dealer stated the problem she was experiencing was an extension of the recall issue. the vehicle did not stall anymore after the recall issue was fixed. however, the jerking did continue. the consumer returned to the dealer, but they insisted there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, as it was a normal characteristic. the consumer went to the dealership where the vehicle was leased to have them inspect it. they stated the shift adaptive learns needed to be rest. the consumer stated after leaving the dealership and driving several blocks, the jerking returned. *jb

While the car is idling, and moving at crawling speeds it stalled out 3 times, both in drive, and reverse. *tr

I have a 2.5 month old 2011 gmc terrain. at 4984 miles it is in the shop for stalling, for a horrible rattle upon start up, and for it jerking between first and second gear. when i took it in this morning it had stalled six times within the past 2 days. it stalls after start-up in forward and reverse and it stalled three times while in idle in a fast food drive-thru. there is also the rattling which happens on cold and warm starts, whether the a/c or eco mode are on. it sounds like metal rattling and like it is harming the engine. the least of my worries, is the fact that between 25-35 miles an hour the transmission shifts very hard and kicks myself and passengers forward. apparently there is a tech bulletin that has been out for the rattle for several months. why not fix them before they sell them? also, there is a recall #11195 for "rough idle, poor driveability" that doesn't show up on the nhtsa site or anywhere else but the gmc dealer's computer. additionally, despite the claims, i have never gotten better than 21 mpg while driving this car including an all highway trip from michigan to indiana. i think it is false advertising and the fuel economy in eco or not is not what they claim when the y sold the vehicle to me. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 gmc terrain. the contact stated that the vehicle would jerk violently and sputter when accelerating. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer four times and was told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and it was performing as designed. the contact was concerned because the vehicle had also stalled on a few occasions without warning. in addition, the vehicle would jerk when driving 16-18 mph. the failure mileage was 6,000 and the current mileage was 9,000.

The transmission shifting is erratic and creates a problem when in heavy down town traffic where there is stop and go traffic. car will hesitate before it goes into proper gear.this is the 4 cylinder model i am driving.very had shift from 1st to 2nd gear at all times.i do not allow any of my family to drive this car because it has become a safety issue in my opinion. *tr

The transmission shifts hard and jerks at times, dealer states it shifted fine when they drove it. it happens mostly in slow rush hour traffic. i will see if it contiuues and drive it with the dealer on the next visit. is has only 8000 miles on it. *tt

About a month after purchasing this brand new vehicle, there were several times that after starting the car & putting it into gear, it stalled. there has also been times that after driving it for a while & coming to a stop sign, then getting ready to pull out into traffic, it either stalls or hesitates. there were a few close calls where there could have been a major accident. taking this to the dealer did nothing. they said they have heard of this before, but unless it did it at their dealership, they couldn't fix the problem. another issue i have had is that many times the transmission doesn't shift properly & it revs up more than it should before actually shifting & when it does, there is a major clunk. i have owned many cars in my lifetime, this car always on startup, makes a terrible noise at first which to me sounds like it's not getting any oil or that the bearings have a problem. that noise goes away after a few seconds. another issue i have, as do all other terrain owners, is that the sticker on the window from gm when buying this car, stated that this car would get 23 mpg city, & 32 mpg highway. most all my miles are highway miles, & the most i ever get is 22 mpg. this was the main reason for buying this car in the first place. i think gm should be held accountable for this grossly mis-representation of what i would be getting for gas mileage. i am not that wealthy where i can just go out & buy a new car every year, but am fearful that with the car stalling out whenever it feels like, that i may have an accident. i am also not thrilled with the noise it make when i start it, & wonder how long before it doesn't run. i now have 36,000 miles on it with these issues, my last vehicle that i traded in for this had 250,000 trouble free miles. gm needs to buy this back, or lifetime warranty on motor along with free gas to make up for the 10 mpg i'm not getting. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2011 gmc terrain. the contact stated that while ascending an incline or turning at 25 to 40 mph, the vehicle downshifted and lost power. the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure where it was found that the transmission's third gear had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,800 and the current mileage was 26,902. *tr

3 problems with my 2011 gmc terrain awd, 2.4 liter 1. poor gas mileage - averaging 18.8 miles for a vehicle rated 20 city, 29 hwy. i drive 42 miles daily, 4 city, 38 hwy. dealer checked, no codes and states "operating as per deigned intent" 2. jerky transmission shifts and severe hesitation on startup and slow speeds in eco mode. dealer checked, no codes and states "operating as per deigned intent" 3. engine "knock" on startup that last from 3 to 10 seconds, normally on "cold" startup. dealer checked and could not duplicate complaint, checked cam phaser screens per service bulletin and states no debris is present. dealer states no codes are present and nothing they can do. oil and oil filter were changed at my request. engine knock and poor gas mileage still exist, transmission issue seems to have changed to normal and slightly hard shifting now after dealer visit. *tr
