In sept. 2017, the dealer fixed the catalytic converter b/c it was under a "special warranty" for free however i had to pay $582 to replace the cracked manifold which caused the converter issue. i recently went to the dealership b/c the check engine light came on again, the catalytic converter is still under warranty and they have to fix the oil consumption problem the is under a "special coverage" and again i was told that i had to pay for another cracked manifold. i asked what causes it and why and was told they did not know but i believe it must have to do with the original catalytic converter issue. i understand that there is a special coverage to fix the cc however something must be causing it to fail and gm is aware of it.
I own a 2010 gmc terrain, i had to replace the timing belt mid 2016 which cost around $2000 , now less than 3 years later i'm told it needs replaced again, another $2400 this time. my vehicle is barley over 100,000 miles. this is absolutely ridiculous. of course the first time my warranty had just expired and the replacements warranty is 12 months/12,000 miles. so of course not covered again. i would think that gmc would want to address this as an issue. almost 4000 in repairs and vehicle less than 10 years old and apparently 108,000 miles. i've seen several other complaints online and feel gmc should help cover the repairs or do a recall and cover it. i won't by another gmc.
Pcv system has a service bulliten on this. pcv system froze uo causing the rear main seal to blow out.
While driving my car the stabili-track service light comes on. then the check engine, brake, abs, awd, as well as the power steering lights come on. then i lose power steering and my speed is throttled down a lot. its happened on the expressway and city streets. when on the expressway i have to immediately get to the shoulder without getting into an accident. i've had my car towed to the mechanics shop multiple times and they've told me that there are no codes when hooking up the computer. they kept it a few times in the last 3 years and have told me there were misfires after letting the car sit and testing it out (test driving) and work was needed (throttle body replacement, spark plug replacement, cam shaft swap out and a full tune-up). $1000 and less than a year later it happens again and then again. this is the 3rd year (2016, 2017, 2018) it has happened to me in a row and all the mechanic can say is that it may be something gm should investigate. i've called gm with no luck. this is extremely unsafe and i am thankful that my kids were not in the car when it happens. trying to navigate traffic on the expressway when your car throttles down to 25-35 mph is insane.
At stop light car kept turning off. first start start shaking then turn off. several times. almost got hit in rear of car several times. about 3 weeks. took to shop c & m. in ny. had to stay in ny 2 weeks. timing chain. broken. and engine light. paid $1500.00, had 3 oil changes. have to keep adding motor oil.
Vehicle's engine make loud noise when stationary and in motion. never has made this sound before. all recalls that were listed which were the high fuel pump and carbon monoxide have been completed yet no change in vehicle. dealership stated that it mayexhaust and catalyst converter are the issues. after doing some research online, i've discovered that other owners of this vehicle along with owners of the equinox have the same issue.
Vehicle is exhibiting excess oil consumption. i have had the vehicle since february of 2018 and have had the oil changed twice- both times the dipstick barely had an oil on it. i experienced engine knocking at one point (between oil changes) and checked the oil to realize it was almost dry.
Just like so many others that have complained, the engine seized with just 85,000 miles on it. it was always well maintained and out of the blue, while driving on the highway at about 45mph (in light traffic), the check engine light came on and it died. i've had two mechanics look at it and both say it needs a new engine. they both also say that this is one of the worst engines that has ever been manufactured. i now have to decide if i want to pay $6000 for a new (used) motor, or if i want to walk away and eat the balance of my loan. thanks gmc!
Had one catalytic converter replaced a few weeks ago now need the 2nd one replaced. gm has a special coverage notice for 2010-2011 catalytic converters on the 2.4 liter engine but not the 3.0. my 3.0 has the same issue and gm should include covering this under special coverage.....i phoned to voice the issue and they gave me a case number should there be inclusion for the 3.0 in the future. had a few cars over the years and never had to replace one catalytic converter, two on a car that does not have alot of mileage and not included in the special coverage for the 2.4 engine does not seem right.
We purchased the 2010 gmc terrain on march 30th and since we have had to change the oil 3 times and once refill the oil. we have to check it daily to make sure it has oil and is safe for our daughter to drive it. there are so many people that have complained about this exact problem we have found out since we purchased the car. i would have never purchased and dont want to sell it to someone else with the same problem. i feel the company should stand behind the issue. there is no leaks we have no oil in our driveway and the car does not smoke. the oil just burns away i guess. i feel the dealership we purchased from should have fixed this before they sold it.
Vehicle intermittently (drives fine for a week, day, month with no problem) dies on me while driving, or wont accelerate above 35mph. system says overheat condition but the temperature gauge does not say it's overheating. dealership runs diagnostics and says nothing wrong but it keeps happening unexpectedly. causes problems on highway and is dangerous. 3 mechanics said bad ecm, but chevy dealership will not replace or reflash ecm. i've spent thousands of dollars flushing radiator, replacing thermostat, replacing camshaft sensors, mass airflow sensor, running diagnostics, renting vehicles, and nothing helps. i see where there are recalls of gmc terrain ecm's but not mine? this is getting ridiculous. i need help. i owe more than the car is worth and i'm paying so much to diagnose something that should be taken care of by gm.
Vehicle has consistently run low/out of oil, and oil would need to be added weekly to maintain levels. after asking/checking for recalls, nothing was found. two weeks ago the vehicle kept stalling when driving. mechanic found that timing chain had stretched causing engine damage. this is the same as reported in nhtsa #10053269.
General motors knowingly and willfully manufactured an engine with an oil consumption issue causing damage to the engine. this is a well known issue, and gm is requiring me to pay for the replacement. i cannot stress enough that sundance chevrolet (lansing, mi) had a fiduciary responsibility to notify me of the oil consumption problem when i brought it in to them. they were negligent in their duty to me as their customer. gm has also been derelict in their duty to accept responsibility for the faulty engine they manufactured and their dealer sold to me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. while driving 45 mph, the "engine power reduced" warning indicator displayed and the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the failure occurred on more than one occasion. hertrich buick gmc in seaford, delaware was made aware of the failure and requested that the vehicle be brought in for service. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 170,011.
My vehicle, 2010 gmc terrain, at times would sputter and act like it wants to die at idle, so i took it into the dealership and they found that the high pressure fuel pump was leaking into the crankcase contaminating the oil with fuel. there is currently a recall for this issue, #43180: product emission recall ' high pressure fuel pump, reference # n16204318, release date: september 2016. i was told that my vehicle was not part of this recall because it did not include my vin. i believe that the recall needs to be expanded to cover more vehicles because there are more vehicles that are affected by this issue.
Internal issue with transmission as diagnosed by gmc dealer. car will not go into reverse or gear up passed 40 km/h. failure happened suddenly and with no warning signs while driving and exciting highway. car was purchased new and was well maintained. 8-9 years old car, with 110,000 km. four cylinder, 2.4l engine, front wheel drive.
75k miles on vehicle which was maintained regularly and engine seized due to oil consumption. no sort of low oil, replace oil or any type of indicator light illuminated to warn me of any sort of issue. vehicle was in motion, engine light came on then car died. informed by gmc that there was likely nothing they can do because the car will not start to evaluate the issue and i did not do my maintenance at the dealership
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed oil on the ground underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to joe cooper chevrolet cadillac (4920 n automall dr, shawnee, ok 74804) where it was diagnosed that the pcv valve failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and case number: 8-3863678608 was filed. the failure mileage was 149,000.
Engine - slows down and speed up and jolt as it accelerate in speed. heated seats - a month after purchase they stopped worked oil pump - the filter gets clogged with metal shaving and would not allow the oil to get to the engine. as a result, i had to get oil changes 3 times in a month. dash board and stereo light would flicker and dim. stereo would repeat words and get stuck in one place. the wind shield wipers stopped working during a rain storm and were wiping in two separate directions at the same time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. while the vehicle was stationary or while driving various speeds, the engine indicator illuminated. an independent mechanic replaced the catalytic converter twice in the vehicle, but the failure recurred. it was later determined that there was a cracked intake manifold and moisture in the manifold. a dealer was not contacted about the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
I was getting gas, fiiled up, when i got back into car, didn't want to start, really had to hit gas pedal, very scary, that happened 3 times after getting gas, another time i was at stop light, and it just stalled, engine completely stopped, hard start up again, so i decided for safety reasons taking it to dealership, it's still there as of 11/20/2017, but wanted to get this out there, i think maybe this is ongoing issue with certain models of gmc, and feel maybe it will be a recall issue if enough people report issues as such as these. i thank god i wasn't driving and this happened, def a safety concern gmc needs to address.
Car lost power in the middle of traffic moving at 60 mph on a busy highway. had to be towed to a dealer, where they said the timing chain had broken and the engine was destroyed as a result. then we find out that broken timing chains and broken balance chains are common problems on 2010/2011 terrains.yet gm has never been forced to acknowledge the problem or issue a recall for this serious safety issue. (timing chain breakage in any engine should be rare, not a common occurrence!)
No warning indicators (as in none ) of any kind for low oil or low oil pressure as a result when oil is low or empty it will cause the timing chain / belt to break. gmc has a warning about worn rings that results in excessive consumption of oil. within about 2500 miles of my oil change it was out of oil and resulted in the timing chain / belt breaking. it happened as i was on the entrance ramp to the interstate system.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. on several occasions, the check engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently. additionally, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the camshaft position sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Takata recall- the radio screen goes completely black when it comes back on its un- readable. also whenever you turn the ac on it makes a clicking sound. both happen while driving( in motion, stationary, city streets as well as highway... also, the back windows click when rolling them up or down.
The catalytic converters have been replaced under warranty. engine indicator light came on and was checked by gm dealer p0017, cranshaft camshaft 9-16-16. the dealer says they fixed it. also using too much oil. dealer started oil consumption test in april 2017. check engine light is still on. as of 5-17-17 i now have to have the timing chain replaced at 103075 miles. gm has issued service/technical bulletins but does help anyone over 100,000 miles. numerous complaints please issue a recall. i don't want to replace the complete engine. oil changes have been at gm dealers and i have all the documentation.
My husband change the oil 2 days ago and said that there was a leak of oil.. i had changed my oil back on 2-28-2017. my husband said there was oil on the stick. so i want to say that it was short 2 or 3 quarts of oil. me not knowing that it had been leaking. its making a sound like its knotting, like if the belt was loose, a check engine light came on after having the oil changed.. we have already changed sparknplugs and tyhey were bad.
I have a vehicle that has excessive oil consumption. it uses a quart every 900 miles. the dealerships say it is not covered because my vehicle vin is not included in the special coverage of 10 years, 120000 mi. however, my vehicle engine was completely replaced by a dealership for the same issue. this new engine is not the original engine. i asked the dealership if they can trace the engine serial number back and see if it was built in the same timeframe as the suspect engine. however they will not do that. dealership is changing the timing chain for special coverage though. i will probably have the dealership fix the oil consumption problem out of my own pocket since the they have to take the engine apart for the timing chain issue. it's cheaper than doing it by itself or changing the engine.
Stalling when turning, coming up to stop lights and going down hills, engine making loud noises and excessive oil changes. engine is now unoperable
Car is losing oil, no drip on ground, must be burning in motor, having to add oil every few month. this is being going own for about 3yrs. when we get oil changed, have to add oil within 3 or 4 months. have stopped driving car. need to sale it need to get car fixed. losing oil when driving. not while parked.
While coming to a stop on a highway exit ramp, the timing chain of my 2010 gmc terrain with 70,707 miles became disengaged resulting in a catastrophic engine failure. the consumer stated the vehicle failed without warning. the manufacturer offered the consumer $2,000 towards a new vehicle. the consumer declined the offer. *js
Takata recall so far at 140,000 miles on my 2010 terrain i have had to put a new engine in, all 3 catalytic converters and now a power steering pump and rack. i could have bought a brand new car by now. no recalls on any of these??? there should be. the engine just stopped on the highway and once replaced then the steering became tight and barely made it to the shop
Initially radio stayed on after leaving car once. later the car would not start even though battery was fairly new. mechanic diagnosed 2 codes (p062b control micro processor and p0690 relay circuit) related to ecm. mechanic reset the ecm and tried running car but codes came back again. new ecm had to be ordered and installed.
Getting gas in oil runs when you shut it off ruff idle
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. while driving various speeds, the check engine and control assist warning indicators illuminated. the speed decelerated below 10 mph independently in addition the engine made an abnormal sound. the contact managed to drive the vehicle home slowly. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,332. upated 03/07/17*lj *cn
Vehicle makes noise on cold starts, rattle and engine noise. found oil leaking on driveway after dealership oil change. indication was poor fit of filter. second such vehicle to have this issue. other 2009 saturn outlook (vehicle rollover injuries sustained and complained nhtsa) . the cold crank engine noise was present prior to oil change on 4cyl,and steering also makes noise on cold start. vehicle is stationary and has been purchased second hand from dealership 1 year ago
Takata re call while driving on secondary street my vehicle lost momentum. fromm 45 mph to 30 then shut down. the recieved message engine power reduced. it vibrated and shut down. i looked up the code. sat for a moment and restarted. it went without incident for a couple of days. had it checked out says it's the throttle body was needed. is there a recall?
I i changed it. it stalled repeatedly and we had it repaired recently. we also had the oil checked and replaced so gm could track the oil consumption. unfortunately a month later the car would not start sitting in the driveway, so we had it towed in to a gm dealer. they said the timing chain is busted and they need to pull the engine because there is metal in the oil pan so our oil test is worthless. the mechanic said not changing the oil or low oil levels may have caused the timing chain problem. the estimated cost to fix the current problem is at least $2,300. i'm going to contact a lawyer and see what can be done because this car should have been recalled.
I bought the vehicle with around 86,000 mi - one owner, from dealership. the engine was making a noise within a couple of months. i have to change the oil every month because of the unusual oil burning issue. it died on me three times. the engine would slow down to a stop. i had to turn it off and back on. later, after a cold day, i had an oil leak. i took it in and the mechanic said there is a problem with the pcv system and the car has had recalls in the past. i took it to the dealership but they said it was not covered. the diagnosis was rear main seal needs replaced. i found a special coverage bulletin from gm online where it said that certain locations/vins are covered because of the crankshaft rear oil seal needs replacement. mine was diagnosed with this but when i called gm it said my vin was not on the list. i have had issues with the vehicle since i bought it. lots of engine noise, very high oil consumption/burn, and difficult to maintain. i would not recommend this vehicle, and i would encourage owners to file for a civil action if they own this type vehicle because all the reviews lead to the same issue. gm should honor their values by either replacing the parts or recalling these vehicles. i will never purchase a gm vehicle again. the design is great but the engine and system are of very poor quality. *tr
Had to replace engine which cost over $4300 and i think it was due to some recall parts (timing chain and cadillac converter) i should not have had to pay for a new engine because this company had some faulty parts. i would like to be reimbursed for this.
I am adding on additional information to my previous complaint #10938600. gmc sca #14159, 14232, 15810, 12313, and my transmission failure all seem to fall victim to excessive heat. i was pulling into traffic when the transmission failed. my terrain has fallen victim to three possibly four of the five calamities. there is no reason to believe all five will not fail under the same driving conditions. somehow not once did warning lights come on for multiple engine oil occurrences, nor for my transmission failure. i was an hvac chiller technician for 28 years. when i hear ecm referenced, as in sca#12312, i have to ask which values were changed and why. thermistors and pressure switches designed to protect vital engine compartment components run through the ecm yet no warning. my transmission failed on december 4, 2016, the catalytic converter may be bad, the steering gear is suspect, and the engine warning lights have not done what they are supposed to do. the unnecessarily long delay in addressing the oil consumption issue outlined in sca#14159 probably compromised my engine in other ways. sca#12313 resulted from gm delaying the repair of sca#14159 for so long. what, why, and how. we know what is failing. simply replacing the part in kind or similar is not addressing why. how do we keep it from happening again is definitely not being addressed. safety as well as quality issues are at hand here. gm has ignored my requests for all information regarding sca#14159, 14232, 15810, 12313, and 12312, as well as the transmission. why they are failing is excessive heat. that is just my guess. they know what it is. i can not afford a costly transmission bill that only finds me back in an unreliable vehicle with some serious safety issues. *tr
Requesting a recall on the 2010 gmc terrain. mileage that was on the sticker was incorrect. far from the truth. major oil consumption, never seen anything like it. tapping noise was reported @ 3,000 was told it was normal. knew it was not. had to replace camshaft, electrical problem, head lights constantly going, never lasting anytime. will now have to replace transmission and probably engine. gmc stated they have no record of any problems with the terrain they stated if there were any problems there would have been recalls and that the nhtsa would have done this. will this be done? not sure how gmc is getting away with this. so many complaints on line. are there any class action suits for the terrain? can we start one? there are plenty of people with the exact same problem. not even similar it's exact.
Catalytic converter will have to be repaired. failed emmisions testing. by the time i fix this along with the other major parts i know it's 6 years later but this should not be happening. please strongly consider a recall on this! there are unusual and major issues with the 2010 gmc terrain please check the internet or pull files of all issue where gmc states nothing was detected. this is an easy way for gmc to get out of recalls. maybe we need to go to the news and papers.
Well first problem was in sept 2014 mileage on car was 54170 the car had to be towed from my job to dealer came out after working and entire electric system was down could not start or open locks on car with key system at that time they told me the timing chain broke to which they fixed and on receipt they claim they replaced chain gasket and sealant also they claimed they performed a carbon cleaning and did a 27 point inspection now at mileage of 73740 they claim the motor is bad and said it would not last and wanted to charge me 7500.00 for a new motor when i told them the check engine light came on and would not go out i was told because i went to another place for oil change that was a firestone place the mechanic claimed the actuators were clogged and claimed the motor was not repairable at that i decided to trade the car in and i did lease another car at the same dealer i know its not their fault the engine did not hold up like it was thought to when i purchased it. while i was waiting for reasons why the light was on spoke to another person and she claimed she had 2 persons who had similar issues so that is why im looking to see if there is a suit in progress
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating. the contact observed that the antifreeze coolant seal failed and caused the vehicle to overheat without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the piston rings fractured and needed to be replaced. also, the windshield wipers failed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v489000 (visibility). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
While driving at about 5 miles an hour, turning vehicle around a cul-de-sac the vehicle completely turns off. i have contacted the gmc dealership about this and the only recall i was told was the fuel pump. i was told they would order my parts and they would call me; i never received a call. i have towed the vehicle to two repair shops and i have been told by both that it is a timing chain issue and i need to install a new engine! i called the gmc dealership and asked if the recall could be a direct result of my timing chain issue, and if i had any other recalls? i was told i would have to pay for them to look at my vehicle if not apart of the recall. i do not have the extra money to pay multiple times for my car to be looked at or to put an engine in a vehicle that has less than 85k miles. i purchased this vehicle in late december of 2015 and have not be able to drive the vehicle since about september of 2016. i have gotten at least two oil changes in that time frame (dec-sept) from the same gmc dealership and was never told about any recalls or any issues with my vehicle besides needing tires/brakes. one of the mechanics that i took the vehicle to said i have other recalls. i was not able to locate any others online and that is my reason for writing this. i am very unsatisfied and do not know how to proceed.
Catalytic converter going out on a car 6 years old. i know some gmc have had recalls on their catalytic converter, why not the terrain. i have had so many things fixed on this car. the car started running really rough and hard. the first things caused the car to shut down in power. that was covered under warranty and was fix. then the air bag light kept coming on, and i had repaired. then a recall was on that, and i was reimburse my money. then i had the evap vent solenoid asm and cleared. still more problems so took it back to the dealership. more money spent as now they said "tested evap system and found gas cap leaking." repaired that then more money was needed as they said after the light came on again evap purge solenoid leaking pressure.then the compressor went out. i live in texas so air was needed. well now the services engine like is on again, and the car idle real hard and jerks like it wants to die. after checking the engine light i was told now it's my catalytic converter, and its going to cost me $1200. after researching i have found other are having the same problem with the 2010 gmc terrain. these cars and year model appear to be junk. will there be a recall on this problem? could you are investigate this?
I bought this car 12/2014 in 01/15 i took it in for a noise coming from the engine. it turned out to be the timing chain. it was replaced. in 12/2015 i had engine problems the engine was replaced with help of the warranty i was out of pocket $850.00. now 08/16 it ran hot while on the free. i got off a the next exit and took it to firestone they couldn't tell what was wrong. i had it towed to a mechanic and he replaced the thermostat that didn't work. had it towed back to the dealership who said something about a battery. that didn't even apply. they sent it back to the people they bought the engine from in 12/2015. they said the timing chain was broke again. they fixed it but it's still running hot. they warranty was voided b/c i drove it off the freeway and the temp reached higher than 280 degrees. they are going to replace the gaskets for $1000.00 that i have to pa out of pocket and it still might have problems and need another engine. all in less than a year. i refuse to believe this. i believe the dealership either didn't install the engine correctly or the engine was already no god
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 gmc terrain. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle vibrated with a loud abnormal noise with the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to (frank's gmc located at 325 orient way, lyndhurst, nj 07071) to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that failure was due to oil consumption caused by piston ring wear. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Engine burning oil rapidly making loud noise had to get a new engine from gmc and had it installed at the dealership. power steering locked twice took it to dealership they stated that the battery cable was not connecting properly and made the adjustment. was working fine for 1 month and now the power steering locked again and i almost hit a wall and pedestrian while entering a parking garage, i am taking it back to the dealership
