I have a 2000 gmc sierra 1500 sle pickup truck. at 8 years old - one of my brake lines failed while driving on the highway. this was due to extensive corrosion on the under carriage of the car. i had to have every last brake line replaced for $1,600 due to the corrosion. i have never seen corrosion on such an important component before. as an aside, much of the rest of the truck is incredibly corroded on the underside, and i just had a fuel line fail for the same reason. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact felt a mushy feeling when he depressed the brake pedal. he depressed the pedal again and it immediately extended to the floor. the contact pulled off the road, placed the vehicle into neutral, and applied the emergency brake. nhtsa campaign id number 00v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) was referenced. the failure mileage was 122,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. while driving at approximately 30 mph, the contact noticed that the brake pedal went to the floorboard when it was depressed. the contact was forced to allow the vehicle to coast through a stop sign when the brakes failed. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the brake line was replaced. the contact had not called the manufacturer when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 63,000. the current mileage was approximately 67,000.
2000 gmc 1500 sierra 47,357 miles had a recall about a year ago. they cleaned and etched front brake lines at the calipers. today towing a trailer with a car in the i-95 corridor between d.c. and baltimore i had to attempt a quick stop for slow traffic when suddenly i lost all breaking pressure and fortunately ended at the inner grass space barely saving a horrible crush with several cars lined in front of me. my front reservoir was very low, underneath the car at the driver's door level all 4 break lines were badly swollen and corroded, one at least was obviously dripping, and even the frame was corroded and metal chunks were easily knocked. other sections look very rusty worse than a 65 ford galaxie am restoring .and this at almost 48,000 miles . *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. while driving between 3-5 mph, the vehicle required increased stopping distance. the contact was afraid that he might strike a pedestrian because the vehicle does not stop when the brake pedal is depressed. the failure has been occurring for two months and the abs was disconnected. the recall repair for nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock) was previously performed on the vehicle. the dealer stated that the rotors needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,300. the current mileage was 82,000 and failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 gmc sierra 1500. the contact received a recall notice for the service brakes wheel speed sensor. on september 19, 2007, the dealer repaired the recall; however, the abs and brake warning lights have been illuminated since the recall repair was performed. while driving between 15 and 50 mph, the vehicle made a loud noise. the dealer stated that the wheel speed sensor and wheel bearings were one unit. the dealer also stated that they cleaned one side and the other side did not need to be cleaned. the service manager confirmed that they used force to remove parts from the vehicle and stated that the vehicle was able to withstand much more damage than what occurred. during the recall repair, the dealer damaged the front ball joint and dented the rotors. the driver side ball joints were replaced; however, the failure is worse than it was prior to having the recall repair performed. the dealer was unable to provide the contact with an invoice. when the abs light is illuminated, the brakes fail to operate normally. the contact has to shut off the engine to allow the abs to reset itself. a second diagnosis by a different dealer revealed that the driver and front passenger side wheel bearings were damaged, including the passenger side that was repaired for the recall. the second dealer further stated that the noise was due to the wheel bearings failing to move freely. the manufacturer was informed by the dealer that there was no noise present. the manufacturer provided the contact with claim number 71558918083. the approximate failure mileage was 106,500 and current mileage was 108,500. updated 03/05/08. *lj the consumer stated informed dealer many times for the ticking heard in the vehicle since the vehicle at the time purchase. updated 03/04/08 *tr
Complete brake failure due to excessive corrosion. i got lucky that i had room to roll out. upon inspection i noticed that many components show signs of excessive rust. *kb
Failure of the wheel speed sensor due to corrosion causing unwanted anti-lock brake system activation. nhtsa recall # 05v379000 describes this very condition, but i was told my truck did not qualify for this recall after a dealer search of my vin number. my truck however falls within the year, model and locations described in the recall. *jb

When i apply brakes on dry pavements the anti lock braking prevents me from stopping. the brake pedal is forced up when i apply pressure causing me to push real hard for the vehicle to stop. this occurs very often when there is bumps in the road that my tires are rolling over as i apply my brakes causing for increased stopping distance. *nm

We have symptoms of the gmc truck recall inl 05v379000 . we have safety concerns because our truck fails to stop properly and we concerned this will ultimately cause an accident. we took our vehicle in for diagnostics at brookfield pontiac-gmc truck dealer. diagnostics has determined that we indeed have the failures defined in recall 05v379000 . we are informed wisconsin has been left out of this recall. our neighboring states such as illinois and michigan however are included. we feel gmc has left our safety at chance and feel this is a legitimate complaint that gmc needs to include any consumer that has this saftey issue defined in 05v379000 . we are filing this complaint as a record for when, and if this safety issue, causes an accident and bodily harm or worse. as we can testify wisconsin residents are seeing this safety issue defined in the recall 05v379000 and our safety should be addressed by the gmc corporation as it has been by other states surrounding us. *nm
1-i noticed brake failure at slow stopping speeds and the abs warning light stayed on. 2- this caused a few close calls as far as almost hitting structures or vehicles directly in front of me. 3-took to the dealer and was told it was the wheel speed sensor located in the wheel hub and replaced at a cost of $500.00 plus . also found out that this is a recall for east coast only recall # nhtsa id # 05v379000. because this is a defective part on east coast i feel it should apply to my vehicle as well even though i'm on the west coast. *nm
Dt: the brake line on the rear wheel on the driver's side broke three times. on the june 17, 2005 it broke again at the same location . it was breaking in the flare inside the fitting. when the consumer applied the brakes it sprayed brake fluid all over the place. *ak *jb
2000 gmc pickup brake line on the driver's side rear wheel broke.*mr this resulted in total loss of brakes in about 3 miles. a recall was performed on on the brakes prior to this incident. the line showed sign of wear from rubbing on other brake lines . a year later the line broke again in the same location. it too had showed signs of wear. *nm

Rusting of rear brake rotors causing premature wear and replacement of brakes and rotors. the dealer and gm replaced the rotors under warranty while it cost me $269 to have the brakes replaced. my concern quality of metal on rotors not condusive with normal every day use. are their specification to thickness and quality of metal for all manufactures? life expectancy?*ak
when hitting a bump in road will lose brake control, and it will be hard to stop. dealer notified.*ak
Dt: contact states: when he has a load on this truck the brakes feel like they are failing. when he applies the brakes, they go to the floor. dealer replaced the master cylinder, but it didn't fix the problem. sometimes when sitting still and just idling caller can press on the brakes and they will go to the floor. general motors says this is a normal occurrence.*ak *jb
Braking coming to a red light. catastrophic brake failure occurred due to brake line corrosion. upon investigation, all five brake lines leading from the pump under the drivers seat, next to the frame are severely corroded. everything else is in very good condition. there is almost no corrosion at, except the severely corroded brake lines. all brake lines need to be replaced. this is clearly an issue of inferior brake lines used. *tr
Brake pedal fell off vehicle when consumer tried to step on it. vehicle could not be driven or towed. *ak
