Fax from (fl) re defective brakes on his 1999 gmc sierra 1500 pickup truck, es has no record of previous ltr. *ts the steel brake line tube to the front brakes ruptured. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while approaching a stop sign at 15 mph, the vehicle's brakes failed. the dealership would not accept the vehicle because the service department could not offer an immediate appointment. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who determined the plastic protection of the brake fluid line was not completely covering the line resulting in a rusted line due to condensation. brake fluid leaked from the line causing the brake failure. *ak the brake line had severe rust. updated 10/02/06. *jb

On my 2001 gmc sierra truck the warning lights came on for the abs and the parking brake i took it to the mechanic and was told the ebcm (electronic brake control modul) needs replaced. i spoke with the mechanic and he pointed out that there is a lot of these being replaced on this year of vehicle. *jb

(1)total brake failure due to corrosion in brake line. brake went to floor, no brakes, fluid running out on to ground. (2)narrowly missed hitting truck at intersection (3) dealer replacing all lines at cost of $1000.00. *jb

Brake failure due to malfunction of anti-lock brake system. caused vehicle to coast through a red light at a busy intersection. brake pedal went to the floor with no stopping capability. anti-lock brake light on dash came on and stayed on. this has occurred on three seperate ocassions over the last three years.

Ref. investigation # pe05-020. antilock brake system. incurring unwanted abs activation with increased stopping distance at slow speeds. no abs warning light illumination.

The abs brake light was illuminated at all times. the consumer heard a humming sound coming from under the vehicle. the abs module was disconnected because the module continued to run although vehicle was turned off. if the module was left connected it could drain the battery and possibly damage other systems. the dealer and manufacturer were informed of the problem.*ak the abs module has not been repaired due to the cost of the repair. *nlm

The computer that controlled the abs failed and as a result the system did not function properly. *ak *ts *nlm

Consumer states when she shut the engine off, the abs system was still running.*jb

My abs system has failed the motor runs consistently by the pump under the drivers side door, i pulled the wire connection harness to silence it and now i have a constant yellow abs and red brake light on the dash panel. the dealership did the front sensor recall but still have the existing problem. this happened 3 years after i bought it but my warranty was up after 1 1/2 years because of my distance from my employer ate up the warranty. *jb

Abs motor started running loadly continuously. abs light on. had to have motor disconnected, so don't have abs now. our mechanic said he has seen several 1999-2000 gmc/chevrolet trucks with this problem. we contacted general motors; they said there is no recall, truck out of warranty, it's our problem. we are told it will cost approx. $1300 for repair. we believe it is a manufacturer/safety defect.*ak

1999 gmc k1500 truck. consumer states problems with the brakes *tgw the consumer stated he has spent over $2,157.81 in brake repairs. the brake lines, right rear caliper and rear disc brake rotor had to be replaced. *jb

While driving abs system switched to manual, at 55mph module that controls abs system had failed.*ak *slc

On jan. 14, 2000. my abs and brake warning lights came on. both the electronic brake control module and master cylinder were defective. they were replaced by dealer. now brakes go to floor. pull to rt, and are mushy. i think the replacement parts are defective, but the dealer says they won't do anymore. these brakes are still defective and make the vehicle a hazard to drive. *ak

While driving consumer stated hit brakes, and at the same time hit a bump in road, and abs activated. vehicle was hard to stop. contacted dealer. *ak

When applying the brakes while coming to an intersection, if one of the rear tires hit a tar strip, chuck hole or bump in the pavement, the truck goes into abs braking, reducing stopping distance, which could caused a crash. the problem has been reported to the dealership. dealer stated that the system was working normally. *ak

Brake line blew out corroded. had to replace 5 brake lines and 2 front caliper do to corrosion. my bill at gm dealer $957.35 for repairs. *tr
