We have classified the 122 complaints from 2008 GMC Acadia about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Service air bags light came on. occasionally service traction control light comes on and traction control turns off and back on while driving when traction control returns warning light disappears. service air bag light came on while driving and has not came off. all of the above happened on a highway going no faster than 55mph dry conditions. vehicle has not been in an accident while owned by current owner.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. when the contact opened any of the vehicle doors, the interior lighting flickered on and off. also, while driving various speeds, the stabilitrak and service brake system warning indicators illuminated intermittently. the contact also mentioned that an obd code reader discovered that the passenger air bags were defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the contact associated nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v118000 (air bags) and 10v240000 (electrical system) with the failures. the failure mileage was 156,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. when the vehicle was started, the seat belt and service air bag indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to schumacher buick gmc of north palm beach (561-282-1957, located at 3720 northlake blvd ste c, lake park, fl 33403) where it was diagnosed that the sensor in the seat needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
My lift gate door fell and hit me in the head out of no where and my car is not on the list for the recall for that exact problem. my airbag indicator goes off all the time even if no one is in the front seat. my speedometer barely works, it goes completely around and i can't get it to reset. i took it to the shop just to be told it's a sensor that causes it along with the slow cranking but they didn't know which one it was because my car has 4.
I purchased this vehicle used about 4 months ago. on 8-15-19, i activated the on star and was told about a recall for the air bag and the seat belt tensioner. i contacted a local dealership and was told that the recall had been closed. can they actually refuse to "fix" this?
The air bag light is on now and in the dash is saying check your airbag service no issues before
The vehicle's airbag readiness light will illuminate and/or a 'service air bag' message will appear in vehicle's driver information center, the airbag toggles off and on when i have a front seat passenger. i found the following on your website: 15536 - special coverage. certain 2008 – 2013 buick enclave, 2008-2013 gmc acadia, 2008-2010 saturn outlook, and 2009-2013 chevrolet traverse vehicles were recalled to address corrosion and/or loose crimps in the driver and passenger-seat mounted side-impact airbag (siab) wiring-harness connectors, which could cause an increase in resistance that may disable the siab, front-center airbag, if equipped, and seat-belt pretensioners. gm has received reports that, in some cases, the required repair may have been incorrectly performed by the dealer service technician. the gm recall number was n14030 (gfpe number n-140030) nhtsa recall 14v118. dealers are to remove the section of the wire with the faulty repair and re-connect wires
Air bag off light always on with service air bag
Sometimes the airbag light doesn't say it's on when i have passengers in the vehicle, it will still say they are off while i am driving anywhere.
The air bag sensor/module in the passenger seat would work intermittently with the passenger in the seat for about 3 weeks, but is non-functional now (does not detect the presence of an occupant in the passenger seat) resulting in the passenger air bag being disabled at all times. i have gotten estimates from 3 different places ranging from $800-$1200.00 to correct. this issue has now made our vehicle completely unsafe for my family to drive and ride in!!!!
Takata recall- i purchased a 2008 gmc awd acadia about a year ago. while test driving the vehicle i noticed a whiny sound that i informed the dealer about upon return. the dealer checked it out and told me it just need power steering fluid. so he filled the fluids and i heard nothing for a month or so. i took the truck back for misc. repairs two other times after that regarding sounds that i was heard coming from the vehicle. after that things seemed fine for a few months or so. early september, the truck slowed down on the highway. the dash was reading 60mph but i was really going 30mph. then while exiting to turn off the highway the power steering began acting up and was extremely hard to turn. i almost ran into the wall not prepared to use such force. august 29th i went to jiffy lube and had the fluids topped off and power steering fluid was full. i put the truck in the shop for a full diagnostic after the battery went completely dead and the vehicle would not start in october. they informed me that the power steering rack needing replacing and the faulty sun roof had flooded the entire vehicle with 1 1/2 inches of water. the battery died because the port was filled with water. from the beginning of september, when the power steering went out, the vehicle has only been driven very short distances (to the gas station on the corner, less than a mile). i called a gm dealer to check for recalls and there are none which is sad and a total rip off.
The air bag sensor in the passenger seat would work intermittently with the passenger in the seat for about 3 weeks, but is non-functional now (does not detect the presence of an occupant in the passenger seat) resulting in the passenger air bag being disabled at all times
Since i bought the truck the i get an on and off message to service the air bag. also while i am driving the truck over heats and when i come tona stop and turn the engine off and completely remive the key. the engine stays on and water pump starts to buble as if the water was boiling and after about five minutes there is no water in the pump and when you add water the water get extremely hot. i have seen in other forums where all have had the same issue. i am extremely disappointed in the quality of the vehicle. i have four small children and don't feel safe however the truck is financed and i have no option.
Since i purchased the vehicle the service air bag light has been on, now the transmission hot idle engine light is popping on and also service the traction control light and service stabilitrak ligt is coming on. me my family had taken a vacation to florida and the transmission began to startle all the way back to tennessee leaving us in a devastated situation . i was hoping there was a recall on the transmission and and air bags this is very dangerous as many others has complained about the same issues in the past concerning their 2008 acadia vehicles this vehicle was in motion on a city expressway with a high volume of fast moving traffic. i went to auto zone and o' reilly auto parts to have check engine test and the following codes appeared dtc p2762 torque converter clutch,p0700 automatic transmission control,p0171 fuel control system. and computer error. i don't know if this vehicle ever me recall but i feel me my family could have been severely injured as the fast moving vehicle was coming behind us as our vehicle lost power and connection.
My 2008 gmc acadia began displaying service air bag and turning off the passenger airbag intermittently when a passenger was in the front passenger seat due to the wiring harness under the passenger seat. after a few months it now stays on all the time. gmc said it's not under a recall but i have read several complaints about it with the same year make and model stating it's a recall this happens when in motion and while stoped
Driving and the passenger side airbag went off with no warning and almost caused me to run into a street pole.
My car has been riding crazy. it kerks whem driving and this is only done with service stabiltrak and traction controll sensors come on in the middle of driving. took to a mechanic who replace part connected to brake that suppose to fix this issue. wnd issie is the airbag sysyem keeps flashing off and on. i checked nhshf website for reacalls and it says a recall. but when i contacted cheve they said no recall. there have been many complaints on these on this car. something needs to be done
Current symptom: service airbag message comes on periodically when driving. the light goes off when i tighten the driver's side airbag wire harnesses. the new fix per recall bulletin no. 14030b: dealers will remove the driver and passenger side air bag wiring harness connectors and splice and solder the wires together. the old fix before the formal recall: dealers removed the passenger side air bag wiring harness connectors and spliced and soldered the wires together. prior to the 2014 recall, gm thought that only the passenger wire harness was faulty. in 2011 i participated in gm's voluntary fix (just the pass side) before the formal recall ' now gm states that my vehicle doesn't qualify for the correct recall fix of both wire harnesses. they strongly recommend i pay $350 to have the wire harness repaired the way the recall outlines.
Takata recall my airbag warning light remains on just as all of the other gbmc 2008 models that were recalled but according to my vin my car is not included in the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. while driving approximately 55 mph, the passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the failure occurred for approximately six months. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (cable dahmer chevrolet in independence, missouri) where it was diagnosed that the seat sensor on the passenger side needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (preferred chevrolet buick gmc, 1701 s beacon blvd, grand haven, mi 49417) where it was diagnosed that the seat indicator module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 172,000. the vin was not available.
Service air bag message has gone off and on for a couple of months. now message is on continuously.
We have a 2008 gmc acadia that now has approximately 164,000 miles. it was recently found out that a water leak has caused the airbag system to be come completely disabled. water leaks in these model vehicles are a known issue and gm has put out technical service bulletins about these leaks and how to fix them. because our vehicle is over the mileage limit the local dealership is saying gm will not warranty the leak repair or the damage to the airbag system from the leak. we are now faced with a bill of $1600 to repair the airbag system and unknown amount to repair the water leak and any other damage caused by it to the vehicle. what i do not understand is why a leaking sunroof with admitted factory defect issues from the manufacture has a mileage limit for warranty repairs. i can understand a time limit. this issue has now made our vehicle completely unsafe for my family to drive and ride in.
While driving on the highway, both side air curtains deployed without provocation. it was frightening. i notified gmc. they inspected the vehicle that has no evidence of rollover whatsoever. they have told me that they will not concede any malfunction. because of this, the repair is not totally my responsibility because my insurance will not cover it because there was no accident.
Service airbag light always on. reported issue to gmc they stated that yes the 2008 gmc acadia has a safety recall for certain vin number and that although my acadia has all the same equipment and airbags as the recalled acadia's but because my vin number is not on the list they are not responsible for the cost and that for them to repair the issue which is specified by the technical service bulletin specified for the airbag recall would be at my cost. if the recall doesn't affect my vin number why is the repair exactly the same as the recall? the service air bag light is on at all times
When driving my service air bag light would come on as i move around in front passenger seat. now it stays on all the time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. while driving approximately 30 mph, the contact's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle. in addition, the base of the driver's seat detached. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. the contact sustained injuries to the head, which required medical attention. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.
Service air bag light comes on periodically (started in jan 2017). light only came on for about 10-15 seconds then the air bag indicator would light up. took to dealer 2/2/17). dealer indicates that there is a problem with the passenger seat air bag sensor. it goes on and off sporadically. dealer stated that putting electronics on seat can cause this problem. there is nothing in the manual about not putting cell phones/pads/etc on the front seats. upon researching issue on internet, this appears to be a common issue with 2008 acadias. per dealer, this is not covered under any warranties, recalls or service bulletins. seems to me that a faulty air bag sensor should be a safety issue under a recall. issue has progressively gotten worse.
The service airbag for passenger stays on dealer says there's no communication with the airbag and module
I purchased a 2008 acadia in november 2016. the seller stated that they had to order a airbag and replace the old one. alone with the seat belt. i didn't get the car until a month later. when i got the acadia it was making some whining noise, wouldn't crank back up, rattle and clatter, dragging in the transmission like driving in a certain gears, noisy in neutral. airbag, seatbelt and stability traction control light continue to come on. needed a alternator and now the engine gone. i been having problem's with the car since i got it, and it been only 13th months. we were driving twice and the vehicle shut down on us on the in-state. we had to get it pull back home. several times driving on the main highway and street it wouldn't go in great. i don't photos at this time. i would have to wait until tomorrow, to go outside and take pictures. when i got the vehicle the left driving side tire light continue to come on, still having problem's with changing the tires left back and right front. don't know how many miles was on there. i tried to place an x n the seat belt and unknown other space, but it wouldn't let me. *js
The airbag light has been on and off for the last two years or so until recently when it is on consistently. when i have brought it in the past to be looked at at the gmc dealer, the light was not on so was told they couldn't do anything. now, that it is on, they say it is a safety hazard and isn't working properly on the passenger side, but wants to charge me over $900 to fix it. says it is not under a recall, yet other gmc acadias (same year) did have it recalled.
When it rains, water leaks from the air bags. water also leaks from the light fixtures and dvd player in the middle seating. water also comes in somewhere under the dashboard/electrical panel area, onto the passenger side floor. the last time it rained, there was standing water on my passenger side floor. this has happened while driving it in the rain and while it was parked. stablitrak and traction control lights are constantly coming on - even after looked at. - i have pictures of lights on. also constant service engine soon light problems. *tr
I have an airbag warning light on and and a message on the display. took to dealer and the said they already performed the recall that was on the vehicle and wanted to charge me $675 to open up the dash and see what is wrong. the code that comes up is too high resistance in airbag system. i am filing this complaint for two reasons, one is how do i know they actually performed the procedure in the first place and,two can't it be defective again. my concern is safety in nature that my airbag won't open in an accident.
Recently we had a lot of rain and i noticed it once before when it rains constantly water entered the inside of the car. had the car checked everything seemed okay but on 2 october 2016 the rain was coming in the care through the airbags and when i turned the car off the engine kept running. the following morning no rain but the car wouldn't start and the key got stuck in the ignition. i find this to be costly when the battery not even a year old. just need to have this issue resolve because putting my car in a garage on rainy days is not an option for me.
Service airbag comes on and off at times this was repaired at one time but now it's coming back on again
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact noticed one arm was fractured on the liftgate. the contact's daughter sustained injuries to the hand, but did not require medical attention. the dealer diagnosed that the arms needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the cause of the failure was undetermined. in addition, the side air bag warning indicator illuminated contiuously. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v415000 (structure) and 14v118000 (air bags). the failure mileage was unknown.
Check air bag light keeps coming on. took to dealer to have checked for $100. stayed off for a while but now comes on sometimes it goes off. makes me wonder if my airbag will deploy if there is an impact. sometimes it is off when car is first moving then comes on. its random. started a couple of years ago. but it is on and off. my husband has checked it as well as the dealer. there is no recall according to website, but there should be
I started up my vehicle and an alert comes on saying "service air bag" both driver and passenger lights on, the airbags show they are not funtioning.
Intermittent "service airbag" light. started coming on spring 2016. when front seat passenger sits in the seat and vehicle is moving the airbag light will go on and off and the service airbag message appears. now the "service airbag" light is always on. took it to dealer who said its the passenger presence sensor which costs $1300 to repair (after reading all the complaints this appears to be the highest quote). i already paid $110 for the dealer to diagnose the problem. now the car has failed virginia state inspection and i will be forced to sell it or repair it. i need to get this fixed as soon as possible but with all of the complaints i don"t know why there hasn't been a recall. my vin# doesn't fall within the range. the symptoms are the same as other vehicles covered within the scope of the recall. i would hope that it would be replaced under #10085d: customer satisfaction - airbag readliness light/service airbag message - replace connectors - (sep 1, 2011) or #10335b: special coverage adjustment-airbag readiness light/service airbag message-reroute wire harness/replace connectors - (mar 14, 2011) 2007-2009 gmc acadia. how can i get some assistance with this? gmc should fix the sensor at no cost to consumer.
I have noticed before after a rain the windshield would fog really bad so i figured i had a small roof leak, however i didn't know it was a major leak. i open the door and noticed both front floor boards are wet. i vacuum it out and get about 8 gallons of water out. it wouldn't start so after locating the battery in the passenger floor board the battery box was full of water. i vacuum that out. i let it dry for a while and jump it off. it cranked fine and i let it idle for a while. i closed the doors with windows down with it still running and put a fan in the front seat. it was sitting in my garage running, with a box fan in the front seat blowing, i shut the doors with the windows down, and about 30 seconds after i shut the door i am standing beside it and hear a loud explosion. i look over and both side curtain like air bags had deployed. the car shuts off, the flashers come on. after i gain my composure from being scared to death from the noise, i reach in and turn the key off. after that i disconnected the battery because i was then afraid it may blow more air bags or short out and catch fire. i did some research online and notice there are tons of complaints about the roof leaks, there are a few technical bulletins that gm has about it as well, however there was no recall since it isn't a safety issue. well, if the roof leak is getting enough water in the vehicle that it causes the air bags to deploy for no reason, i believe this is a real safety concern. i am just grateful i wasn't driving it and my 2 young kids were not in the vehicle when it happened. i just bought less than 6 months ago from a dealer. i don't know what to do at this point, so far i just called my insurance company. any suggestions on what to do next? the pics are of water in the car prior to the air bags deploying.
I have had service air bag lights come on all the time along with service stabletrack and and i think something with the fuel when i get gas it makes weird sounds and won't start without pumping the gas to get it started.
The airbag on/off lights would both light up at the same time so you didn't know if it was functioning properly. the warning "service airbag" came on. this was while driving any speed, any type road, also while the car was in park. key would not come out of ignition, the engine would turn off but electrical would still be working. also the power saver mode kicked in and we had to have the vehicle jumped.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.
I had a recall for my driver side, side impact air bag wire harness. the dealer in duluth mn (kolar) fixed it but light came on for check engine. brought it back and they are telling me it is the pps sensor for the passenger airbag. there is a recall for this, but not on my acadia. they want $600 plus labor to replace. totaling around $950. had another recall for the power lift gate, stating that the struts could possibly fail prematurely, causing the power lift gate to drop. as i was loading the back of the vehicle, the lift gate suddenly dropped on my head. i brought it to kolar in duluth mn and told them that the struts from the recall were shot and needed replacement. i picked the vehicle up after a day of them telling me that the recall had been successful. a week after i took the car home, the lift gate fell on my wife. i come to find out that kolar never replaced the struts, even after me talking to the mechanic and him assuring me that they would be changed out. it is now sitting at the dealer waiting for back ordered struts to come in to be installed.
I made a previous complaint filed here under nhtsa id number: 10765088. the local garber gmc dealership sealed the sunroof and cleaned the clogged hoses that drain water from the roof. they also replaced the passenger side airbag for a total of $600. they gave a guarantee that there would be no more leaks. on november 18 the car began leaking from the front passenger side airbag area and water poured from the roof onto the glove compartment when i made a full stop. currently awaiting a return call from the service manager of gmc dealer. i have video of the problem. i was driving in the rain from one college campus location to another, in other words many stop and go and side streets at 30 mph or less. the car made squealing noises as well which happened last time too (september of this year).
Rain leak into car, water pouring into frame and trapped in frame of car, roof of car. water leaking out of airbag locations. when we drive, we can hear water moving around in frame, see water leaking out of airbag areas in frame of car. water trapped inside frame of car, rotting inside of car, mold, mildew potential, fire hazard. gmc says they are not responsible for repairs, car no longer under warranty. how can i safely drive a vehicle in which both the airbags and electrical system is compromised??
Water enters the interior of the vehicle as the sunroof drains continue to clog up and water falls on driver and driver side electrical fuses.
Passenger airbag indicator is always on "off" no matter who sits front passenger seat - large heavy man or lightweight adult.
Service airbag appears in message center has been coming on for the past year. when front seat passenger sits in seat and vehicle is moving the airbag light will go/off and the service airbag appears. sensor not working properly, should be recalled. has been occurring more frequently.
Air bag light was on and passenger sensor light for airbaq not working. had the repairs done for $795.00
