We have classified the 122 complaints from 2008 GMC Acadia about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Purchased used acadia 10/6/11 and in december 2011 had to have battery replaced because would not start. two weeks later car would not start again. took to dealership who discovered sunroof drain had been plugged and caused the whole undercarriage to flood and shut all electrical power down. i hear from people that there had been a recall on the sunroof drain for exactly this problem. how can a dealership sell a car that has had a recall not taken care of?? *tr
My vehicle has an issue with the daytime driving lights and headlights. the lights have failed multiple times due to the bulb melting into, and fusing to, the headlight assembly. this created a condition where the entire headlight assembly needs to be replaced. this includes the lens piece, the bulb, and the wiring connector. this is an issue at night (no/misaligned headlights), the loss of the benefit of daytime driving lights, and i imagine a possible fire. *tr
The vehicle was leased new in 2008 and had water leaking around sunroof. the leak was repaired however between 08-11 there were numerous documented issues with electrical problems on this car relating to the water leak. on october 11, 2011 i was driving to work in the vehicle and all the electrical components shut off- radio, directionals, gages, lights. the car remained running and within seconds the electrical was restored. it has continued to shut on and off intermittently since then. i brought the car to the dealer and was told they were unable to diagnose the problem and that i should bring it back if it happened again. on the way home it happened again. i brought it back on oct. 12 and the same thing happened the whole drive to the dealer. they have since had the car and tell me they do not know what the problem is or how to fix it. i am being left to drive an unsafe vehicle and am told my only option is to trade it in. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while parked, the sunroof leaked water into the vehicle. the water also leaked from the drivers side air bag. the contact also stated that the leak occurred from the rear dome light. the contact also stated that while driving at 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred. the battery also failed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it could not be diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.
In 2011, our acadia electrical system started to malfunction. first the driver's side headlight wiring burnt. we had that replaced. after the headlight, we started noticing the engine light was coming on and the air bag sensor was notifying us that the air bags will not deploy. none of the sounds where coming on in the car. for example, if you were not wearing your seatbelt the "dinging" did not happen. i took the acadia in for service and they told me it was my cell phone that triggered the defect. i thank god i was not in an accident however if gmc knew of the defects why not be up front with us. my family and i travel plenty. safety is the number one concern, we bought the acadia faithfully and hopes gmc provides the best service possible. *js
Blower motor inoperative. replaced 08/12/11 and 06/06/12. it has an intermittent problem at the moment. living in the north in the winter time it is impossible to defrost the window if the blower motor doesn't work. *tr
1. accelerator pedal stuck to floor at 60mph and continued to pick up speed until driver threw car to neutral as brakes would not engage 2. air bag system has not been functional 3. tpms is inoperable light always on 4. seats are composed of polyurethane molded foam causing an array of health issues for myself and 2 children as car gets extremely hot 5. brakes engage during high speeds randomly causing car to slide 6. heavy metals/air plane parts found in many places of car 7. fumes inside constantly improperly routed fuel/emission system? 8. transmitters, ignition will not turn over unless fm transmitter in key is attached, should not be a hybrid or grid operated vehicle. spray foam and welded metal composed much of vehicle. medical white packing in much of gaps with a contaminated smell 9. lots of money trying to repair damage, owner filed bankruptcy lots of medical bills. dealers and manufacturer do nothing, i have wrote letters and many phone calls. 10. microwave effect on anyone in car along with magnetic pulls. i myself have had this car since feb 2011. i have lost some nerve function on left side of my body leaving me with multiple scars for life down left side of body and center forehead resembling radiation burns but i never underwent radiation. i lost my hair in 2012 along with joint damages. please do something, i am not an experiment and never agreed to be one! *tr
Air cond turns on but will not blow. mechanic removes cover and my blower motor is standing in 3 inches of water. any more water would have leaked onto the floor of my car. water in an electrical component is not safe. if i get water inside, i will also have mold or mildew. this is not safe for us to breathe. i do not feel this should be my cost. this is manufacturing or engineering negligence. it is not normal wear and tear. *tr
2008 gmc acadia slt has severe water leakage inside the cabin that cause significant damage to interior carpeting and panels. electrical problems also begin to happen such as back up assist disabled, air bag light flashing, rear windshield wipers not shutting off and more i am sure will happen as water enters the cabin and areas that you cannot see. this is a potentially dangerous condition that needs to be recalled and addressed by general motors. fire hazards and injuries due to malfunctioning equipment might occur. there are videos and plenty of complaints from other owners on the internet of this same issue and i am shocked that no actions have been made by gm. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the water pump had failed. the vehicle was repaired.in addition, the contact stated that the transmission failed and she was not able to exceeded more than 10 mph. the dealer repaired the fuel kit, housing, sensor and cover. however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 28,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that this was the second time the sun roof drain line shifted and leaked water down the headliner. the failure flooded the driver side of the vehicle, side air bag, and visor without warning. the dealer diagnosed that the sun roof drained cube shifted and needed to be replaced. also, the carpet and panel of the driver side had mold and needed to be to replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
When first starting engine a loud pop would occur. signals, clock, stereo, dome light, battery gauge stopped working. chevrolet dealer replaced the stereo and amplifier ($1500 ). then if i left acadia in the rain i would find a small puddle of water on the floor under the emergency brake and a drop of water on the air bag on the driver side in front of the vehicle. was told it could be the sun roof tubes were blocked so i took it to the auto glass place and had the tubes cleaned out. very concerned about the water because i do not want to loose power in vehicle again. just went on a trip and had to park outside in parking area and had a real puddle on my mat and underneath the mat. today i called an auto windshield repair shop to see if the windshield could be leaking and was told that if the car was not in an accident or if it has not had the windshield replaced, they didn't think it would be the windshield leaking, that gm was good about installing and sealing the windshield. my car is kept in the garage and i am the only driver. it has never been in an accident and i am afraid that the wiring will short out, cause a soft spot in the floor, or start a fire. this automobile has only 69,285 miles and has been very well taken care of by only general motors dealerships. serious problem involving wet elements and electrical problems here. please let me know what to do! *tr
Repeated (at least 5 times) leak along the airbag driver and passenger side. dealer says they fix it and the problem reappears on the next rain event. causing electrical problems and mold problem in the car. *tr
I own a 2008 gmc acadia with melting headlights. the plastic housing is melting and the bulbs are melting into the sockets. i have had problems for many months with the electrical system including replacing 3 batteries in 1 1/2 years. i have had the vehicle checked by the dealer which finds "no problem" with the electrical system, and no explanation for the battery life. with intense heat that would be necessary to cause this socket to melt, metal and all, is of great concern, and is a potential fire hazard. this vehicle also was involved in a recent recall for possible fire with heated windshield wipers (now disconnected). hopefully, this can be investigated, so that no one gets hurt. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shut off once the key was turned to the off position. the contact could remove the key from the ignition, but the vehicle continued to run until the battery died. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the engine continued to run due to an electrical shortage caused by a water leak. the dealer replaced the molding around the sun roof where the water was leaking in from. the failure continued, as water continued to leak into the vehicle and the engine continued to run when the key was removed from the ignition. the contact also stated the headlights were malfunctioning as well. the failure mileage was 27,000.
Vehicle leaks water when it rains onto driver and front passenger. water leaks into airbags and visors. after rains, vehicle will not turn off, even with key removed. vehicle rolls significantly while in park or when in gear. transmission skips and slips. *tr
I have had multiple problems with the daytime driving lights over heating and causing the entire headlight assembly to melt. incidences on 8-1-09 8-15-09 4-8-10 and 11-15-12. and again in 2013. the fact that there is enough heat to melt the assembly to the housing tells me there is possibility of a fire. this is obviously a design and mechanical flaw of the vehicle. the consumer end of this is that along with the chance of fire, the vehicle's design requires the entire front grill to be removed in order to replace the headlight wiring harness and housing. this labor intensive method means that replacing this part can cost upward of $900. and it still does not address the initial problem of the overheating that caused the wiring harness to melt into the housing. so you are just waiting for it to happen again and hope that it is within the 30 days warranty for repairs. and wondering if my car is going to catch fire. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the air bag, the stability control, and traction control warning lights failed along with the daytime running lights failed. the contact also stated that the engine overheated and the power steering also failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the light bulb was replaced but the failure recurred. the dealer was also unable to diagnose the other failures. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.
Existing odi id number references for 2007 acadias: 10255735, 10254149, 10248331, 10211267, 10210839, 10210533. existing odi id number references for 2008 acadias: 10246694, 10243591, 10241649, 10230134, 10229896, 10212682. the above odi id numbers signify existing complaints identifying water leaks and resulting damage in 07 & 08 gmc acadias. gm instituted recall campaign #08207: customer satisfaction - sunroof water leak-install drain tube extensions dated: aug 27, 2008. campaign was preceded by numerous tsbs linked to the same type of water leak. *** purchased certified vehicle on 3/4/09. tsb #08027 performed prior to certification and sale. service manager stated water was present in the rear dome lamps and headliner. returned to dealer 3/5/09 for water in the passenger floor area. tsb # 080857003a was performed. prior title owned by a commercial entity and most likely never responded to these issues. picked up vehicle on 3/6/09. still taking in rain water. took back to dealer on 3/9/09. door seals replaced and returned on 3/11/09. has not rained since this posting but concern is for electrical integrity on vehicle as water leakage was concentrated near main fuse block near kick panel and main wiring harness under passenger floor area. mold is also a concern as dealer has not replaced carpeting or headliner but only cleaned affected area. vehicle is used for transport of family over long distances and an electrical failure during on road use can be catastrophic. *tr
In light of the all the safety recalls by gm for ignition switch failures, i believe that my wife's crash in our 2008 gmc acadia was the direct cause of the ignition switch failing. driving north bound on az route 89 in the area of prescott, az called the granite dells, the car proceeded straight where the road turns slightly to the right. the cat proceeded into and partially up a granite stone out cropping on the opposite side of the road. the car then went air borne landing up side down on its roof in the middle of route 89. i believe that this accident happened due to ignition switch failure which in turn shut off the engine, power steering, and the entire air bag system which in this accident fail to deploy. my wife was air lifted to northern arizona medical center in flagstaff, az for sever head injure from which she has recovered. it is my belief that the ignition failures that have shown up on other gm cars is also a problem for the 2008 gmc acadia and possibly other like models of gm vehicles. in my opinion it has to be ignition switch failure that shut down the engine, power steering and air bag system causing this accident. *js
Water leaking in into passenger area and on instrument panel body electrical centre causing fuse block to become wet and short out. all dash display went out and came back on with the "service air bag "service tire maintenance system" illuminated. purchased car on 7/16/08 and leaking occurred approx 1 month later on 8/18/08. have had to take car back to dealer several times. it has been at dealer 2 of the 6 weeks i have owned it. i am concerned that air bag will deploy. have contacted gmc and they are very un-helpful. *tr
Power-liftgate-problems-power liftgate reverses while opening and closing causing me to get hit in the head i bought this vehicle used july 25 2008. to see this happen go to you tube for a video
My complaint concerns my 2008 acadia delivered sept.2007. currently with less than 5,900 miles on it. it is now in the shop for failure to start for the third time. the battery is somehow being dischanged. other than replacing the original battery, on the first occurance, the dealer service can not seem to track down the source of the problem. they say that the charging system checks out ok. it does seem to start fine for a while, several weeks, then all of a sudden it will have a dead battery over night. nothing is ever left on. i check that each time the garage door is closed. the headlights always go out in one minute, if on. while driving i do notice the voltmeter on numerous occassions well stay at about +15 volt charging rate. i know that it should be no higher than about +13.5 volts, and sometimes it does, but most times, not. i am concerned about a possible fire danger and being stranded somwhere. i am an aircraft a&p. my trouble shooting thoughts point to a starter shorting. i could be wrong but i would start there and prove that not to be the problem. easiest fix first, the air force way. *tr
Turned down a road and felt something pop and then the transmission would not shift out of 2nd. gear. since then have had several issues with the transmission shifting to excessively. that some issues with extremely excessive shifting. once my wife pulled out into traffic and the transmission would not shift causing a man in a truck to slid off of the road to avoid hitting her because the vehicle would not shift and go down the road. and also with the battery dying for no reason. this has happened 4 different times. *tr
Severe water damage to vehicle due to manufacture defective roof drains. *tr
