We have classified the 66 complaints from 2007 GMC Acadia about STEERING into the following categories.
Purchased this car aug 2017 fixed moon roof clogs and leaks on the inside, passenger side window will not go down on drivers controls, stabilitrak system shuts off, making the car hard to steer, check engine lights comes on, codes 700-shift solenoid a stuck; code 752-transmission control system, acceleration is unreliable and goes into "limp home mode" where it will not allow me to go over 40-45mph and rpm does not go down, it will not shift easily from park to drive or reverse
Our vehicle only has 86k miles and the rack and pinion is leaking heavily. the dealer stated that this is a known issue, but it is out of warranty. sometimes, the power steering cuts out and it is very difficult to move the steering wheel. we believe that this imposes serious risk while driving and the problem can happen at any time. there is no repeatable scenario to demonstrate the failure. it is random. the front engine cover also leaks oil heavily. the dealer also stated this is a known issue. this could result in rapid engine oil loss and engine failure while driving. i took the vehicle to the dealer yesterday for inspection. unfortunately no pictures were taken, but their two technicians inspected the vehicle and agreed on the known issues. the service advisor also agreed on the known issues. i inquired about gm helping with these known issues, but the dealer stated that their district aftersales manager was not kind or helpful and would revert to general motor's online goodwill calculator. he accessed the online system which determined my vehicle was out of warranty and/or coverage and that there was no goodwill available to use for my vehicle. we're not looking for goodwill, but rather for gm to repair these high risk product failures. since these components wear with use, not time, we feel that with our low usage, these components should not have failed.
2007 gmc acadia, has had problem steering issues since purchased, loud whining noise from power steering, steering was fine for a along while even with the noise but now power steering has cement, truck engine stopped running with out any warning, issues in electrical system, windows not always rolling down and lift gate intermittently opens while driving or it won't open at all sometimes, power too lift gate seems too be gone when opening
We got this 2007 gmc acadia at 100,230 miles on august 2014. now it has around 133,800 miles. at 115,000 miles it stated to have issues where it said stability track. the traction control turns off by itself and not sure if the stability and this are the same thing. some electric parts have already failed. the charging outlet and electric windows don't work right. the passenger side can not be put down by driver side. the rear right side can only be put down of up by the driver. the left rear does not work when the driver puts it down or up. the power in the lift gate in the back has gone out. it only opens or closes manually. there was also a recall with the lift gate and we got it fixed. after it was fixed then a while later it would close on us and it almost hit us but we reacted fast. it only closed on us about three times then it stopped working. it was recall 15240.the safety issue is that the steering wheel gets hard to turn when making a turn or u turn. it has happened many times as i am driving. one time is almost made me crash into a car. i have taken it to two mechanics and it has engine and transmission codes. for just the transmission codes it will cost me up to $4,000. according to the carfax records it has had internal transmission repairs at 53,543 miles. i feel like this car post a safety issue because of the steering wheel problem. we have had this car for 3years and we have experienced many problems with it. gm should pay for this faulty parts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. while driving, the contact heard a loud noise when turning the vehicle. the stability rack and traction control indicators illuminated before and during the failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion failed. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 111,383. *tt *tr
Power steering doesn't work in a low speed or when ur using the gas it gets really hard when ur driving on the roads specially when ur tuning in a stop sing or light is dangerous i almost get in a accident i'm glad de other car notes that's and get away
I was driving home and as i was making a slow turn into my driveway the power steering all of the sudden cut out and i slid off the road and into a ditch. as i have browsed the internet there are thousands of reports of similar happenings.
My power steering is leaking. some recalls have been made on other vehicles but not mine.
The sunroof leaks and causes electrical problems. suddenly while driving the power steering gears, rack, and bushings are defective causing the power steering to go out during low speeds. tried having it replaced under the recall, however, 9 months later the same thing happened and nobody wants to fix it or allows for the dealer to replace it again. this is a major safety feature that should never be acceptable! also, the transmission already had to be replaced and is going out again. the manufacture made a faulty vehicle and should be held accountable for these parts and the labor not to mention the inconvenience of having to fight with the dealer and gm to get the problem corrected.
Anytime i turn thepower steering is gone at low speeds. i have searched the problem and almost every acadia owner has had this problem.
I experienced the issue while driving in the city about 25 mph. i lost power steering while turning and almost hit another car. i have received a recall letter from gm and i scheduled an appointment with the dealership. they required my vin number to check and make sure my car was covered under the recall and assured me that it was. i then took my car to the dealer and after they had it for 4 hours, i received a call stating they won't cover it because i exceeded the mileage by 10,000 miles. the dealership then attempted to make me pay a diagnostic fee. i contacted gm and they are not willing to do anything to help. i have owned my car for 2 years and they are just now notifying me about the recall. the dealership was only willing to give me a 5% discount off of $1084. i have expressed my feeling on this and explained that i just received the letter and that the car is 8 years old, why did it take them so long to contact the customers. they really expect a 8 year old car to have less then the 150,000 mile limit they set. i also expressed that this is a serious safety issue when you lose all power steering while driving. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. while driving 25 mph and making a left or right turn, the vehicle vibrated and there was a loss of power steering. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000.
Steering locks up when driving down the road causing you to lose all control of your vehicles steering. we almost hit traffic light and hit by a semi on the interstate. also transmission failed and will loose all power when your driving down the road. this vehicle is dangerous to drive and is a very common problem. this needs to be recalled or a class action lawsuit needs to be opened. this vehicle only has 88,000 miles on it and is a hazard to drive. *tr
Twice, in a matter of 24 hours, as we were pulling out of our driveway, the power steering stopped abruptly. fortunately we were moving slowly in our driveway at the time. following each incident the car was put in park and there was a loud screeching sound when stepping on the gas pedal. just as quickly as both problems occurred, they disappeared. we have also been dealing with wiring issues. sometimes the speakers work sometimes they don't. sometimes the warning systems (i.e back-up alarm, keys in ignition, low fuel level, door ajar, etc.) sounds and other times they don't. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel seized and excessive force on the steering wheel was required. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the mechanic stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
While rounding a highway off ramp, power steering got extremely stiff. there were no other problems with the system prior. i got home, checked the fluid, and it was full. the next day i went to my local gmc dealer to discuss problem and repairs. the service writer stated "we know there is a problem with the power steering systems on these vehicles, and they typically fail in the 70 to 90 thousand mile range." then they wanted $2000 for repairs. repairs which are getting done cheaper at my local garage. my problem with this, is that gm knows there is a safety defect with this vehicle, but has done nothing to remedy the problem, other than make people feel that they have to spend huge amounts of money to fix. i also understand this is the same action the company took in the ignition issue they are currently going through. yes, i am angry at gm for not backing their product, but that is not why i am writing to you. i am writing to you, because i am a first responder, and see first hand what can happens with safety issues to vehicles. what if this issue happened to someone who knows little about cars, other than how to fuel and drive them safely? what if it was a family and their children in the vehicle when this happened and they did have an accident? i understand all hypotheticals, but a safety issue none the less. thank you for your time. *tr
While driving the vehicle the steering lock up . my wife almost got into a accident this happen twice it also happen to me i took it to the dealer they could not pin point the problem they gave me a paper about intermittent stiff steering i told them this is very dangerous we just bought the truck a year ago for 20.000 dollars
While making a turn during a rain storm the engine belt began to squeal and i subsequently lost power steering and the battery warning light came on. i was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road without incident until the power steering came back. i've had this happen several times during rain events since i've owned the vehicle. it appears to occur when excessive water gets onto the drive belt controlling the engine and power steering unit. *tr
After traveling 160 miles and exiting the freeway the power steering was inoperable stopped to check fluid was full. steering is fine as long as the car is above 20 mph. stopped at small town shop, mechanic informed me that this is nothing new with this car. and that gmc has plenty of changes when replacing the system both pump and rack as well as different fluid but would not help me with any cost. for what is worth the nhtsa knows all about this problem would not hold my breath on them doing anything about the problem until this car is fully loaded with eight people and they all are killed then they will wake up! *tr
Power steering does not function at all in low speeds or warm weather. power steering fluid changed by dealer to transmission fluid in 2013 per dealer bulletin and it still does not work. *tr
I was driving to the store, going down hill on the right side of the road. mid-way down a message appeared on the computer saying "engine failure, power off" and the car just shut down with out warning. no matter how hard i pressed on the gas the car was shut off. the steering went out as well and i had to stand in the seat to use all my power to turn the wheel. previous to this, the check engine light had not been on, no advance warning of this. i had both of my children in the car at the time. luckily there was a bp gas station with garage at the bottom of the hill, i was able to coast the car into the gas station where they ran diagnostic testing and repaired my car and reset the sensors. nine months later i was driving with both of my children again, in north east washington dc when out of no where the same message appeared. i was able to pull the car over to the side of the road and restart the engine one time. i turned around to go home and on the drive home the same thing happened on a less of an incline of a hill. the car shut down completely towards the top of the hill going down. same as before, no gas and no steering ability. i was too scared to leave the car on the side as cars coming over the hill would not have time to stop before hitting us. i put the car in neutral and tried to glide down the hill to the shell station. the car cut out completely and lost all momentum so i had to push the car into the gas station and wait 3 hours for the tow truck to arrive. it went back to the bp station from february and had a new battery and several other items replaced. i bought this car new in 2007 and have had countless breakdowns and replacements- two transmissions within the first 3 years and repairs. i keep up with car maintenance regularly and do no neglect anything. *tr
The vehicle has two problems. the radio works, but there is no sound for the back up warning, turn signals or radio. this problem occurs in the gmc acadia, chevrolet traverse and the buick enclave. the problem is likely the premature failure of the bcm or the amp. when driven in the rain, the power steering fails momentarily and it is very difficult to control the vehicle. *tr
The first issue was the water pump, replaced it and 2 months later out went the power steering pump. at that time of replacing the power steering pump the dealership also replaced the rack and pinion and timing chain. now, it's the transmission. going rounds with gm to get them to take care of the issue in its entirety. this vehicle doesn't even have 63k miles on it! this vehicle is defective in every which way. i'm worried about what will go out next. i was looking for something reliable and safe and this acadia has been everything but that. i have several friends that are also experiencing the same issues. let the game begin. i have never had a vehicle that i feel is so unsafe and unreliable. i am a hard working woman who drove the same car for 13 years and had none of the issues that i am having with this acadia that i paid twice as much for! so, to anyone wanting to purchase an acadia, do reconsider, even as dependable as you feel your dealership may be...it will be a lemon in the long run. be prepared to get your gloves on in the ring with gmc as i'm currently doing...as i'm driving a dealership loaner, for 2 days now...good luck! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact received an unknown notification from the manufacturer that indicated that the power steering and transmission would be repaired for free if the failure occurred under the accepted warranted mileage. the contact mentioned that the transmission was repaired, but the gear shift failure recurred intermittently. in addition, while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the dealer did not repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
Driving in moderate rain around a corner at approximately 25mph. the steering wheel locked up for 1-2 seconds almost causing a crash with my two children in the vehicle. this has happened several times since i bought the vehicle 2 years ago. i brought it to the dealer and the put a new piece inside the wheel well but it has not fixed the problem. it recently happened to my wife in the same circumstances which almost caused a head on collision with another vehicle. the children were in the vehicle at the time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. when driving various speeds in wet conditions, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
In the rain or during wet road conditions the serpentine belt gets wet due to it's location at the bottom of the engine compartment. when this occurs the belt starts to slip causing an intermittent squealing and intermittent lose of steering control. *tr
On two separate occasions in rainy weather i was unable to steer my car and turn it because water had gotten on the belts and belts were slipping and i had no power steering to control the car. i was told at the dealership that i needed to have both front inner wheel well front covers replaced. this would eliminate water getting on the pulleys and eliminate the slippage of the belts that run the power steering. i later found out that there was a technical bulletin out to correct this condition. i had to pay for this work that was done which i felt should be covered by gmc as i feel it is a safety issue. i almost hit two other vehicles as a result of my not being able to steer my car and that was quite scary. i would not want this to happen to anyone else with this model car. *tr
Power steering stops working for 5 to 10 seconds after making a turn through water often no more than a few inches in depth. usually occurs during or after rain, when water has accumulated at intersection corners or resident/business entrances. when this occurs, it becomes almost impossible to change the direction the vehicle is traveling in and has almost resulted in an accident twice so far. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. while driving 60 mph, the contact noticed that the power steering had suddenly stopped functioning. the vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileages were 100,000.
Power steering went out completely with absolutely no warning while driving my child to school. luckily i was not in a vehicle accident. this has happend to me twice already for this vehicle. both power steering and rack and pinion have gone out while driving and has been replaced twice by gmc in the past 9 months! *tr
There has been a whine in my steering column on my 2007 gmc acadia . yesterday i was driving along a 2 lane road going into a sharp curve. i was turning my steering column to the right towards the curve, but the steering column made a loud noise and would not respond almost causing me to hit head on into an incoming car on the opposite side of the road. the car finally did respond and a wreck avoided, but that is not the point. there are numerous forums about this particular thing happening to other gmc acadias as well. the power steering going out is definitely a safety hazard and is not covered under their 100,000 mile warranty. i took my car to a auto repair shop and they indicated that the power steering pump was indeed leaking and needed replacement. these "incidents" need to be addressed and a recall put in place immediately on the acadia. the dealership has not wanted to take care of anything under warranty unless my vin matched the one on a particular recall even when i was having the exact problems in the recall. *tr
Wow what a shock another gcm acadia with steering problems! i was turning a few days ago and my steering wheel locked up and it actually felt like i lost a lot of power when this happened like it was going to stall. i nearly crashed into another car because of this. it isnt a constant problem but it occurs probably 75% of the times i turn and my turns are super wide now. i cannot park on the first try which is ridiculous it takes me now 3 or 4 tries to park in a space at work. i feel like im driving my dads 1965 chevy that didnt come with power steering. why hasnt this been recalled?? are you waiting for someone to get killed because they couldnt turn fast enough??? thats negligence!! i found hundreds of different complaints about this same problem online and nothing has been done!! fix this please!
My 2007 gmc acadia has always had very poor traction on wet roads and sometimes on dry roads. yesterday i was driving on the freeway in heavy rain when the steering wheel suddenly jerked to the right as though my right front tire had run over a large object. a few minutes later it jerked right then left then right again. each time the steering wheel would lock for an instant. i found myself partly over in the other lane. a very dangerous situation. i didn't notice any warning lights. this problem occurred twice more before i realized that it seemed to be happening only on upsloping parts of the road or when i tried to accelerate. as i had always suspected, the traction control system on this car is faulty and dangerous. faulty power steering cold also be a possibility. i tried to drive home at a steady speed and had no further problems. about a year ago i told my local gmc dealer that i thought the car had very poor traction and the system should be looked at. they told me they checked it out and there was no problem. *tr
When i purchased the vehicle there was a noticeable whine in the steering. i asked the salesman and he said that noise was typical with acadia's and there was no issue with the car. when i took it in for an oil change at a different dealer right before we left on vacation, i was told the power steering pump was going out and needed to be replaced immediately. did that even though we were delayed going on vacation and subsequently had it replaced two more times as well. also have had leaks in the sunroof that continue to return, and have now messed up my power window controls to the point that i can not control any of the other windows from the drivers seat. have had to replace the water pump, front struts, and now the solenoids are being replaced as well. when i purchased my car it had right at 54k miles on it and i had an extended warranty, that covered my power steering pump issues, but i have had to deal with the rest. i will have now put almost $3k into repairs that seem to be very typical with this car, based on what i have read on the internet. *tr
Transmission dead-racing rpm without gear shifting, broken wave plate inside transmission is the cause. water leaking from sunroof when raining, constant whinning in steering column. all these major problems under 75k miles. *tr
I have a 2007 gmc acadia with 59,000 miles on it. at 29,000 miles on it, they replaced the power steering pump. now at 59,000 they are saying it needs a steering rack and pinion assembly and possibly a pump. after doing some research online, i found that these items have a very high failure rate in these vehicles. this seems like an obvious defect that would be very dangerous, especially considering that when these parts fail, the vehicle is almost if not definitely impossible to steer. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact stated that after her vehicle was serviced, she was informed that her steering rack and opinion needed to be replaced. they advised her that it was due to insufficient grease. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000. updated 06/16/11*lj updated 06/27/11
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would lock and the vehicle would make a grinding noise when making turns. she also stated that the gas gauge fluctuates and does not display the accurate amount of gas left in the vehicle. an inspection was done by the dealer and they advised her that she needed to replace the rubber on the steering column and the gas gauge. the steering repair was completed but not the gas gauge. the failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the power steering failed when it rained or whenever water was in the wheel well and made contact with the pulley. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. they stated that they could add a fender cover that would prevent water from splashing onto the power steering. the fender cover was not covered under the warranty and would cost the contact $200. the manufacturer was called and stated that they would contact the dealer to confirm the failure. the manufacturer also stated that they would call the contact with further details. the failure mileage was 38,000.
2007 gmc acadia. consumer writes regarding the rack and pinion steering being replaced with low mileage. *tgw
I purchased a brand new 2007 gmc acadia in nov. of 2007. since new it has had a steering issue that can not be fixed. the rack and pinion has been replaced and the vehicle has burned up numerous powersteering pumps. the steering, while in a curve, will lock up and then release throwing the vehicle in the direction the wheel is turned. it has thrown the vehicle into the other lane of on coming traffic as well as throwing the vehicle of the road into a fence. each time the dealership has picked the vehicle up replaced the steering pumps but the problem still remains. the vehicle currently has 47,000 miles on it. the transmission locked up and the shifting components were replaced, then the transmission locked up and was replaced. the steering issue is are main concern. it was taken in on 9/28/10 and received new transmission and powersteering pump. we received the vehicle on 10/25/2010. on, 10/28/10 the vehicle steering locked up again throwing my wife off the road into a fence. there is no way that gm has put three bad power steering pumps on the vehicle. the vehicle has a more serious problem that is binding the steering causing the pumps to burn up. the same problem has made the vehicle unsafe to drive due to the danger of it locking up and throwing the vehicle into on coming traffic. i have all service records reporting this issue. i will not allow my back in this vehicle and i am not comfortable trading it in for another family to be killed in it. i could not live with that. gm will doing nothing about as they have been contacted. please help me get a replacement for this vehicle (same year model type and equally equipped) and get this vehicle off the road. i could trade it in as gm wants me too and they will give me $1600 off the trade. but could not sleep at night knowing i put someone else and their families in danger with this vehicle. my email is [xxx]phone # [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I own a 2007 gmc arcadia and sometimes when i go through water (if it's been a heavy rain) my power steering does not work and it's very difficult to steer the car which could be a very dangerous situation. it happened when we were on vacation and we stopped at a auto repair shop and the owner came out and opened the hood and showed my husband that the power steering serpentine belt slipped. there is no covering over the belt and when it gets wet, it can slip. when we explained what happened, that we lost the power steering, he knew exactly what the problem was as he had other people that had the same problem. if we had been on a major highway, doing 65 miles an hour it could have been a tragedy. it also happened again during the christmas holiday. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact was driving 35 mph and making a turn when the power steering failed and caused the steering wheel to become extremely difficult to turn. the contact was then able to drive the vehicle to a local dealer where they replaced the steering pump. after the repair was performed, the vehicle continued to exhibit the exact the same failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer a total of three times yet the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 67,000. updated 02/09/11*lj updated 11/29/2011 *ln
On several occasions when the car goes through water/puddle the vehicle loses power steering. there is a loss of steering. on some occasions the loss is momentary but the last time it was more than momentary - while having gone through a small puddle of water and then going to make a left turn the steering completely failed and i was unable to complete a turn. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact was driving 10 mph and attempting a turn when the power steering assist failed without warning. the contact stated there was an abnormal noise coming from the fan belt. the manufacturer advised the contact that they were aware of the failure and that the vehicle would need to be inspected by an authorized dealer. the contact stated the failure would only occur during rainy weather and when driving through standing water. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 53,117. updated 12/23/10*lj updated 01/01/11*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph and attempting a right turn, the steering wheel would not return to the original straight position. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they stated that the wheel well needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and stated that he needed to the vehicle to the dealer for further diagnosis. the failure mileage was 50,000
In 2010 i reported a noise in the steering. gmc dealership determined that the steering rod needed replaced. they worked on the vehicle and when driving away the steering still had the same noise. obviously this was not the steering rod causing the issue. i reported this issue again and they determine that there was no power steering fluid. they added fluid and it temporarily caused the noise to go away. there has been many complaints about this issue with two separate gmc dealerships over the years. finally now that my acadia has 55,000 miles the dealership tells me the noise is the steering column and is wanting to charge me $1450 to fix it. this was under warranty when the problem came up and i feel it should be covered under warranty by gmc manufacturer since this was an issue early on with this vehicle. gmc is also having issue with steering column in 2009 -2012 gmc automobiles so this is not a new issue. *tr
My family and i were traveling on i-20 back from columbia in my 2007 gmc acadia. i noticed a whining noise, tighten in the steering, told my husband that we need to stop for gas and check the fluids. yielding at the next exit i could not turn the steering wheel. i finally with all my strength turn the vehicle into a hess gas station. we check fluids and called onstar for a diagnostics report. the customer service rep told us that they did not see anything in the major parts but did try to call a gm dealership (king cadillac). king was not open and would schedule an appt on monday. my husband drove the vehicle to the dealership, which we left for early drop off. received a call from technical on monday pm, which stated it was the power steering pump. asked him about if there was any complaint or recalls on the pump because the power steering pump was replace back at 14,000 miles. this would be the 3rd pump that has been put on this car. i have been researching and noticed that there was a technical service bulletin on sept. 10, 2008 for this problem and many complaints since 2008. *tr
When turning steering wheel it makes whining and groaning noises. dealer attempted fix which resolved problem for about 1 month and then sounds came back. dealer refuses to fix now, stating that gmc has told them not to fix it and is "working on a fix" (which was 3 months ago). still no fix being offered. *tr
