The abs light comes on. then the vehicle is fine for days then it comes on again for no reason. this problem has been infrequent and has only recently before more of a issue. usually the problem goes away and does not come back for weeks. i went to the local advance auto so they could pull the code and identify which wheel was sending the code so i could narrow it down and replace parts as necessary. the codes pulled are followed. c1185, c1198, c1194, c1254,c1246, c1250, c1242, c1214 & c1210. that's right 9 abs codes came out. the 1st on is the problem c1185, the rest are failures at each wheels inlet outlet valves. when searching the c1185 issue i found 100's of complaints online for this issue and many dealership horror stories. too many back yard hacks tell people to disconnect this or that, or pull the ecm only to have that not fix the issue and others telling how they were able to resolder the abs module connections and fix the issue. the one common problem that caused issues was having a dealership brake job done and then the abs systems fails the next day or following week. i have to say that i did not notice this issue after doing the brakes, but i did have them done prior to the abs system failures starting.
April, noticed that cruise control not working 100% of time - not engaging and not disengaging!! opted not to use it anymore. july, abs and brake light on and didn't shut off while in home garage. shut van off, restarted it, lights off. august, lights seem to be coming on with more frequency. doesn't seem to be speed related. september, abs and brake light coming on more frequently. seems to reset (for short time) after shut van off. october, had brake system checked. disc rotor - r&r; control arm w/ ball joint - lower - front suspension; rear brakes serviced; brake fluid flush. thought that would have "fixed" everything however less than 10 days later, the abs and brake lights are coming on again while driving. turn van off, turn back on - lights reset - until next time i drive it!! after reading through, realize that the two might be related. safety is a must!! *tr

Brake light and abs lights are on, brakes are fine, fluid level is fine, but light is on. abs now not working. speedometer does not go above 40 mph until driven at least 3 miles, this is also causing the cruise control to not work smoothly. transmission is not shifting into overdrive, transmission is clean and working. all of these issues began within a few weeks of each other. *tr
A few days after buying the van the abs light started coming on, it goes on and off. my interior lights have flashed on and off, my passenger window no longer works! and the gear shifter is loose and sometimes hard to get into park. *tr

On my 2003 windstar i have been having problems with the abs for quite some time don't know the exact time that it first happened its been a few years. the abs lights come on and shut off periodically. as of today the check engine light came on and the abs and brake lights came on. and the cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing i went to get the codes read and the fuse was blown so i changed it and it blew right away again so put in one more so the codes could be read. it came up with 18 codes from just one day they are c1145, c1234, c1185, c1198, c1194, c1254, c1246, c1250,c1242, c1214, c1210, c1446 ,u1262, b1318 all having to do with the abs they could tell me exactlly what was going on and told me to google it. also codes p0171, p0174. *js
I had prior brake issues. took my van to be inspected and had complete rear brakes replaced and front brakes were still ok, not needing replacement. after about 20 miles on my way out of town on my new brakes, the abs and brake lights came on. got back in town and took it back to where i got the new brakes. they said the brakes were fine, just not seated yet, so they ran a scan. my van threw the code c1185 (abs control module circuit relay) and i was told i needed to have an electrical diagnosis done. *tr

The 2003 ford windstar has a 'brake light' and a 'abs light'. when driving the car the abs and brake lights will both come on (but the car's brakes are not impacted). after a few minutes the two lights will go out. from what i have read on-line this is a fault in some module. the brakes themselves are not at issue but it provides false warning lights. a web site that tracks ford windstar issues says: "the (mostly unservicable) ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the abs light and dtc c1185. it also causes the enhanced abs braking system to become inoperable. if your abs light is on. report the problem at nhtsa - safercar.gov. use the category brakes, the more reports the better a chance of continued action." so, i am reporting this flaw. *tr

Abs brake light will turn on and off at random times. also, brake (e-brake) light comes on, interior lights occasionally flash, all running lights and headlights have gone out (really bad when driving down highway at night), and loss of all electrical (radio, lights, heater fan, dash illumination, headlights, running lights, etc... all go out at same time). alternator and several batteries have been replaced. electric windows will occasionally stop working as well. obviously the huge issue here is the fact that the abs system may be disabled, dash warning lights randomly come on and off, and all electrical shuts off, with losing headlights and running lights being the biggest issue! *tr

The abs light, advanced trac control indicator light, and dash lights are flashing on and off intermittently for several seconds. alarms beep and the engine loses power. this has occurred multiple times over the past several weeks. then coming onto the freeway this morning it occurred again and the engine shut off. it would not restart. after almost getting hit by another vehicle as a result of the engine shutting off, i was able to pull over and turned off the key. tried to start the van several times and after a few tries it started and i was able to get off highway without getting hit. this is a recurring problem many 03 windstar van owners are experiencing. called ford and they said it is not a documented problem with them. i have read hundreds of comments from other owners experiencing these same problems. ford dealerships have repaired/replaced various components to correct this problem but it keeps recurring. something needs to be done. it is a design thing. *tr
