Owner of 03 ford windstar. problem notice on the 2nd day of owning the car back in july 2010. after parked the car on driveway, noticed the parking brake light on. soon after, the abs light came on. took the car in for a total service of oil, coolant, brake, tranny fluid change. and had the abs light checked up. the technician informed me about the abs ecm board could be bad. without any other vehicle, i had to drive it to airport right after the auto shop. on the way to airport, the abs and brake light came on again. causing me taking my eyes off the road, trying to release the hand brake, while driving 65mph on highway swerve from lane to lane. it was very scary! i had to focus on whether the brake light had to do with actual brake, release accel pedal, no noticeable deceleration. checked the 101 and 102 fuse, both good. so i'm pretty sure the abs ecm circuit board had to do with it. today the abs and parking brake continues to come on and stay on. every now and then it doesn't light on. please help me and many others who are facing the same problems!! *tr

Brakes on 2003 windstar needed to be changed. after changing brakes and bleeding lines, abs and brake line would come on during driving intermittently and remain on. brake pedal would either be at acceptable level or have very little pedal (almost to floor. changed master cylinder, rebled the lines. still having intermittent abs and brake light come on (usually once a day and continuing to remain on) car has acceptable brake pedal, but cannot figure out why abs and brake light come on. have had car put on and scanned by computer 3 times...no faults show. this is a major concern as the brakes have remained fine for stopping, but will it continue or will i find myself with serious issues in the future??? *tr

Abs and brake lights began coming on my dash. they will go off periodically, and then come back on. the first date this happened was in 2010. i drive a 2003 ford windstar. i took it to the auto shop right away and was quoted over $1,000 to fix it. i asked what the part does and was told that it mostly controls the abs system. i asked him what i could do if i did not fix it, because there was no way i could afford that. he suggested to pump my brakes when braking. the system is dangerous when trying to make a fast stop. i have been hearing that it has happened to other vehicles of this same model vehicle. *tr

I bought a 2003 ford windstar new . i am the only driver 66 years old. i backed out of my driveway in jan. 2010 and could not go into reverse or forward. towed to dealer, had to replace transmission,000 km., factory rebuilt $ 3500. now april 2010 put 5000 km.on took in for oil change and to check on tranny, it was not shifting properly{stuttering}. mechanic said he had to replace torque converter, found fluid in and now replacing radiator. what next????? ford should be replacing transmissions, too many complaints. i am afraid to take it on the highway in case i loose it again. help! *tr

My 2003 ford windstar has been continuously giving my electrical problems. first the rear parking sensors disengage when in reverse. while driving the abs, brake and traction control lights come on the dashboard. i'm not sure what it does, but the vehicle does then not function properly. the traction control and brakes don't seem to be working properly. *tr

With no prior problems to report, i was suddenly unable to put my vehicle in gear after starting it. the gear-shifter felt somewhat loose as if i were parked at an incline without putting the hand brake on. however, i was parked on level ground. after turning the vehicle off, i was finally able to get the vehicle out of park and into neutral where i was able to start it and put it into drive. whenever i placed it in park it was extremely difficult to get it back into any other gear however, it would randomly go into gear as if there was no problem. but once placed back into park it would get stuck again. now there is all kinds of wacky electrical stuff going on...window swithches aren't functioning, no tail lights, fuel gage is not functioning and the remote alarm entry only unlocks the drivers side door. there is a clicking in the left side of the steering column when trying to utilize any of the listed electrical functions. *tr

I have a 2003 ford windstar with 94,000 on it. bought it second owner with 18,000 miles only on it and a 75,000 mile warranty. my entire frame is rusting from the door panels to the under frame, supports. heck i have a hole that developed the size of my fist in the side frame near the passenger sliding door in the rear. my hitch wont even hold cause the metal just bends inwards. there are cars on the road with 150,000 that do not have the rust my car does. why do i have to pay for the cheap metal they used during this process. now i have to buy a new car that i cannot afford at this time. i was hoping to keep my car for at least a couple more years but now i cannot, its dangerous. they even told me my rear axle is bending. i will continue to drive my car cause i cannot afford another and if i die so be it i guess cause i guess its all about business as usual. nothing personal but i am putting my blood on your hands and fords hands. i cannot drive and lose my job. if it happens it happens when it should have. my sister also has a windstar that collapsed this weekend upon making a turn thankfully at 25 mile per hour. i drive 70 at times where permissible. thank you for listening to my concerns and my distinct rudeness. i am just fed up with holding the bag for big business. i paid alot of money for this car. first owners paid 26,000 i paid 19,000 used only two years old. had it only five years. heck i had my dodge for ten. please please do something before i or someone else dies. *tr

Noise in power steering. *nm

Purchased a used van from local dealer. it has a dvd player already installed (not factory installed). approx. 6 months later, i complained to service assoc. while getting an oil change, that my radio does not get stations clearly. maybe there's a problem with the antennae. he said, "it's a ford thing" in 2005 i told same service assoc. that the 'door is ajar' light keeps coming on. the trunk. hatch light comes on and stays on even when back is closed. and the interior lights go on and off. and the dvd player no longer worked. he said it could be the contacts, and he would clean them but there's 'no guarantee". the next service check, i told him that the lights stay on after the doors are closed and i 'm afraid my battery will go dead. also that the power locks now go on and off while driving around. i was told that it was probably an electrical problem but that it was not under any warranty and it would be very costly,it could take hours and hours of looking for the problem and it may never be found. i went home and my husband purchased and changed the contact thing for the back door. the light for that back hatch then stopped staying on when the door was closed. i was very concerned about the locks going up and down while driving my three small children around. how could i know if the locks were engaged or not??? if there is a 'short; could a fire start?? i called the ford co. consumer number, explained my problems and the rep. just told me that "there is no recall for those problems with that van". i said i was afraid for my children's safety, not knowing if the doors were locked or open. when repeated her statement and said to take it to the dealer at my expense. it is now 2008, my locks continue to go up and down while driving randomly, i have to turn all the interior lights off and leave them off, already replaced a battery, back door is open light still stays on!! please advise me!! i am quite frustrated and nervous about this vehicle. *tr
