Brake lights came on suddenly when driving, cruise control stop working, svc engine light sometimes flash, was repaired in the past by dealer on 12/09/03 ( recall 09s09) for the same reason, right now i don't have a code but seems to be the same problem. *tr
The abs and brake lights come on at the same time yet the abs is working and so are the brakes. when i turn off the engine and restart the car, the lights go off. they occasionally came back on throughout the summer, but has not happened so far this fall/winter.i only put 7,500 miles a year on the van, so the problem might occur more frequently if i drove it more. i had it in to the dealer for other reasons and since the lights were not on, they didn't have a problem to investigate. *tr
I have taken my van into the ford dealer more than twice for the brakes making real bad noises when i first drive it for the day. ford dealer says it is brake dust and is normal for that year of van .the noise is real bad and i'm worried that it may cause a problem down the road.

Abs and brake light on. *tr
As i was driving from portsmouth nh to somersworth nh i noticed that the speedometer stopped working, the odometer had nothing but lines, no numbers, the overdrive light started blinking and the abs and brake lights came on. i also noted that smoke has been coming from under the hood when i stop at a light or stop sign. these symptoms match what has been recorded on line as follows, the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time develops a leak. this causes a short and a fuse trip, fuse #10 if the engine is on. this leak also causes brake fluid to wick down two wires to the abs brake module (2c219). the fluid accumulates on the (always on) power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. the fluid attacts moisture, road salt and leads to a fire when the fluid and moisture act as conductor between the hot leads and ground. this switch has been the subject of other ford recalls, just not the windstar van yet. below is a picture of the switch in question. notice the fluid that leaked on the part below it. this switch will cause cruise control problems, speedometer, odometer and abs brake system problems. i will not allow other family members to operate this vehicle and it appears that the ford motor company will not fix this issue even though there was a recall for this exact issue, recall #09s09 because they indicate that my vehicle is not covered under this recall. the recall states clearly that this issue can cause a vehicle fire with or without the vehicle running.
This has been happening since we bought the car, although the incident date i have submitted is this past week. the abs light and the brake light come on intermittently, but continually. the brakes pads have needed to be changed every 9-12 months. often it ends up being the disc that needs to be replaced because when the problem starts, the mechanic looks at the pads and they are fine; then a few weeks later the discs are ruined. now it has been only 6 months since the pads were replaced and they need replacing again. this is not normal. the problem begins by the abs and brake lights coming on more regularly. then the braking distance suddenly increases. as a result, the car does not have good control and i don't feel safe. we are constantly dealing with this problem and i have had enough. it is not safe. *tr
For the past year my abs and brake lights have come on intermittently. i took my car to a mechanic when this first started, he told me it looked like a fuse, we replaced the fuse but within a week the light started coming on again. i took my windstar into the dealer for the recall on the speed control and the rear axle. after searching online i have found a whole bunch of complaints for this exact problem. *tr

The abs and brake lights on the dashboard of my 2003 ford windstar have been illuminating intermittently (always together) for the last week. the latest event occurred after turning the van off for a minute or so and restarting. the lights were off (normal) prior to the restart for the duration of my first trip (about 15 minutes) and then turned on for the duration of my second trip (about 5 minutes). we have recently had cooler weather in the overnights with lows in the 50s after a long hot summer with daytime temperatures above 100 f, consistently above 80 f. nothing has been done to attempt repairs at this point. *tr

On several occasions the abs and brake lights in the dash come on for no apparent reason. my windstar was worked on last year (recall) to correct potential fire problem with the ecu module. these lights started coming on a couple months after that. i had the brakes checked and replaced the front pads but this did not correct the problem. upon checking the internet, i discovered that ford may not have done the recall correctly. *tr
Sit down, get a coffee, because you will be reading a book. i purchased a 2003 ford windstar, with 20,000 miles, in 2005. i've had nothing but major problems. in 12/2008 with 87,205 miles the transmission went, that was 2013.00 , then in 3-2009 check engine light, had to replace gaskets, that cost 500.00,. then in 10/15/2010 i had to bring van in for different sensors, and abs light, and emergency brake light kept coming on. that was . that was 232.00. then on 10/19/2010 brought van in to the ford dealer, because none of my gauges work, letting me know how fast i'm going, or how much gas i have. they say it is the gauge cluster, that's 500.00 alone not including labor, they inform me i have a hole in the left rear axle, and i have to leave the van there, and i may also need a new alternator, and it may takes weeks for the part to come in. that's not including other miner repairs along the way. the best part of all. i still have 6 payments left. what rights do i have? i can't believe all the major issues. they should take this van, and give me a different one. not a ford. i told you, that you were reading a book. *tr
I have a 2003 ford windstar and the abs and brake light comes on every time im out driving. i feel this is a safety hazard and needs the attention of the government to resolve this matter before we start losing families. *tr
Abs and brake light on. *tr
2003 windstar abs module has failed, causing both abs and brake lights to stay on after driving about five minutes once module warms up. when system fails, the abs system is disabled. turning off the engine and re-starting will sometimes clear the problem, but then it will reappear in a few minutes, especially in warm weather. the problem is less frequent in cold weather (takes longer to come on) but still occurs. replaced sensors in previous repairs. reviewed symptom on line and found they are consistent with defective abs controller problem caused by expansion of the controller heat sink after a few minutes of driving, causing a break in the attached circuit board. must replace abs controller to fix problem with this known defect. *tr
