I bought this vehicle in march of 2010. two months after buying it i was driving home from l.a. and didn't notice until to late that the od off light was flashing. i had it towed to ammco and was told that the torque converter went out and that the trans had to be replaced. so this is what i had done. since i had this replacement done with the transmission i have had the od off light flash on and off periodically. every time the light comes on i run it back over to ammco and they test it to find the same code over and over, torque converter/clutch error. they have since replaced the transmission a second time, contacted the manufacturer on several occasions and spoke with several sources of theirs and they cannot find the problem. they have since told me that there is nothing else that can be done and think that it may be caused by the abs/brake light occasionally coming on. *ln

Abs light and brake light are on ever since the recall (11/09) fix on the cruise switch. *tr

Abs and brake lights is on at the dashboard and abs doesn't work. *tr

The brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) developed a leak. this caused a short and a fuse trip, fuse #10 if the engine is on. this leak also caused brake fluid to wick down two wires to the abs brake module (2c219). the fluid accumulated on the (always on) power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. the fluid attracts moisture, road salt and leads to a fire when the fluid and moisture act as conductor between the hot leads and ground. lights that stay on are: abs,and brake, od flashes. speedometer and odometer do not work. also there is no heat or ac. *tr

Eha tire valve tr-414 cracked and leaked air from tire. occurred at slow speed so no catastrophic outcome. tire was damaged while driving and removing vehicle from roadway. new set of tires purchased july 2008. valve stem failure july 2009. purchase was from just tires brand was goodyear assurance comfortread. *tr

outrageous ,i have been researching the possible problem of an abs/brake light ,that keeps coming on in my 2001 ford wind star lx van. statement is 1999- 2003 ford windstar vans could have this and the problems that could occur. my oh my .. i have 3 children that ride in that van daily, i'm a low income parent. why would one take this chance with humans. i bought the van in march of 2009. 2 days later abs/ brake light came on. at the time i was told that i have an eagle warranty ..that might i add not even the ford dealer ship would except. i don't take chances where my children are involved. *tr

Coil spring on passenger side strut broke, has driver's side break the year before, had to replace whole strut / spring assembly, could've caused accident if the pieces would have hit the tires instead of wrapping around rest of spring. *tr

Abs and brake light came on while driving. when the car was turned off and restarted the warning lights would go off. this occurred intermittently for about 3 months. after a long driving trip in which the warning lights came on the cruise control would no longer function. i searched the web and found a web site stating possible problems if this was not addressed. i took my van to a ford dealer and they replaced the cruise control deactivation switch as well as the ecu and abs sensor. these were all mentioned in the article on the web. *tr

2001 ford windstar -brake light indicator, abs light indicator, odometer inop, squealing brake noise during turns, air conditioning just stopped working. *tr

i just recently brought my ford windstar (2001) to the repair shop due to some unexpected electrical malfunction. at first, both abs and brake light on the dashboard turned on then the odometer counter went blank, o/d light was constantly blinking and the air conditioning compressor will not engage. my mechanic told me about what he discovered under the dashboard, the abs mechanism damaged the electrical harness due to abs control fluid leak. i decided to look for the replacement parts on the internet due to a very costly repair and discovered that there is a lot out there having the same issues i had experienced. luckily my vehicle did not set on fire. i am surprised that ford company never took action on this issue knowing that this could lead to a very serious accident. kindly inform me if there is any recall from ford company regarding this problem. *tr

My abs brake light just started coming on it goes off but after a while of driving it comes back on. i took it to the shop and they couldn't find anything wrong they said the brakes looks good, they reset the abs brake light then 1 week later it came back on and has been on since i took it back to the shop and they still couldn't find anything wrong they put it on a machine that read no failed signal.*tr

The abs, brake, traction control lights come on and whenever it is warm out and the abs and traction control do not work! this is a serious safety issue effecting stopping and steering control and should be a ford safety recall. a faulty computer board expands and contracts causing malfunctions in the system. *tr

Upon starting the 2001 ford windstar van tuesday morning several of the warning lights stayed on, including the brake and abs lights. the digital odometer display changed from numbers to dashes and the speedometer remained at "0" when driving. also, the air conditioning (a/c ) stopped working. i took it to the ford dealership for repair. it took them 2 days to find the problem which turned out to be a defective cruise control deactivation switch. the service dept. manager said we were fortunate that the van did not catch on fire. he told us that the switch had completely melted and had charred the surrounding wires. this problem is very similar to the problem which caused the massive ford recall in 2005, but ford claims that this has never been a problem in their minivans. the ford dealership did repair the damage at a cost of about $700. i did not think to ask at the time if i could have the burned switch. i would like this to go on record in case there are other vans out there with the same problem. perhaps the ford recall needs to be extended to include the windstars as well. i contacted ford by email and was told that there were currently no safety recalls involving this van.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford windstar. the air conditioner, cruise control, and radio failed. the contact inspected the switch on the master cylinder and noticed that the switch for the cruise control was covered with fluid. the cruise control switch was replaced; however, the new switch also failed. he cut the wires to the switch in order to operate the vehicle. he then heard a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. the lifters were replaced, but the knocking sound continued. the upper intake was replaced as well. the purchase date was unknown. the failure mileage was 98,000 and current mileage was 119,000.

I was driving on a snow/ice covered road on my way home from work. the road was not plowed. i lost my brakes and started to slide sideways down a hill. i tried to steer the 2001 ford windstar to the side of the road. i was not going very fast. i was petrified. i finally came to a stop my bumper hit a drain pipe. all axles were bent. smoke was coming from the hood. the windstar was totaled. i received 18 stitches in my mouth. my top teeth bit through my bottom lip. i have a scar. the airbags did not deploy. i filed complaints at several different places and as all these other people are saying i never received an answer. i would like to be included in the class action lawsuit. *tr

I ran out of gas and the steering wheel locked up on me. i was stuck in the middle of the road. i didn't know what to do. the first time it happened, my husband was in iraq. since the steering wheel was locked, it wasn't like i could just put it in neutral and get my van out of the way. it was stuck in the middle of the road. it happened again. luckily, my husband was back and it was by church, so i was able to get help right away. i have never owned a vehicle where the steering wheel locks up. i am going to look in to an attorney about it because what if i was on the highway and my van broke down for whatever reason, the steering wheel would lock and i would get in a wreak. what if my kids where with me. that's just not right. i have bought ford vehicles all my life and i am telling you what, i don't know if i will ever buy another one after this. that is soooo unsafe. i have tried to call ford twice and they have given me the run around. so i don't know! i will have to talk to legal council i guess. who knows! i just love all the things us military have to deal with and now this! *la

While driving consumer smelled a burning aroma. the smell was coming from inside of the vehicle. consumer pulled over to investigate the smell, and noticed that the rear passenger door speaker was on fire. consumer was able to put out the fire.*ak

Engine light continued to come on. after diagnostic was complete, it was determined to replace the egr valve & sensor. van has not been able to pass inspection in nc due to "not ready" rejection since the above mentioned repairs were made. the minivan has been at the ford motor dealership for approximately 3 weeks, and they have been unable to find the cause of the problem. an engineer from the ford detroit office was sent to raleigh, nc to investigate the problem, and cause still undertermined. sensors have been replaced as well as main computer chip. wires leading to sensors have been checked. dealership is at a loss, and cause of problem still unknown. meanwhile, we have a vehicle unable to pass nc inspeciton.

noticed smoke coming from the hood of vehicle. shortly after, the vehicle was in flames. *mr investigative report revealed that the cause of the fire was from the failure of the air conditioner lines which had been replaced prior to the fire. *tt

Consumer states check engine light is on. dealer replace fuel cap and evaporative purge valve, however problem still exist and now the vehicle is stalling causing vehicle to have no braking and power steering power. squeaking noise when setting still. belt tensioner replaced. *tt

On july 9, 2001, while changing a flat tire, the jack failed. it crumpled just near the apogee. i put the jack exactly where instructed. the towing service told me they had seen other jacks fail in similar ways. when i contacted the dealer, i was made to feel that i had done something wrong and there was reluctance to replace my jack. only when i continued to complain did they put in a warranty request.*ak
