Abs lights showed up on display cluster. 10 amp fuse on 2nd row #2 keeps blowing. ac stopped working, odometer went to all dashes, speedometer stopped working, electronic fuel display went to "fuel error". after unplugging abs to keep 10 amp fuse from blowing and to get the ac to work, braking system is leaking. *tr
Yellow abs light is illuminated intermittently and code c1185 (abs power relay output circuit failure) is present. *tr
Abs indicator comes on and off during driving. all wheel sensors test good. *tr
Abs light comes on and off had the code read at the auto parts store and it shows code c1185. *tr
I purchased a 2000 ford windstar. n 4/6/13, i was going 20 mph and the brakes were failing, i pulled into lentz. they repaired everything i could think of. after having my brakes completely repaired the brakes failed again. bring it back to lentz, with thousands of apologies and promises to fix it right. they repaired even more of the brake system.. the brakes abs system light still comes on, brakes seem to not work ok. so i bring to ford to have the recalls checked. they said that my master cylinder was leaking again and explained to me that this was a recall from before, and that they already installed a jumper and fuse for it so it wont fail or leak. but apparently it's still leaking and faulting out. so i asked them to fix it, they would not. i called corporate, and they will not budge. ford will not fix it because they claim it has already been worked on that particular recall and they said they don't "redo" recall work. so that being said they told me, i would be safe driving it like this. that it's no biggie and it wont hurt anything if brake fluid is leaking a little tiny bit by the switch. i am a single mom with kids. i bought it then i put over 2650 dollars so far into this stupid van. everything has gone wrong. from front axle to brakes, to no heat, electrical crazy stuff going on. of course they never find it or it apparently don't act up when they test it all. i'm terrified to drive this van. absolutely terrified of it. they even told me to "be careful, as it may catch on fire by the master cylinder" after telling me they don't redo old recalls!! i guess they put a bracket kit on the front subframe as part of recall but now it has more play in the wheel, i feel like i have to really steer to keep it in between the lines. they should fix my cylinder abs problem no matter what its their manufacturing defect.! tons of other safety problems with this van too. *tr
My speedometer is erractic, my abs light stays on. *tr
Abs light comes on and off while driving, cruise control does not work, speedometer and rmp guage goes crazy and stops working, leaking break fliud but can't seem to locate problem, interior lights flicker on and off, door locks will start going up and down while driving, rear passenger door does not close all the way and will sometime pop out but not completely open while driving, makes noise when turing left i had the rack and pinion changed but that did not solve the problem the noise just got worse. *tr
Abs light continues to come on intermittently. no immediate affect on braking until used hard. then rear brakes lock-up immediately. sliding doors will not open using overhead control. locks do not 'un-lock' when unlock is depressed. child protective door locks are off, and still the sliding doors will not operate from inside handle. the only automatic function that operate on the sliding doors is the 'close door' button on both sides. exterior handles do not open the door until the locks are manually/physically forced into the unlock position. dashboard lights and gauges go out-of-control randomly. ie: speedometer goes from 0 - overspeed, tachometer does the same as well as fuel and temp. *tr
So i fixed my defective instrument panel cluster and got a abs error code c1185 which is a bad abs relay. this relay is defective by being on the back side of a heat-sink plate that makes the board expand and contract allowing for some, if not all, of the solder joints break. as it stands now i have no idea if my van is safe to drive in its current state with the failure of that relay nor would i like to risk it. so my van sits drivable however, not used because of ford's lackluster performance on recalls. i will not pay for their mistakes anymore!!! it"s criminal!!!!! *tr
Abs light comes on indicating the abs braking system is not working. ford service says abs module needs to be replaced. the cost will be $1000 plus tax. *tr
The abs light comes on intermittently. when i turn the van off and turn it back on the light goes off. took van to dealer and they changed the brake pads front and back and turned the rotors. it continued. i finally took it to midas and they diagnosed it as a code c1185. no information was found for arecall but midas told us to see if there was a recall. *tr
C1185 diagnostic code, brake light will not go off. *tr
Red brake light stays on with the emergency brake off and the master cylinder full of brake fluid. *tr
Low brake fluid/ brake light came on. added a cap full of brake fluid as brake fluid was already full. 2days later light came back on and has been on ever since. cannot fit any more brake fluid. *tr
Problems with abs and brake system with engine code b1185. *tr
Abs light came on and is staying on. have seen many other complaints about this on this model and year. *tr
While we were driving to church this morning the abs light came on. on our way home from church, it came on again and so did the track off light. this is very frustrating considering this van only has 151,000! *tr
Antilock brake system (abs) light on dashboard. autozone free check reported code c1185 which according to other reports found on the internet relates to a bad solder joint on the abs computer board. *tr
Abs brakes failed to activate or operate as designed minor incident repair garage scanned vehicle dtc code 1185 and abs light on requires new abs ecu to repair abs system apparently a common occurrence, poorly solder joint in ecu. *tr
I have 2 problems with the brakes, problem 1 the master cylinder is leaking, causing the brake light to come on. problem 2 the abs light will come on when driving, it turns itself on and off. power train, the o/d light will flash when starting up, will turn off after a couple of minutes. *tr
Intermittent non operating abs. traced to abs ecm defective operation. frozen stainless steel screws into aluminum mount prevented removal of abs ecm for planned rebuild. my understanding is that there is a design and build defect typical to this unit that causes this problem. design defect -aluminum sheet heat sink which has a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than circuit board contributing to stress on improperly made solder joints on circuit board(build defect). *tr
on 8/12/12 as i was driving to new york i notice that every time there is a weight transfer i heard a clunking sound on the right front, after returning to new jersey i took the vehicle to sears auto to have it check out and was told and shown the defect was with the frame work which a recall was done for in 2011. the repair that the did in 2011 to the frame was in my opinion a death trap and i would suggest that you send a inspector to inspect the repair that ford said they did to these frame work, the strap that they put on the frame in my opinion is like putting a band aid on a third degree burn. i took the vehicle back to ford dealer in hackensack nj and they are giving me a hard time, my vehicle has been there from friday and today is saturday @ 1430 they still haven't look at it, maybe because of the color of my skin the really don't care, but i don't think safety should come down to the color of a person skin. thanks for your help. *tr
Abs light is on before changing brakes. after changing, it went off for a few days and is now back on. *tr
Abs light went on after getting wet due to rain on the pavement. apparently has shorted out something. from what i've read, this is a common problem. also, the dash light representing a turn signal burn out went on, but the turn signals are all functioning properly. *tr
Both the abs and brakes lights came on. just during this last month, the brakes have gone from being fine to almost not stopping the van. i am now scrambling to get them fixed. this came on very suddenly. *tr
The abs light came on and stays on. the mechanics think it is a bad solder joint in the ecu master relay. my abs brakes no longer work because of a bad solder joint that failed prematurely! *tr
I started my van and the abs warning light came on and has stayed on.
Abs warning light came on and remained on. was told by mechanic that it was a bad sensor on the left front brake and that the brakes operated correctly. *js
The (mostly un-serviceable) ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the abs light and dtc c1185. it also causes the enhanced abs braking system to become inoperable. if your abs light is on. *jb
In june of 2012 the abs light began to intermittently come on. repair shop replaced the relays and the light stayed off until october 2012. repair shop replaced the abs control unit. again this fixed the intermittent light, however, within a few months the light was coming on this time shortly after the car was started and staying on. it currently comes on when i start the car and stays on. i don't know if the abs breaking system is actually working. the breaks do work, but there are so many other issues with this vehicle that as long as i can stop the car i ignore the abs light. i now want to know if there is a recall for this. the car only has 97500 miles on it and has been garaged kept for the last 77500 miles. i got this as a company car at 19000 miles and purchased it from my company at 75000 miles. *tr
Abc light appeared - loss of brake peddle reset after turning off the engine in june of 2012 abs light can on - garage replaced abs module then in august abs light can on waiting on a second used abs module. *tr
Abs light continues to flash o and off. *tr
Abs light on, c1185. *tr
Braking distance suddenly increased. it is getting harder to stop the vehicle. *tr
On sunday 5/20/12, upon starting our 2000 ford windstar van, i noticed that the speedometer was not working and the abs (yellow) light was persistently on. (however the red brake light that had been shining on the dashboard persistently for many, many months, even after recall servicing, was now off.) driving for a few minutes, we realized that the air conditioning was not putting out cool air, only warm, and that the odometer was displaying only dashes. i should also mention, now that i have read up on these problems, which had seemed unrelated, but are apparently all traceable to a defective/leaking sdcd, that the cruise control on this vehicle has not worked for many months. *tr
Abs light continues to come on. *tr
Abs light on the dash. *tr
Abs brake light come on after a short time of driving and does note go off till engine is off, the windstar has had multiple recalls done to it like the rusty parts repair,im getting tired of this i even had then do something some work to my transmission, and i had some engine issues,i wishes they would buy it back or repair these crazy problems because its costing me more time and money. *tr
Abs light turn on and off while driving. most of the time when i started the car the abs light is off, but after driving may be 10 to 15 miles, the abs light will turn on and stay on until i turn off the engine. sometimes abs light is on after i start the car. when i took it to mechanic, the light is off, and he couldn't find the problem. it is so frustrated. *tr
As is typical with the windstar, the deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid. thus, causing problems with the abs and cruise. unfortunately, ford already honored the recall (09s09) on this vehicle. at that time the deactivation switch was not leaking so they installed a wire harness to avoid a fire when it did start leaking. (why put on a wire harness? because they knew the switch was going to fail. why not just replace the switch in the first place?) now ford will not re-open the recall to replace the switch and fix the other related problems. *tr
My abs light never goes off. we have replaced brakes etc and the abs light continues to stay on. *tr
The antilock braking system is intermittent, and sometimes the light will come on for no particular reason. this sometimes happens while driving. it will do this on and off, after shutting the car down, and restarting it, or sometimes during driving. *tr
My windstar began to shimmy like a skittish horse. when i took it to my local service station, they said the anti-lock brakes were reading as if the wheels were going different speeds and trying to compensate. eventually the shimmying sensation stopped and the anti-lock break light came on, and stayed on permanently. i am now afraid to drive my vehicle when it is raining or snowing. ford has indicated to me that they consider this to be my problem, not theirs. how is this not a recall issue? this is a problem which can endanger life and safety of myself and others; and it is a problem with ford's design. i don't even know how to fix this, let alone what it will cost. *tr
Abs light comes on sporadically. sometimes the abs light on the dash will illuminate immediately upon starting the car and sometimes it will light after driving 10-15 minutes. have replaced all four wheel speed sensors without correcting the problem. have noticed in several emergency braking situations, when the abs light is illuminated, the abs system is not functioning and the wheels will stop turning and the car will skid to a stop. *tr
Abs light on intermittently. researched internet and found this to be all-too common. this is usually caused by a bad solder joint(s) in the abs electronic control module located on the abs module (hydraulic). worst of all, ford gets to profit from our misery, since they can sell you a new part to fix their own inferior part. *tr
Abs light stays on! abs system does not operate! *tr
Abs light will not go out. *tr
Abs light comes on randomly and the abs does not work. *tr
The abs light has been going on and off for no reason. i took it to a mechanic and they said the only code that was affecting the light was the front right tire speed sensor which we replaced and the code went away. the cruise control dosent work and the light comes on and breaking is sometimes much more difficult when slick/wet and liable to cause an accident. the mechanic told me my vehicle was included in the ford recall from 6/2012 relatingn to abs light and diagnostic trouble code c1185
Abs light came on. since that time it comes on every once in a while and now daily after going for few miles. *tr
