No odometer or speedometer and abs light on. *tr
I have just discovered that my brakes have been leaking brake fluid. after sending it to my mechanic, he found the leak to be in the sensor right below the master cylinder. after searching for that part in the autopart stores and not finding it, i searched the internet and found out that many more people have this similar problem. this is a family van and the safety of my whole family is at risk. *tr
Abs light came on, followed immediately by the brakes not working properly, which caused an accident, which totaled the vehicle and injured my son who was driving. *tr
Abs light always lit on a 2000 ford windstar. and event occurred on sept. 19 when the brake system failed almost causing a crash at an intersection. nothing has been done to correct problem as of this is the first time it has happened. *tr
Braking distance suddenly increased. it seems that the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (sw-6351) is leaking and fluid is making its way down to the ecm control module (2c219) damaging it and making the abs system inoperative. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. the abs warning light was illuminated on instrument control panel. the vehicle was also leaking brake fluid. an independent made repairs referenced in recall campaign id number 09v399000( vehicle speed control ) at her expense. the failure mileage was 131,011 and the current was 132,000.
Around the middle of august, 2009, my 2000 ford windstar began having its abs warning lamp illuminate on my instrument cluster. this would occur seemingly for no apparent reason, though on september 13, 2009, i noticed that after engaging the cruise control and thereafter depressing the brake pedal, the lamp appeared. the lamp would usually, but not always, cease illuminating after i had stopped and restarted the engine. *tr
Abs brake light on and off intermittently on 2000 ford windstar sometimes remains on and will not go off no reason for this system seems to function fine. *tr
2000 ford windstar, abs module began failing at around 70000. the abs light on the dashboard comes on after the engine has warmed in winter or sooner during summer months. the module is poorly designed and not able to withstand heating and cooling. as a result, the module does not work as designed and does not provide the safety feature that anti lock brakes should. *tr
2000 ford windstar xl. abs and brake light come on intermittently. have had numerous brake lock-ups. upon researching, found this is a common problem caused by failure of the brake deactivate switch. *tr
2000 ford windstar ...abs light came on and odometer and speedo quit working. had to replace the brake pressure switch under the brake fluid reservoir. i understand this is a common failure with these vehicles. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. while driving 55 mph there was a burning smell in the brake area. the contact observed that the smoke was coming from the front driver and passenger tires; however, after removing the tires he noticed that the rotors were black and smoking. one week later while driving, the contact noticed that the speedometer and mileage gage failed to operate normally. a local mechanic determined that the abs was leaking brake fluid which caused the wire connected to the abs had a shortage. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. no repairs have been made. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage 110,000.
Abs fails as weather gets warmer. light comes on significantly increasing braking distance . *tr
Abs brake light (yellow) is illuminated intermittently and brake system no longer functions as designed. speed control deactivation switch recall (09s09) was performed. *tr
2000 ford windstar van yellow abs dashboard light illuminated due to defective abs brake electronic control module. parts cost approx. $400, labor approximately $200. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact smelled something burning. there were no flames present. he opened the hood and disconnected the master cylinder sensor to deactivate the brakes. the current and failure mileages were 150,000.
Faulty brake pressure differential deactivation switch under master cylinder on my 2000 ford windstar. i noticed a fluid leak recently and about the same time discovered my cruise control had stopped working. after doing an online search i came across the information regarding the problem. the leakage around the above part dripped onto the wiring below where it is mounted. i went ahead and purchased a new switch to avoid having a fire and to fix the malfunctioning cruise control. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. the contact stated that brake fluid was leaking out of the brake pressure differential activation switch. the failure caused a fuse to blow, which caused the speedometer to fail. the fuse has burned out and been replaced four times. the vehicle has not been inspected by a mechanic. the contact believes that a recall should be issued. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 111,000.
I have a faulty switch on my brake master cylinder- and my car was not part of the recall ford issued with the same problem to it's other vehicles. this problem is linked to the cruise control and causes the brake fluid to leak possibly causing a fire. *tr
Since the beginning of summer my abs light has been coming on intermittently and staying on when it is warm out. the driver's side front brake gets very hot and squeaks and grinds as well. now that it is turning cooler the light doesn't come on as often but still does. i have not replaced anything yet as i am waiting to see if a recall occurs. *tr
I have a windstar and this morning i lost the speedometer, ac, cruise control, and the abs light came on. i found this site linked from several others this morning when searching for solutions to the issue. most of the sites listed issues caused by a faulty cruise control deactivation switch. i took the van to mechanic and the cruise deactivation switch had been leaking fluid and caused a short and fuse #10 to blow. i have had the switched replaced and the engine cleaned from the brake fluid. the van is now functioning again but would like to report this issue and find out if this is going to be recalled by ford as it is a potential major safety issue with others failures having caused fires. *tr
The abs light came on first, then the odometer went to dashes, then the speedometer went to zero, the air conditioner stopped working and one of the times it went out my brake pedal went to the floor and the brakes were not working. *tr
Braking distance increased. abs lights on and all sensors checked and working fine. abs not functioning properly and all recall items performed by ford. newer brakes (1 year) and new tires 4 tires). *tr
I am the owner of a 2000 ford widstar. initially the problem was a matter of the abs light remaining on. later i began to have the smell of burning in the vehicle. additionally my rear brake lights would remain on unless i took precautions to manually pull up on the brake pedal. after paiding a local mechanic to address the issues preiously mentioned, i recieved a recall letter. i took the letter and replaced part to my area ford dealer who submited reimbursment invoices. several months later i returned to the dealer to inquire as to the status of the reimbusment and was issued a check which covered only a third of the cost of my repairs. *tr
Abs and/or traction control sensors are on 24/7. dealer states i have to pay for diagnostic. this causes a problem when applying the brake in snow and rain. brake system does not function properly. i have consequently lost control of the vehicle and have had to swerve to avoid accidents. *tr
Abs light lit check engine light on. *tr
I have an abs light that intermittently comes on in my 2000 ford windstar van. when my van was under warranty i tried to get my dealer to check for the codes on the computer but the light wasn't on at the time and they said they would not be able to find the problem. with the light on dec. 8 i was coming home from logan wv in a snow storm and the abs failed to stop me on the rte. 73 bridge in logan the front tires locked up and i slid narrowly avoiding a collision. *tr
Abs system goes off and on, intermittently with no warning. *tr
We had our brake pressure differential deactivation switch leaking fluid which has caused other parts on our vehicle to have to be replaced numerous times. i have found out by researching that this part has been involved in several vehicle fires. and i just want to report that i also have the bad or defective part on my vehicle and it scares me to think that my van could have caught on fire at any time.. .the part was recalled on several other ford vehicles but not on mine.. i own a 2000 ford windstar lx sport. *tr
Abs warning light comes on and off intermittently. after the van is driven and warmed up i lose braking. i purchased the van used in oct 2008, and the problem has been happening the whole time. a mechanic said it was the control module and that it happens quite frequently on this model 2000 ford windstar. *tr
Ford windstar 2000 abs ecm failure. abs light comes on. any recall notice? *tr
The brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time develops a leak. this causes a short and a fuse trip, fuse #10 if the engine is on. this leak also causes brake fluid to wick down two wires to the abs brake module (2c219). the fluid accumulates on the (always on) power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. the fluid attracts moisture, road salt and leads to a fire when the fluid and moisture act as conductor between the hot leads and ground. this switch will cause cruise control problems, speedometer, odometer and abs brake system problems. *tr
2000 ford windstar,,failure of brake pressure switch, leaking brake fluid onto wiring harness, danger of fire.*tr
Back in 2008 i was involved in a fender bender (about $6,000 in damages) when my abs failed causing me to slide into another car. at first i thought it was minor issue, but have since been told it's a major issue with many owners. i've found that the recall (09s09) does not address all the underlying issues and the ford dealer will not fix all of the issues. additionally i was told by my local ford dealer that there were no open items on my van for abs. when i inquired what that meant, they said that there was nothing on recall for abs on my vehicle. i had never had anything done to the abs, so it was not because it was already fixed. a week ago, i was almost involved in an accident because of the failure of the abs system; i was only going 40 mph. i constantly have my brakes checked because i have to press them hard to work. the rear brakes are almost new, and the front (pads and rotors) are new so the brakes should work better than they do. since there are major reports of problems, this needs to be addressed by ford. *tr
I am the owner of a 2000 ford windstar. my problem is typical of what has likely already been reported by many other owners. the brake light and abs light were indicators that the wiring in my car had deteriorated due to a leak in the hose. i know this is an existing problem already reported by many windstar owners. *tr
I previously reported in nhtsa odi number 10242689 a failure of the speed control deactivation switch causing a dangerous leak of brake fluid onto the wires below. this has been recalled in several other models of ford vehicles with the same year range (but not the windstar) and was brought to my attention by the abs light coming on within seconds of driving. as a follow up, i had the switch replaced by the dealer but was then informed that the leaking fluid had also damaged the abs control module. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. the contact was informed by his children that his vehicle was on fire. he extinguished the fire and noticed that the master cylinder on the firewall was melted. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. there were no injuries and no prior warnings. the current and failure mileages were 169,000.
Abs light came on intermittently, took it in for repair at a local shop and was told it was just a malfunctioning sensor, but that abs was still functioning. recently abs light began coming on again on a daily basis. this time i took it to the dealer and was informed brake fluid was leaking at the speed control deactivation switch at the master cylinder. i was informed that it was very dangerous and could result in a fire and that my abs system would not function properly in an emergency braking situation. the dealer mentioned there was a recall to replace this switch and clean the wires for several ford vehicles in my year range, but not the windstar. a quick search found volumes of other windstar owner complaints describing this very defect. *tr
Leaking brake fluid from switch under master cylinder, leak rate is increasing with time. similar problems found on internet. *tr
Abs light comes on, leaking brake fluid, cruise control does not come on. *tr
Brake pressure differential deactivation switch located under master cylinder has leak that causes shorts and fuse #10 continually goes out. fire hazard, speedometer doesn't work, a/c gone out, etc. this problem is happening w/ these vans all over the place - hundreds of internet posts confirm. *tr
Researching problems with my van i ran a search to see if there are any recalls or technical service bulletins for my current problem: a leaking rack and pinion. while searching i ran across a site (http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/) regarding the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264). i experienced the symptoms (without the fire) of the switch leaking and now have problems with the abs light staying on and the dealer i took the van to told me the abs module needs replacement. the electrical connector to the brake switch showed signs of heat like it shorted out. i asked the service rep at the time if there were any tsb's or recalls and i was told no. i replaced the switch and have had no other problems but i need to replace the abs module. the switch was weeping fluid but failed unexpectedly and the brake master cylinder was nearly pumped out of fluid. thinking about it had the master cylinder ran out of fluid and the abs module rendered inactive from the dripping brake fluid the consequences could have been fire. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. while pulling into the driveway, the computer on the vehicle displayed "fuel error". the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the brake pressure differential deactivation switch had shorted out. the failure caused the brake fluid to leak onto the wires, which caused the wires to short out. if the repairs are not performed, it could cause the speedometer, odometer, and brake lights to not work. in addition, a fire could possibly occur because the cruise control is not working, as well as the power seating. the current and failure mileages were 82,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost complete power, with the exception of the headlights, air conditioner, and radio. the vehicle was towed and has not been inspected by a mechanic. prior to being towed, the abs light has been illuminated for some time. the transmission was replaced in october of 2007. the current and failure mileages were 110,279.
Abs & traction control dash lights on continuously. speedometer not accurate & no cruise control operation. no abs brakes? *tr
I own a 2000 ford windstar and the abs brake light and the brake light is on. recently the fuse blew that controlled the odometer, speedometer, heating systems. i searched online and found that there is a defect in the brake system that is causing these issues. *tr
