Intermittent failure of abs system. seems to be temperature related. i had codes read and was told a new abs ecm module would fix it. *tr
My 2000 ford windstar has bee having problems with the abs. over the past few weeks the brakes have occasionally made a high pitched noise that sounds like metal grinding together. i also happened to be driving down the road the other day and the brakes decided to activate themselves without me pressing them. the abs light also came on the dash. i was unable to move forward because this made me come to a complete stop. i then turned off the vehicle and turned it back on. the light then went out and i was able to continue on my way. this has happened several times since then. ford needs to issue a recall on the abs. *tr
My 2000 ford windstar was recalled and i saw the abs light on after the maintenance. they have not fixed the fire hazard problem. i'm worried about my car. is a manufacturer defect on wiring. *tr
2000 ford windstar abs and trac off lights on. *tr
I own a 2000 ford windstar and my abs module has gone bad. the abs yellow warning light comes on intermittently. the part alone is $800.00. i've read on the internet this is a common issue on the windstar due to the construction of the part. please consider asking ford to recall the part. *tr
Abs failure, braking distance reduced. traction contro off, effects safety of driving in slippery conditions
I own a 200 ford windstar and recently took it to a ford dealer to have the speed control module replaced due to recall. i did so after having problems with my brake system (not having any brake). i originally brought it to a regular garage and they could not figure out why i had no brake because my brakes were good so they told me to get to ford and have recall situation taken care of. after doing so i still have hardly any brake and the abs light still comes on. every week i seem to be putting in brake fluid because the red brake light comes on. on a few occasions i have had problems getting out of park and have no idea why. i am due to have an inspection and don't know what im going to do if it does not pass due to not having much of a brake. is there some other problem we should be looking at involving the abs system? *tr
The abs indicator light fluctuates on and off during driving my 2000 ford windstar. *tr
Abs light is on continually and the abs system is not working. *tr
2000 ford windstar abs light based on abs power relay failure, in association with previous recall. that recall was repaired by ford (recall 09s09 was completed by ford), but they did not address the abs light. abs light with power relay (ecm) persists. *tr
1. smoke was coming out from under the hood on my 2000 ford windstar. smelled like an electrical fire. then the speedometer didn't work correctly and abs,and brake lights were on. 2. checked fuse box found fuse blown, replaced and blew again. 3. found brake fluid was leaking out of the brake deactivation switch, sprayed connection with brake fluid, replaced switch, but left unhooked do to it keeps blowing fuse. brake deactivation switch. *tr
Abs light came on, followed immediately by the brakes not working properly, which caused an accident, which totaled the vehicle and injured my son who was driving. *tr
Abs electronic control module (ecm) defective on 2000 ford windstar lx 3.8l engine. apparently a common (design flaw) problem. 1) abs warning light comes on when the temperature warms up. this means that the abs is disengaged. 2) always happens when temperature warms up. 3) repaired by replacing ecm with a new part: items ordered: item: control price: $296.38 core: $100.00 tax: $0.00 qty: 1 total: $396.38 ----------------------------- items total: $396.38 shipping: $29.64 handling fee: $0.00 order total: $426.02 we recommend that you print a copy of this email for your records. to view the status of your order, go to: http://www.tituswillfordparts.com , and click on order status.tems ordered: item: control price: $296.38 core: $100.00 tax: $0.00 qty: 1 total: $396.38 ----------------------------- items total: $396.38 shipping: $29.64 handling fee: $0.00 order total: $426.02 we recommend that you print a copy of this email for your records. to view the status of your order, go to: http://www.tituswillfordparts.com , and click on order status. *tr
My 2000 ford windstar lost it's brakes for a moment from the resulting leak at the deactivation switch attached to the master cylinder. after consulting my local mechanic. we discovered brake fluid all over the engine compartment. this would have probably resulted in a fire if brakes had not failed for a moment. i taken the correct action and had the switch replaced but i'm not confident in this vehicle any longer i've since looked on the internet and found this is a large safety issue which is still under investigation. *tr
2000 ford windstar -- abs light and brake light continuously on -- cruise control will not work -- master cylinder leaking -- speedometer and odometer have failed. *tr
There is an existing recall (ford) on many cars and trucks - involving the speed control deactivation system. well, mine quit working a year ago. since then - i've had to put brakes on the vehicle (more than once). i now have to fill the brake fluid reservoir with fluid every 2 - 3 days. if i don't, the brakes quit working. the pedal goes all the way to the floor. this brake system (and loss of fluid symptoms) are the same ones as the voluntary recall (leaking brake fluid - could cause a fire). i called ford and they will not honor a free fix, because the vehicle (a 2000 windstar) does not qualify (not sure of the reason). they also said that there is nothing they can do to help me. i have to pay for the repair (bad switch / leaking fluid) myself. my question to you is: why is the windstar line of vehicles not part of the recall? ford could not answer that for me. *tr
Yellow abs light comes on also hear squeal sounds before complete stop on brake, over drive and engine light start to blink when driving off or often comes on when slowing down. *tr
I have a 2000 ford windstar which had an electrical fire due to a faulty brake pressure deactivation switch. i turned the key on and a huge ball of white smoke came out all over the vehicle. myself ,my wife and my children were in the car inhaling these toxic fumes. i hope inhaling these fumes don't cause any future health risks. thank god my van did not explode and we were able to exit out safely. ford should really take a look at this problem. i will never purchase another ford vehicle. *tr
Part on bottom of brake reservoir leaks causes fuse to trip oil gets on electrical wires smokes fire hazard. *tr
My abs lite in my 2000 ford windstar will not go out. but the brakes are great. *tr
Odometer, speedometer dead, abs light is on, no a/c, rear blower also dead on windstar 2000. *tr
The abs light comes on my 2000 ford windstar. i have had it checked as it was acting intermittently. i was informed that every sensor and control module for the abs system failed according to the code. the mechanic said that this was not really possible however he believed it to be the control module. i had it checked again this year as the light comes on every time now and it is the control module on the drivers side under the van. i have driven vehicles for years without abs so it doesn't bother me to not have it. the cost to fix it is not worth it as the instrument cluster has also started to fail. the abs light acts up more during the warm weather/summer. *tr
2000 ford windstar with abs, odometer, cruise control, and air conditioner failure. replaced fuse which seemed to correct problem. failure occurred again one week later. concerned about possible fire hazard. *tr
My fuses keep popping under the dash after finding brake fluid leaking on some wiring i googled some things finding out this is a big problem and i caught mine before a serious fire. *tr
Ford windstar abs brake, cruise control, speedometer/odometer electrical problem: failure of brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264). i understand this has been on ongoing complaint, reported numerous times to the nhtsa. *tr
Cruise control stopped working, heat went out, odometer stopped working, speedometer stopped working, rear blowers stopped working, rear wiper stopped working, brake light came on. we replaced the brake fluid and changed the pads, this seemed to fix the problem momentarily but then the brakes stopped working again and the gas hand began to move slowly also. the brakes squeal really bad when stopping and turning and they have to be pressed to the floor in order to make the van stop. *tr
I have a 2000 ford windstar. the abs light on the dash intermittently comes on and stays on until i shut off the ignition. this has been a problem for about a year. i finally had a mechanic hook up a diagnostic scanner and read the error code, which is c1185 (problem with the electronic control module). doing an internet search i find this is a very common issue for the 1999-2003 windstars. looks like ford needs to do a recall of this component. *tr
2000 ford windstar brake fluid leaked and melted the wires we have to replace wires and the part that was leaking something to with the cruise control. *tr
The abs ecm module has been damage from leaking brake fluid. there is no abs working and the abs light is on. it appears to be the result of a brake fluid leak and as extreme potential to catch fire. i know others have reported this problem....it must be corrected (recalled) for obvious safety reasons. *tr
My abs brake light came on, but all of my sensor lights have been malfunctioning. they couldn't find anything wrong; just said it was a bad sensor. then the cruise control quit working. last week my brakes locked up on me and i almost hit a school bus. i took the van in and the mechanic said there was a leak in the break line caused by the electrical system that caused everything to fail that had been recalled by ford. we contacted ford and they said there was no recall they said they only recalled this part on f150s. this is a major problem the mechanic said. we had two fuses to blow the horn won't work; the electrical system is going haywire. the thing that concerns me the most is the brake system, but they say it is all related. we are having it repaired now. when i locked up my brakes i balled two brand new tires so now i have to buy two new tires that are less than 4 months old, because ford refuses to fix this problem. *tr
Brake fluid leakage, had to replace o2 sensor on machine. this causes a brake pad failure. there has been no accidents, but causes the brakes to squeal. i have replaced the brake fluid reservoir 2 times. *tr
While driving the abs and brake light came on, the odometer displayed only dashes. after doing a google search, was able to identify the problem as a leaking brake pressure deactivation switch xw7z 9f924 ba. switch was replaced along with #10 fuse and all problems resolved. internet research provide the link to this site for reporting. *tr
Abs light comes on after running and cruise control quit working in my 2000 ford windstar. the switch is leaking break fluid in the engine compartment. *tr
Noticed cruise control does not work in july 08, not sure for how long as i do not use this feature. started to lose brake fluid about a year ago, added brake fluid on 9/14/08. 9/16/08 abs light came on & stayed on. odometer & speedometer stopped working. decided to check recalls and complaints, was amazed at the number of similar problems, but yet no recall. mileage was 81,000+. no abs brakes and not knowing your speed are safety issues. i had a 95 ford windstar which ford bought back from me due to equipment failures at 45,000 miles but i had to buy another windstar. ford should provide a recall and fix these problems. i planned to drive this car for several more years, now what am i going to do. this car requires new brakes almost every year. there is definitely engineering problems that ford should be responsible for fixing. i had a huge repair bill at the ford dealer about 4 years ago, i think it was the rear axle. *tr
Brake pressure switch burnt out while drive only three miles from home. brake fluid began to leak out and created smoke and fumes. took van to repair shop who replaced the switch and informed me of the defect on other ford makes, but said that currently the 2000 windstar was not on the list. auto shop has old part, but may have thrown it out by now. *tr
The brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) leaks. *tr
Abs light is on 5 minutes after you start the engine. *tr
Abs light comes on in the afternoon after a few minutes of driving. it resets itself when the car is parked and then restarted. this has been going on for over a year, but only happens during the summer months and in hot weather. i am in the process of checking the wiring for a loose connection. the dealership said they could use a code reader on the car, but would cost $$$$ to obtain the reading. auto zone has an abs code reader for sale, but costs over $300.00. *tr
Brakes squeaking then abs light on then speedometer went out trax control off and mileage meter off took it to ford dealer to fix the problem will keep parts. *tr
Abs light comes on intermittently. *tr
I own a 2000 ford windstar. the abs light has been on since i bought the van, witch was in feb of 08. today june2 of 08 the speedometer went out and so did odometer. a fuse was blown, i looked for answers on the web and ran across this web page http://www.2carpros.com/forum/1-vt49767.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 this listed everything that had been wrong with my van since i bought it. it is also know to cause fires from having faulty brake deactivation switch. please look into this ford has recalled lots of the cars and trucks for this switch because it causes fires. *tr
Abs light turns on. odometer & speedometer died. ac not cold. electronic [like auto sliding door, cruise control] work intermittently. this "break-down" is observed initially (fall 2007) with cruise control stops working. since it's already out of warranty and we're a bit tight with our budget, we decided not to fix it. every now and then, the sliding door stops working, but it seems to comeback again on its own, so we're living through these malfunctions. on may 19, 2008, the abs light is on, speedometer and odometer died and ac not cold; thinking some of these are urgent and important we brought it to firestones which returned the car and advised us to take it to the dealer. later i learn that this is a common problem in ford windstar 2000 and thus should have been a recall. *tr
I purchased this vehicle about 2 years ago and began having problems right away. the abs light comes on and goes off quite often. at about 125,000 miles i had problems with the brakes and could not drive the car. my o/d light also began to flash and my speedometer jumped up and down while i was driving. i took it to a shop and had to have a speed sensor replaced. a day later the problem happened again and i had to have the sensor replaced again. the abs light began to come on again a few days later. now i have a light on the panel (the master lighting switch). when i turn off the headlights and parking lights, the parking lights come back on. i used to be able to turn them off and sometimes they would stay off, but now i have to disconnect the battery every time i park and reconnect it to drive the car. also, one by one, all of the power locks are going out. the only one that works correctly is the one for the rear door (trunk). the rear windows can open, but sometimes it takes days of trying before i can get them to close again. *tr
Abs light is on, # 10 fuse keeps blowing, cruise control, speedometer, and odometer do not work. new fuse in works fine then the fuse blows again. *tr
Abs lights going off and on when driving. ford 2000 windstar. *tr
Abs light is on and the abs system is not working properly. *tr
Abs light comes on is warmer weather due to ecm module expanding along with heat sink in warmer weather causing loss of anti-lock braking. *tr
Vehicle was purchased used in april of 2006. abs system was functioning fine from that time until march 2007. the abs system fails when ambient temperature is above 35 degrees f. there is no abs light and system functions correctly when temp is below 35. abs light comes on immediately at start up in summer time (temps around 80 degrees) and malfunctions. abs time to failure correlates to ambient temperature in that it takes longer to malfunction closer to 35 degrees, and short time to malfunction at greater temperatures. i have taken no corrective action at this time as i am waiting for ford to do a recall. system continues to malfunction daily. the website i found that encouraged filing this complaint says that windstars from model year 1999 through 2003 are experiencing this same widespread defect. (heat related due to expansion of an aluminum heat sink in the abs ecm. *tr
I have a problem where my abs light comes on at intermittent intervals (almost daily now). i have had a lot of work done on my brakes. the light has come on like this for more than 2 years. *tr
