We have classified the 507 complaints from 2005 Ford Taurus about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a sudden loss of engine power and the electronic throttle control warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 120,000. the vin was not available.
Was stopped in left turn lane. accelerated up driveway to enter parking lot and throttle stuck, rode brake into parking lot. tach was at approx. 2500 rpm, switched feet on brake pedal and tapped the accelerator twice and the idle went down below 1000 rpms and shut off engine. after restarting engine idle was normal. when i returned home i checked under hood and found cruise control cable clip was not on throttle body pin. i reattached the clip to the pin. tried cruise control and it did not work. checked cruise control cable and the clip was off again and laying next to the throttle body pin. i left the cruise cable disconnected but the acceleration problem has happened four (4) more times. once to me and three (3) times to my daughter. i believe the cruise clip gets stuck under the throttle body pin and when the accelerator is tapped it comes loose and idle returns to normal. i have owned multiple cars with cruise control and never had a similar problem, even with over 100,000 miles on them. *js
The car was accelerating on its own. so we had a mechanic fix it he replaced the throttle cable. approximately 4 months later it started doing it again. the car accelerated and my daughter hit a car in front of her. gorno fords fixed the car they replaced the throttle cable agene. that was around may 3, 2015 that they fixed the car. around june 12, the car accelerated and i could not stop the car and i hit the care in front of me. i called gorno ford but they said that they could not do any thing to help me. even though the fixed the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while she drove at 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. the contact had to depress the brake pedal with force and shut the engine down to bring the vehicle to a stop. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 64,000. updated 06/10/14 ma
While driving on the highway at 60 mph without the cruise control on, the car started to accelerate on its own to up to 75 mph. i pumped the brakes to reduce the speed, but the car continued to accelerate. i tried lifting the gas pedal with my foot to see if it was stuck; it was not. i turned the cruise control on and off, but cruise was not functioning. i continued to drive on the highway (about 10 miles) to my destination, and continued to pump the brakes while driving to prevent the car from going at a dangerous speed. when i got off the highway, i had trouble braking. the car lurched forward a bunch when i tried stopping completely. while braking, the car shook and the rpms shot up to about 3500. i did get the car to stop at a red light, but only after pushing pretty hard on the brakes. when the light turned green, i lifted my foot off the brake and the car accelerated on its own. the rpms continued to remain around 3500. since i was in the city, i continuously hit the brakes so i wouldn't go over 40, but each time i did this, the front of the car shook vigorously. it was terrifying. the car was making a lot of noise, too. by the time i got to my destination and put my car in park, it was really loud and the rpms remained above 3000. i turned off the car and let it sit for about 90 minutes. later, i turned it on again and the rpms shot to 2500, dropped to about 2000, and then jumped to 3500. i immediately turned it off. i had it towed to the dealer. the mechanic stated that the cruise control cable had fallen apart/failed, which caused the throttle to continuously accelerate. i also had to get my front brakes completely redone, because my constant breaking to prevent the car from speeding out of control warped the rotor (which made the car shake when i braked). this was a very dangerous and frightening situation. *tr
This happened a few times in the past month especially at high speed. when i drove on high way, i found i do not need to hold gas pedal to keep at high speed (say 65). if i brake a little and release brake, the speed will automatically go up itself. there were also a few cases that it was very hard for me to brake to stop the car. it seemed the brake is lost at that time. *tr
I was driving and coming up to a 4-way stop at an intersection. there was a truck stopped at the sign at the intersection in front of me. i applied the brakes and was nearly stopped when the engine of my car began revving on its own. i pressed harder on the brakes but felt the car edging forward still and thought for a moment i had lost my brakes. since my foot was on the brake pedal i put the car in park, stopping it from running into the truck in front of me. the engine revved for a few more seconds and then the needle dropped on the rpm dial back to normal. i put the car in drive and completed my trip home without further incident. this is the second time this has happened. the first time was nearly a month ago but i thought it was a fluke, that perhaps i had some how stepped on the gas pedal as well as the brake. i do not believe that is the case now. *tr
The car will accelerate by itself from the gas pedal sticking-- total transmission replacement now there is difficulty steering left or right, which forces the vehicle into extremely wide turns or use of excessive force to get wheel moving. -the car will rev/chug excessively while idling at a light, forcing me to turn it off several times for fear of something happening. --car has been checked several times by auto shops and they always claim the car is fine yet i have all these difficulties with it. *tr
The car takes off without pressing on the gas. rpm goes up and car continues to accelerate despite pressing on the brakes. took car to a mechanic and had the idle valve replaced. 2 weeks later the problem continued to persist and mechanic told me the cruise control was detached but suspects it is a problem with the model of car and needed to be recalled. the speeding of the car occurs sporadically, so driving on the road i am not able to predict when it will happen. this is a malfunction that needs to be addressed by ford for the sake of safety. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle increased acceleration to 90 mph independently. the emergency brake and brake pedal were both engaged repeatedly with force. in addition, the gear lever was shifted into neutral. the vehicle decelerated to 5 mph and then the gear lever was shifted into the park position. the vehicle came to a complete stop and was towed to the residence. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 159,810.
I was driving on highway with my baby and suddenly found that even though i fully released the gas pad the engine still kept running at ~3000 rpm. i had to put brake to slow the speed which would otherwise accelerate my car out of my control. i finally stopped by switching to neutral and hard brake. when i restarted the car the problem was still there and the engine made a big noise at parking gear. the problem disappeared after i disconnected the battery. during the whole incident, i did not see any warning signs (e.g. check engine) on. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. the contact mentioned that when the vehicle was started it would rev. on one occasion, the vehicle was turned on and jerked forward, crashing into a pedestrian that was standing in front of the vehicle. the contact did not indicate if the pedestrian was injured. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
I was going down the hwy. at 55 and my car started accelerating suddenly. i slowed down a little bit and tapped the brakes again and it kept accelerating. i slowed way down to 40mph and took my foot off the gas and it accelerated up to over 60 mph on its own. i kept my foot on the gas and pulled off the highway at the next exit. when i got to the bottom of the exit i had to stop. my car kept accelerating and would not drop below 2rpm despite the fact i had my foot on the brake. it kept lurching forward slowly and the brakes weren't holding (and i have fairly new brakes). i had to turn the car off. when the light turned green i started again and the car accelerated again up to 30 mph on its own without me hitting the gas. i kept my foot on the break and coasted into a parking lot and turned the car off. i turned the car on again and it shot up to 4rpm and did not drop so i turned the car off and had a shop come pick it up. they said that the cruise control cable became disconnected and caught on the throttle causing the car to keep accelerating. i've never even used the cruise control on the vehicle at all and i have had possession of it since around 60,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated while driving 40 mph, the vehicle independently increased the speed to 65 mph. this failure occurred four times within a day. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed there was a faulty cruise control cable. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
When i tried to set the cruise control it would not set or hold the speed. later that day, when driving at approximately 40 mph, the car decided it was going to speed up. i put my foot on the brake and when i took it off, the car sped up again. i again put my foot on the brake and put the car in neutral as i pulled to the side of the road. when i got the car stop the engine rpms were up around 4rpms, at this point i shut the car off. i took the car to a ford dealership and they ended up replacing the cruise control cable which was broken. it cost me $140.43 this was on 2-21-13 (143,350 miles). about 3 days ago 2-6-14 (159,000miles), the car again did this same thing. once again i will be taking it into the ford dealership to have this issue fixed. i am hoping that i will not be charged this time. this is very dangerous and scary when it happens. i am glad i was driving the car and not my 16 year who is just learning to drive. *tr
The cruise control was activated but continued to be engaged and my car was accelerating after i applied the brake preparing to stop. my car continued to travel and i had to pull off the road while i was tapping on the gas pedal hoping to stop this alarming development. the car eventually stopped accelerating and i continue driving to my destination but i experienced the same problem at least twice on my way and i decided to stop in a business parking lot and inspect the cruise control cable. i discovered that it was partially disconnected from its link to the throttle body and was keeping the throttle plate from closing. i disconnected the cruise control cable and i have not had unintended acceleration since then. i went to the local ford dealership to inquire about this safety-compromising malfunction and i was told that my cruise control cable needs replacement. i failed to ask if the cable is actually the culprit because it has somehow failed or if the design of its linkage to the throttle body is the cause for the partial disconnection of the cable from the linkage in which case this could happen again even after the cable is replaced. *tr
My accelerator pedal starting sticking and has continued to do so for over a week, now. my cruise control also stopped working at the same time. if i tap the accelerator pedal, it will usually return to normal. the cruise control will work intermittently, but is inoperative more than it is operative. i can live without the cruise control, but the sticking accelerator pedal is dangerous. also, sometimes when i set the cruise control, i can feel the accelerator pedal accept the speed, but then it will almost immediately disconnect and the accelerator pedal will spring back to its normal position. i've read that other ford tauruses have had what appears to be the same exact problem. ford really should issue a safety recall to fix this issue. *tr
We had our car serviced at our local ford place on 1-22-2014 because of a problem we were having about acceleration problems. there we found out about the calibration recall. they proptly addressed the recall(we have not ever received the notification). about 2 hrs. later i was going to get gas. i pulled into the station and it accelerated on me. i thought i would go through the pumps! i was pressing my brakes as hard as i could and put it in neutral fast(which is not good for the transmission) and finally got it unstuck or whatever it does. it was over 3 on the tachometer! it scared me so bad. i have filed a complaint before, the conf. # is 10551674. i just do not want to be the example of when ford does something about after my funeral! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the engine rpms increased to 3000. the contact had to put the vehicle into park for the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not diagnose or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the vin was not available. the approximately failure mileage was 100,000. *tr
On 1/18/2014: i was traveling approximately 45 mph, when all the sudden my 2005 ford taurus suddenly started accelerating. i did not have my foot on the gas pedal. when i started to used the brakes it felt like the car was pushing against the brakes. the brakes held and i was able to stop the car. i put the car into park and when i did this the rpm's went to 60000. i quickly turned off the car because i was afraid that i would blow the motor, i let the car sit there for a few minutes. i re-started the motor and the motor was reeving at a high rate and when i put the car in drive it slammed into drive and the car took off. i feel that something is terribly wrong. there are no "check engine" lights on. it feels like the cruise control is engaged, but i continuously pushed the "off" button on cruise control and no light displayed that the cruise control was engaged. i feel this is a defect in the making of this automobile and i'm very concerned that i could have been the cause of a terrible accident. i am forced not to use my car until i can get a mechanic to look it over a diagnosis the situation. i had my 93 year old grandmother traveling with me on this day and i am fortunate that i was not in a serious accident. i am reporting this situation because, i wonder if other 2005 ford taurus have had the same issues & reported & maybe have even not been as luck as i, and have been in serious accidence due to this issue that should be re-called by ford. thank you. *tr
After getting off of the highway, while driving through a 30 mph zone, car started to accelerate without stepping on the accelerator. i pulled over and put it in neutral and it was racing. i shut it off and waited and started up and it was still racing, i stepped on the accelerator quickly on and off and it went back to normal. i drove down the street and it did it again and again i put it in neutral and kicked it down with the accelerator and it hasn't happened since. it seems very intermittent as the last time it happened was 2 years ago. it is very difficult to diagnose because of this. *tr
The vehicle accelerator got stuck. the vehicle accelerated automatically and continued to accelerate even after you take your foot off of the accelerator. this severely effected the control of the vehicle. it was difficult to stop the vehicle even when applying the brakes. even when placed in neutral and foot off of the accelerator, the engine continued to rev up. this was not an issue with the floor mat pressing the gas pedal. *tr
The gas pedal seems to be stuck and the car starts accelerating. my wife became panicked and was about to crash into another car. the problem can be solved by putting the gearshift into neutral and press the gas pedal to the bottom, then it returns to the normal. the problem is very serious and can lead to accidents in hectic situations. *tr
My problem is my accelerator has been sticking making it difficult to control speed in traffic. i am concerned the problem will gradually get worse. i contacted ford motor corp about the possibility of a recall or warranty with this issue. with a small amount of research it seems there is well known issues with this make and model for accelerator problems. see my correspondence with ford below: "hi ------, my name is [xxx] and i'm from ford's customer relationship center (crc). i received your email regarding your 2005 ford taurus se. i'm sorry to hear about the issues with the seatbelt and accelerator sticking. i completely understand your concern for the safety of yourself and your family. after reviewing my resources, there are no warranties or programs in effect that would provide coverage for your current concern. we recommend that you keep your receipts in case ford initiates a recall in the future based on customer feedback... ------------------- original message ------------------- ...i have couple of safety concerns. i love my 2005 ford taurus and i want to continue to own it. last year i had a seatbelt issue where intermittently the buckle releases while car is in motion. i called dealership to ask if ford will take care of this for safety reasons and was promptly told no. recently i have an accelerator that is sticking. the pedal returns to position but the rpm's remain elevated. i have not notified the dealership yet about this issue. i wanted to contact ford corp first so i could have documentation on this recent safety concern for i have not had much luck in the past contacting the dealership...." information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
On multiple occasions the vehicle accelerated without warning. the accelerator seems to stick resulting in uncontrollable fuel pedal response. i was nearly involved in three crashes one if which was at a congested intersection where i had to shift the vehicle into neutral and apply the brakes as the vehicle's engine revved uncontrollably. a second instance occurred on a local street where the vehicle again accelerated as pedestrians were within the road. i had to take evasive actions as to not strike the pedestrians. *tr
Sudden acceleration incident, the gas pedal was not stuck however the throttle flange was jammed due to the cruise control cable separating from the housing clip (cruise control actuator cable adjuster) that jammed the throttle in the open position. disconnected the cruise control cable from the throttle and continued driving with no further problem except that the cruise control no longer functions. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated when the consumer hit some black ice. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body had failed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 118,463. updated 02/11/2014 *bf the consumer was able to put the vehicle in neutral.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the cruise control caused the vehicle to accelerate and decelerate independently. the vehicle was not inspected and was not diagnosed. the contact notified the manufacturer of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86000.
While stopping at a red light my car was wanting to accelerate and not stop the engine was revving up rpm about 4000 had to put the gear in neutral then hit the gas pedal a couple of times for it to stop, a short time later it did it again. *tr
Cruise control indicated engaged but car would not maintain speed. car later accelerated on it's own, up to 85 mph. had to apply brakes consistently to keep from accelerating above 85 mph and maintain appropriate speed. happened 8 times in 3 days. mechanic found cruise cable detached and tangled around throttle. mechanic left cruise cable detached and tied it away from throttle. *tr
Car accelerates on its own. i have to put the card in neutral and kick the accelerator to get it to decelerate. i googled it and it sounds like the frayed accelerator problem that has been reported on the internet. *tr
Vehicle started to accelerate and kept going faster. brakes would not stop the vehicle and ended up in a cotton field. this is the third time the acceleration stuck. tapping the gas peddle worked the first two but not the last time. it knocked a hole in the transmission pan and did something to the brake line. *tr
While driving with my some in the car on an interstate, i tried to set my cruise control. the cruise would register that it was set but it would not hold the speed that was set. after a little while my car accelerated on its own. after trying to apply the brakes, which just sounded like it was grinding the brakes because it didn't want to idle down. put the car in neutral, the rpms revved over 4000 and the same when i switched to drive. i shut the car off and upon turning the car back on the rpms went over 4000 rpm again. i talked to ford and they said since there was no recall that there was lot bing they could do for me. i think that something needs to be done. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. the engine rpms also increased while the vehicle was secured in park. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
Driving at 45mph notice that the car was speeding up by its self tried to brake the car had bad vibration when finally stop, rpms were at 4000. *tr
Y vehicle experienced unexpected high rpm and uncontrollable high speeds. it was first discovered when accelerating up to 40 mph, and suddenly the speed increased with the rpm going up to 4,000. the gas pedal was untouched and the speed continued to increased. the driver immediately applied the brakes to stop but the rpm remained at 4,000 rpm, while at a stop, the driver changed the drive shaft to neutral, and the vehicle continued to go at 4,000 rpm. this would go on for about 3-4 miles, and suddenly go back to normal mode. then the symptoms would return again unexpectedly. this behavior has been ongoing since december 5th, and it is worse when the vehicle is on the freeway. the speed control would also become erratic once it hits 60 mph. the driver would change shift to neutral or to d mode just to disrupt the erratic speed behaviors. the symptoms would go away "on its own". in addition, i found that the cruise control is not operational at this time . the cruise control can be turned on but the cruise control is not engaged or is not holding the speed. i have done a thorough check on the engine looking for any damages, any leaks in the intake air pipes, or faulty sensors and found nothing, but from resources, i learned that it may be a faulty cruise control operation. it is now a safety concern, for me as the driver but for my children and my wife. *tr
My husband was traveling to newnam,ga on 11-10-13 late at night when the car accelerated while just going up hwy 85 s., the second time was at a red light making a left turn coming into our area and third time when he came near our house to a stop sign. my husband tried to kick the accelerator to bring it down, it helped some then tapered off. is this something that is under a ford recall? thank you *tr
I was driving at 45mph and got up to the speed limit and let off the gas, but the car kept on speeding up. i tapped the brakes and it quit accelerating. (cruise control was not on) a few minutes later we were on a highway and got up to 55mph, again let off of the gas and the car kept accelerating. tapping the brake did nothing, so i pushed the brakes to stop the car alongside the road, the whole time, the car was fighting me, it wanted to keep accelerating. i did get it to stop, and then popped it into neutral, which caused the rpms to ramp up to 5500rpms. i shut the car off. waited a few minutes and then started it back up in park, and rpms ramped up again. shut the car off again. popped the hood and looked at the throttle/cruise control cable, pulled on it a bit, and it seemed as if it was stuck. started the car again and worked just fine. but then the cruise control no longer worked. the next morning looked at the cable again and found that the cruise cable was detached, so hooked it back up, which fixed the cruise control, but it has accelerated on its own twice this past week. so problem not fixed. *tr

Engine starts to race up to 4, 000 rpm making it extremely hard to stop. had to swerve to avoid hitting car in front of me. when trying to decelerate the car continues to climb in rpm. seams like the gas pedal is staying depressed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. the contact also mentioned that the accelerator pedal sank to the floor. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 40,000.
Earlier in the week, the accelerator pedal on my 2005 ford taurus got stuck and would not function. hitting the brakes slowed the car. when car was put in neutral, the engine raced. i immediately took it to a repair shop and they could not replicate the problem. it worked fine for a few more days, but happened again yesterday. *tr
On occasions, the acceleration (level) does not stop once i take my foot off the accelerator. i have to put the car in neutral gear and pump the pedal once or twice. so far, i have been able to do so; i have not needed to turn off the car while the engine is revved up. *js
The gas pedal on my 2005 ford taurus got stuck and caused acceleration even as i broke fully. this could have easily caused an accident had i been behind another car. i had to turn the car off for it to fix and it felt like it was going to happen again. this is unacceptable the ford taurus is a horrible car and should be recalled. *tr
I was braking to pull into my driveway, and all of a sudden the car's rpm went from normal up to 4500 rpms. when i would press the brake, the car would not slow down, it kept accelerating. i finally put the car into neutral and was able to stop the vehicle. *jb
My daughter was driving and the engine went to 4,000 rpms without applying the gas pedal and stayed at 4,000 rpms after she applied the brake, stopped, and put in park. turned off the engine and restarted moments later with same result. the next day it started and drove with no problem. i found the cruise control cable was detached from its post and i reattached. now we know why we didn't have cruise control. she was a bit shaken by the experience. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who performed an unknown repair however the failure persisted. the vehicle was not further repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000. updated 2/11/14*cn
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle accelerated without manual force. the failure recurred twice. the contact was able to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the incident. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Vehicle accelerates on own. this usually occurs at speeds of 20-35 mph. rmps also surge significantly. it is difficult to bring the vehicle to a stop when this occurs. the problem is intermittent.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle began to accelerate independently. the contact applied the brakes however, the vehicle reached 40 mph. two weeks later the failure recurred. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 106,000.
