I was backing out of my garage and heard a loud hissing sound and my vehicle stopped moving in reverse and wouldn't move forward, i got out and observed my front left(drivers front) tire going flat. i looked under the vehicle and couldn't see anything, so jacked the taurus up and saw that the front spring had broken and stuck into my tire(which deflated it quickly) and also had broken my stabilizer link off at the strut ,i had to replace my spring, strut, sway bar end link, and front left tire to correct the failure. *tr

I have a 2002 ford taurus se v6. the left front spring broke and began to rub the tire. i was only doing about 30 mph at the time on a small road and could pull over in about 300 feet. this car also had two rear springs break about 6 months ago. the car has 117,000 miles on it. i had a 1999 taurus that had a recall that installed a shield around the spring to prevent a spring break from shredding the tire. this is an unsafe design. if i were going highway speeds when this happened, i probably would have been severely injured, possible rollover. *tr

Both rear springs on my 2002 ford taurus ses broke. the left front spring broke 3 years ago. *tr

On the morning of march 1st, 2010 my wife was backing our 2002 ford taurus out of the garage when the tire blew. upon inspecting the car i noticed that the coil spring was broken and contacted the tire resulting in tire failure. this is the second time that a coil spring has broken and blown a tire. the first time was in 2006. we live in franklin massachusetts. we bought the car new in 2002 from acton ford. ford did not offer to cover the cost of the repairs. franklin ford mentioned that it was a campaign and the car was not covered. my wife and i recently sold the car for parts to a toyota dealer. we are concerned about the safety of people driving these cars that are unaware of the potential dangers. i'm thankful that my family was not driving on the highway when the tire blew. i took pictures of the tire and spring. i have the vin number as well. thanks for your time. *tr

I have a 2002 ford taurus, when my 16 year old son was driving the car, the front coil spring broke and blew out his tire while he was driving, this also happen to my 2000 ford taurus years ago. i assumed this was a recall due to the 2000 ford had the same problems. i checked and my 2002 is not on the recall list for the coil spring because you changed manufactures & not enough people complained about this problem. i'm not impressed with the ford taurus at this point. i have 3 of them 2000, 2002 and 2007 taurus i also have a ford 500. i have always had faith in your tauruses until this has happen 2 times now and it is going to cost me almost $1000.00 due to the fact i now should replace the struts along with the coil springs and buy a new tier. i would like to know why just because you changed manufactured you would not honor a problem you have had on the ford taurus several years in a row. i thank god my son was not driving fast when the coil spring broke and blew the tier out, he is 16 years old we bought this car because we thought it would be a safe car for him. *tr

I have been the owner of two 2002 ford taurus automobiles. i've had to replace all 4 coil springs on my first one because they simply broke in half. only one broke at a time but you have to replace the coil springs on both sides of the car when that happens. so i have had 2 repair jobs replacing 4 coil springs. one of the springs broke while traveling at 40 mph and destroyed the tire on the front drivers side. i was able to control the car, no accident occurred. the first time it happened i just took it to my regular tire store and had it fixed at a cost of $800.00. a year later when another one broke i called ford and they said that there was a recall on those springs but only included 2001 and earlier models. i told them at the time there is a problem with these springs, it's happened to me twice and every tech who knows anything about these cars agrees. the ford taurus's of these model years have coil spring problems. no luck with ford and once again i had to shell out around $800.00 in october 2009 i bought another 2002 ford taurus (dumb me) off a neighbor and sure enough, another broken coil spring. this time i was pulling in my driveway, i could feel it break and again it ruined a 5 month old tire. by the way with every repair job you have to buy 2 new tires as well. the broken spring ruins the tire so you have to buy 2. i called ford again and they told me i'm out of luck. i explained that this is the 3rd time, in 2 different cars and that this has happened. they were less that helpful, polite but of no help. so now i'm looking at another $800 or so. is there anything you can do to help me? *tr

My 2002 ford taurus had both front springs broken, 1 tire destroyed, drive axel destroyed and a stabilizer link destroyed. there is a recall for up to 2001 and wonder why this car with the same problem would not be covered. this is extremely disappointing. *tr

Front spring on 2002 ford taurus broke, puncturing the sidewall of the tire. *tr

Left front spring broken with puncture of tire. *tr

2002 ford taurus defective springs *gr the consumer stated she was pulling out of a parking lot when she heard a noise. she promptly stopped driving, and discovered the front driver's side tire was flat. she put the spare tire on and returned to where she purchased the tires, only to learn the warranty did not cover the situation. the consumer was informed the tire would not be replaced, because the damage was caused by a broken coil spring and not because of any inherent problem with the tire itself. a month and a half later, the driver's side rear tire was damaged in the same manner which was due to a defective coil spring. the consumer discovered a recall regarding the coil springs for the 1999-2001 models.

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that the left front coil spring broke and cut the tire while he was driving up a hill. the entire inside of the tire had shredded and separated. the ford manufacturer was called and stated that there was no warranty or recall for the failure. the contact had to repair the vehicle himself. the failure mileage was 79,437. updated 04/13/10. *lj updated 10/08/10*jb

The car made a loud bang n front end dropped to the ground. drivers side front suspension busted n blew out the tire, just reached home driveway. it is not fixed as i am on limited income. also i do have the broken parts and they are not rusted at all. also the tire was like new and is totally shot. *tr

I was driving my ford taurus 2002 and the front left coil spring broke resulting in the broken coil spring puncturing my tire causing it to go immediately flat. this rendered my car immobile, required towing, and replacement of both front coil springs and mounts that hold the coil springs. (cost: $695) so far, this has only happened once, and i really hope it never happens again. i have a portion of the coil spring that broke off from the rest of the coil spring. the remaining spring was kept by the auto repair shop. the portion of the coil spring that i have shows the slightest amount of rusting on the inside of the coil spring. apparently, it does not take much to damage these coil springs. *tr

2002 ford taurus last month i had to replace both of the rear springs last week i had to replace the rack/pinion today as i just started to drive forward in my driveway, the front right spring broke and pierced the front right tire. i was going so slow in the driveway that the sharp edge of the broken spring started slicing into the tire as if a person were peeling an apple. it scraped into the tire until it pierced through the sidewall. thank heavens this did not happen at 70mph i have read about the prior recall involving these same parts on the 2001 and earlier ford taurus models and on 2003 and earlier ford focus models which use the same parts. how in good faith could you believe that these parts were going to just disappear from the face of the earth. ford continued to use these parts until they were gone and just rolled the dice that they would not be caught by your agency. you must help the thousands of people out there driving various models of fords with these same parts this appears to be a very, very common problem with the ford springs. the events that lead up to the rear springs being defective were a thump when the r/r spring broke and the car dropped a little bit. while the mechanic was replacing it, i had him check the l/r spring at which time he found that one on the verge of cracking. the rack and pinion was leaking and upon further inspection it too was found to be bad. and as i explained above, i was driving out of my driveway at approx 2 mph as i was only going about 20' as i had to stop and pick up my wife who had walked to the mailbox. the rear springs are not available as it was last month. the rack and pinion is going to be returned for the core deposit unless you ask me to keep it. the front springs will be available as i will be changing out the l/f spring also. please help all of us and possibly prevent a tragic accident. *cn

2002 ford taurus sel: driving at 40 mph, passenger's side spring broke and immediately cut entire inside diameter of car tire. car immediately pulled hard to the right and was not drivable. car was damaged as well as lawn that car swerved onto. had to have spring and tire replaced, replaced driver side as well. cost was over $550. 6 months later at inspection rear spring was broken and had another $450 expense. online search shows this is a common complaint and re-call should be extended to 2002 ford taurus. *tr

Front passenger coil spring broke on a 2002 ford taurus, pulling it out of the garage. car is immaculate, barely driven (40k miles), never hit or bumped. broken spring shredded the tire completely in half. certain death would have happened, had this occurred at highway speeds. ford is aware of the problem for this car and model, for years ending 2001. needs to be mandated for 2002 (and beyond, if applicable). *tr

I was backing the car out of the garage when i heard the left front tire blow out, after removing the tire i noticed that the coil spring associated with that tire was broken into 2 pieces, with one of the pieces puncturing the tire. the car is a 2002 ford taurus, and the spring has no corrosion or other damages to it at all. thank goodness i wasn't driving down the road when this occurred, i have not done anything yet to fix the car, i was hoping there was some sort of recall notice on it, after searching the internet i noticed that there is no active recall on the 2002, but several hundred people have had the same problem. *tw

2002 ford taurus, left front coil spring snapped while parked, puncturing a hole in the tire. fortunately while parked and not on the interstate. it's my understanding the ford has a recall for the same problem on the 2000 and 2001 models but not on the 2002 model. of course my concern is this happening on the interstate and the outcome being severe. the left front strut assembly has been replaced with salvage yard parts. this was done before i was aware of this being an issue in prior years. *tr

My daughter's 2002 ford taurus had the front driver's side spring snap off and punctured here new tire, while back out of the driveway. i see there is a recall up to 2001 and wonder why this car, with the same problem, would not be covered. this is very disappointing. *tr

My coil spring on my 2002 ford taurus broke and blew out my front drivers side tire yesterday just as i was backing out of my driveway. through searching for a recall found this has happened to hundreds of other people, this is obviously a factory defect as the older tauruses have been recalled. the scary thing is the new one may do the same thing or there are 3 others that could break. if this happens at a high rate of speed it could be deadly. *tr
