We have classified the 21 complaints from 2002 Ford Taurus about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Ford is aware that they have a fit problem with the cowl and air cabin filter areas of these cars that cause water to leak onto the floor of the passenger side. this causes carpets to get moldy/smelly. the leak sometimes allows water to short/ruin the blower motor. i believe recall number 03v087000 is related to this issue. i have brought this problem to the attention of my local ford dealer and they won't do anything to fix it unless i pay them $400 or so. *tr

I own a 2002 ford taurus ses, it has 69,400 miles. i have owned the car since new, it is garaged 90% of the time. a couple years ago i noticed that the passenger carpet was soak and wet, and i never thought anything of it, i assumed that maybe when driving in the rain, i had crackedthe window open and rain got inside on passenger carpet. in march of 2010, i had a house sitter, while i went on vacation. i moved my car outside, so that she could use my garage. the car sat outside for 3 weeks, the northeast had torrential rains everyday, and area flooding on streets. i had come home from vacation, drove my car and heard a noise clanking under dashboard. i took car to mechanic, he said it was my heater. i had my husband remove and replace with a new one. when my husband took the old heater out, it was completely rusted with water still on it. i thought maybe housesitter had taken my car out and she left a window open.now it is october, i am attending driving instructor school, and my teacher gave me website for recalls. i decided to check to see if any recalls, and find that there are multiple complaints on my year make and model, for heaters shortening out ,i now have no a/c and don't know why along with wet carpets on passenger side l. i printed out recall 03v-087000 and took to ford today, they state that my vin has no campaign message for a recall. recall#03v-087000 is for certain 2002-2003 taurus and sables. what is being done with the rest of vin # that are having the same problem and are not included. i don't want to leave my car in rain and get other components short out, or possible fire, and keep getting the carpet wet, because it will cause mold to grow underneath. all cars in this year make model should be recalled if all are having the same problems. i did not save the old heater, because at the time i thought maybe rain had got in thru the window. please help, i love my car and it is otherwise a good running car. *tr
Vehicle was running fine. next day, no heat. i had a mechanic backflush the line after which i was able to get some(very little) heat for about 1 month just to get me through the winter. following year, i had to have the vehicle backflushed again. same results, but now the ac is staying on with the vent on and i have no heat any where but at the floor boards and that is very little to none. a mechanic advised me that it is the heater core and will need to be replaced. other complaints on the heater core sound to be a result of an incident i had: when i bought this vehicle, i had a problem within 30 days of ownership where water was leaking under the hood from outside. i was charged for replacing a faulty cowlick. the dealership told me that this problem would continue to happen weekly when the car got wet if the cowlick was not replaced. when i questioned how this was possible that i had this problem and they never had to replace this part before; i was told the vehicle never got wet while in their ownership,(open lot with no garages to protect vehicles from rain). i had to pay out of pocket to have the part replaced. *tr
I have a 2002 ford taurus ses with 225,000 miles. one day when i was driving the car down the road the front window got this perfect round crack it the window then almost shattered. i did not replace it yet to see about a recall. *tr
Water leaks into the heater blower box when raining and then to the passenger side floor inside the cabin. the water has shorted out the blower motor resistor and the blower motor. this also caused rust to form on the fan, the motor and resistor pack. *tr
i own a 2002 ford taurus and understand many people have had this same issue. my a/c blower motor stopped working and was filled with water with traces of rust. i replaced the blower control switch, the blower resistor board, and removed and rebuilt the blower motor. the auto parts store i bought the replacement components from (directly across the street from the ford dealer) tells me this is a common occurrence. *tr
2002 ford taurus cowl leak water into pass/side floor & rug burning (shorting)out ac motor ford issued tsb-03-15-6 recall existed 03v087000 bought 2nd hand from ford dealeri had no knowledge of problem until the rains came in winter of 2008- 2009 when blower burned out.i went to ford dealer & he never told me ford knew they had a problem so i had to pay for ac blower motor. i would like to ref.complaint # 10184014 (your number) if ford knows this is causing cust/$ why should they not fix the product? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. after a hard rain, water accumulates on the passenger side floorboard of the vehicle. in addition, the heater blower and air conditioner blower only operate on the high setting. the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer. the contact blogged and discovered the issues with her vehicle. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 89,000.
2002 taurus cabin leak on passenger side that caused my blower motor to short out. 1/29/2009 this complaint is listed under recall 03v087000. it is also listed under complaint number 10228606 . the ford dealer states that this is a technical service problem under will not fix it under recall 03v087000. the vin number for my 2002 taurus is 1fahp5352g283392. i had this vehicle repaired today( january 29, 2009). this problem only showed up after i began parking the vehicle on the outside. i truly believe that ford should reimburse me the entire cost of $315.59 it costed to fix this problem. *tr
Reference ford tsb #04-15-3. i have a 2002 ford taurus ses with only 39,000 miles on the odometer and the blower motor had to be replaced because of water leaking from the bottom of the windshield into the blower motor. i was told by a local ford dealer that there is a recall #03v087000 on this problem, but it expired in 2007, so i had no choice but to purchase a new motor for $133.97, ford part #1f1z-19805-aa. this is evidently an ongoing problem. the internet site i visited had 7 pages of complaints about this same situation. this becomes a safety issue because visibility is impaired due to the fact that now you do not have any window defrosters. i am writing this complaint mainly to see if ford won't extend the above mentioned recall notice. *tr
When we purchased our vehicle in 2003 with 5,000 miles on it we would have issues of the car stalling whenever we turned on the heater to high while driving. we had the car in several times and it never got resolved. now we have found mold under our passenger side carpet and water leaks from under the hood and has got into our heater blower motor. after some research we have found ford had release a t.s.b 04-15-3 on how to fix this known leak issue on 2001-2004 fords. there are other complaints you should have received over this issue from other people. reference recall number 03v087000 and another persons complaint #10184014. *tr
With the cold michigan weather upon us, my heater blower is needed to provide removal of foggy/frosty windows for my children's safety and others. ford has had complaints on the internet and dealers are aware of the problem, i spoke to my local dealer and they said this very common with the ford taurus as water enters the passenger floor board and shorts out the blower motor. they said this would be a $400.00 repair. *tr
Every time it rains heavy, i end up with water on the passenger floor. the defrost blower motor has shorted out three times due to this problem. i looked online and found many many complaints from ford taurus owners. due to some kind of defect, water gets in the heating system and ends up on the passenger floor. it also makes the defrost blower motor and resistor go out. *tr
1. driving in heavy rain, washing the car. 2. the blower motor resistor fails, usually within 2-3 weeks after replacement, causing the fan to work only on the highest speed. because there is no air circulation, windshield fogging becomes a major problem on cold mornings or when driving in rainy conditions. to overcome this the fan has to run on the highest speed, but then the noise increases which makes the ride uncomfortable in the long run. also the fast, constant blowing of air is distracting and unpleasant. 3. the resistor was replaced twice; this time will also replace the blower motor. the old parts are unavailable. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that there was a water leak under the windshield that leaked onto the passenger side floor and created a puddle. he discovered a recall pertaining to the blower case/blow motor, but never received a recall notice. the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 47,000.
Heater quit blowing air. went to replace blower motor had water in it. looks like it has been leaking for long time. i thought water on floor was window being left open. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. whenever the contact attempted to activate the rear defroster, she noticed that no air would blow out. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the contact was informed that there was water build up in the blower of the defroster. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. prior to the failure, the check engine warning indicator would illuminate whenever the defroster was activated. the current mileage was 132,000 and failure mileage was 128,000.
Water appearing on the front passenger floor mat, failure of ac/heater blower. very noisy in the beginning like bearings failing due to water getting into motor. fan motor now not operating at all. water leakage might be related to windshield recall #03v087000. i just discovered this was possibly a recall issue and the motor just quit working so i have not resolved this issue yet. will be contacting the local ford dealership to see what they will do if anything. *tr
2992 ford taurus ses heater blower switch and seal required replacement ford dealer had tsb on subject and new parts numbers to replace parts upgraded parts. cost $600.00 ford knows they have problem and redesigned the parts, but will not stand up and cover cost. i have owned a honda and toyota and both would have helped with similar problem. it is no wonder why they have become the top sellers in usa. i will never purchase another ford product ever. they need to stand up and become a auto manufacturer, not weisel word around the problem. if the cause of the problem was me then i fix if they cause then they should fix. *tr
Water leaks on passenger side floor. read many other blogs lots of other complaints about the same thing. *tr
My vehicle has a water leak on the passenger side floorboard. this happens every time there is a hard rain. i believe there is a recall notice involved, number 03v087000, but supposedly my vehicle is not involved. i would also like to reference nhtsa complaint number 10184014, which apparently deals with the same problem. *tr
My blower switch stopped working on all levels but high and i have water on my passenger side floorboard whenever it rains, was told that i would need to replace the blower switch and motor. i have not replaced anything yet, but have been told that it will stop working soon. i have two small children and need my a/c and heat in my car. i saw the same issue all over the internet as what is happening with my vehicle and wanted to help get this water leak problem with this car taken care of. i wanted to mention complaint # 10184014 and recall # 03v087000. i am now having electrical issues with my dash lights going out that is not fuse related and am concerned that it may be related to this issue. *tr
Every time it rains, my 2002 ford taurus se leaks into the right passenger floor board. various bulletin boards, show that numerous taurus vehicles leak. ford should be responsible for the repair at no cost to the consumer. leaking causes blower to malfunction and/or not operate at all. extremely costly repair. *tr
The fan blower motor on my dad's 2003 ford taurus se with only 33,000 miles and on my 2002 ford taurus ses with 82,000 miles both failed recently. my dad passed away july 7th and i was attempting to seal the car when a prospective buyer mentioned that the fan wasn't working. i checked it out and it work sporadically. i ended up taking it to hiller ford in franklin wi after talking to ford - they wanted it diagnosed. the dealer replaced the blower motor, resistor and rain hat which cost $520. the day of my dad's funeral, the blower motor on my car began to work sporadically. i took my car to hiller ford and authorized the repairs today. the estimate is $429 to replace the blower motor, resistor and a seal. the dealer service manager stated that it appears there is a leak in the post for the windshield and water was getting behind the dash soaking the blower motor unit. when i contacted ford on august 22, 2008, they claim neither car was subject to the 2003 windshield replacement recall (nhtsa campaign id # 03v087000). i find it hard to believe that ford is offering no relief because they claim the cars weren't subject to the recall and the windshield leak isn't related to the blower motor going bad. i'm out almost $1000 in repair costs and i've seen many comments from other owners who have had issues with the blower motor and leaks into the passenger compartment. *tr
The heater/ac blower of my 2002 ford taurus only works on high. i went to the dealership today and received an estimate to repair will cost me $660.00. this estimate includes a "fix" for a known design flaw. evidently water leaks into the vehicle from somewhere around where the windshield wipers are causing damage to the resistor and motor. i need a blower motor, updated (fix) cowl, and resistor. *tr
The floor on the passengers side of the car was extremely wet after a big rain and kept getting wet for a few days after the rain. nothing was done, other ford taurus were recalled for this problem but not mine. *tr
My 2002 ford taurus has a leak that comes from the fire wall to the blower motor resister. it also leaks to the floor of my vehicle. at one point i thought i felt a shock! i did not know where the water was coming from until my blower went out and researched the problem. it seems i'm not the only one with this defect. i did go to the dealership to purchase a resister part. the blower and other parts ran the bill up to $400. please can something be done. *tr
Heater fan blower only worked on highest speed only. i found out from a service technician that the problem was not a control switch, but was a resistor network p/n f6dz 19a706 aa. i replaced the part and problem was fixed (temporarily). same problem returned 5 months later (9/26/08). more inquiring at the dealer revealed the problem source. water leaking through a hole near cabin air filter. technical service bulletin tsb 04-15-3 explains the remedy and repair instructions. replaced resistor for second time and installed weatherstrip 4f1z 54022a54 aa, and panel 4f1z 54018a16 baa and applied silicone sealant in the leak hole. did not replace the blower motor at this time since it seemed to be working. now 1/25/09 the resistor failed for the 3rd time. will be replacing the resistor and blower motor since it appears the blower is shorted and is causing repeated failure of the resistor network. i argued with the dealer wb lincoln mercury that it should be a recall, but it apparently was not classified as such. one ford technician i spoke with at this dealer said he had repaired about a couple hundred of these same defects himself. reference recall number 03v087000. *tr
Blower motor noise, and leaking on the firewall. the leaking started in 2008, i had the trough above the firewall and the blower motor replaced, and now the blower motor makes a loud vibrating sound. my car is a 2002 ford taurus ses and it only had about 50,000 miles on it when it started leaking, and now only has 72,000 miles on it, with the blower motor making these sounds. i am filing a formal complaint. existing recall number 03v087000 and a second complaint number is 10184014. *tr
2002 taurus, blower worked intermittently for the past couple of weeks, and only work on high speed. mileage:56,000. *tr
2002 ford taurus sel: the heater blower motor is shot, we have replaced it twice so it made me do some online research. turns out this is very common with the taurus and we can't afford to fix it on our dime again. we pull the motor out and there is water inside it. we've tried finding a leak or source of the water but no luck. this is getting costly and there is an existing recall #03v087000 for other taurus models, ours should be included also. problem started with 40k miles and now with 55k it still a ongoing problem. *tr
Heater fan not working causing loss of defrost in winter almost resulting in collision. *tr
No visibility on cold/snow days due to heater/defroster failure. having zero visibility is a very serious safety issue. numerous taurus owners have indicated the same problem. the heater resistor fails due to water getting into the blower motor compartment and shorting out the resistor. this is a faulty design by the manufacturer. my 2002 taurus had the heater resistor replaced approximately 3 weeks ago, and has now quit again. since the original replacement, we have experienced several strong rain storms. (although not a safety issue, the water also comes into the passenger side floor board causing mold and odor problems) through research via taurus owner websites, several owners have also experienced heater blower motor failure, in addition to the resistor failure. this is not a normal maintenance type issue, and due to the zero visibility issue, should be considered a safety issue. *tr
I took my 2002 ford taurus to the repair shop because i did not have any heat. i was told it was the heater core and they proceeded to replace it. after i picked my vehicle up, by the time i got home i had no heat again. the technicians at the repair shop said they do not know why it is not heating. ford technicians do not know either. *tr
Water is leaking into the heater housing and on to the passenger floor board through the seam in the housing. we have been quoted a repair price from the ford service center of 500.00 plus to correct the problem. we know there is a tsb#031506 -nhtsa id#10011149 issued 8/9/04. on this problem related to recall #03v087000. also reference complaint # 10184014. why is this not a recall to repair this issue??? if you look at all the complaints here and on line there are hundreds of fords with this issue and if is costly to fix. *tr
Ford issued a recall # 03v087000 stating issues of windshield mounting being under standard requirements. this causes excess noise, water leakage, and rattling. my vehicle was made a few days after the cut off date at the same plant where the problem was in atlanta. my vehicle leaks water from the windshield. i have complained to ford and no one will stand behind their error and fix it. my vehicle is 6 yrs old but only has 30,000 miles. this error is not acceptable and is not normal wear and tear on a vehicle. i need someone to help me take care of this issue. the consumer should not have to pay for the manufacturers defect. *tr
Blower motor failed due to water pooling on electrical components during rain events. rain hat in 2002 ford taurus is defective, as described in ford service bulletin: bulletin #: 031506 sequence #: 10011149 date: 08/09/2004 ford is aware of this problem. part is due to be replaced later this week. *tr
When i purchased the car, the low setting on the blower motor didn't work. i had the resistor replaced, and the motor worked for a while. then i noticed water on the passenger side floorboard. water was entering the passenger side, behind the dashboard, through a leak near the air intake of the blower motor. the water has rusted the blower motor, causing it to blow the motor resistors and short out the motor. it has also caused water damage on the passenger side floor. i had to take the vehicle to the dealer to have the leak sealed and the blower motor replaced. i am currently waiting for the work to be done, so i don't have an idea of what it will cost yet. i will request that they return the old blower motor to me. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that water leaks into the vehicle through the windshield, which shortens the circuit in the floorboard. secondly, she discovered that the heating system was inoperative. she has not had the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failure. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 03v087000 (visibility:windshield). finally, the contact stated that the front coil spring fractured and caused the ball joints and the front passenger tire to fail. the springs were replaced, but the manufacturer did not provide her with any financial assistance. the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 101,000.
Heater/ac either didn't blow or only blew on high. when it doesn't blow the windows fog and the baby is very cold. reference recall 03v087000 and complaint 10184014. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. on november 26, 2007, the heater blower motor failed. on november 27, 2007 the local mechanic stated that there was ice in the air box and it was corroded and covered with mold. a technical service bulletin stated that water was entering into the air box and contained mold. the contact noticed an odor in the passenger compartment when the heater blower was working normally. the local mechanic replaced the rain cap near the blower motor, weather stripping, and air filter due to the rust, mold, and ice. the failure occurred when the vehicle was under warranty; however, the dealer never replaced or repaired anything. the vehicle was garage kept and not driven on a daily basis. the contact is aware of the safety risk involved with the mold in the vehicle. the failure and current mileages were 41,681.
Rear passenger power window went out. mechanic said that he sees this all the time and that i'll probably be back shortly for another one. he said that they put cheap motors in them and they don't last long. *tr
Blower motor went out due to water coming in from under hood on 2002 ford taurus. cost $500.00 to repair and was no fault of mine. *tr
Ford heater automobile: ford taurus, 2002, mileage: 54,700 subject: design defect, heater motor installation background: air intake for the heater and air conditioning system is located between the hood and the front windshield. rain flows into this area and passes into the heater ducting. some of this water flows into the plastic housing for the blower motor causing early failure. potential hazard: early failure of the motor may result in the inability of the vehicle heating system to remove condensation from the interior of the windshield. in addition, the failure of the heating system during cold weather would not melt snow and ice that may accumulate on the windshield. problem: the blower motor is located under the right hand dashboard housed in a molded plastic assembly. this location is one of the lowest points in the heating system therefore water accumulates in the motor housing plastic assembly submerging the rear one-third of the motor in water. this results in early failure of the motor due to water contamination, as there is not a provision to drain water from the plastic housing. comments: this is a known engineering defect as ford sealed the housing with a rubberized compound to prevent water from the heating system flowing onto the floor. corrective action: mandate ford motor company to recall the 2002 ford taurus and other years and models with a similar system to install a drain in the heater motor plastic housing in order to drain the water from the assembly. i have retained the failed blower motor and plastic assembly for your review, if required, in order to observe the results of this defective design. note: i could not delete an error in equipment on the next window as this heater motor was installed as original equipment on the ford. please disregard the equipment window. *jb updated 01/07/08. *lj
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the blower motor stopped working and the driver was unable to use the defroster and heater. the blower motor stopped operating due to a manufacturing defect that allowed water to enter the motor. the contact was informed that this was a common problem. the motor was replaced, and the contact requested reimbursement. the current mileage was 54,000. the failure mileage was 40,000. *ak updated 08/31/07 *tr
Occasionally, after heavy rain, the passenger side floor of my taurus would be soaked. this went on for a few years. during the winter of 2007, the blower motor stopped functioning due to the leak. when the blower motor stopped working i was on the highway and could not defrost my windows. this was especially dangerous because of the snowy and icy conditions. not only was i unable to defrost the inside of my windshield, but i also could not prevent ice from forming on the outside of my windshield. it was an extremely dangerous situation and i had to exit the highway. the window cowl under the windshield and various parts of the blower motor were replaced. this did stop the leak. my taurus is a 2002, but i have seen this problem in the 2000 to 2005 models. it is unacceptable that nhtsa has not investigated this and issued a recall. it is a serious safety concern, and the issue has been known for almost a decade. please investigate. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that he experiences a lot of wind noise, water leakage, squeaks, and rattles coming from the vehicle's windshield. the contact stated that snow may have entered into the floor blower, motor, and resister and that speed was not a factor. the contact has performed the repair to his windshield. the current mileage is 50,457 and failure mileage was 47,053.
