We have classified the 53 complaints from 2001 Ford Taurus about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
I brought my 2001 taurus to the dealership after i was told by the tire company that my front springs were bad. i was informed that this was a recall. when i took my car in to have the recalled springs fixed, i was informed that both of my rear springs were broken as well as my rear struts. why are the rear springs not being recalled when they are obviously defective? when i was unable to authorize the dearlership to complete the repairs due to the immense cost, i had to sign a waiver absolving the dealership of any responsibility if an accident were to occur when i left the dealership. this is obviously a very serious defect that could be very dangerous. why is ford not addressing this issue? *tr
We have a 2001 ford taurus that we bought new. had the front spring shields installed upon receiving recall notice. front springs are ok so far, but i noticed the rear of the car sat a little low in the garage. i had heard of some spring problems with the fords, and my son just had the rear springs on his focus replaced recently at his own expense. (he bought the focus new also) i scheduled service at our ford dealership and they confirmed both rear springs are broken. they did not have them in stock, so rescheduled me for the next day. the struts did not come in, so now i'm rescheduled for next week. now i don't know if we should drive it or not, as i found out that a lot of tires are being punctured, and i had recently put new tires on. ford should take care of this... *tr

I took my car in for recall service 04s17 from ford, front coil spring shields. the technician came to find out that the rear leaf springs have a crack. this sounds to me that the rear springs are also a problem and should be added to the recall in tandem with the front coil spring defect. he told me that there's a possibility that i can blow out my rear tire, so i need both rear springs replaced. estimated cost of labor and parts along with an alignment, $460. i'm going to get the work done soon, because of the potential danger of the rear tire blowing out, but it does sound like a manufacturer's defect just like the front coil recall.
Replaced rear coil springs on the 2001 taurus sedan. also, needed new struts as a result of the failure.*ak
2001 taurus: the spring on the ear driver's side wheel broke and destroyed the tire. ford knew that the springs installed on this type of vehicle were prone to breaking, and even had a recall relating to this exact problem for the front wheels. i didn't understand how it was determined that there was a problem with the springs, but failed to replace all the springs during the recall. when i contacted the dealership i was told that they were surprised that there was not a recall on the rear springs, and that they thought that there should have been a recall.*ak

Hello, i have a 2001 ford taurus purchased used from pundmann ford feb. 2003. a few days ago i noticed a large piece of coil spring under the car. thinking that the spring was from the front and related to the shields that were installed under a previous recall i took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that both rear springs were broken. how can a vehicle that has not suffered harsh winters and is only 6 years old have broken springs? my trunk is never weighted down and i do not tow anything. did the rear springs come from the same vendor that supplied the defective front springs? as far as i know this is unheard of, even the service representative was surprised. the ford service representative also stated that the vehicle "should not have passed the state safety inspection with these broken springs". i was told by ford customer care that they were not required to do anything at this time. 4/23/07 *tr

Apr 2007 i have a 2001 ford taurus [xxx] purchased used from pundmann ford feb. 2003. a few days ago i noticed a large piece of coil spring under the car. thinking that the spring was from the front and related to the shields that were installed under a previous recall i took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that both rear springs were broken. my trunk is never weighted down and i do not tow anything. did the rear springs come from the same vendor that supplied the defective front springs? as far as i know this is unheard of, even the service rep was surprised, and said that it should not have passed the required missouri safety inspection. i should hope that ford motor company will be willing to make an arrangement to have these springs replaced at no charge. sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] dear [xxx], thank you for contacting the ford motor company customer relationship center regarding your 2001 ford taurus. we have reviewed your situation, and there are no warranties, recalls or customer satisfaction programs on your vehicle that would provide assistance for this repair. sincerely, shiela ford motor company follow up: 12jun07 had both defective rear springs replaced at pundmann ford, noticed new "clunk" from rear and took back to pundmann --- i was told that the broken rear springs probably caused excessive stress on the struts and they needed replaced, i don't suppose that ford is going to take responsibility for ...
I pulled out of my parking lot and heard a scraping sounds. i drove around the block back into my parking lot and the sound was there the whole time. i jacked the rear of the car up and noticed the left rear spring was broken and was actually scraping the rear tire. had it tow to a shop and replaced the springs/struts on the rear. repair shop took a picture of the old spring which i have. also replaced the rear tire, it had just scraped off a surface layer of rubber, might have been ok as it didn't get to the belt, but felt safer with a new tire. *tr
2001 ford taurus -- rear coil spring broke, then punctured left rear tire while my daughter was driving the vehicle to the dealer. dealer needed to do approximately $700 in repairs.*ak
Both rear coil springs fractured at the same time, car has 51,000 miles on it. there was a recall on the front springs but not the rear, and now they have broken, seemed very strange, and ford will not stand behind their product, repair cost over $500. *ak

Driving at low speed, and heard a load "pop" from the driver rear side. i was directly in front of a firestone service center and immediately pulled in. under car inspection showed the rear coil had broke and cut through the inner side wall of the tire. technician said another 500 feet would have caused the tire to blow. if i had been at highway speed a serious accident would have occurred. the firestone manager states they see this problem often on taurus/sable models. i knew there was a recall on the front springs (i had the vehicle in for the recall to check/replace). i contacted my local dealer for details on what to do for rear spring re-call and was told they know of no problem with rear coils. i find this statement hard to believe, since the firestone repair center see cars every month with this problem. i had both springs replaced, struts (damaged), tire replaced, and vehicle aligned ($1300 total). i have defective spring in my garage. *tr
I just got through having the front coil springs replaced at the dealer under fords "campaign" to fix the springs only if they are broke on my 2001 taurus..now ,not even three days later the car is back at the dealer to replace the rear springs. why should people have to have an accident or worse possibly die because of a spring failure that everybody and their brother knows is going to happen on these taurus'? *jb
Detected a noise in wheel portion of automobile. drove to local master mechanic who advised it was a broken right rear coil spring creating a sharp broken area that had scored the tire, and cut. *jb
While parked, the rear coil springs on both the drivers side and passenger side have fractured and parts of the coil have fallen to the ground. ford motor has acknowledged a problem with the front coil springs by issuing a recall but yet does not acknowledge this obvious problem with the rear coil springs and issue a recall for this defect. *jb

I had a catastrophic failure of the coil springs on the 2001 ford taurus, and had to replace the front coil springs at my expense. later , i found out about safety recall 04v332000 , and presented the bill to the local ford garage for reimbursement of the price of the parts. the district ford recall representative refused my claim and would not give a reason other than the work was not done at a ford garage. what were the options. the spring destroyed the tire and i could have crashed under other conditions. *ak
