Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC problems on 2000 Ford Taurus

Failure of air bag deployment in 2001 ford taurus. *mr this was a high speed crash where the consumer could not control the vehicle and impacted a concrete bridge rail. *sc when the consumer first took possession of the vehicle, it had a bad shimmy in the front end when the brakes were applied. the dealer found the rotors were warped, a few days after the rotors were replaced the rear end of the vehicle fish tailed, the dealer then discovered the rear drums were not round and had to be replaced. months later the vehicle fish tailed again and the tires had to be replaced. *jb *sc

I have had my brakes worked on my 2000 taurus about every 6 months. i have been told by 2 mechanics that the car model is severely under braked. the problem causes the rotors to warp. i have had one accident with the car were i should have been able to stop if the brakes operated properly. *la

This is the thrid and last ford car i well buy, on-less it was made before 1970! while driving, the car pulls to the left and there's a sqeaking sonud coming from the driver's side. the pulling to the left caused the inside of tire's to wear. when applying the brakes the steering wheel and front end vibrated badly. the brake rotors had to be resurfaced no less than three time do to warping. one time, the ball-joint was replaced under warrant, but i was billed for the realignment by fairlane ford in dearborn mi.. it was said that the tire's was at fault. there seems to be a defect in the braking system or bad metal in the rotors. (90% of my driving is open road) there's no good explanation or justification for these repetitve malfunction starting on a vehicle that has less than 11,000 miles.. p.s i had to leave out some of the little things.u. *ak

Brake rotors are warped, and brakes vibrate when stopping.*ak

Tires: reported vibration , shimmy and pulling to the left. took to dealer 6/24/2000 (1829) miles, balanced tires. on 11/14/2000 (9061)miles, 04/23/2001 (12871) balanced tires. finally, 5/25/2001 (14518) replaced two front tires. vibration and shimmy stopped but kept pulling to the left. on 10/10/2001 (23876) miles, charged me for alignment, car stopped pulling. transmission: at approximately 40800 miles car had a noticeable shudder while going in reverse. took to the dealer and was told it was a cracked casing as noted in tsb 15559 nhtsa number (630095) caused by miss manufacture of a part. was informed dealer or ford motor co. would not assist with repair cost to exceed $1495. brakes: reported brake problem on 5/25/2001 and 10/10/2001 when it was server, shaking and control problems when stopping. dealer cut front rotors which was out of spec.- problem is back. fuel: have smelled gas in my car many times. bought to dealers attention and of course could not find anything. car is to have 18 gal. tank but runs out of gas before that. gas gauge reads empty at 12 gal. and was told it was built to be that way. several complaints filed with you also describe my problems. odi numbers 760669, 896396, 897642 and 862471 are some. *ph *nlm **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**769760

Consumer was slowing down for a traffic light when vehicle started to accelerate instead of slowing down. consumer shifted into neutral , heard engine rev. shut key off in order to stop vehicle. restarted vehicle, and it ran normal for another mile. consumer will contact dealer to determine cause.*ak consumer has noticed that tauruses with adjustable pedals have a softer brake pedal with more play than other vehicles. *slc

Major shortage in brake lights. they work whenever they choose too. this has been reported to dealer several times and they have replaced brake switch several times. it works for about a week then it goes out again. when it is not working i cannot get. *ak

Anti-lock system brake light comes on, and brakes don't operate properly. dealership is aware of problem.*ak vehicle was stuck in park, dealer replaced the brake lamp switch, a few weeks later , the abs light illuminated, vehicle had no brake lights or signal lights, no window power, or radio and cd power, dealer replaced the brake lamp switch again, consumer states 3 days after purchase the alarm switch went off and locked vehicle, ignition switch has been replaced twice. *slc

Braking for a stop at bottom of a slope, suddenly accelerated ... stood up on brake pedal in order to stop at all.

Vehicle was in an head-on accident at 35 mph none of safety features worked, including air bags/seat belts, and brakes. dealer has been contacted.*ak

When applying brakes at 25 mph pedal would go to floor. also, engine would make a loud grinding sound. this problem has occurred once on snowy road, and twice on dry road. vehicle been in dealer shop on several occasions, and unable to correct problem. please feel free to provide any further details on this matter. *ak

Usually if car hot inside, abs warning light on dash stays on. brakes seem to work, but abs status light will stay on. if turn off and back on, may turn off.

Since may of 2000 there was a problem with the starter system jamming. consequences of down systems...such as windshield wipers, abs, traction control, turn signals,a/c and blower. one incident led to complete shut down of car...dead would not start. dealer replaced two starters and then one "starter switch'. that failed as well and dealer tried to repair on 9/25/2000 and confessed they could not and that they had conferred with ford before last two repairs and they said ford knew of this problem and didn't expect a fix till 4th qtr.. they told me there is no safety issue here and i question that because my car whent into complete shut down of all systems and dealer couldn't even start it.

Machining rotors did not fix problem. had to replace rotors. my understanding is that the dealer has had identical complaints from other buyers. after replacing the front rotrs twice and replacing the rear brakes due to high spots the problem was finally fixed. nlm

While in motion consumer tried to stop the vehicle by braking, the engine started to race. the harder consumer pressed the faster the engine raced. a recall notice was sent to consumer. (02v266) also, recall number 01v078 was sent to consumer about a stop lamp switch failure. consumer had a previous encounter with this failure before the recall was sent. *jg *jb *nlm

Consumer was traveling about 25mph on a side street while it was raining at that evening. she was going down a mountain hill and vehicle stalled without prior warning. vehicle started to slide to left into the cross lane. she applied brakes, and there was no response. then, she slammed into a mud enbankment. started vehicle up, and she drove away to the service department. a week before that incident, service department kept vehicle for five days. mechanic gave her serveral pages of investigation of vehicle, and told her that she had to use summer blend gasoline so that her vehicle wouldn't stall. *ak

Consumer states when making a panic stop, the front brakes vibrate 50-60 mph, the vehicle glides when making a stop, this occurs when a consumer hits a bump in the road or applying the brakes on a curve, also when coming to s stop brakes make a grinding noise, the dealer has turned rotors and drums and replaced rear brake shoes, however the problem still remains.*jb

While driving abs braking system malfunctioned, causing wheels to lock up in dry conditions, which had a 36 feet long of skid marks, and resulted in a frontal impact. driver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy, and did not protect the occupants in this crash. please provide further information. *ak

I purchased a 2000 model ford taurus lx from marietta ford on 7/10/2000. the vin # is [xxx]. on 7/27 my wife was involved in a collision while driving this vehicle. upon investigation and repair the airbag sensors failed, causing the airbags to not deploy. the traction control system malfunctioned, causing the brakes and wheels to lock and making the vehicle unable to stop to avoid a collision. ford has failed to take responsibility despite repeated attempts to contact them and forwarding them all the appropriate information. in light of the recent spate of defects reported from ford, it appears they now have an additional issue.*ak information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have a 2000 ford taurus with adjustable pedals. the car was serviced per the instructions associated with recall campaign 01v078000. shortly after this repair, the brake switch was contaminated with grease causing the brake lamp switch to be stuck in the closed position disabling the cruise control and causing the stop lamps to stay on. the car was repaired under warranty. a little over one year later, the same problem occurred and was again fixed under the extended warranty. in essence, the problem which was supposed to be addressed in recall campaign 01v078000 apparently was not adequately addressed as the problem as reoccurred not once but twice since the repairs associated with the original recall.*ak

Abs light on dash was intermittent for months. tone ring finally found loose & cracked, ready to damage abs sensor. *ak

This vehicle has been a nightmare since we bought it from team ford in june. the car has been to the dealer three times for two days per incident and the same problems continue while they gradually discover more problems each time. a car with 5200 miles on it should not need the varied and unique combination of replacements our car has required. the car makes a rotational grinding noise while at freeway speeds, when going over bumps or taking an involved turn the car makes a pop/crack noise from left/front of car. the car has stalled three times during freeway and city driving. the driver's side window creaks and shudders when being put up or down. the car hesitates when started in 80 degree weather and comes close to stalling when initially putting into gear. now and then car makes lunging motion and noise when put in drive or reverse. i could go on and on...i am reporting defects and problems to better business bureau and the nevada attorney general's office. please help!

Brakes failed. *slc
