Problems with 2000 Ford Taurus ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The catalytic converter has been repaired twice and is out again. the abs brakes failed almost causing an accident. *ak

Consumer states while vehicle was parked opened the driver side door saw couple of sparks suddenly the vehicle began to smoke and occurred a fire. nlm *jg

Vehicle stalls intermittently at any speed. vehicle has been taken to dealer 3 times, fuel pump and starter switch were replaced/computer was updated, and wiring harness was repaired, has not remedied the problem.*ak

Consumer states that the vehicle has been in the shop 7 times to get the ignition checked, the vehicle intermittently shuts down while driving at any speed. the dealer has been contacted but is unable to identify and correct the problem. nlm *tt

When starting, vehicle exploded resulting in a small fire due to malfunctioning of exhaust system sensor module. dealer contacted. *ak *tt

Car blew up when cranked. hood had to be replaced and all exhaust system. *ak

At startup the intake manifold expolded resulting in total distruction. shrapnel was imbeded in insulation cover on the hood and found throughout the engine compartment, the windshield washer module on the right side was blown off and found aprox 5' from the car. this vehicle has been in for service for hard starting and fuel system check engine light for the past year. had the hood been open the blast would have sent shrapnel out of the area and into whoever was standing nearby.*ak

While driving 25-30 mph vehicle stalled. vehicle not taken to dealer yet.*ak

Oil was blowing out of the oil pan. consumer can smell gas inside of vehicle. took to dealer, and they were going to replace the seals.*ak

While starting vehicle engine would turn twice. consumer let off key, and engine exploded flowing by smoke coming from under the hood. when hood was opened, consumer noticed that engine manifold was blown to pieces. *ak

When driving on highway at 60-65 mph and without any warning vehicle suddenly stalled, causing loss of all power. consumer pulled off to the side of road. please provide any further details. *ak

Vehicle was going in for a routine check and mechanic spotted an oil leak. dealership replaced the oil pan . but vehicle smells like oil when stopping, and oil smell came from inside of vehicle.*ak

Had trouble with car stalling at 1200 miles. also vehicle would hesitate constantly when hitting the gas, wants to cut off. has stalled several times, at one time vehicle just lurge forward. on 7/21/00, while driving 60-65 mph, in heavy traffic vehicle just stalled.

Vehicle would stall while consumer was traveling on expressway. but vehicle would restart every time. problem was intermittent. *ak

2000 ford taurus dies during normal driving. *mr the consumer was unable to start the vehicle, and when it did start, it died on many occasions, the vehicle would run rough, and the gas gauge was inoperative. the fuel module was replaced along with the fuel pump sender, under dash gauge module, and the #2 sensor. *scc *jb

Low coolant light came on, but car did not overheat, but antifreeze did leak out of heater block. took car to dealer... heater block threaded incorrectly to engine. now told i need a whole new engine! i have only had car for a month!

Consumer stated the rear power window was squeaking, also the passenger window had to be replaced due to rubbing and was scratched.*jb

The vehicle suddenly stalls while driving and without warning, this problem has occured on four different occasions, the dealer has replaced certain parts but the problem reoccurs. nlm

Fuel vent hose came off while fueling vehicle, fuel ran on the ground under the vehicle. *ak

When accelerating onto interstate highway the engine momentarily cut out,the battery light flashed on then off & the check engine light came on & stayed on all the way home.dealer checked it out and found no problem.it has operated perfectly ever since.dealer performed test p1237 & ssm 14041 & could find nothing wrong..

2000 ford taurus with several repairs made. consumer states that the vehicle had the heads on the motor replaced twice, driver side window would not go up or down. coolant reservoir was replaced. transmission had work done to it, and the back lock does not operate correctly. *kb there was a problem with the emission control system. *jb

Consumer was traveling on highway and vehicle stalled without prior warning. had to avoid a truck and went into a ditch. dealership replaced iac valve) twice. on february 17 a mass air flow sensor was replaced. also, processor computer chip replaced, and steering wheel locked up. vehicle had earlier problems tha were still existing. *ak

Engine had a backfire explosion while trying to start vehicle in driveway. this caused vehicle to be inoperable. notified dealer & had vehicle towed. mechanic checked engine & indicated a backfire had occurred in the intake manifold which was split/cracked from the explosion. was in the shop 4 days before parts arrived for repairs. after repairs, placed on diagnostic machine & engine still not working. manufacturer issued a recall #00b38 the first of april. vehicle was manufactered in may 26, 2000. *ak

Initially noticed a fuel odor at the beginning of nov. 2000. i didn't know what it was. in february, i mentioned my sleepiness and headaches when driving the car for long lengths of time to my employer and they thought there might be a co problem. we placed a co tube in car and it was dirty within 72 hours. went to local ford dealership (hiller) and they had 2 other 2000 ford taurus in shop with same problem. dealer wasn't exactly sure what problem was with car. ford replaced the intake manifold gaskets and said that would take care of problem. still was sleepy and nauseous/headachy. ford dealer said that ford will not do any more for me. put new co tube on center vent and that too became dirty. dealership still wouldn't do anything and took tube as evidence. i went out and bought co meter from hardware store and the reading went over 300 and alarm sounded. called dealer on mon 03/26/01 and they would not talk to me and refuse to give me name/number of district manager. i am worried that if nothing is done, that myself or the next owner could cause and accident or worse, be killedfrom falling asleep at the wheel.*ak

Consumer was traveling about 25mph on a side street while it was raining at that evening. she was going down a mountain hill and vehicle stalled without prior warning. vehicle started to slide to left into the cross lane. she applied brakes, and there was no response. then, she slammed into a mud enbankment. started vehicle up, and she drove away to the service department. a week before that incident, service department kept vehicle for five days. mechanic gave her serveral pages of investigation of vehicle, and told her that she had to use summer blend gasoline so that her vehicle wouldn't stall. *ak

Consumer states when making a panic stop, the front brakes vibrate 50-60 mph, the vehicle glides when making a stop, this occurs when a consumer hits a bump in the road or applying the brakes on a curve, also when coming to s stop brakes make a grinding noise, the dealer has turned rotors and drums and replaced rear brake shoes, however the problem still remains.*jb

While driving car starts to buck a little, and then motor shuts down. when this happens, consumer loses brakes/steering, and everything just shuts down.*ak

While traveling at 65 mph and without any indication vehicle stalled. consumer pulled over , and and restarted vehicle. it returned to normal travel. dealer was contacted, could not find problem. please provide further information.*ak

2000 taurus with duratec engine has a 'complete' engine shutdown at 35 mph. when the 'complete' engine shutdown occurred, i lost control of the vehicle. i managed to stop the vehical in the road. this was a 'life threatening' experience as i directed traffic around my 'dead' car. a wrecker was called and the car towed to a ford dealership. three days to fix the car! if the "complete engine shutdown" occurred when travelling 65 mph on the highway, the result could be serious injury or death. ford needs to investigate the "quality" defect in this car. i have great concern when driving this vehical for fear of an engine shutdown on the highway. *ak

While driving about 40 mph vehicle stalled without prior warning. could not restart vehicle, and then vehicle had to be towed. owner had conflict with dealer over a replacement vehicle and payment of repairs. *ak *ml

Vehicle has stalled 7 times at any speed/ any time, taken to dealer 6 times. dealer unable to remedy situation. *ak

Consumer bought vehicle brand new. vehicle stalled anywhere without prior warning. also, engine check light came on the dashboard. consumer took vehicle to the dealership. *ak

While driving down the road vehicle will shut off in the middle of the road. took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced burned out starter. but can't duplicate the problem. *ak

While traveling under 40 mph and applying or tapping brakes, and then reapplying accelerator, engine will begin to rumble and cause vibration in vehicle for a couple seconds, and then shutdown. engine check light will come on. this also occurred while vehicle was idling. consumer sometimes wasable to restart vehicle after this event occurred, ,while other times he was forced to have vehicle towed. dealership has examined vehicle, and worked on fuel pump on two occasions, and fuel delivery module replaced by a manufacturer's recall. please provide any additional information/attachments. *ak

While driving vehicle consumer states it just stalled without warning and lost all power. waited about 15 to 20 minutes vehicle restarted. contacted dealer, and dealer could not find cause. *ak

Fuel pump and fuel related incidences throughout the life of the vehicle. oil gasket problems, various other idiosyncrasies.*jb
