My ac unit blew out and stopped working this summer, now that it is rainy season there is a puddle of water on the floor of my front passenger seat. other people have had this issue call ref number: 03v087000. complaint number: 10184014. i am not sure what they have done but it rains in washington state and my car is going to stink. the ac unit just up and stopped working, and the puddle of water only shows up when it is raining. i am unclear if this puddle gets bigger why driving but i would assume that as long as there is rain falling on the vehicle, that it is getting into the car. *tr

I purchased a vehicle from some [xxx] and i haven't had the car for 30 days and the vehicles is unsafe has had me almost in some accident due to the unsafe of the car. i took the car back to the place where i purchased it and they keep on telling me its my fault the car is giving me problems. i asked them if i can just get my money back and when i advise them of that they talk in their language to me where i don't understand. i have two children that are 10 and 4 ; the car is not safe. the incident that went wrong with the car is it over heated cut off on the highway while i had the children in the car, also after i took it back to them they fixed it ran fine then the following week after that the belt that i had initially told them about the first time came offthe next week which could spark a fuse while im driving and catch on fire so they advise me to have it towed which they had advise me to do and they took on that responsibility but the car engine light is on it has became a hardship with me and my family and it now sounds like the brakes is going wrong now i just want my money back so i can purchase another reliable transportation for me and my family. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 ford taurus. the contact stated that the service engine soon light illuminated on the instrument panel. a mechanic replaced the oxygen sensor; however, the light still illuminated. the contact was informed that there was a misfire on the #6 cylinder. in addition, there was a lot of smoke when the vehicle was started. he took the vehicle to a mechanic and they stated that the possible cause of the failure was antifreeze entering the motor. the mechanic also suggested that there was a potential issue with the head gasket, which would cost between $1,500-$2,500 to repair. also, the vehicle would not decelerate if the contact removed her foot from the accelerator pedal; therefore, he would have to apply the brakes instead. the mechanic informed him that the vehicle would coast due to the cruise control. the contact also experienced issues with the fuel system using more gasoline than he believed was necessary. for errands around town, the vehicle would use a half of a tank. the headlights had a dingy color on the inside. he attempted to get another lens cap for it, but could not change it because it was plastic. the contact would have to purchase another headlight to correct the issue. the manufacturer could not assist because the vehicle was close to ten years old. the contact also noticed that the vehicle would accelerate on its own and slip into another gear. lastly, there was an issue with the instrument panel gauges dimming intermittently. the current mileage was approximately 118,000 and failure mileage was 117,400.

This vehicles has a cooling system problem. the vehicle is known by ford to have a problem and nothing has been done to correct the defect. my vehicle is a 1999 ford taurus which developed heating problems last year. today it was learned that the vehicles cooling system is plugged with a rust type mixture and it is unable to be cleared without replacing the radiator and tearing down the engine to clean it out. apparently ford has known about the problem and has basically admitted they have a cooling system problem covering several years. it will cost several thousand dollars to fix this problem which is not an option at this time. i would like to see ford admit they have a problem and rectify the situation. *tr

Ford coolant corrosion is costing us tooooo much. engine was running hot. started with thermostat, then degas bottle cap (full of rust), then water pump (fins corroded and gone), then radiator flushed-full of rust, now head gasket is gone. flushing system didn't help. heater core has problems too--no heat to defrost windows which is hazardous to driving car. *tr

I have a 1999 ford taurus with a blown head gasket. it seems to me that the ford motor co. knew all along this was a problem. i took my car in to get the thermostat replaced because i did not have any heat. i get the call the next day that i have a blown head gasket. i have an autistic daughter and my mother who has rheumatoid arthritis that i need to use this car to take to doctor appts. and such. i can not afford to fix this problem, an $1100.00 problem, nor can i afford to go out and buy another car. i am upset, angry, hurt, and other emotions i cannot describe. is there anything i can do or a class action lawsuit i can contact? *jb

I owned a 1999 taurus and drove it for approximately seven years without major problems. i performed the normal maintenance on the vehicle and it was in good working order. on septebmer 20, 2006 the vehicle caught on fire. the car was parked in front of my house. the source of the fire appeared to be the front right area of the engine component. the vehicle is completely destroyed and is now in a junk yard. the local fire department was called to the scene and put the fire out. there were no injuries, and minor damage to the grass due to the heat of the fire. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 ford taurus. while driving 25 mph, the service engine light illuminated. the dealer stated that coolant was leaking from the head gasket and there was corrosion in the coolant. the dealer replaced the head gasket. there is service bulletin # 622646 for the cooling system. the current mileage is 90,000 and failure mileage was 84,000.

I have a 1999 ford taurus wagon and the cooling system has been a thorn in my side for the last 2 years. first 1k was leaking coolant and when i brought into the dealership, was told the freeze plugs needed to be replaced as the coolant was acidic. this was my fourth car and i had never in my life heard anything like that. then, when changed there was alot of rust in the coolant system. had to change the thermostat, freeze plugs, and water pump. then things became worse. i started having engine problems which resulted in replacing the head gasket and engine head. when i took the car to the dealership, i was told they have seen this problem many times on that model year car. they suggested i replace the engine, at an estimated cost of $7,000 or buy a new car. then i had no heat in the car as a result also. needless to say, i have gotten the work done on the car and spent about $4,000. i was told by one dealership there was a problem with the engine core which was a manufacturer defect but ford would never own up to it. *tr

I was on vacation when my car lost acceleration i pulled up to the stop sign where my car was smoking, drove to the nearest mechanic to find out i had a blown gasket. my temp light never went on and its functioning. the mechanic there told me this was a known ford problem. i called my own mechanic when i got back home and he told me the same thing. i just got done paying for my car when this happened. i called ford and they told me there was nothing i could do. after reading so many complaint's why isn't ford doing anything with this problem. i had to go and buy and new car which i cant afford. needless to say it wasn't a ford i bought. *jb

Re: 1999 ford taurus: vin # [xxx] my wife and i purchased a 1999 ford taurus from north point ford in north little rock, arkansas, on feb. 16, 2001. since november 2002, we have had the car at two ford dealerships and three independent repair shops trying to get the heater fixed. so far it has cost us $1,324.21. during the most recent repair, north point ford took apart the entire coolant system, flushed each component and found rust in the engine block, which they said was the source of the problem. at present, the heater is working, but we feel we are due reimbursement for the repairs. the car was still under the manufacturer's warranty when we bought it with 29,891 miles. (the contract states 28,890 as the dealer denied our request to list the correct mileage.) we purchased an extended "bumper to bumper" warranty at a cost of $1,733 at north point ford. the big selling point was the warranty would cover all major repairs such as the air conditioner/heater system. the warranty is handled through warrantech automotive, p.o. box 1179, bedford, tx 76095. the contract # is 14747754; the contract plan code is cv60100ukd; the selling dealer code is 718688 and the local agent code is 183. however, the warranty company has paid very little toward the repairs, claiming they are "maintenance." i have located service bulletins on the internet. among them is #01-15-6 "heater core - repeated failure" and #01-11-6 "cooling system - corrosion/contamination/overheating." we were also told that on the 1999 tauruses, ford sent the vehicles from the factory with a highly corrosive coolant. this would explain the service bulletins on the heater core failure and coolant system corrosion. [xxx] from the ford executive offices called aug. 5 to say ford is unwilling to help and i must take up the fight with the warranty company.*ak information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the engine will seize and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle causing the consumer to pull over. dealer notified ts

I was driving home from work on a busy highway (rt. 80) when th ford taurus that i was driving began to shut off. i was driving 50 miles per hour when the car began to slow down to a complete stop. i managed to get the car pulled over to the shoulder on the busy highway. it was rush hour and the highway was extremely busy. when i came to a complete stop i opened the hood on the busy highway. there was smoke coming up from the antifreeze overflow tank. i checked the oil and it was ok. i had the car towed to a garage. the garage informed me there was a crack in the head gasket or in the engine block. this garage did not want to touch the car because they said oil was mixing with the antifreeze. i then had the car towed to a ford dealer in lehighton,pa they informed me that there is internal damage to my motor and the repairs could cost up to $4000. i have had this vehicle for 1 year and i still owe $11,000 on the vehicle. i was never offered an extended warrenty on the car. i do not feel like this is my fault and i do not feel like i should have to pay $4000 repair for this car. thankyou, laura cox. *ak

Consumer states that the 3l v6 engine has a crack in the engine block. dealer notified. feel free to provide any further information. *mr

The front shaft oil pump failed while the consumer was driving. *yh

1999 ford 3l duo cam engine. their is no apparent engine braking from this engine at highway speeds. locking out overdrive will help but causes the engine to rev excessively. cruise control speed will exceed the speed limit by a lot while going down hill, even slightly. *tr

This taurus has no engine braking at all. speed cannot be decreased by releasing the accelerator pedal. excessive speed can only be avoided by "riding" the brakes. this is not uncommon on this year and model. ford dealer says it is normal and "ok". just a consequence of having an overdrive transmission. go figure!!

Consumer states even when pressing on brakes, the vehicle will try to move forward or jerk. contacted dealer. *ak consumer states vehicle leaks oil in the hood area on the right side, also smokes and there is a noise on the right side when consumers foot is on the brake.*yd

Vehicle stalls at any speed. dealer has examined vehicle 4 times, cannot find a problem.*ak *slc
