About 2 weeks ago as i was backing out of my drive and the left front coil spring broke and punctured my tire. now just this morning as i was driving down the road the right front coil spring broke and punctured my tire. i know there is a recall from ford o4s17 front coil springs. however they are saying my car is not covered by the recall since my car was not originally sold in a salt belt state. well it is in a salt belt state now and it is broke. 2 front coil springs and 2 tires. everywhere i call the price range is around 1200 dollars. i am very upset with ford. they sold a defective vehicle and they should be responsible for the repairs. i would rather put the 1200 dollars towards a new vehicle than waste any more money on ford. *tr

Driving our 99 ford taurus when we had a sudden blowout and sagging on the left front. the strut spring had ruptured, also puncturing the tire. new front struts and tires totalled over $1100. luckily, we were traveling at low speed when this occured. one month later i discover that ford had recalled vehicles including our type for that very problem. we were never notified. the ford customer relations person (jasmine) said that because they did not have a 'profile' on us, we were not notified. we have lived at the same address since 1991 and have owned this car for years. any secretary of state office would have had our info, yet no genuine notification attempt was made. i learned that ford extended warranty coverage for that problem but the time and/or mileage on our car now slightly exceeded the limit. i phoned the nhtsa roughly 3 weeks ago. a lady took down my complaint and stated that someone would contact me by phone or email. i have received neither. i emailed ford customer service and my reply was that there was no pending actions or adjustments regarding my vehicle. when this problem first surfaced ford apparently took the east way out and only notified people they had on record as owners. if notified, i would have immediately had them repair the car. no notification, no repair and our well- being was put in danger as a result. we were not hurt but i would like ford to live-up to their responsibility and cover the damage cost as should have been the case anyway. i would like your input on this before i proceed furthur. please advise. thank you. al manente.

Front coil spring broke on my 1999 ford taurus. i was told by the tow driver it was a recall issue with the model. i checked on ford's web site and sure enough it was. ford agreed to fix the coil, but not the tire it punctured. they say i was informed by mail, although i never received any notice. i take my car in for regular service 4-5 x per year and was never, not even once, told they could do the recall at no charge while my car was there. i have not received their recall notice, possibly because i have moved 2x since buying the car. they were notified of my address change each time i moved. *jb
I have a 1996 ford taurus and a 1999 ford taurus. i have had three incidents (2 with the 1996 model and one with the 1999 model) where the right front tires have blown due to low inflation pressure. i have rotated tires, changed brands of tires, replaced valve stems, etc. yet the problem remains; the right front tires always lose pressure at a significantly more rapid rate than any of the other three tires. there must be some issue with the suspension, or something. these tires have not had any abnormal stress or damage due to hitting curbs or anything similar to that. *jb

Lower ball joints loose and need to be replaced.
I have a 1999 ford taurus. my car was recalled in december of 2004 for the coil springs to have a cover placed on them to prevent corrosion and breakage. i had the recall done and shortly afterwards started noticing a loud clunk and bang from the right front while performing a turn. i brought the car back to the ford dealer who performed the recall and had them check the front coil springs. they claimed they are okay. a year has passed and the noise has progressively gotten worse. based on the ford dealer telling me that the coil spring is okay, i decided to purchase four new struts in hopes of rectifying the loud clunk. the noise is still there even after replacing the struts. they cost me $650.00. now i feel i may have wasted that money. i visited a ford taurus forum on the internet and found out that quite a few people are experiencing the same problem. this is a serious issue especially if the spring fails on a highway. *nm

I own a 1999 ford taurus with 53,000 miles. i received a safety recall notice regarding a front coil spring defect in august of 2004. this notice said that i would be contacted again in december for details on getting shields installed around the coil springs which would prevent potential puncturing of front tires if the coil springs broke. december came and went and in february i received another notice from ford stating that the shields were not available yet and i would be contacted again in march. as fate would have it a coil spring broke in february, puncturing and immediately deflating a brand new tire. thank god it happened in my driveway. i don't even want to think about what could have happened if it broke while driving down the highway with my whole family in the car. as i went through the repair process, my local ford dealer tried to do whatever they could to make me happy. however, i ended up having to call ford motor company in detroit and found them to be totally arrogant. they appear to be looking at this from a dollars and cents point of view, rather than the huge safety hazard it is. worst of all, they are really dragging their heels on getting this problem fixed in an expedient manner. although i have owned ford products for the past 18 years, i can't see this continuing given their lack of urgency relative to product defects jeopardizing the safety of their customers. *jb
