Problems with 1999 Ford Ranger VISIBILITY

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 ford ranger. while driving 25 mph, the contact stated that the windshield wipers activated without assistance. the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the failure mileage was 74,700 and the current mileage was 76,005.

99 ford ranger, windshield wipers turn on by themselves while driving. now wont turn on at all. seems to be a driving hazard if your driving in the rain and they quit!! *tr

Heater stopped putting out warm air. it felt like the a/c was on. kept smelling antifreeze. upon checking the next day, i found the metal tubes on the cast aluminum head was where it was coming from. *tr

(1) the windshield wipers will turn on by themselves while i am driving the vehicle when i have not activated them. i may be traveling at 20 to 65 mph, sitting at a stop light, or turning at an intersection or corner, and the wipers just come on by themselves. (2) this event has occurred 2 - 3 times per week since 2007 and the consequence is that both wipers scrape across a dry windshield leaving tracks on the windshield. as i only have approximately 100,000 miles on the vehicle, these incidents began when i only had approximately 75,000 to 80,000 miles on it. (3) to stop the wipers, i pull over to the side of the road, turn off the engine and than restart the vehicle--this does not always work. the other is to put the wipers on fast speed for a couple of seconds and turn the wipers off. and this "solution" does not always work. at times during rain, when i first turn the wipers on, they will not turn on at all. i turn the wiper knob off and than put on high speed than back the speed down to get them working. a professional repair has not been made up to this date as i would like to know if this is a manufacturer's defect. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 ford ranger. while driving 20 mph in the rain, the contact activated the windshield wipers. however, the wipers did not begin to operate until 15 minutes after they were activated. the failure has occurred on numerous occasions. the contact did not locate any burnt fuses. she took the vehicle to the mechanic and they diagnosed the cause of failure as the wiring. the current mileage was 95,000 and failure mileage was 88,000.

Wipers go on for no reason on humid days, has happended many times

Wipers didn't operate correctly - was recalled fix and worked okay for a while now currently come on all by themselves or when you put high beams or blinker on. my door ajar light came on without a door open and the dome lights came on and drained down my battery. ford has not been contacted yet. *la

Letter referencing ford motor co. recall #00b40, consumer concerned why his 1999 ford ranger pickup was not included recall #00b40 for defective multifunction switch replacement. *ph the faulty switch caused the wiper to come on while driving or using the turn signal. many 1999 rangers were recall but the representative indicated that eh consumer's vehicle was not included due to vin. *nm

Cracked engine head, truck had only 65,000 miles and was not driven hard. heater still doesn't warm up as it should, even after manufactures repair. *jb

Windshield wipers intermittemntly turn on when i make turns. another problem: the 'door ajar' light comes on and the dome light won't turn off. had the truck taken in before for the domelight problem.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 ford ranger. while driving at various speeds, the windshield wipers operated on their own intermittently. the wipers have to continuously be shut off manually. the vin was not included in the recall regarding this failure. the current mileage was 78,000 and failure mileage was 59,802. updated 11/26/08 *cn updated 12/01/08. *jb

The windshield wiper operated at their whim and when using turn the signal. (mr. charles lennon and mr. mohamed hashi was assigned the same odi # 10062157) *ph the wipers would shut off with no warning. the consumer requested his money back for prior repair. *sc *jb

Windshield wipers would come on intermittently while switch was off. dealer contacted. *ak this defect is intermittent. there is a recall regarding the same conditions as this vehicle but is not included because this vehicle isn't equipped with power windows. *jg

When turning on directional light, and at making a turn, windshield wipers will turn on by themselves. consumer believed that it was electrical related. please provide more information.*ak

Windshield wipers come on automatically (without driver turning them on), and interior dome light stays on for about 2 hours after the doors have been closed

Dome light comes on when the vehicle doors are closed and stay on. also the windshield wipers come on as they please when i do not activate them. *la

1999 ford ranger: during warranty had windshield wiper switch replaced by ford from notice in mail. about 6 months later, out of warranty, windshield wipers wont stay on. they come on when vehicle is cold but once start driving they stop working...dont know if short in switch or heat related..ford has said that first fix should have fixed it, but now out of warranty and need to pay to fix it.*ak

After putting the vehicle into four wheel drive, the vehicle suddenly stopped. when this happened, the vehicle flipped and ended up on its side. contacted dealer, and dealer not willing to do anything.*ak the dealer could not find the cause that made the four wheel drive to thump and lock up, dealer replaced the right and left hubs and the seals. the vehicle also had its heating system fixed twice. the rear brake parts also fell apart and were replaced. one person was injured in accident mentioned. *yh

This is the second time i've had a sporadic failure of the windshield wipers. the fix provided 12/01 only lasted 3 months past the 1 year repair warrenty. ford rangers are not listed withe the recall of other ford wiper failures. i think they should be.*ak

I feel that my ford ranger is an unsafe vehicle. i have had many problems with it since i bought it brand new. everything stemming from holes in the floor to a faulty transmission and engine among faulty power windows and electrical on more than one occasion.. i just wonder what is next. i am worried about the future of this vehicle especially with its past track record. please send me any information that may be of help to get ford to buy my vehicle back. my email is [email protected] or [email protected].

Door adjar light comes on with no doors open and dome light stays on and heats up causing and could cause fire please recall and fixed it. *ak

While driving on the highway and all of sudden windshield wipers would come on. in a rainstorm windshield wiper wouldn't go on high speed. but when putting the high beam on, the wipers came on. contacted dealer .*ak

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 ford ranger. the contact stated it was difficult to see out of the side view mirror on the passenger side. the dealer stated the law did not allow them to change the mirror. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 99,000.

Both front tires are in terrible shape. both tires seem to have belt separation. the truck still steers straight, but the tires don't hold the road well and they ride extremely rough. the right front tire makes a slapping sound as it rolls.( dot number: tire size: 225/70sr15 )

Windshield wipers come on repeatedly without activation, causing severe distraction. dealer reported "a loose connection". wipers continues to come on. this is on top of a major electical failure the first week off the lot that left us stranded for three hours which was also attributed to "a loose connection!" *ak

The windshield wipers come on by themselves and to cut them off i had to put them on level 4 of the delay switch. it also will not work when i want it to or i have to wiggle the switch to get it to work.

Intermittently when windshield wiper switch is in the off position wipers will come on. also, when wipers are on high they will operate in the intermittent mode. the dealer has been notified. *ak

Windshield wipers come on randomly at any speed or weather condition, staying on up to 10 seconds at varying intervals - causing distraction especially at higher speeds. also, the fastest wiper setting does not work reliably (generally never works) at higher (40+) speeds, making it difficult to clear the windshield in hard rainfall.

The windshield has had two rock chips in the first two months of ownership. this contrasts with my last pickup that had no chips in 12 years of use. i have talked with other ranger owners with same problem. glass company employees tell me this is due to light weight glass used.
