We have classified the 96 complaints from 2011 Ford Mustang about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford mustang. while driving, the vehicle failed to shift into first gear. there were no warning indicators illuminated. when the vehicle was restarted, it drove normally. in addition, when the vehicle was in reverse, the transmission became difficult to shift. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
While driving at 40 mph the car lost power and was only able to move at about 2-3 mph. a 'wrench' warning light came on. driving the car at this speed was unsafe and in hind sight i should have parked it and towed to a dealer.
Transmission does not shift properly. hesitation when upon initial take off and inconsistent shifting. causes hazardous condition when you expect the vehicle to go and the transmission does not engage.
Throttle control transmission light/ illuminates when a powertrain fault is detected. if the light remains on or continues to come on contact your authorized dealer for service as soon as possible.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford mustang. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
Ford recalled 202,000 vehicles and has a tsb for the bulkhead connection leakage in transmission, however my year 2011 was not, however i just paid over 600 for the repair and could've been killed had all the fluid leaked out. i think ford needs to take responsibility for all vehicles, not just cherry pick particular year model. mine is only one year off and it should be part of the recall or perhaps another infamous "customer satisfaction program" such as they did with the throttle control body issues. dangerous! car downshifted while i was doing 70 on i-12
2011 ford mustang. consumer writes in regards to unattended vehicle roll-away. *smd the consumer stated he parked the vehicle in the garage. a few minutes later, he heard a noise and when he opened the garage, he discovered his vehicle was tight against the garage door. when he opened the door to the vehicle, he noticed the vehicle was in drive and not in park, although the key was not in the ignition. upon further evaluation, the consumer discovered the key could be removed from the ignition in any shifter position. the dealer replaced the floor shifter. *jb
2011 ford mustang, while driving home from work at 45-50 mph car shuttered. then no power, no throttle response with engine holding steady 1100 rpm. wrench light on dash lit up, rpm at 1100rpm press throttle- no response at all. steering, brakes all functioning. turned key off and restarted, car ran fine and has not happened again yet. car has less than 46000 miles..
Driving in city @ 35mph, went to accelerate and nothing happened. thought engine stalled but still had ps & pb,s. called local shop, said to turn off & restart. did and throttle returned. two days later, happened again, on county highway @ about 60 mph. pulled over, turned off, restarted, went to local shop. no check engine light or wrench ?? light came on. computer test all negative, but probably a bad electronic throttle body needed @ $ 500. + . took car and got on line, not going to spend $ until sure of exact issue. found nhtsa csp 13n03 , addressing my identical issue for 2011 fusions & escapes with v6 engines, but haven't found for 2011 mustang. this extends warranty to 150,000, and 10 years. i have 109,879 miles now, and issue happened twice today on interstate @ 75 mph. popped to nuetral, killed key, restarted on roll both times.after parking car for short while and restarting, check eng ine lite on. went back to shop & re-tested, this time, throttle body and associated issues dignosed. since this is obviously a safety issue that is well documented on other models, i need to have my issue treated equally. what can you do to help?? humbly, melody & kenneth pitts
I arrived home from work and noticed some coolant leaking out of my car. i popped the hood and saw coolant seeping from the weep hole. when i cranked the car back up, coolant started pouring out underneath the car, bad water pump. i had it towed to dealership today and was told there is a technical bulletin on the hose leading to water pump because it allows air in and causes the water pump to fail. the entire area has to be replaced with a new hose that includes a check valve, so it doesn't continue to happen. this is an obvious manufacturing defect. i was told any car that came in without a check valve has to be replaced with the new hose including a check valve and that i have to incur the entire expense $486 plus tax because hoses are not covered by powertrain warranty. i called ford and was told due to no recall, i would not be reimbursed for this service. even though, he also admitted that there is a technical bulletin issued by ford regarding this problem. i have googled this and the same problem is all over the mustang forums. ford is refusing to stand by their product. luckily, i was at home when this occurred and not out traveling the highway. this would cause the car to overheat and an accident can occur. ford is refusing to cover any cost of the repair. this is a safety issue and concerns numerous consumers, not just me.
My vehicle loses acceleration of any kind intermittently. this always happens when my foot is off the gas pedal. when i pull over and put the car in park it hesitates loudly. if i turn the car off and let it sit it starts fine after a minute or two. the tech said it is the throttle body and needs to be replaced.
Vehicle speedometer seems to be 8-15 mph too fast . definitely off . *tr
I've never had similar issue before this. i was accelerating slowly at a speed of approximately 20-30 mph when the car lurched, the "traction control" light and wrench light came on, and i was unable to accelerate the car at all. i was forced to pull to the side of the road. after about 30 seconds i attempted to restart the car and the engine turned a few extra times but did start. i was able to drive home (within 0.5 mile) at very slow speeds. over the next day i tested the car on back roads: it frequently required the engine to turn extra in order to start, and it seemed that whenever i tried to accelerate too rapidly the problem returned and i was forced to coast/brake to a stop and restart the engine. if i accelerated very slowly i was able to drive the car but at no point could i pass 20-30 mph. i had the car towed to my ford dealership where they diagnosed an electronic throttle body failure based on eec test and code p2112. they noted a stuck etb actuator and etb actuator binding causing system to go into failsafe mode. the etb assembly and full throttle body was replaced and the car drives well now. this is a big safety issue because if i had been on a major freeway or a hill (as are frequent in my area) i could have been involved in a serious injury. the dealership was not aware of or did not offer any extended warranties for defective throttle bodies or sensors and if this exists i am interested to pursue reimbursement of the cost of my repairs and labor. *tr
I have experienced at high rpms switching from 1st gear to 2nd the transmission failed to go in gear on several occasions.and also 3rd to 4th..dealer says it's common at times.after months of dealing with this issues 5th gear is grinding and is at the dealer for repair at my expense.
This began as of last thursday. i have a 2011 ford mustang that i bought just last august. as i was driving on the freeway, a wrench light came on and my car seemed to have stalled on me. i thought maybe it was because it was pouring down raining so i was able to pull over into a parking lot since i was exiting the freeway. i turned off the car after it seemed to vibrate a bit, waited a few moments, turned it back on and it seemed fine. i was able to get home and park it only a few miles from where it happened. i had a doc appointment later that day and was able to get there. it was when i was on my way home that it happened again, on the freeway! it occurred again the next day (friday) as i was leaving from work. i was on the freeway again in busy traffic and it happened twice except the second time, my engine light came on. my dad took it to a mechanic, it was hooked up to the computer and no code came back. coolant was put in it and the engine light went off. the throttle body was cleaned. everything was fine afterwards. today, i'm driving to work and it goes into limp mode twice on the freeway while drivers are swerving around me! this is not safe at all! i have extended warranty on my car so this is going to have to be fixed asap. to anyone else having this problem, please be careful. once it goes into limp mode, your speed will drastically decrease and you will not be able to accelerate. it is scary because not all parts of the freeway have a shoulder to pull over...this needs to be a recall before someone is seriously hurt. i've read up on other owner's issues and saw that there have been quite a few wrecks behind this. *tr
Vehicle stalled on the highway with 'wrench light on" meaning an electrical/engine problem with the throttle system. car went into 'limp home mode'. dealer says the tbs needs replacing and ford is having issues with such systems. *tr
At high rpm's in 2nd gear would not shift into 3rd twice this happened. on normal road conditions noticed 3rd was like neutral so i would have to go from second to fourth then in doing that 4th gear was having issues whether i'm up shifting or downshifting 3rd and 4th no longer work under any condition they feel like neutral so now i only can us 1,2,5,6 i no longer have a 3 and 4 . so while at track car never went passed second and the drive home was missing 2 gears just like that. *tr
The electronic throttle body is defective. the car loses power and nothing happens when i step on the gas, but the engine does not turn off. i have pulled over and the car shakes pretty violently. once i turn it off and back on everything seems fine for a while but eventually does it again. got the code p2111. *tr
Defective electronic throttle body (etb) as per dealership diagnosis. ford customer service is excluding mustangs from the customer satisfaction program 13n03 - which clearly states there is a problem with etbs during this time. looking over the internet, it is clear that some mustangs where built with the same type of etb as the models covered under the program (fusion, escape, mercury mariner and mercury milan). the program extends the warranty on the throttle body to a total of 10 years or 150,000 miles from the warranty start date, which ever occurs first. this car is extremely dangerous to drive as it basically stalls and cannot be restarted without turning the ignition completely off - which in turn turns off power asset to steering and brakes. car may take up to 3 or 4 tries to start normally. this stalling condition can occur up to 5 times in an 8 mile trip. *tr
When driving down the street all of a sudden it won't accelerate although the engine is still running. i had it towed to a ford dealership the first time it happened. they told me nothing was wrong. it has been doing it sporadically since then but got so bad the other day i had to have it towed in again. this time they replaced the throttle body. if they had caught it the first time while it was under warranty i wouldn't have had to pay $556.72 today. luckily the safety problem never happened to me while i was driving on the expressway! *tr updated 012/24/2014 *js
Was accelerating to merge with traffic on freeway when my car would not shift and the clutch pedal depressed to the floor. i was in the middle of merging and lost the ability to shift or control why vehicle. it created a very unsafe situation and ford issued a recall for this very same issues for earlier mustang. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford mustang. the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the wrench warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle decelerated until it came to a complete stop. the vehicle would idle roughly and became very difficult to restart. the problem recurred approximate four times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to duplicate the problem.the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
While driving under normal conditions the engine service light came on. i checked the computer codes and received a p2111 code which indicates a stuck open throttle actuator control system. *tr
Car stalls while driving. every time i drive it stalls when applying the gas mildly. error code p2112 throttle body actuator stuck closed. no carbo no hit, clean throttle body. *tr
Vehicle was purchased 11/29/2013/ with 21851 miles on it . i questioned the functioning of my manual transmission within 2 days of delivery with problems such as notchiness in gear shifter / reverse, 1st, 2nd and grinding into 3rd gears. vehicle sent to ford. i received the vehicle back on 12/02/13, 25978 miles; was told the vehicle was repaired under ford tsb- transmission fluid was replaced. the vehicle did present with some improvement. january 11 2013, returned the vehicle back to ford/ problems again with manual transmission. i experienced gears grinding from park position in attempt to shift gears from reverse to 1st to 2nd, major grind from 3rd to 4th gears. furthermore; due to awkwardness of the displacement of the clutch pedal ( i am 5'3 ) the vehicle will only function when the clutch pedal is displaced completely down to the floor board which makes my safety vulnerable considering i have to electronically ( electric seats) place my seat forward resulting in body positioned too close to proximity of the steering wheel with my knees located approximately 1 to 2 inches from the dash board. upon exiting the vehicle, the seat must be positioned backwards in order to exit .transmission issues was addressed by ford/ extensive transmission work was performed on the vehicle. again the vehicle was in ford's shop from 1/11/14 to 3/10/2014...almost 8 weeks!!. june 28, 2014 approximately 32300 miles on it, my vehicle is once again back to ford due to notchiness of reverse, first, second and third gears/ close seating issues addressed. *tr
Around 17000 miles the vehicle clutch pedal took a few seconds to disengage when shifting from 2nd to 3rd on higher rpms. also, when shifting into 2nd and 3rd at 3-4k rpms, i would feel a notching feel on the shifter from the transmission like if it feeling a few teeth from the transmission's gears or syncros. i am still not sure, dealerships still haven't opened the transmission to find out. car just hit 36000 miles, found out their was a recall or warranty coverage for the pedal issue, if car under 36000 miles. was never informed from precious visits. driver seat also stop working complete, doesn't move anyway. *tr
documentation on this vehicle was previously posted on 12/5/13. as noted; ongoing to transmission/ clutch problems post tsb repairs continue. my vehicle requires the clutch pedal to be engaged completely down to the floorboard during the initial key start process, thereafter; the clutch pedal must be engaged at a minimum to floorboard to the maximum of approximately 1 -2 inches off floorboard. due to my height ( 5'3"), i am not comfortable seated so close to the steering wheel. i am concerned about possible bodily harm or injury due to airbag deployment beyond potentially common injuries due to air bag burns. i have taken the vehicle to my local ford dealership to explore the option of clutch pedal adjustment, to no avail . i was told by the service advisor that the clutch is hydraulic, therefore clutch pedal height cannot be adjusted to accommodate. i personally have owned several manual transmission driven vehicles which include past ownership of a ford mustang gt convertible without these issues or problems. *tr
Vehicle is difficult ( feels notchy ) to shift gears between first and second gears. ambient temperature is not a factor. the problem is constant regardless to outside temperatures. occasionally gears grind when shifting at higher rpms. vehicle does not seem to grab into gear completely one gears are shifted from first through third gears. in addition too: vehicle is difficult to steer/ vehicle seems to drift to the left side of roadway. *tr
The car lost power and a wrench icon showed up on dashboard. i was driving and manage to get to the side of the road. i turned off the car and when i tried to restart it the start switch got stuck and it wouldn't start. i had to try twice before i was able to start the car to make it home. this is the third time it happens. i had brought in the car for service, back at the beginning of this year, more than four times to the dealer where i got it from rountreemoore in lake city, fl. they said there is nothing wrong with it.it is still under warranty. *tr
The ford vehicle showed the following signs at the time of shifting into higher gears, transmission failing to synchronize, slow reaction, harsh shifts, grinding gear noises at low and high rpm. *tr
I was traveling on a major highway at the speed limit (75 mph in this area of texas) and had just changed lanes when the car would not go, i kept pushing the accelerator and the car would not go. fortunately, i was able to coast off the highway and was able to go up an off ramp and pull off the shoulder of the road. the mustang started to make a noise and shuttered, so i turned off the engine being afraid that the engine would be damaged. i was able to start the car again and was able to pull into a parking lot and call for help. the engine started to shutter again and the accelerator would not work. also, luckily a ford dealership was with a mile so i was able to drive to it and was told it was a stuck throttle body and charged a deductable for a defective part that ford should have had a recall on a long time ago. i could have been hit from behind while on the busy highway and injured or killed. also my transmission fills very "jerky" at times when slowing down or after stopping and starting again from a red light or stop sign. i am very glad that my mustang is still under warranty.
Getting on turnpike i went through the gear when i went into it grind real bad. also down shifting it would grind.it was okay in all the other gears. also when first driven it was hard to shift until trans warms up. *js
The car began sputtering and then the engine died after pulling off of the interstate. the wrench light flashed and then the check engine light came on and stayed on. the car was analyzed at the ford dealership and diagnosed with the throttle body assembly actuator as the problem. there currently is no recall. the labor and part were $430.16 i should be reimbursed by ford for this since it is a safety issue. i was fortunate there were no cars behind me. the technician indicated there was a life safety issue. *tr
Was traveling on a freeway when a the care lost power and began slowing down. a little wrench icon appeared. i there was no place to pull over so i turned on flashers and rode on the highway until the care stopped. traffic behind me swerved to avoid my car. i restarted the vehicle and continued on my way. the vehicle failed 3 more times on the way home. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford mustang. the contact stated that the front passenger side and rear window tint were deteriorating. the tint was impacting visibility and was removed on the front passenger side. the rear window tint was not removed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer multiple times, but no remedy was provided. upon making a turn or while traveling at any speed, the gears downshifted too fast. the dealer replaced the transmission, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
When slowing down i notice the car has a delayed down shift almost like a hit from the back, i've never experience this type of ride unless the car had transmission issues, i really hope that's not the problem the car is only 2 yrs old and the warranty is gone on it, i have read in the forums online where others are experiencing this same unexplained down shift. this appears to be some type of factory goof up and it really makes ford look bad (this is my first ford). now i understand why people have such low faith in american made cars you get a warranty that's over in 3 years and you have mechanical problems such as this that should be recalled and serviced immediately. *tr
Car has a long crank time, before the engine starts. causing ware on starter and flywheel making a noisy start. the hood has paint bubbles on the front right side and now at 70k miles needs a repaint. car would stall at the stop light, or would not go when the light turned green or making a u-turn. intermittently check engine light would come on for a cam position sensor. car at 70k miles, wont pass an emission inspection. car value, with known paint problem is decreased. dealer wants $400 to fix hood spot another $200 to look at transmission, $110 to look at the cam sensor issue. my last new ford! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford mustang. the contact was traveling 25 mph when the vehicle failed to shift into second and third gear. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired and the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 27,000.
When shifting from 1st to 2nd gear transmission will not shift, it must be force into 2nd gear. also 5th gear grinds at normal highway speeds. vehicle will not shift into reverse unless engine is off, must shift to reverse, start engine and then vehicle will move in reverse. while driving there is no vibration, nor whinning noises. once vehicle has been shut down and engine is cold, can not shift into 1st gear, after vehicle has set over night, can only place into 1st gear before startup. *tr
2011 shelby gt500 - brought this car in for grinding into 2nd gear (all other gears seem fine..at the moment). was told that all ford would do is replace 2nd gear, which they did and was also told that it was our driving and replacing 2nd gear is all that they would do. we were told by the regional rep and engineer that...quoted - "we have to have the clutch all the way down to the floor before shifting (engaged). the reason it will grind between 1st and 2nd and not into the other gears is because vehicle has bigger jump in rpm from 1st to 2nd. vehicle is shifting correctly as designed.". totally disagree...very upsetting since it is their flagship car and am told this is all they will do. *tr
Mild to violent vibration from manual transmission upon downshifting for deceleration on exit ramp in the range of 5500-2500 rpm. mild to violent shaking felt through car...steering wheel, shifter, pedals...seats... engine speed is matched to transmission speed prior to clutch engagement. i've been driving manual shift cars , mustang gt, small british and american cars for over 35 years. when staying in third gear for example in traffic that speeds up and slows down, vibrations come on above 2500 rpm this is an intermittent problem. more noticeable now in the warm weather. i drive about 35 miles each way to and from work. when the car is thoroughly warmed, i experience it everyday now in the warm weather. placed into ford dealer in decatur, al. he kept the car 4 complete days and after waiting for news i went and got it back. as i was leaving the dealer, the service manager who never looked up from his paperwork, said "we couldn't find anything". when i put the car in for service it had 34000 miles on it. now it has over 36,000. this is getting worse with age and mileage. i wonder if at 50000 miles if the car will be undriveable? *tr
When slowing to turn left into a parking lot waiting for traffic in the other direction to pass so that i could safely turn...once it is safe to turn, when i step on the accelerator pedal, there is a very slow response time for the vehicle to start accelerating. this is extremely dangerous in that the car won't get out of the way quickly. it hesitates for about 2 seconds after i press the accelerator pedal before any acceleration. this only happens in the condition that i don't come to a complete stop before turning. if i slow to approximately 5 mph or less and then press the pedal to accelerate into the turn, that is when there is a delayed response. *tr
Mt-82 transmission has begun to whine . *tr
It's known on the forums at the internet the problem that the v6 mustangs from 2011 and on are having. the v6 mustang's with automatic transmissions are presenting a problem when coming to a stop or when you push the gas rapidly, the shifting of the car has some kind of lateness response causing when you come to a stop to feel like a bang in the car after you have come to a stop or when you step on the gas the car wont react rapidly. this cars are presenting some kind of problem with some internal parts on the transmission (solenoids) and when you take the cars to the dealerships for repair the employees always says that there is nothing wrong with the cars. ford is not taking responsibility of this defects on the v6's automatics because they don't want to make a recall on the cars and they know what the cars have. i'm asking for your company to take action on this matter since there are a lot of us out there with this problem and when you take the car to the dealerships is always the same thing. please check on the forums and see how many of us are presenting this kind of problem. it's time that ford comes out and assume the responsibility on this matter. *tr
I read several details about people having difficulty shifting in high revs or when driving fast but i do neither. i travel at highway speeds and have had difficulty shifting from one gear to another and end up reducing my speed in order to have the transmission engage or even speed up just to "hunt" for the next gear. on three occasions this has caused me concern while driving on surface streets becasue traffic is heavy and some people drive very fast and close. i am getting ready (next week) to take my car to the dealer and have them examine the problem becasue it is causing me concern about my saferty and that of family members. my wife does not want to drive it anymore becasue she was also experiencing shifting difficulties. additionally, there is a vibration occurring while shifting or getting ready to shift that has never occurred in any other manual transmission vehicle i have owned. *tr
I was driving my 2011 ford mustang gt at approximately 6pm on 1 march 2012. i shifted from 2nd to 3rd and when i did, the clutch pedal stayed on the floor. i could smell excessive clutch wear after the incident. i am thankful that i am an experienced driver and was able to stop the vehicle safely. now the clutch stays engaged and you can not shift in to any gear while the car is running. ford has refused to warranty the repairs. mileage at the time 27,000. *tr
After i first purchased the vehicle i noticed a vibration in the shifter which eminated from the transmission. i took it back to the ford dealership aprroximately a month or more later and was informed there was no issue with the transmission. however, to this day there exists a very noticable vibration with increasing episodes of difficulty changing gears between # 5 to 2, either shifting up or down. it is more noticable when down shifting. on more than one occasion i had to shift into another gear above what i was attempting to go for because the gear would not connect into proper placement. this caused a brief back up when going onto the freeway with several cars behind me due to the transmission being stuck in a particular gear setting (#3). this cleared once i changed to a lower gear ratio. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford mustang gt. the contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle failed to shift gears properly. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 6,009 and the current mileage was 6,950.
I was driving my 2011 ford mustang gt at approximately 8pm on 6 jan 2012. i shifted from 2nd to 3rd and when i did, the clutch pedal stayed on the floor. i could smell excessive clutch wear after the incident. i am thankful that i am an experienced driver and was able to stop the vehicle safely. now the clutch stays engaged and you can not shift in to any gear while the car is running. my car is now parked and i will not be able to drive it for almost one month due to waiting parts coming from the states to where i am stationed in south korea. the ford service center here has been very friendly and willing to help resolve the issue. they identified the issue as my clutch. finally, something gave with my mustang and hopefully can get the problem finally resolved and can enjoy my car. *tr
I was sitting at a red light waiting for the light to change to green. when the light turned green i was unable to shift in to 1st or 2nd gear. fortunately i was able to shift in to 3rd gear and get the car moving before coming a road hazard. *tr
