I purchased a new-to-me 2014 ford fusion from germain ford in columbus ohio on 2/2/18. on the 2nd day i had the car there was a light snow storm, a few inches, i am a wonderful driver with a clean record. i went to pull out of my street and i lost control of the car. i thought it was ice until i stopped at a light & my wheels started spinning and i could hardly maintain control. i felt like the steering wheel was taking over and i was fighting it as i kept sliding. this went on the entire two miles to work. i'd never been more terrified. i've driven in snow and ice for 20 years and this is my 6th ford and i had never been so afraid of a car. i thought maybe it was a one time issue, maybe it really was just a strange one time thing? but on sunday 3/25/18 it was raining here in columbus and i was driving about 40-45 mph on a wet road and my car started acting like it did in the snow, but this time i lost total control of the car tc came on and once again i could not control my car and the wheel jerked to the right causing us to spin out of control. the back passenger tire hit a curb, we spun around and the front passenger side hit the curb and we went into a grassy area coming pretty close to a pole and an apartment bldg. i ended up with a flat tire, bent rim, i needed an alignment, the paint is scratched under my car, and i need a new baring on the front drivers side. also - i found out there was around 5 inches of water in my trunk due to a broken seal. i had the car towed to the dealer & i begged them to figure out what's wrong. right now they claim nothing is wrong but they are fixing the leak & the damage. i paid for a new tire. i am beyond terrified to drive the car again. i have never lost control of a car before and now i have in this car - twice in less than a month. something is very very wrong. thank you for any help or suggestions. i just want a safe car.
While driving on interstate steering wheel came lose and car veered off interstate. i regained control but steering wheel is still lose. steering is still lose as repairs will cost is beyond my means at this moment.

Once i reached about 47,000 mile i experienced a problem with my steering where at low speeds it because extremely difficult to move my steering wheel. other ford fusions had a recall for a bolt that would corrode from road salt or water and that is what has occurred but this specific model was not included in the recall so i now need to pay for t which stinks. the bolt was corroded though most likely from road salt since it is winter.
Electric power steering system failed, making the car range from being difficult to steer to not being able to steer at all. the steering wheel was completely locked and would not turn. luckily i was parked in my driveway when this occurred. in timer leading up to this the steering would sometimes take on a heavier than normal characteristic and be notchy. i would also sometimes hear a whining noise when turning. all of this was leading up to a total failure which thankfully occurred in my driveway.
Steering wheel is loose and feels like it will come off.
I was driving on i-95 at about 70 mph, i received steering fault service now message and it went away after i hit ok. the car was still controllable as i didn't have hard time steering left and right. i didn't notice any unusual activity of the car. about an hour after i got that caution message, i stop to gas the car. when i started the engine backup, i received the same message plus three new ones. they are, steering loss stop for safety, hill start assist unavailable, and something about the advanctrac. i ended up towing it all the way back to norfolk from emporio. i was lucky enough to have that happened when my car wasn't on the highway. but the the towing cost is really hurtful. sad part is, i just got my car serviced plus multi-point inspection by ford dealer on dec 20th, 2017. everything was reported as good, apparently not.

Loud creaking sound which sounds like parts breaking from lower front area of the car when the steering wheel is turned most of the way to either the left of the right. ford dealership says it is a sign that the rack & pinion will fail. sudden loss of the power assist could surprise or overpower the driver, leading to a crash. breakage of the steering gear might cause loss of steering functionality, leading to a crash as well.

My steering wheel is loose. dealer could not confirm this on two occasions. read article today about this issue. what do you know and what should i do? ford does not have this in their system.
1) steering wheel is loose and getting looser. this happened on the freeway at 65mph. almost lost control of the car. 2) car still thinks it is plugged in when unplugged. will not allow vehicle to start without a new visual prompt confirming that the car is indeed unplugged.
Takata recall - as my husband was driving the vehicle specifically turning out of the gas station into the traffic, he was unable to control the steering wheel resulting in an accident.
While driving the car, the power steering just quit suddenly leaving the car very hard to steer. when the steering went it, it almost caused me to lose control of the vehicle. i have found online that this car fits every single criteria of recall number 15s14 which covers the bolts that hold the steering motor in place can corrode and fracture causing the power steering to fail. after having the car into the ford dealership in my hometown, i found out that the car was not covered under any recall and it would be over $2,600 to repair. i contacted ford customer care and they basically told me that it is not their resposibility. my major complaint here is this is clearly a very serious safety issue that can cause anyone who is driving one of these cars to crash if the vehicles power steering fails without warning. the car in question has only 51,xxx miles on it. ford will not budge nor will they even split the bill.
My 2014 ford fusion steering wheel became unstable and i drifted into a manhole in the street. and totaled my car. i have reported this to ford as of october 2017
I was driving in the highway and notice something wrong in the vehicle and then in the front window a message appear saying steering fault service now almost crash in the side concrete wall. then when i got to the house and i turn off the car, and turn it back on again the steering was hard and i couldn't move the car no more and then three messages appear talking about the electronic steering failure
When driving, warning lights came on and said that steering assist failure pull over safely. the power steering clearly went out and the wheel was significantly heavier. luckily i had enough space on the road, and the strength to move the wheel. after doing so, i turned the car off then back on to see if it would clear, then it said the service advancetrac, and steering loss stop safely twice as it starts up, and no power steering. vehicle is at in the 83,000 miles round about. waiting for my appointment at ford to run a $150 diagnostic so the can tell me the epas is out which i was reading about in the manual, when i was look for the power steering fluid which i was looking for during the onset of the problem to check, and couldn't find. vehicle was in motion, turning on a bend in the high way. speed was roughly 30 mph. on a separate note, the right suspension/spring thing, makes a clinking sound at slow speeds when turning or tuning the wheel. has been happening for about 6 months before i figured out the source of the noise. i haven't brought it up to ford service dept yet.

Takata recall lost power steering ,stability light and anti skid lights came on was on a side street , moving about 20 mph when it just went out .if this had happened at high speeds on the interstate someone would have been killed luckily my husband was with me and was managed to drive it home, this has a lot of complaints on line and a recall should be issued !!! ivoq n n n n 20 v n n
Driving east near park city, ks on a county road at about 35 to 40 mph when the electric power steering suddenly stopped working. i could still steer the car but with very much effort. i was startled but was not in a life threatening situation and close to home. i have tried a few things to get it to reset, like disconnecting the battery for a period of time but to no avail. this car only has 40 to 50 thousand miles on it and is virtually worthless. the replacement part is $1,500 to $2,000 and it could fail even sooner. the problem is heat related and ford has tried a number approaches to fix the problem during the last few years. the half a million recalls that i have read about tells me that it is simply a bad idea and should be scuttled. my car represents a lame try to kick the problem down the road, silver foil wrapped around the communication cable that runs between the two electric modules.
Was driving on highway in pouring rain with girlfriend and 2 kids went to make a turn and the whole lost the whole power steering system..all of these lights and warnings came on electric power steering is failing. traction, stability, and advancetrac lights are on and no crash warning and seen there was recalls on hundred of thousand of these cars for same problem but was told my car was under this recall why??? car at ford dealer now will provide the receipt of what made it failed !!! and called ford wanted to speak with manager and they don't put you through at all. say they will call back within 2 days a week went by and no call!!! someone could of got killed!!!
While starting my car, the following warning messages appeared: hill assist, service advancetrac, steering assist fault service required. i turned the car off and the warning messages disappeared. i have taken the car in for these problems, but it was not fixed. it has been documented numerous times. it is now out of warranty. now, the following messages have appeared: steering assist fault service required, service advancetrac, & hill assist. the steering is very difficult. these messages appeared while driving at a slow speed on a city street.. i pulled the car over, turned it off, & restarted the car. the warning messages disappeared. the car was restarted & driven a few more times last night. the messages did not come on again. this was august 14,2017.

Power steering loss while driving on the highway.
I was driving down a city street and the steering column felt very loose. there was no accident or bump in the road, just an immediate loosening of the steering wheel. i was still able to drive and turn the vehicle so i took it to d patrick ford in evansville, in. they told me that there was a recall on 3 bolts recall#15r01 which they replaced for free, but then charged me $848 to replace the steering column shaft as they said it was worn. i questioned the recall on the bolts being the cause of the steering column issue and they said no it had to have been from me using the steering wheel to get up out of the car. i do not ever recall using the steering wheel to get out of the car, it had 95,000 miles on it at the time and i was the second owner. the first owner put 18k miles on it and there was never a car accident.
Lost ability to steer the fusion while driving. took great effort to keep on the road and steer safely. took to ford dealership and was told new steering gear was necessary and that would cost $1600. called ford customer service to start a case and then told to call dealership back. they did nothing to assist. calls to ford regional customer service were not returned. recalls about corroded bolts and software reprogramming are not fixing the fundamental flaw. the case that is under litigation in california is exactly what is wrong with my car. the epas failed due to a design flaw and ford will not acknowledge it nor pay for the repair. i do not feel safe driving the vehicle now because i don't know what else ford is withholding.
