We have classified the 2 complaints from 2012 Ford Fusion about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Driver side door latch will not latch and stay shut. there was a recall for door latches in 2013-2014 (recall 15516) but my 2012 vin is not included in any recall. this just occured yesterday and now latch will not keep door shut. car stationary. unable to safely drive my car because door will not stay closed.
Squeaks and creaks heard while driving over bumps and turning can be caused be a couple common sources and should be carefully diagnosed. possible weld issues on the lower control arms can cause the noise concern
Driver side door will not open from the inside. when inside the vehicle the door handle feels loose and moves freely when pulling but the door will not open. you can open the door from the outside.
I was parked. i was sitting in the driver's seat trying to get out of the driver's side door. i pulled on handle and something inside the door broke. i could pull the handle but the door would not open. i could not open the window because the window was frozen shut. it was quite terrifying thinking i would be stuck in the cold. then i realized i could exit through another door but i had to crawl into the passenger seat from the driver's seat. if this had been an emergency situation, i don't think it would be safe for the door to lock shut like that. since then, i have not been able to open the driver's side door from the inside, and if i can't open the window in freezing weather to reach outside (from inside) the car to open it, i have to crawl to passenger's seat to get out.
The drivers side door will not open from inside at all. i have to have someone open it from the outside for me or roll down the window twist around in the seat and open it for myself. i then have to roll the wi dow back up. i have only 72120 miles on this car. it is ridiculous. i can easily get trapped inside in an accident and not be able to get myself out. i called the dealership and was told that it was not under warranty and i would need to fix it at cost. i am the only owner of this car how is that possible? i looked online to see how many others have had this issue and it is a serious problem. how has nobody gotten killed by being trapped in the car? luck! i am scared to drive it since it is winter and know my fellow drivers are not as cautious as i am. i need to save up money to be able to get this fixed yet i am scared to drive to work. what a crazy world we live in. u will never buy ford again and it was brand new.
Drivers side door handle doesn't work. door can not be locked. there is a safety recall on the 2013/2014 fusion for a similar issue.
This is the 3rd complaint for the same problem.the door locking mechanism inside the door broke on the drivers side twice and once on the passanger side.the door would not lock while traveling down the highway.in an accident the door could fly open.the right rear door lock also broke once.i have had ford repair the left front door once and the r front .ford would only pay for the right front door.this car was not in an accident on any of the doors.ford would not pay for the left front and the right rear doors.now the left front door is broken again. which ford said it was not under warranty.the car has only 68000 miles.ford case #16185723-s-5h6r8.
Today after parking and turning off my car, i could hear the automatic locks disengage but my driver's side door could not be opened from the inside. i tried to manually unlock it and it doesn't move, i tried using the key fob to lock or unlock the door and i tried the automatic lock button on the door. i had to restart my car, roll down the window to open it from the outside to finally get out.
A couple days ago, i got to work and the front, driver-side door would not open from the inside. it unlocks just fine, but the only way to open it is to roll down the window and open it from the outside.
It was a chain-collision. the lexus in front of me slammed into an acura, and i slammed into the lexus at about 50mph. severe damage to my car (it has been deemed a total loss by ins.) we were southbound on i-35 near the continental exit in dallas texas on sunday may 13 2018 at about 3pm.
Driver side door will not open from the inside or the outside. i fear that if in a collision, i could not escape. i see there was a recall on the 2013- 2015. i feel that ford should correct this deficiency on my vehicle. this is when vehicle is station and moving. this happened in march and i thought the locks may have been frozen, and now it is happening again
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that all the door handles failed to open the doors from inside the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the windows needed to be opened in order to open the doors from the exterior handles. the contact called future ford of clovis at 559-862-1570 (920 w shaw ave, clovis, ca 93612) and was informed that there was no recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was unknown.
When trying to get out of my car, the door wouldn't open. the door was still latched, but i tried to continue driving to the nearest auto shop. while driving on the door latch came undone and the door came open while driving. at this time the door will not open from the inside (i can open using the exterior handle) and the driver door does not lock. the latching issue is the biggest concern as it could cause injury (i'm very thankful it didn't fly open while driving on the highway two minutes earlier).
I own a ford fusion and several months ago the rear passenger side door handle stopped working. it appears that the hinges broke and the doors could not be opened from the inside and then 2 months ago the driver side door did the same thing. i went to the dealer and was told that it is common problem with the fusions and several customers has been coming in with the exact issue, and ford won't offer a recall. just to have one door handled fixed us costing me $345. this is 1/3 of my salary every two weeks. 2 years ago the engine stalled on the highway while driving now i have to put up with not being able to get out of the car from the inside. i have to roll the window down and open the car from the outside in order to get out of my car. in the event of an emergency i would not be able to exit the vechucle. ford needs to offer a recall on these parts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. after switching to the park position and turning the vehicle off, the front driver side door would not unlock from inside the vehicle. the contact was unable to immediately exit the vehicle. the door was able to be opened from outside the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to buff ford (111 s. il route 31, mc henry, il) where it was diagnosed that the door handle was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 51,000. *tt *tr
The front, passenger-side door does not lock all the time. to get it to lock, you have to hold the door latch closed and manually press the lock lever on the door. locking it with the fob doesn't work, nor does pressing the lock switch (that normally locks all the doors in the car).
Not near home and daughter getting in vehicle in the passenger rear when door would not latch shut. latch was/ is in the open position. car was stationary. this is door number 3 of this vehicle to have issues with doors staying closed or getting them opened from similar situations. what if this were to open as i was driving and this part were to give as i was driving down the road?
I was on the road pack saddle in jonestown tx 78645, when i pulled on to road 1431. a large truck with a crash guard hit me on the driver's side @ 60mph. the accident turned my car into a horse shoe, and senjt me into on coming trafic. all of the air bags were activated and saved both me and my wife but, the residue that came with the activation pepperd me in the face and ruined my glasses. if i had not had my glasses on,i would have lost my vision due to such. we were on a county road.turning left and my vehicle was in motion.
The front driver door will not open from inside thee car. i was parked and ready to get out at work.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that the door handle became jammed when attempting to open the door. the contact had to pull the open lever and pull the door handle to open the door. tamiami ford (1471 airport pulling rd n, naples, fl) diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new door handle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000. the vin was not provided.
The inner driver side door handle broke suddenly when trying to exit the vehicle. the handle made a pop sound and we were unable to get out. once we had the chance to look at what happened, we noticed that pulling open the handle at the same time as the lock engaged the latch. the vehicle was parked at the time of the handle breaking, and the motor was turned off.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. the contact stated that the driver's side door failed to close and lock. the contact held the door and drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic (swann's tire pros and auto service, located at 338 s church st, ripley, wv 25271; (304) 372-5707) where they repaired the driver's side door to close; however, it still failed to lock. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (i-77 ford, located at 3315 charleston rd, ripley, wv 25271; (304) 372-3673) where it was diagnosed that the driver's side door handle and door lock needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-392-3673 and provided case number: cas-13050159. the approximate failure mileage was 45,559.
After parking, unable to open driver's side door. had to roll down window and use outside handle to open door.
I parked in my driveway. put car in park gear pulled emergency brake. removed key from ignition. pulled inside door latch to exit. inside latch did not engage. i had to put key back into ignition turn key to accessories position roll window down, use outside door latch to open door. hold door open roll window back up turn ignition off, exit car and lock. this only happens with left front driver door
Went to open my door to get out of the car & out of nowhere the inside drivers door handle would not work at all. it was fine not 20 mins before. to get out of my car i have to put my window down & reach outside & open it with the outside door handle. it's a real pain in the a$$ especially when it rains. i've read that many fusions are having the same exact issue and ford did do a recall but my year model (2012) hasn't been included yet. i'm hoping they expand it soon because clearly from my experience & that of many others the 2012 is clearly affected.
Takata airbags did not deflate in car accident for safety purpose.
The interior drivers door handle will not open the door and the window has to be rolled down to use the outside door handle. the vehicle was taken into veterans ford in metairie, la where they looked at the issue and then scheduled an appointment to repair it. i brought it in for the appointment and they said they couldn't get to it for three days and that they would have to look at it again and decide what to do. i explained my safety concerns to two different representatives but they still would not take any action.
Both passenger & driver side door handles broke. could not open car doors from the inside. had to open window to open doors from the outside. dealer said this was not covered under warranty and paid to have both assembly's replaced. this is a major safety issue as i would not have been able to get out of my car right away in case of emergency.
The driver's door wouldn't open from the inside; i had to roll the window down and flip the outside latch. i was thinking this could be a safety issue if it happened in an emergency the dealer said it was a common problem and that there was no recall on this issue. they replaced the "left front door inside handle". they said it was an electrical problem.

Drivers side door latch does not engage completely and can be opened with a slight push from inside.
Power steering went out
The interior door handle after normal use can break, leaving occupant stuck in vehicle if unable to climb to another seat or roll window down to open door with outside handle.
The driver's inside door handle stop functioning causing an inability to exit the vehicle without first rolling down the window, reaching outside and opening the door while still in the vehicle. driver would not have been able to quickly exit the vehicle in the event of an emergency. this is not a defect secondary to any event.. the dealership stated this was a know problem with the fusion and had actually ordered 3500 parts to repair vehicle when people brought them in for repair.
Failure of inside door handle to facilitate opening of door will prohibit timely egress of vehicle in the event of an emergency. both the driver's and rear passenger's inside door handles have broken, resulting in the inability to open the doors from the inside. these failures occurred during normal use after parking the vehicle. the doors opened less than an inch out of the locked position at the times of failure. due to the bench seat not prohibiting egress out the other rear door, this complaint was not issued during the rear passenger door failure. the driver's door handle has just broken.
So with in the pass week of 8/8/2016 thru 8/13/2016. i have had a wrench light come on 3 different times and car almost shut off, while driving down the street. so pull over and shut off and crank it back up and go on. however, its becoming a problem and come to find out this maybe throttle control/transmission issue. somebody gonna get hurt, cause you never know when it gonna cut out on you. also both door latches will not either open or lock from the inside. causing existing issue.
I was unable to unlatch the driver side door from inside after coming to a complete stop neither with engine off nor with key on. i consider this a major safety malfunction. the latch no longer works from inside.
July 15,2016 my 2012 ford fusion, with 30,212 miles jerked and stalled. had to coast to the side of the road. to restart and the wrench light came on. took to dealer on july 18 was told it sounded like the emission throttle but have to run test i need to pay 115.00 that would go toward the repair have a extended warranty but she states it's on me.

Driver's side door handle broke almost in the identical spot on a 2009 and 2012 ford fusion i own. the vehicle was stationary at my home when the incident happened. this happened with normal pressure to open the door . this prevents the door from opening and or being locked. the 09 had approximately 50k miles and the 2012 had approx 65k miles and happened on 6/21/2016. i feel this is a defect in materials and design for it to happen on both vehicles i own with the exact part number and i feel this is a major safety concern since it could happen during an accident preventing the driver from exiting the vehicle through the drivers door.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford fusion. after the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v25000 (steering) and while driving at an unknown speed, "power steering assist default" was displayed across the message board. the steering wheel completely seized. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. the consumer stated the door handle and mirrors are rusting on the vehicle. *tr
My power steering assist fault came on while i was driving home last night. it caused me to mess up my front end. i didn't receive any information about a recall, but when i looked up my vin, i found out it had a open case i need to know what to do next... please help

Parked in the driveway, shut off engine, tried to exit the vehicle. inside driver's door release mechanism broke, and failed to unlatch the door. had to roll window down and use the exterior handle to open the door. this significantly increased the time it took to exit the vehicle. this is the second time the inside driver's door release has broken in the same way. this is a safety issue.
Doors fail to lock automatically when driving and when parked fail to automatically unlock. must pull lock tab and handle to unlatch door. handle stops just short of returning to original position after opening door. handle can be pushed in and the door will lock when the electrical locking button is pushed.
